RAOFGood morning pitti.06:47
pittihey RAOF, had a nice weekend?06:48
* pitti waves from Belgium06:48
Keybukyou're already in Belgium?!06:49
pittiyes, visiting some friends of mine in Leuven06:50
RAOFpitti: A pretty productive weekend.  We had a successful sofa hunt, and we've now got the tools to prune the front garden.06:50

ccheneypitti: do you know if totem codec detection is an ubuntu feature or something from upstream?06:59
pitticcheney: it started out as an Ubuntu feature, but most bits are upstream now (the detection, not the actual package installation frontend, I think)07:01
ccheneypitti: ah ok, i filed bug 574050, not sure if it belongs to upstream or our code07:01
ubottuLaunchpad bug 574050 in totem "totem detects HDV video but doesn't seem to know it can play it" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/57405007:01
ccheneyif its something relatively easy to fix it might be worth to stick it in the relevant SRU if we are doing them anyway for gnome07:04
ccheneyit seems to also affect users trying to edit video in pitivi07:06
ccheneyhmm pitivi doesn't work even after ignoring the error07:10
ccheneyso maybe its more involved07:10
ccheneyotherwise the warning being produced is causing pitivi to completely ignore the file07:13
ccheneywith totem if you just cancel out it appears to try to play anyway and then it works07:13
* ccheney bbl07:18

* pitti waves to didrocks, glatzor, mvo, and seb128; had a nice weekend?08:13
glatzormvo, seb128, I released AptDaemon 0.31 and SessionInstaller 0.10. This finally provides us the PackageKit session API08:13
mvoglatzor: you rock \o/08:14
glatzorhello pitti! Indeed! How are you?08:14
mvoglatzor: I prepare packages08:14
lifelessmvo: hey08:14
lifelessmvo: so conflictchecker had another package reading error08:14
lifelessmvo: several in fact; I forwarded you the mail in case you're still not getting the originals08:14
Keybukmvo: huh08:14
Keybukwhy doesn't do-release-upgrade work?08:14
didrockshey pitti, yeah, nice week-end, thanks. Seems you got one nice too ;)08:15
pittiyes, I went from Munich to Leuven, and we went through the city yesterday08:15
glatzormvo, You can find the packaging for maverick in the corresponding branches: lp:~aptdaemon-developers/aptdaemon/ubuntu-maverick/ and lp:~aptdaemon-developers/sessioninstaller/ubuntu-maverick/08:15
glatzormvo, I haven't yet checked compatibility with software-center, since it includes some API changes08:16
mvoKeybuk: d-r-u on a hardy system?08:17
mvoKeybuk: for those you still need to run with "--development" (or --proposed)08:17
mvoKeybuk: because we have not enabled lts -> lts by default yet08:17
mvohey lifeless, I got one of the mails now08:17
Keybukwon't that upgrade me to maverick? </scared>08:18
mvoglatzor: cool08:18
mvoKeybuk: its confusing :/ this is why thinking about it via "--proposed" is maybe less scary. its a proposed upgrade but not for everyone just yet08:21
mvoglatzor: I will check this out, maverick is not open yet, so that is fine08:21

Keybukso you can't just carry on into maverick08:22
Keybukit should remember "current development release whatever that may be"08:22
lifelessKeybuk: yes, but related to this is that we encode lucid in the official branch url on launchpad too08:25
lifelessKeybuk: if we fixed that bzr wouldn't need to change, and it would Just Work.08:25
lifelessKeybuk: bzr should change to remember the directory service url, I think, but thats not actually the root of this particular problem :)08:26
Keybukbzr should remember lp:ubuntu/lucid08:27

baptistemmpitti, for bug 559412, I wasn't clear, the fix I propose is to revert the session change upstream did in 0.22, so this part is like the 0.21 release. But I can't upload the fix myself as I don't have any permission for that. can someone do it?08:37

seb128dpm, how is the translation import queue? did everything uploaded before lucid got imported?09:35
mptglatzor, great, thanks09:36
dpmseb128, no, it didn't, and we should probably release a new langpack soon. However, I believe everything translated in GNOME before the upstream translation deadline got imported. Translations on my system look great, and we haven't had any complaints from translators09:37
seb128dpm, ok thanks09:48
kklimondapitti: seb128:how hard would it be to get a microrelease update for transmission in lucid? There are two bugs that have to be fixed and while it can be done as a backport it would make sense to keep transmission in LTS at the latest bugfix release (and this one is going to be the last in 1.9x). Some private trackers ban earlier releases to limit a number of allowed clients (and make it harder10:07
kklimondato cheat). Fedora has updated to 1.93 so it should get enough testing, we could let it sit in -proposed for some time after verification so more people can test it.10:07
pittikklimonda: sounds fine, if the individual changes meet the SRU and FF/UIF criteria10:08
pitti(like no string changes, etc.)10:08
gicmohi hi10:09

gicmomaybe the ubuntu.bio.lmu.de mirror is fucking things up though10:19
mvogicmo: oh, this is comming up so often, our message is not good. "update-manager --proposed" will put you there from hardy10:20
mvogicmo: we have not enabled it yet by default to show up on hardy systems10:20
gicmogrml, and this is kubuntu (+ the gnome desktop), can I migrate to ubuntu as well10:21
mvogicmo: by default it will upgrade both (kubuntu, ubuntu) on such a system10:22

kenvandineswitchgirl, do you have a facebook "username", like my login is my email but i also have a username of "kenvandine"12:24

kenvandinehumm... gwibber stores that username, but i think not everyone would have that12:26
kenvandinei bet gwibber uses that in a bunch of places12:27
gicmomvo: so upgrade frooze the system and now I have a kernel panic12:44

gicmoahh good old linux days12:44

mvogicmo: can you still boot the previous kernel?12:46
gicmomvo, nope, first error gives udevd and then it cannot find the disk12:47
switchgirlkenvandine, yes i do12:47
artnaygicmo: before you boot the kernel, replace uuid with "root=/dev/something" (try sda1)12:49
gicmoartnay, /dev doesn't contain any disks12:49
gicmoI guess udev is fubar12:49
mvogicmo: hm, usually it keeps a previous kernel with the old initramfs with the working udev and friends12:49
gicmobull I try the oldschool way12:50
artnayI had this and I simply replaced uuid with /dev/sda1, worked.12:50

artnayafter that I set GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true in /etc/default/grub12:50

mvogicmo: first12:54
mvogicmo: the stuff in /var/log/dist-upgrade/*12:54
mvogicmo: and anything that looks like its releated to the freeze in the logs12:54
mvogicmo: I really want to get to the bottom of this first12:54
gicmomvo, If I ever manage to get to a console (maybe with the livecd)12:54
gicmomvo, I have no clue what root pw that should be12:55
mvogicmo: try "init=/bin/sh" at the grub prompt then :)12:56
gicmonow I really fell back in 199712:56
gicmo;-)12:56
gicmofeel12:56
gicmomvo, sooo what exactly do you need?12:58
pittigicmo: for a slightly more comfortable feeling, try /bin/bash instead :)12:58
mvogicmo: the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/*12:58
gicmomvo, well, I mean where does upgrade manager store its stuff?12:58
gicmopitti, bash? do you think I am a luxury hore?12:59
pittihaha12:59
gicmo;-)12:59
gicmoI am also a zsh user12:59
gicmo;-)12:59
mvogicmo: and if it crashed/froze, anything that might be helpful there, if you find something in the kernel logs for example12:59
gicmomvo, Setting up splix (2.0.0-2ubuntu3)13:00
gicmothat is the last thing in term.log13:00
mvogicmo: hm, not very helpful13:02
gicmomvo, I looked at most files, all not very helpfull13:03
gicmomvo, any change I can continue the upgrares?13:03
mvogicmo: anything in ../kern.log that might give  a clue?13:03
mvogicmo: certainly, in the recovery mode there is a entry for this, you can also do it now13:03
mvogicmo: run /usr/share/recovery-mode/recovery-menu13:03
gicmook let me see13:03
mvogicmo: that gives you something like dpkg-fix or so13:03
switchgirlkenvandine, it doesn't it asks for an email address not username the user name thing is different and used for vhat only13:05
switchgirlchat*13:05
switchgirlgwibber in not chat therefore not used13:05

gicmoyeah, ;-/13:24
mvogicmo: the trouble is that its hard to tell if it was the upgrade killing it13:28
mvogicmo: or "just" the load that it suddently put on the machine13:28
mvogicmo: nothing in kern.log or syslog? on crash in /var/crash?13:28

didrocksNafai: I'm fine thanks ;) and you?16:40
Nafainot bad, dealing with allergies/a cold.  Going to the doctor later today though.16:40
didrocksurgh :/16:54
didrockshope you will feel better for UDS :)16:54

duanedesignhello didrocks17:11
didrockshey duanedesign17:11
duanedesignhope you had a good weekend. :)17:12
didrocksduanedesign: productive one, preparing the French ubuntu-party and enjoying ubuntu Paris release party, so, yeah ;)17:12
didrocksduanedesign: and you?17:12
duanedesignthat sounds fun17:13
duanedesigndidrocks: have you done, or thought about getting the sources list with the apt library?17:14
didrocksduanedesign: yeah, I've a lot of "little issues" to take into account in that design. My plan is to make a pdf with schemes of what's the issues and what decision to take on that regards for UDS17:15
didrockslike for instance, you have different laptop your synchronize, making a list of installed application by computer, common?17:16
didrocksyou upgrade and have ppa/3rd party repo, what to do on reinstallation?17:16
duanedesigndidrocks: i was trying to find in the Software Center where it handles that. Would be nice to associatte the sources with the packages17:16
didrocksbtw, there is a new algorithm at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OneConf, if you want to test it :)17:16
didrocksduanedesign: well, I don't think associate each package with each source is the right thing to do, because it will always take the last version (with respect to apt pinning), whatever available repo are17:17
didrocksand if you have an updated list for lucid, and reinstall in maverick, available apps and version can be different17:18
didrocksso, a lot of cornercase to discuss about at UDS :)17:18
duanedesigndidrocks: ahhh, i see what you mean17:18
duanedesignhmmm. didnt even think of that17:18
didrocksyeah, it's a little bit of a headache, but conceptually interesting :)17:19
didrocksduanedesign: I'll try to make a pdf with schemas this week about the different issues and decisions we will face for the UDS session. I can ping you once done for first review if you are interested17:19
duanedesignyeah ill have to ponder that. Got a few people contributing to Stipple. Ill present it to them in case they have some insight17:19
didrockssure :)17:20
duanedesigndidrocks: yes definetly.17:20
duanedesignthanks didrocks!17:20
didrocksduanedesign: you're welcome. I really think we should do that either as a service or a trigger and put at least that part in common (not telling about storing .vimrc and other stuff, that should remain in stipple for more advanced configuration)17:21
didrocksbut first UDS to take the right design decision :)17:21
duanedesigndidrocks: sounds good. We have been working to make Stipple extensible so adding plugins will be easy17:22
didrocksgreat ;)17:22
duanedesigndidrocks: i am looking forward to UDS. Wont be able to make it in person but have made arrangments to be able to participate remotely17:23
didrocksduanedesign: sweet, I'll made sure that we take into account IRC participation17:24
sshawLaney: ping17:51

mptsure17:56
and471mpt: I love the new design blog, very interesting :-)17:57
and471mpt: here we go - http://videobin.org/+16l/1e3.html17:58
and471mpt: I started introducing jquery to software-center17:58
and471mpt: if you need anything explaining, please ask but I think it kinda speaks for itself17:58
mptand471, interesting17:59
mptand471, I have to go out right now but I'll be back in an hour or so17:59
and471mpt: it doesn't really have any usability behind it, just some bling18:00

Nafaihmmm, I need to finish up my summaries18:09
Nafailunch18:18
qenseaquarius: Now you're here: I'm passing a string to a method of an DBus interface (server and client written in Python)  and DBus complains that it's not a string. However, when I pass another string, starting with a '#'-sign, then everything works fine. Have you got any idea how that could be possible?18:57
aquariusheh.18:58
aquariusI don't know18:58
aquariusThat seems alarmingly random18:58
aquariusKeybuk knows Much D-Bus stuff.18:58
qenseaquarius: Lets bug Keybuk then. Keybuk, could you help please?18:59
didrocksNafai: think to deserve some time to triaging UNE bugs, there are a lot coming in the release time :)19:02
Nafaididrocks: Sure, I'll spend some time today triaging19:51
didrocksNafai: also, did you have the time to dive for the "Visible" issue on gnome-bluetooth with the minimal testcase? Seems there is an open bug on it now20:04
NafaiI hadn't got deeper yet20:04
NafaiSounds like I have reason to now ;)20:05
didrocksright ;)20:06
didrocksshould be good on the long term, it's not that urgent for lucid now, but for the long term… ;)20:07

didrockssweet21:07
Nafaibtw, do you have a bug # for the "Visible" bug for Bluetooth?21:08
Nafaion that note, gotta run21:08
didrocksNafai: hum, no, it was reporting against the indicator or gnome-applet IIRC, should be easy to find ;)21:10
didrocksNafai: you maybe want also to answer to bug #57392622:16
ubottuLaunchpad bug 573926 in indicator-applet "indicator-applet prevents to display peripherals in bluetooth applet" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/57392622:16
