Escoceshi guys... i really need help here16:45
Escocesi've got a fujitsu siemens SCALEO P desktop... and i'm trying to install ubuntu in it (mandriva and fedora aswell) but none of them recognise my WLAN... it works fine on my windows vista... but linux don't recognise my wireless... it doesn't even switch on the panel light16:48
Escocesplease does any one know what to do?16:49
bencrisfordEscoces: try running 'ifconfig' in terminal16:50
bencrisforddoes wlan0 appear there?16:50
Escocesi'm using windows now... i don't have any other way to conect to the internet besides wireless16:51
bencrisfordEscoces: ok, well when you get the chance - there a few commands you could run and the output could help us help you :)16:52
bencrisfordhave you installed ubuntu?  or is this in a live CD16:52
Escocesi did installed it, then i unistalled it and installed mandriva... but i can install it back16:53
bencrisfordwell, alot of people have wireless trouble, but it can be overcome normally16:54
bencrisfordit shouldn't stop you installing16:54
bencrisforddo you happen to know what wireless card you have Escoces?16:54
EscocesWLAN. 54 MBit (IEEE 802.11b/g)16:55
Escocesyou mean this?16:56
alkisgEscoces: boot ubuntu/mandriva/whatever. Then, run this command:  lspci -nn16:57
alkisgIt will output a lot of lines. One of them will be your wireless card, e.g.:16:57
alkisg06:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection [8086:4229] (rev 61)16:57
alkisgUse that number there [8086:4229] on google16:58
alkisgE.g.: ubuntu 8086:422916:58
ubottuUbuntu bug 8086 in initrd-tools "filesystem modules loaded unnecessarily?" [Low,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/808616:58
alkisgHeh, ignore that16:58
alkisgThat google search will tell you what driver you need to install etc.16:58
Escocesok... i'll try that! thank you!17:00
