ubottu | Launchpad bug 575576 in scribus "shape countour line editor not working correctly" [Undecided,New] | 05:56 |
Ahmuck | bugs posted in edubuntu are reported in ubuntu as well? | 05:57 |
highvoltage | HedgeMage: pong | 07:51 |
HedgeMage | highvoltage: gah, I'm on my way to bed. I'll catch you tomorrow night if I can -- otherwise Thursday after I get back from the dojo? | 07:52 |
highvoltage | HedgeMage: heh, I just woke up | 07:54 |
highvoltage | HedgeMage: I don't have your schedule open in front of me right now... what time to you get back from the dojo again? :p | 07:55 |
HedgeMage | highvoltage: usually about 5:30pm my time. What are good hours for you? My day tomorrow is kind of crazy, but Thurs-Fri are flexible | 07:56 |
highvoltage | HedgeMage: I can do that | 07:56 |
HedgeMage | are you sure? I easily forget sometimes that you are so far away. I don't want you to lose sleep over this little errand :) | 07:57 |
highvoltage | HedgeMage: oh trust me I've stayed up for way less before :) | 08:02 |
highvoltage | HedgeMage: and this is important to me right now | 08:02 |
HedgeMage | :) | 08:04 |
HedgeMage | Okay, then Thursday is a date, assuming we don't run into one another tomorrow and both have a free 20 minutes | 08:04 |
sbalneav | Morning all | 16:17 |
sbalneav | alkisg: Hey hey! | 16:26 |
sbalneav | How's things in Greece? Tumultuous, I hear. | 16:26 |
ogra | heavily | 16:26 |
ogra | all european news stations have it the whole day already | 16:26 |
sbalneav | ogra: Yeah, I was listening to CBC this morning, sounds like the budget measures aren't going over well. | 16:27 |
ogra | heh, no wonder | 16:27 |
alkisg | Hi sbalneav, ogra, peoplee | 16:27 |
sbalneav | I didn't hear what's the major sticking point, if any? | 16:27 |
alkisg | They already cut 200€ off our salaries, and that's not enough yet... | 16:28 |
ogra | yeah | 16:28 |
ogra | german news said something about "up to 40% cut in salaries" | 16:28 |
sbalneav | Is it just one particular funding cut that's causing the problem, or just a general "too much too fast" problem. | 16:28 |
sbalneav | 40%!?! | 16:28 |
sbalneav | Yikes | 16:28 |
ogra | to pay for the waste the politicians did the last 10 years | 16:28 |
sbalneav | What, politicians waste money?! | 16:29 |
ogra | obviously the money went into their own pockets and they gave wrong reports to the EU ... | 16:29 |
ogra | which got into that situation | 16:29 |
sbalneav | Say it ain't so! | 16:29 |
ogra | and now the people have to pay for it | 16:29 |
sbalneav | Yeah, it's always the little guy that pays. | 16:29 |
ogra | mainly to support paris hiltons new boayfriend ;) | 16:29 |
* alkisg wonders if that's just it... I'm hearing about foreign powers trying to compromise the greek economy etc, but I don't know which parts are true | 16:29
* ogra hears something about 34 billion or something the greek state owes him | 16:30
alkisg | Sure, the politicians waste money, but that didn't just happen the last 10 years; it was always so | 16:30 |
alkisg | Heh | 16:30 |
sbalneav | alkisg: There's probably some of that going on. "Big Business" will always profit in times of economic instability. | 16:30 |
sbalneav | Hey, a billion dollars here, a few trillion there, sooner or later it starts to add up to real money :) | 16:31 |
ogra | pennies, pfft | 16:31 |
sbalneav | http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/e/everett_dirksen.html | 16:34 |
sbalneav | One of my favorite quotes | 16:34 |
mhall119 | asking about edubuntu in Ask Mark in #ubuntu-classroom | 16:40 |
mhall119 | well, not much from that | 16:42 |
sbalneav | What did he say? | 17:00 |
sbalneav | I just noticed, wasn't in the room? | 17:01 |
sbalneav | :( | 17:01 |
mhall119 | sbalneav: just that Canonical is struggling to find out what they can do | 17:01 |
mhall119 | that hey want to be involved, especially on regional and national level | 17:02 |
mhall119 | basically what dinda has already told us | 17:02 |
mhall119 | he did say they might extend access to their build system to child distros, so I'm hoping to take advantage of that for Qimo | 17:06 |
* dinda missed it :( | 17:18
dinda | will have to read the transcript later | 17:19 |
highvoltage | * Edubuntu classroom session in about 40 minutes in #ubuntu-classroom | 17:19 |
* dinda contemplates having to buy food vs attending the next session. . . | 17:19
dinda | food wins for now, sorry, bbl | 17:21 |
mhall119 | dinda: http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2010/05/05/%23ubuntu-classroom.html#t16:39 | 17:23 |
stgraber | highvoltage: ping | 18:49 |
bencrisford | stgraber: hes in the middle of the OW session atm :) | 18:50 |
alkisg | stgraber: I can make an upstart job that runs before ltsp-reboot.conf, but no upstart jobs run at all when ldm.c runs `reboot -fp`... :( | 18:52 |
alkisg | It'd be nice if used a script or something that was easier to override... | 18:52 |
highvoltage | stgraber: pong | 18:56 |
mhall119 | highvoltage: I added the idea of a higher-ed package to the Maverick wiki | 19:00 |
bencrisford | highvoltage: stgraber: nicely done :D, hopefully we inspired some new contributors | 19:01 |
highvoltage | mhall119: thanks for the questions it kept the flow going nicely :) | 19:01 |
mhall119 | that was the idea | 19:01 |
mhall119 | people tend to be shy about asking when nobody else is asking | 19:01 |
highvoltage | bencrisford: this was the first session I did by myself and it went a lot better than I thought it would :) | 19:01 |
mhall119 | but open it up, and they'll follow | 19:02 |
highvoltage | *nod* thanks! | 19:02 |
bencrisford | highvoltage: it sure did :D | 19:02 |
bencrisford | thanks for the mention :) | 19:02 |
stgraber | highvoltage: thanks again for doing it | 19:02 |
bencrisford | there is a meeting tonight right? because I said there was on chat | 19:02 |
highvoltage | stgraber: I'll post the logs to the list, I think some of the answers might be worth-while answering on our website as well | 19:03 |
bencrisford | -classroom-chat* | 19:03 |
highvoltage | bencrisford: indeed! although I'm not 100% sure that we need one tonight, it will probably beshort | 19:03 |
bencrisford | highvoltage: ok :) | 19:04 |
mhall119 | best to have it now, in case potential new people show up | 19:04 |
stgraber | I'm not sure I'll be there for the meeting tonight, though there's really not much to discuss. I registered all of the edubuntu/education sessions for UDS and will work more on that next week in Brussels | 19:04 |
mhall119 | is there a tentative schedule for UDS yet? | 19:04 |
mhall119 | I'm afraid most of it will happen while I'm sleeping | 19:05 |
bencrisford | what timezone is brussels | 19:06 |
bencrisford | is it UTC+0 at the moment? | 19:06 |
highvoltage | UTC+2 | 19:07 |
bencrisford | highvoltage: :D sweet! | 19:07 |
bencrisford | that means i should be able to attend some more sessions | 19:08 |
bencrisford | remotely i mean | 19:08 |
highvoltage | bencrisford: heh, I adjusted myself to canadian time over the last few months... now I've adjusted back to my "real" timezone over the last week in preperation for UDS :) | 19:09 |
bencrisford | highvoltage: lol :) | 19:10 |
bencrisford | =0 oh no... UTC+2 isn't good :P, its even worse :P | 19:14 |
bencrisford | nevermind | 19:14 |
highvoltage | bencrisford: since only one of us will technically physically be there, we'll probably do some planning and discussion outside of sessions too | 19:15 |
oppl | hi ... I just became aware of this channel during the classroom session a few minutes ago - I would maybe be interested in contributing. Will there be a meeting this evening? Just to get some initial ideas of what would be interesting for both sides ... | 19:15 |
highvoltage | bencrisford: I think sessions are most useful when we need input from other teams and clever people | 19:15 |
highvoltage | oppl: yep, in about 45 minutes on #ubuntu-meeting | 19:16 |
oppl | oh - perfect | 19:16 |
oppl | thx | 19:16 |
highvoltage | oppl: welcome :) | 19:17 |
oppl | thx ... good to be here | 19:18 |
bencrisford | highvoltage: ok :), I had some thoughts about the teams blueprint during the week | 19:20 |
bencrisford | its just a suggestion :), the final decision is down to council. but I thought it might be easiest for everyone if me and whoever else wants to could sort the teams into the groups discussed during an IRC session | 19:21 |
bencrisford | then we could get the council members to approve it, but obviously some might have attended said session | 19:22 |
bencrisford | that way all the council members that dont want to/cannot be directly involved still have a say without having to attend the IRC session if they do not want to | 19:23 |
bencrisford | like I say its just a suggestion :) | 19:23 |
highvoltage | bencrisford: yep, sounds good. if you could get some of it in a wiki page it makes it even easier for comments to be added, etc | 19:24 |
bencrisford | highvoltage: ok, i'll do that now, I can link to it in the meeting | 19:24 |
bencrisford | one already exists for the blueprint I can update that | 19:24 |
highvoltage | bencrisford: I'd like to talk about the advocacy team in this meeting too | 19:25 |
highvoltage | my boss (also a Ben) basically sells Edubuntu every day of his life and wants to get involved | 19:25 |
highvoltage | (brb) | 19:27 |
bencrisford | ok, sounds good :) | 19:28 |
highvoltage | Edubuntu Meeting Time! | 20:00 |
* bencrisford grins | 20:01
bencrisford | :D | 20:01 |
alkisg | !info evolution | 20:35 |

isforinsects | highvoltage: what about your boss? Where do you work? | 21:36 |
highvoltage | isforinsects: Revolution Linux | 21:43 |
isforinsects | Aah, I saw a mention that they sponsor some edubuntu work. | 21:52 |
isforinsects | Cool. | 21:52 |
isforinsects | Do you install/support/host wikis for schools using *buntu? | 21:53 |
isforinsects | One of the research projects I work on is wikis in education. | 21:54 |
* bencrisford thinks its time for sleep | 22:12
bencrisford | g'night | 22:12 |
rmainard | Hello everyone, I am running an ltsp cluster with ubuntu 8.04 as my load balancer and control center and edubuntu 9.1 for my root and app servers. I have added XSERVER=vesa, X_ORG_0=1024x768, LDMDIRECTX=True to the lts.conf all of which made it possible to log into my thin clients. the problem is when I log out or have a failed login the screen goes blank and it never recovers. Do you have any ideas as to what this could be? | 22:17 |
rmainard | this is on the thin client not the servers | 22:18 |
rmainard | is anyone in here? | 22:32 |
rmainard | hello | 23:06 |
