* bencrisford wonders where highvoltage has been for today/yesterday16:05
crashsystemsI've got a Sabayon question: I've created a profile that defines, among other things, the theme and the background. The profile was properly applied upon first log on to the new user I created for testing. However, the user is still able to change the background and theme, which I do not want. Does anyone know where I am failing in my attempts to make these settings mandatory?20:11
mhall119crashsystems: it's not usually active in here on weekends20:12
mhall119especially the weekend before UDS20:12
crashsystems:/ ok20:12
mhall119you might try the edubuntu mailing list though20:12
mhall119or see if sabayon has a project on Launchpad20:13
alkisgsbalneav maintains sabayon nowadays, but he's not here on weekends20:14
crashsystemsok20:14
alkisgEither the edubuntu mailing list or a weekday here will do.20:14
crashsystemsI might try the mailing list then20:14
mhall119there will also be sessions on Edubuntu at UDS20:15
mhall119if you'll be awake20:15
stgrabercrashsystems: you might want to check in the lock down part of sabayon if that's something you can do there20:15
crashsystemsprobably won't be20:15
stgrabercrashsystems: if not, then I'm affraid you'll have to learn some gconf to do that20:15
crashsystemsstgraber: the lockdown editor does not handle themes and backgrounds20:15
stgrabercrashsystems: ok, that was what I was affraid of ...20:15
alkisgcrashsystems: you can run gconf-editor, locate the background, right click and set it as mandatory20:16
stgrabercrashsystems: so, you really may want to look at gconf, especially the mandatory keys20:16
alkisgAll graphical, no command line necessary20:16
stgrabercrashsystems: as alkisg said20:16
crashsystemsOk. So does the "Enforce Mandatory" checkbox not work?20:16
crashsystemsor does it do something other than what I'm expecting?20:16
stgraberwell, I'm not sure if sabayon actually enforces everything as mandatory because that'd probably break gnome if it does that. Instead, I'm guessing it's only making the changes from the lockdown editor as being mandatory and not defaults.20:17
stgrabersbalneav would know though (if he's around)20:17
crashsystemsDo you happen to know if there is some way that I could perhaps cause the settings to change back to what is set in the profile (perhaps something that can be put in a crontab)?20:18
stgrabercrashsystems: well, sabayon does some weird stuff there as it's not setting default keys properly, instead it sets user keys (unless that changed which would be great). If it does in fact set default keys, gconftool-2 --recursive-unset / will reset all the keys to their default values20:20
mhall119crashsystems: out of curiosity, why don't you want users to change background and theme?20:21
crashsystems#1 students sometimes pick color choices with horrible contrast, #2 there has been occasions where students have changed backgrounds to things that are not appropriate for a school setting, #3 consistency just looks nice20:22
mhall119well #1 is the student's problem, #2 can't really be prevented without restricting the ability to copy files to the computer, and #3 is kind of against the benefits of Linux20:23
mhall119does each student have their own account?20:24
mhall119or are these shared accounts?20:24
crashsystemsstgraber: that gconftool-2 line worked quite well. Thanks20:24
crashsystemsshared20:24
crashsystemsIf the setup was fancy enough to support users having their own accounts, I'd be fine with them customizing their desktops20:26
stgraberhmm, indeed with shared accounts, you probably want something that resets them on each logon20:34
