Peloanyone home ?03:18
PeloI've just purchaged an  intel core i5 650 with integrated graphics,  it's not currently supported in the 2.6.32 kernel, is this the right place to get help ?03:19
johanbrPelo, you could try a 2.6.34-rc kernel03:37
johanbrhttp://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/03:37
PeloI think i'm using a more recent one   2.6.34.996 03:38
johanbrso that works?03:38
Pelohttp://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-next/current/03:39
Pelowell the computer works,  I don'T think I'M getting anything extra out of the graphics,  videos are still shoppy if I do anyting special , I didn'T try to install and enable compiz yet 03:39
Pelohow do I check what ... driver is being used ?03:40
johanbrlook in /var/log/Xorg.0.log03:40
Peloany specific line I should be looking at ?03:42
johanbrmight be easiest if you put it on a pastebin and post the link03:43
Pelohttp://paste.ubuntu.com/430852/03:44
Pelobtw xorg.conf is empty03:44
Pelothanks for the help johanbr 03:44
johanbrempty xorg.conf is normal03:45
johanbrand you're welcome03:45
johanbrlooks like you're using the Intel driver, as you should: [    21.335] (II) intel(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) Clarkdale03:46
Peloline 221 i'M seeing output hdmi1 connected but tehchnicaly it'S the dvi port03:47
Pelojohanbr, so it is your opinion that I could enable compiz ?03:47
johanbrthat's probably just a minor cosmetic thing03:47
johanbrlooks like acceleration is working: [    21.890] (II) intel(0): direct rendering: DRI2 Enabled03:47
johanbrso yes, compiz should work fine03:47
PeloI've got a vid playing, if I grab the xchat window and move it around the vid stops, the sounds continues but the video freezes 03:48
Pelotakes a couple of seconds for the video to catch up 03:48
johanbroh...03:49
PeloI read about something similar in a post about jaunty 03:50
johanbrit may well be that the driver still needs some work for your chipset03:50
Pelook 03:50
Pelothis particular processor is barely 5 months old ...03:50
johanbrI believe the decision was made to stick with slightly older userspace parts for lucid03:50
Peloit's the first time ever I've been able to afford ... recent hardware 03:50
johanbryou could try enabling the xorg-edgers ppa and see if there's a difference03:51
johanbrbut don't do that unless you know how to recover from X not starting03:52
Pelogot that enabled, but it didn'T do much , I also tried to enable the intel-gfx-testing/ppa but that just gives me an error during  the apt-get update 03:52
johanbrI think some of those other graphics ppa's were merged into the main xorg-edgers ppa03:53
Pelojohanbr, I've been helping in #ubuntu for a couple of years,  I can recover from a broken x and more , I'm not scare of stuff like that, this computer isn'T  mission critical either, , mind you I would be annoying 03:53
johanbryou could also look at www.intellinuxgraphics.org03:54
Peloany thoughts at what chipset/package I should be looking at ?03:55
johanbrthe 2.11.0 release I guess would be most interesting03:56
johanbrbut it may well be that you need a very recent kernel and X server for that to work03:57
PeloI'M gonna bookmark this and get back to it tomorrow, it's getting late here and I've never had much luck with git stuff 03:59
johanbralright04:00
johanbrthere is a tarball for the release, though04:00
Peloyeah I'm dling that right now 04:01
Pelothanks again for the help04:01
johanbryou're welcome04:02
Pelowtf is  fontsproto ?04:05
* Pelo is compiling the tarball04:05
johanbrheaders for X font stuff, I think04:06
Pelooh, cool I think I got all the dependencies satisfied 04:07
Pelook , make didn,T take long, I guess I'M ready to make install , wish me luck 04:07
johanbrgood luck :)04:08
Pelowow that was quick 04:09
PeloI gess I need to reboot now, brb 04:09
Pelojohanbr, still around ?04:13
johanbryep04:13
Pelohow would I check which dirver I'm using ? log again ? 04:13
johanbryep04:15
johanbrshould have the version number04:15
Pelogot a search string for me ?04:16
johanbrhmm, well I see now your old log already said "module version = 2.11.0"04:16
johanbrso it would appear you were already running that release04:16
Pelo21.096] compiled for 1.8.0.902, module version = 2.11.004:17
Pelooh, ok 04:17
johanbrso I guess nothing's changed?04:17
Pelonope,  first thing I checked was if the video was still lagging when I did other thing 04:18
Peloon the other hand,  flash vid from the internet are no longer choppy in fullscreen 04:18
Pelogo figure 04:18
Pelothe flash thing was on my previous comp04:18
PeloI guess with all the ppa loaded in my sources.list I can just wait for an update that will fix my isses 04:19
Peloany clue on how to get the kernel ppa ?04:19
johanbrI think the kernel ppa is not actually a proper ppa04:20
johanbri.e, you have to download the debs and install by hand04:20
Pelofound one, not sure if it's gonna work https://launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive/ppa04:21
Pelothat dl deb thing is what I did to get the one I have now 04:21
johanbrlooks like that ppa only has a 2.6.32 kernel04:21
Peloyou're right,  sigh.... 04:25
PeloI'll deal with this tomorrow, thanks for the moral support and the help johanbr , have a good night 04:26
Peloor morning or whatever it is where  you are 04:26
johanbryou're welcome04:26

* Pelo is gonna squat in the channel until he gets full support for is intel core i5 650 integrated gpu 18:48
bjsniderPelo, i would have expected that it already was supported19:02
Pelono compiz and video gets choppy when you move other windows around 19:03
bjsniderwhat gpu did they put on it?19:03
Peloclarkdale ?19:04
Peloi,ve upgraded the kernel to 2.6.34-996, I've got the latest intel-glx..... 2.11 I tink 19:05
Pelomodule version = 2.11.019:07
* ilmari is getting annoying X/kernel deadlocks on i7 (arrandale)19:07
PeloI'm disapointed because this is the first time I can afford "recent" hardware and having it not work 100% is a bit dissapointing19:08
* Pelo yucks at the repetition19:08
Peloilmari, how many cores in your i7 ?19:13
ilmari219:13
ilmari(and HT)19:13
Peloand how any cores does the system monitor tell you you have ?19:13
Peloht &19:13
Pelo?19:13
ilmarihyperthreading19:13
Pelomy i5 is 2 cores ht as well, but the system monitor sees 4 cores ( processors) , which puzzles me 19:14
ilmariso four in /proc/cpuinfo, but only two distinct core IDs19:14
ilmariit's four execution units, some of which share most of the hardware19:15
Pelooh, ok , I get ut 19:16
Peloit19:16
Peloback later 19:58

Sarvattthis X mess in maverick is going to take awhile to clean up, I was merging libx11 since it has the silly klingon change but there are a ton of libs waiting to go through NEW that have to be done one at a time with the udeb changes23:28
Sarvattnot to mention all the drivers were synced and require xserver-xorg-dev (>= 2:1.7.6.901) that needs merging too23:30
hyperairklingon change?23:33
Sarvattyeah added klingon language support..23:33
hyperairswt23:34
BUGabundoerk23:35
BUGabundowhat mess?23:35
BUGabundocause I'm on MM23:35
Sarvattjust the fact about 30 or so synced packages didn't build :D23:36
Sarvattall the libs are in depwait for libx11-dev (>= 2:1.3.3-2), all the drivers are in depwait for xserver-xorg-dev (>= 2:1.7.6.901)23:37
Sarvatttheres nothing to worry about BUGabundo, it just wont get built until things are fixed up..23:38
