karolinger | Hello humans, I think I found a bug, but I have no idea how to report it because I neither have a clue how is happening. I leave Ubuntu running with some applications and leave the computer alone by itself without using it, If I pass by I can see the screen saver is running. I go out the house or go to sleep, when I come back, and the login screen what shows up. Something is crashing or logging me out. I know my computer is not restarting because | 01:19 |
---|---|---|
karolinger | my BIOS pauses and shows a menu from which device to boot. I don't see this menu when I come back, I Just see the login screen. I running Ubuntu 10.04. Thanks in advance for your help. | 01:19 |
zeroseven0183 | karolinger: Is it the login screen or just a login window? | 01:28 |
zeroseven0183 | By default, I believe, Ubuntu 10.04 locks the screen after being idle in 5 minutes(?) | 01:28 |
karolinger | the login screen when you first boot | 01:29 |
zeroseven0183 | hmmm... | 01:29 |
karolinger | I know, but I don't have that option enabled | 01:29 |
zeroseven0183 | What are the applications you're running? | 01:29 |
zeroseven0183 | You can file a bug report and state there how can this be replicated. | 01:30 |
karolinger | the problem is that I don't see when is happening | 01:31 |
karolinger | most of the time I run utorrent via Crossover, firefox and google chrome | 01:32 |
zeroseven0183 | It's alright, just list the programs you're running, the system you're using (Ubuntu version also) and how long the machine has been (approximately) idle | 01:32 |
zeroseven0183 | I'll try that on my machine since I'm also using Firefox and Chrome everytime, except utorrent-Crossover. I only use Transmission. :-) | 01:34 |
yofel | hm, hard to say, any crash message in the output of 'dmesg' ? or anything useful in ~/.xsession-errors(.old) ? | 01:36 |
yofel | read .xsession-errors from bottom up as it can be huge | 01:36 |
karolinger | ok | 01:37 |
yofel | karolinger: actually xsession-errors is the logfile for the current session, so rather look at xsession-errors.old | 01:38 |
karolinger | ok | 01:44 |
karolinger | I have found some Fatal IO errors | 01:45 |
karolinger | in the old log | 01:45 |
karolinger | almost at the end of the log | 01:48 |
karolinger | there are other erros, but I'm not sure how to relate them | 01:49 |
yofel | karolinger: can you pastebin the relevant part please so that someone here can have a look at the exact errors? | 01:50 |
yofel | have to go to bed, gn folks | 01:51 |
karolinger | ok I don't know how to pastebin | 01:51 |
yofel | !paste | 01:52 |
ubot4 | For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://tinyurl.com/imagebin | !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic. | 01:52 |

nigelb | bullgard_: oh nice. I was lost figuring out what went wrong | 05:05 |
nigelb | didn't think of extensions | 05:05 |
nigelb | I should have thought fo that first :? | 05:05 |
nigelb | :/ | 05:05 |
DrKenobi | does anyone now a triage guide in spanish? | 08:46 |
ddecator | DrKenobi: i haven't looked at it (i don't know spanish anyway), but i think this will work for you: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Bugs?action=AttachFile&do=view&target=2009-30-01-bug_report_triage_ES_co.odp | 09:18 |
DrKenobi | ddecator, thank you! its a good presentation, but i was looking for something more complete. i'll go on reading in english! thank u again! | 09:28 |
ddecator | DrKenobi: no problem =) | 09:28 |

astraljava | zus: ubuntu-bugsquad@lists.ubuntu.com, state that you have done so. This will be partly proved by visiting your launchpad page (the CoC part). | 12:17 |
zus | astraljava, and the launchpad login is all not the open id portion? | 12:18 |
astraljava | zus: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad | 12:18 |
astraljava | zus: Hmm... for me it's https://launchpad.net/~astraljava, but of course your login is only the part after the tilde (~). | 12:19 |
zus | email is sent... thank you | 12:25 |
astraljava | zus: No prob. :) | 12:28 |
mistrynitesh | i have just started discovering firefox-lp-improvements, and reading the irc logs of class given by bdmurray it sounds like i need to have greasemonkey extension installed - is it so? | 12:32 |
nigelb | mistrynitesh: nope, you dont | 12:32 |
nigelb | if you need, it should pull the dependencies itself | 12:32 |
nigelb | just make sure to disable LP_word_highlighter | 12:33 |
mistrynitesh | nigelb: why so? | 12:33 |
nigelb | mistrynitesh: its a bit buggy. brian is still working on it | 12:33 |

nigelb | yofel: thanks :) | 12:35 |
arand | If a fix is in -proposed, then status should be fix committed right? | 12:47 |
yofel | yes | 12:48 |
arand | Right (LP automation isn't the most releiable thing it seems...) | 12:50 |
yofel | LP automation only works if there's a 'LP: #XXXX' reference in the changelog | 12:51 |
arand | Yea, but apparently it thinks that the fix got released twice, and that -proposed = released :/ | 13:00 |

alex_mayorga | hi! regarding https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/551668 | 15:49 |
ubot4 | Launchpad bug 551668 in nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) "Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't modify brightness on Sony VAIO VPCCW (GT 230M) (affects: 3) (heat: 16)" [Undecided,New] | 15:49 |
alex_mayorga | how do I help to remove tag "needs-xorglog"? I think there two logs for that already | 15:50 |
mrand | alex_mayorga: right next to the tag should be a ... umm, pencil, I think | 15:51 |
alex_mayorga | mrand, I see that | 15:51 |
mrand | Click on that pencil and then go to the end of the tags line - it is there. | 15:51 |
alex_mayorga | just delet that and click the green check? | 15:52 |
mrand | Yep, if the log is there and valid. | 15:52 |
alex_mayorga | no need to change for other tag? | 15:52 |
mrand | You might consider marking it as confirmed as well if there are more than one report, or if you've reproduced it. | 15:52 |
alex_mayorga | mrand: I can still reproduce as of today | 15:55 |
alex_mayorga | I've just confirmed it, anything else for Xorg bugs? | 15:56 |
mrand | alex_mayorga: well, it's a nvidia bug, I assume, not xorg? | 16:00 |
mrand | Unless someone can discover a mode or setting combination that somehow works around it, not sure what the open source community can do about a binary driver. | 16:02 |
alex_mayorga | mrand: I was under the impression nouveau is in use here | 16:10 |
mrand | alex_mayorga: in the original bug report, it says "NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia" | 16:10 |
mrand | but perhaps I'm misunderstanding | 16:11 |
alex_mayorga | mrand: how can I check that? | 16:11 |
alex_mayorga | never mind, "Hardware drivers" nvidia current is in use | 16:14 |
alex_mayorga | I'll disable that and try to reproduce | 16:19 |
nigelb | hggdh: got a minte? | 17:01 |

nigelb | charlie-tca: no problem :) | 17:03 |
nigelb | I only missed a few minutes, should be up on videos :) | 17:03 |
charlie-tca | Yeah. Actually, that was the audio, though | 17:04 |
nigelb | hehe, I guesed that :D | 17:04 |
charlie-tca | All I got was really frustrated trying to ftp it | 17:04 |
nigelb | how did you try to do it? | 17:05 |
nigelb | charlie-tca: um, you're supposed to add it as 'connect to server' and select ssh and enter the details. that approach generally works for me | 17:06 |
charlie-tca | both gftp and sftp. After 4 hours of fighting, I remembered that I could not do that about 4 years ago either | 17:06 |
alex_mayorga | mrand: you there? | 17:33 |
