karolingerHello humans, I think I found a bug, but I have no idea how to report it because I neither have a clue how is happening. I leave Ubuntu running with some applications and leave the computer alone by itself without using it, If I pass by I can see the screen saver is running. I go out the house or go to sleep, when I come back, and the login screen what shows up. Something is crashing or logging me out. I know my computer is not restarting because01:19
karolinger my BIOS pauses and shows a menu from which device to boot. I don't see this menu when I come back, I Just see the login screen. I running Ubuntu 10.04. Thanks in advance for your help.01:19
zeroseven0183karolinger: Is it the login screen or just a login window?01:28
zeroseven0183By default, I believe, Ubuntu 10.04 locks the screen after being idle in 5 minutes(?)01:28
karolingerthe login screen when you first boot01:29
zeroseven0183hmmm...01:29
karolingerI know, but I don't have that option enabled01:29
zeroseven0183What are the applications you're running?01:29
zeroseven0183You can file a bug report and state there how can this be replicated.01:30
karolingerthe problem is that I don't see when is happening01:31
karolingermost of the time I run utorrent via Crossover, firefox and google chrome01:32
zeroseven0183It's alright, just list the programs you're running, the system you're using (Ubuntu version also) and how long the machine has been (approximately) idle01:32
zeroseven0183I'll try that on my machine since I'm also using Firefox and Chrome everytime, except utorrent-Crossover. I only use Transmission. :-)01:34
yofelhm, hard to say, any crash message in the output of 'dmesg' ? or anything useful in ~/.xsession-errors(.old) ?01:36
yofelread .xsession-errors from bottom up as it can be huge01:36
karolingerok01:37
yofelkarolinger: actually xsession-errors is the logfile for the current session, so rather look at xsession-errors.old01:38
karolingerok01:44
karolingerI have found some Fatal IO errors01:45
karolingerin the old log01:45
karolingeralmost at the end of the log01:48
karolingerthere are other erros, but I'm not sure how to relate them01:49
yofelkarolinger: can you pastebin the relevant part please so that someone here can have a look at the exact errors?01:50
yofelhave to go to bed, gn folks01:51
karolingerok I don't know how to pastebin01:51
yofel!paste01:52

zuswhat is the email and what (how) do i show send confirmation i met all the requirements to join the bug squad?12:15
astraljavazus: ubuntu-bugsquad@lists.ubuntu.com, state that you have done so. This will be partly proved by visiting your launchpad page (the CoC part).12:17
zusastraljava,  and  the launchpad login is all not the open id portion?12:18
astraljavazus: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad12:18
astraljavazus: Hmm... for me it's https://launchpad.net/~astraljava, but of course your login is only the part after the tilde (~).12:19
zusemail is sent... thank you12:25
astraljavazus: No prob. :)12:28
mistryniteshi have just started discovering firefox-lp-improvements, and reading the irc logs of class given by bdmurray it sounds like i need to have greasemonkey extension installed - is it so?12:32
nigelbmistrynitesh: nope, you dont12:32
nigelbif you need, it should pull the dependencies itself12:32
nigelbjust make sure to disable LP_word_highlighter12:33
mistryniteshnigelb: why so?12:33
nigelbmistrynitesh: its a bit buggy.  brian is still working on it12:33
mistryniteshnigelb: ok, thanks! :)12:34
yofelhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/50495612:34
ubot4Launchpad bug 504956 in launchpad-gm-scripts "partially hidden comment in bug report (affects: 7) (dups: 3) (heat: 60)" [High,Fix committed]12:34
nigelbyofel: thanks :)12:35
arandIf a fix is in -proposed, then status should be fix committed right?12:47
yofelyes12:48
arandRight (LP automation isn't the most releiable thing it seems...)12:50
yofelLP automation only works if there's a 'LP: #XXXX' reference in the changelog12:51
arandYea, but apparently it thinks that the fix got released twice, and that -proposed = released :/13:00

alex_mayorgahi! regarding https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/55166815:49
ubot4Launchpad bug 551668 in nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) "Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't modify brightness on Sony VAIO VPCCW (GT 230M) (affects: 3) (heat: 16)" [Undecided,New]15:49
alex_mayorgahow do I help to remove tag "needs-xorglog"? I think there two logs for that already15:50
mrandalex_mayorga: right next to the tag should be a ... umm, pencil, I think15:51
alex_mayorgamrand, I see that15:51
mrandClick on that pencil and then go to the end of the tags line - it is there.15:51
alex_mayorgajust delet that and click the green check?15:52
mrandYep, if the log is there and valid.15:52
alex_mayorgano need to change for other tag?15:52
mrandYou might consider marking it as confirmed as well if there are more than one report, or if you've reproduced it.15:52
alex_mayorgamrand: I can still reproduce as of today15:55
alex_mayorgaI've just confirmed it, anything else for Xorg bugs?15:56
mrandalex_mayorga: well, it's a nvidia bug, I assume, not xorg?16:00
mrandUnless someone can discover a mode or setting combination that somehow works around it, not sure what the open source community can do about a binary driver.16:02
alex_mayorgamrand: I was under the impression nouveau is in use here16:10
mrandalex_mayorga: in the original bug report, it says "NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia"16:10
mrandbut perhaps I'm misunderstanding16:11
alex_mayorgamrand: how can I check that?16:11
alex_mayorganever mind, "Hardware drivers" nvidia current is in use16:14
alex_mayorgaI'll disable that and try to reproduce16:19
nigelbhggdh: got a minte?17:01
nigelb*minute17:01
charlie-tcanigelb: I am sorry. I got the uds video, but could not upload it to people.ubuntu.com17:03

nigelbI only missed a few minutes, should be up on videos :)17:03
charlie-tcaYeah. Actually, that was the audio, though17:04
nigelbhehe, I guesed that :D17:04
charlie-tcaAll I got was really frustrated trying to ftp it17:04
nigelbhow did you try to do it?17:05
nigelbcharlie-tca: um, you're supposed to add it as 'connect to server' and select ssh and enter the details.  that approach generally works for me17:06
charlie-tcaboth gftp and sftp. After 4 hours of fighting, I remembered that I could not do that about 4 years ago either17:06
alex_mayorgamrand: you there?17:33
