LedHed | is this the right place to ask Ubuntu/LTSP related questions? | 00:58 |

LedHed | I just installed ltsp-standalone via apt, I have a thin client booting via pxe, but after login, it goes to the CLI on SCREEN_07. How do I get a X Session (or LDM) to start? | 01:00 |
LedHed | I tried making changes to /vat/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf, but the changes dont seem to effect the thinclients | 01:01 |
mhall119 | LedHed: unfortunately all the LTSP guys are on European time | 01:06 |
mhall119 | and have mostly gone to bed | 01:06 |
LedHed | good to know. I'll ask in the morning. | 01:06 |
LedHed | thanks mhall119 | 01:06 |
mhall119 | yeah, they're usually more active then | 01:06 |

LedHed | good morning, I just installed ltps-server-standalone. My thinclients are booting to a Ubuntu login prompt. I attempted to create a user account by chrooting to /opt/ltsp/i386, then issuing the 'adduser' command, then I ran ltsp-update-image. I then rebooted the clients, but I'm unable sign in via the new user account I created. | 15:55 |
LedHed | I guess I was supposed to add the user account to the server rather than the chroot | 16:10 |
sbalneav | LedHed: Yes, correct. | 16:15 |
LedHed | sbalneav, after logging in, I get a Shell on SCREEN_07, is this the default behavior? | 16:16 |
LedHed | I though I would get an X session (GUI) | 16:16 |
sbalneav | Have you created an lts.conf file? If not, the default behaviour SHOULD be a graphical login, but it's possible the video hardware in the thin client isn't being detected correctly. | 16:17 |
LedHed | my test client is a VirtualBox VM. I'll try a physical device. Thanks. | 16:18 |
LedHed | I do get a Graphical Login Prompt with the Ubuntu logo. | 16:19 |
sbalneav | cool. | 16:26 |

LedHed | do I have to have X installed on the server if I want to be able to run X on the clients? | 17:08 |
mhall119 | no | 17:15 |
mhall119 | well, you don't need the X server running | 17:15 |
mhall119 | you will need Xlibs I think | 17:15 |
LedHed | I installed Ubuntu 10.04 server, then installed ltsp-server-standalone. | 17:16 |
LedHed | The only thing in my lts.conf is [default] LDM_AUTOLOGIN=True LDM_USERNAME=user LDM_PASSWORD=***, | 17:17 |
LedHed | when the clients boot up, I get a X mouse pointer, then a xterm, | 17:18 |
LedHed | but no GUI | 17:18 |
LedHed | it was my understanding that the default behavior was for the clients to boot to a GUI. | 17:19 |
