debfxrgreening: a new error?00:04
rgreeningdebfx: yeah, it wants a newer (apparantly) qt ...00:05
lex79I uploaded soprano to ninja00:05
rgreeningmaverick has 4.7.0 beta, which is newer than the 4.7.0 tp one ref in the error and .cpp file00:05
rgreeningty lex7900:05
lex79are we sure that this beta should be build already against qt 4.7 ?00:06
rgreeningdebfx: it wants the new qicon with member function .name, which was a recent addition in 4.7 00:06
rgreeninglex79: well, it's supposed to work against 4.7 00:07
lex79already?00:07
rgreeningafaict00:07
lex79ah00:07
debfxqt really should bump QT_VERSION for every beta00:08
* rgreening agrees00:09
Tm_Tyes, KDE 4.5 is supposed to work with Qt 4.7 ... but requirement is 4.600:10
rgreeningRiddell: kdelibs with qt 4.7.0 wants a newer one for the kstatusnotifier bits in kdeui (qicon.name doesn't appear to be in 4.7.0 beta we have). SO, either we backport a patch for qt or we somehow force kdelibs to depend on 4.6.00:11
Tm_Trgreening: you lack icons with 4.6 IIRC00:12
debfxas qt 4.7 is already in the archive there isn't another option I guess00:12
rgreeningexactly. 00:12
rgreeningso, we need an update/patch for qt 4.7... any takers on making one?00:12
lex79we can packaging a git snapshot of Qt or add the patch00:13
rgreeningI see a volunteer :)00:13
* rgreening points and snickers00:13
lex79volunteer for what? a git snapshot?00:14
rgreeninglex79: not sure what is better trying to get a patch or getting a snapshot00:14
lex79depends if the patch can screw up the rest :P00:15
rgreeningif the patch was small enough and easy to pull out.... I'd be inclined to go that route00:15
rgreeningya00:15
rgreeningeither that, or I patch kdelibs to bypass the qt 4.7 bit it cant find for now00:16
debfxthis is  the commit: http://qt.gitorious.org/qt/qt/commit/a057a48cbac8acbf54a121c63a795480d3f9a8c000:16
lex79uh00:17
rgreeninghehe00:17
lex79if we need only that patch I can do it00:17
rgreeningdebfx: u rok00:17
debfxlet's see if it applies to beta100:18
rgreeninglex79: we may need to have the newer qt, as I got another error.. let me see if I can decipher00:18
lex79debfx: do you want packaging that? I can leave it to you :) no problem for me00:19
lex79ok rgreening00:19
ScottKrgreening: KDE 4.5 is supposed to work with Qt 4.6, so needing something newer would be odd.00:24
Tm_TScottK: needing?00:25
rgreeningScottK: you misunderstand the issue00:25
ScottKOK.00:25
rgreeningScottK: kdelibs can use 4.6 or 4.7. yes00:25
rgreeninghowever, the 4.7 we have is beta and missing stuff. kdelibs picks up 4.7 but fails becasue its missing stuff in the beta00:26
rgreeningso, we either need to force 4.6 or update 4.7 00:26
rgreeningor patch around it in kdelibs00:26
rgreeningI suspect we will want to simply update qt to a more recent snapshot and put it in ninjas...00:27
lex79the problem is also if the other packages need the patch to force 4.600:27
rgreeningyeah, safest would be that we update in ninjas to a newer qt,00:27
lex79if it is, is better have an update qt00:28
lex79yep, i'm downloading qt git00:28
rgreeningas a newer beta will be out in due course.... but in the meantime we can still get thi sup an running00:28
rgreeningty lex7900:28
lex79np00:28
rgreeningwell, lex79, since I will require the newer qt... I will put myself on pause for now... I'll check back later.00:29
lex79ok, I will poke you when I upload qt to ninja00:29
rgreeninglex79: will you update the ninjas packaging page for kde 4.4.80 to indicate you are updating qt? so people will know where we are too... thanks00:30
rgreeningcool00:30
lex79ok00:30
rgreeningok, im out for food. bbiab00:30
lex79qt bzr is not sync'd with archive, it's not a news :P00:31
ScottKworkspace merge is a royal pain.00:50
lex79I think so :)00:53
dhillon-v10hi all :) alright so I was checking the kde merges page: https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Kubuntu/MaverickKDEMerges and found that automoc4 doesn't have an assignee, can i pick that task and work on it, or should I leave it alone?01:31
rgreening_go for it. 01:37
rgreening_the more the merrier dhillon-v1001:37

debfxoh even more build breakage due to qtwebkit split :(10:43
Tm_Thrr10:48
Tm_Tbut it's good split10:48
Riddellyes it'll be a bit painful but I don't see a way around it10:59
debfxi'll be prepare another wiki page11:09
debfxwill debian follow this?11:10
Riddelldebian is in freeze so probably not11:13
debfxyeah but for squeeze+111:16
RiddellI'd expect so, upstream will be releasing separate qtwebkit tars and they'd be behind the times11:17
Riddellbut I need to e-mail them to let them know the status in kubuntu11:19
debfxhttps://wiki.kubuntu.org/QtWebKitBuildDependTransition11:23
debfxI guess kdelibs5-dev needs to depend on libq4-webkit-dev11:30
Riddellthat's a good idea11:30
Riddellglatzor: should I do a SRU with your fix_output.patch update?11:38
RiddellNCommander: so.. qt had a mystery failure on arm15:20
ScottKUrgh.  -- Could NOT find PolkitQt  (missing:  POLKITQT_INCLUDE_DIR POLKITQT_GUI_LIBRARY POLKITQT_CORE_LIBRARY)15:32

DarkwingDuckAnyone know of any good jobs open in the US?15:33
DarkwingDuckThis Discharge is annoying 15:33
ScottKRiddell: Thanks.  That's the one I have.  Odd.15:35
ScottKMore importantly it can't find DBusMenuQt, even though I have that in build-dep too.15:40
RiddellScottK: our build log from lucid also has -- Could NOT find PolkitQt  (missing:  POLKITQT_INCLUDE_DIR POLKITQT_GUI_LIBRARY POLKITQT_CORE_LIBRARY)15:47
Riddellwhich is confusing15:48
ScottKWe didn't have the build-dep in there, so I guess that's not suprising.15:48
* ScottK just added it trying to fix stuff.15:48
ScottKIt's the DBusMenu one that configure is currently failing on.15:49
Riddelllibdbusmenu-qt-dev should give you --   found dbusmenu-qt, version 0.3.215:49
Riddelland presumably you have kubuntu_98_dbusmenu.diff15:49
ScottKI have libdbusmenu-qt-dev in build-dep and the patch, yes.15:50
* ScottK thinks to just drop it for now and move on since it'll be upstream anyway in 4.5.15:51
RiddellI was going to suggest that :)15:52
* ScottK tries again.15:53
ScottKWell that got things through configure in any case ....16:03
ScottKNow to wait a bit.16:03
Riddellrgreening_: were you packaging the new attica?16:06

kishoreI ahve a patch16:10
Riddellkishore: shtylman would be the best guy to ping, he's not here just now, I'll subscribe him to that bug16:10
kishoreRiddell: thanks16:11
ScottKRiddell: QWebView would be in the new Qt web thing, right?16:17
Riddellit'll be in libqt4-webkit-dev16:18
RiddellI wonder if that got added as a build-dep to kdelibs5-dev16:19
ScottKApparently not.16:20
debfxRiddell: I prepared a patch for the kdelibs package though it fails to build as pkg-kde-tools needs to be updated16:20

kishore_Im still working on the recovery process thanks to this mistake17:11
kishore_:(17:11
shtylmankishore_: true... we can be smarter about letting you know that it will be formatted... the checkbox should have been checked letting you know tho17:12
kishore_shtylman: basically, I do installations so often that the process is so repetetive that i oversee some warnings17:12
shtylmanfor maverick the install process is getting an overhaul17:13
shtylmankishore_: heh17:13
rgreeningmornin all17:13
kishore_shtylman: the patch i attach does just that17:13
macoshtylman: if the format in the dropdown doesnt match current, make the checkbox checked and immutable so that they cant say "oh no, change the format, but dont format it" because the ability to uncheck that box while choosing a new format is *confusing*17:13
shtylmankishore_: gotcha... k I will take a look at that, thanks17:14
debfxRiddell: libdpkg-dev is also in universe, not sure if that's intended17:15
kishore_maco: the patch does just that. the check box is checked but disabled when another fs type is selected17:15
macooh yay :)17:15
macosaw some very angry users due to that17:15
kishore_maco: Text with the checkbox reads "Format required" when this is the case17:16

debfxRiddell: libqt4-webkit-dev dep for kde4libs: https://code.launchpad.net/~debfx/kdelibs/ubuntu/+merge/2582017:17
kishore_shtylman: by the way, how do you test ubiquity code? I booted up a live disk, hacked the files in there and tested17:30
shtylmanthat is a pretty good way17:31
kishore_shtylman: It was pretty painful in that i had to wait till i get to partioning state to test and the installer is pretty slow17:31
shtylmanheh yea17:31
shtylmanI usually have a livecd with nfs or sshfs of my desktop mounted17:31
shtylmanand symlink the right python files17:31
shtylmanso that I don't loose changes17:31
shtylmanbut yea... testing is pretty rough17:31
kishore_Ah i see.17:32
kishore_But you still have to pass each stage of the installer before it?17:32
shtylmanwell, you can do two things... you can either preseed those steps17:32
shtylmanand the installer will avoid them17:32
shtylmanbut I have never done too much preseeding17:32
shtylmanbut that is the preferred way to skip those steps17:33
kishore_ok17:33
=== kishore_ is now known as kishore
shtylmanin the past, I have done a hack where you just make any of the other steps (plugins) have a syntax error17:33

shtylmanI dunno if I would recommend that route tho17:34
kishorehehe17:34
shtylmanalso.. using virtualbox instead of kvm helps17:34
shtylmanI find virtualbox much much faster17:34
kishorewonder what makes it slow though. It would not have had been so hard if it were fast17:34
shtylmanI dunno17:34
shtylmanbut yes...it is very slow in kvm17:35
shtylmaneverything is slow in kvm for me in kde17:35
kishoreWell i did my tests by booting off the live disk on my netbook17:35
kishoreso no virtual machine there17:36

shtylmankishore: what language did you use?17:38
shtylmanenglish?17:38
shtylmancause apparently there have been reports of slowness when not using english17:38
shtylmanand yes.. people have complained of slowness... but I have never been able to track it down17:38
shtylmanhow the hell do I make bootchart ignore everything before a certain point...17:42
kishoreshtylman: English17:45
kishoreI dont know for python but are there any profiling tools?17:46

kishorehmmm should try it then17:47
shtylmanindeed... I have run it before to catch one hotspot17:47
shtylmanbut haven't since17:47
shtylmanif you can reproduce the slowness... by all means try to track it down17:48
kishoreThere was a recent effort to move code from python to c++. does that apply to the installer too?17:48
shtylmannope17:48
shtylmaninstaller will remain python17:48
shtylmanit cannot change17:48
shtylmanfor too many reasons :)17:48
kishoreok. ill try to profile it then17:48
kishorei've always wanted to learn a bit of python anyway! :)17:49
shtylmanvery good :)17:49

apacheloggerRiddell: Nightrose and me only past wednesday I suppose20:11
ScottKThat's only slightly obscure20:11
ScottKrgreening: ^^^20:11
Riddelldoes debfx even want to be a member or is ScottK just assuming? :)20:11
* ScottK recalls it's come up before.20:12
rgreeningScottK: :)  I'm a fan of the show, what can I say20:12
macoi was just asked if babelfish (as in H2G2) were real20:12
macorgreening: me too!20:12
NightroseRiddell: yea but after friday would be awesome for me20:12
Nightrosewell friday works too20:12
macorgreening: i have a DVD of it sitting here. Riddell and i watched a few episodes one night20:12
* Riddell frankly somewhat perplexed by the affection some americans have for dated english sit coms20:13
* ScottK too.20:14
* ScottK enjoyed that one in it's day, but it seems a bit past.20:14
debfxRiddell: yeah I even added my application to the meetings wiki page :)20:14
ScottKWhat do I do about: dh_sameversiondep: /usr/bin/dh_sameversiondep: no same version dependencies for 'sameVersionDep:kdelibs5-dev:kdebase-workspace-bin' found (at Depends of the kdebase-workspace-dev package)20:16
ScottKdebfx: Is that the problem you were just fixing with pkg-kde-tools?20:17
macoRiddell: they dont tend to reach here until they're dated there20:17
macoRiddell: so while that show is likely from the 60s or thereabouts, it was on tv in the US in the 90s20:18
Riddellwasn't the US busy watching Friends in the 90s?20:18
ScottKRiddell: That wouldn't explain rgreening, but he's always tough to explain in any case.20:19
macowell they didnt air at the same time :P20:19
macoand i didnt watch Friends20:19
debfxScottK: yes20:19
debfxshould be fixed now20:19

macoRiddell: it was one of the suggested ones like 6mo or a year ago20:23
rgreeningScottK: being an enigma takes a soecial talent :)20:42

lex79rgreening: what's the error now?21:06
vbgunzfellas. I have an esata hdd. I ran into nothing but headaches trying to hotswap it *but* something happened and now it works. I just want to share my experience here because I don't think this is a fluke. The answer is connecting the esata disk through usb first. mount it, check it, unmount and turn off. from this point out reboot after reboot (even the same session) I could hotswap using esata indefinitely. something about the usb simply solved it 22:29
vbgunzfor me.22:29
vbgunzcould you guys look into making this simpler? I should not have plugged it into usb first for this to work. it's a hotswappable esata disk and they're extrememly popular and a bit older than modern. whether or not my connection was a fluke, esata does indeed work and should not be problematic. that really is all.22:31
vbgunzmaybe someone could look into why I needed to use usb to solve it. I hope my experience helps in some way. have a good day!22:32

shtylmanhmm... does latest kde trunk build against these qt packages we have?23:14
shtylmancause I get errors wrt the dbus menu stuff23:14
Sputaaah. good old dbus menu. which apparently decided to suicide again and killed all the right-click context menus in the tray.23:15
shtylmanheh23:15
shtylmanRiddell: the version of qt we have packaged doesn't have agateu's patches...23:18
seeleRiddell: i start an internship next week so I'm not available until after 23:00 CET23:32
shtylmanRiddell: shouldn't libqt4-dev depend on libqt4-webkit-dev now?23:38
shtylmanlikewise... I can't buid kde trunk with our new qt packages from experimental... :(23:39
shtylmanmight have lied about that last one... rerunning again with qtwebkit installed before I ran configure23:43
shtylmanshall see if results are different23:43
