FlamingLinuxhello, does anyone know how to move the buttons to the left in Xubuntu Lucid Lynx?03:09
ochosiFlamingLinux, go to settings > settings manager > window manager > and there drag and drop the buttons03:13
FlamingLinuxthank you03:14
ochosiFlamingLinux, having said that: themes can also hardcode the button position03:14

DistressHello, i have a bit of a problem. Some time ago i installed xubuntu on my mothers computer for safety reasons, its an old hp laptop. Now, all of a sudden the wireless stopped working, and if i right click the network icon in the top bar the "activate wireless" option is grayed out and unchecked. I tried rebooting, updating, rebooting, uninstalling the wireless driver and installing it again.09:10
DistressI have no more options09:10
DistressPlease help!09:10
psycho_oreosprobably its missing a firmware, which chipset brand name and model?09:11
Distressbrb checking09:13
Distressbut how could it work earlier and stop working all of a sudden if firmware is mising?09:13
psycho_oreoswell its hard to say, anything is remotely possible09:14
DistressTHe laptop is a HP Compaq nx611009:15
psycho_oreosI've noticed ubuntu likes to create alternative directories for firmwares whenever a new kernel has been installed and if the proprietary driver was installed in the previous kernel version, in the upgraded and now booted up kernel version will not see those proprietary drivers for example09:15
psycho_oreospastebin your lspci -nnk output09:15
psycho_oreoss/{driver,drivers}/{firmware,firmwares}/09:16
Distresspastebin.org/27802009:17
psycho_oreoshmm thought so, broadcrap.. even worse, there's no b43 module loaded09:18
psycho_oreoscould it be that b43 is blacklisted?09:18
psycho_oreoshmm wait maybe its deliberately removed, there's no traces09:19
Distressbut according to the proprietary drivers dingy its activated09:19
psycho_oreosI believe you may have activated the wrong way.. proprietary drivers for that instance would probably be using wl instead of b43.. wl doesn't support that specific chipset, b43 however otoh does09:20
psycho_oreosmodprobe -l| grep wl| wc -l09:21
Distressit said 1709:22
psycho_oreoserr whoops09:22
psycho_oreosmodprobe -l| grep wl.ko| wc -l09:22
Distress009:22
psycho_oreosmodprobe -l| grep b43.ko| wc -l09:23

psycho_oreosweird.. so the driver is there (at least the right one and free/open one)09:24
psycho_oreossudo modprobe b4309:24
Distresshmm, did nothing09:25
psycho_oreosnope, check iwconfig for wlan009:25
Distresswhat should i look for? theres alot in the wlan0 section09:26
psycho_oreospastebin the last 20 or so lines of dmesg09:26
Distresspastebin.org/27805009:28
psycho_oreosnothing there09:28
Distressshould i just format and re-install the system?09:29

psycho_oreospastebin that09:30
Distresspastebin.org/27805909:31
psycho_oreosstill nothing there09:31
psycho_oreossomething is telling me you're not doing it right09:31
Distressyeah might be09:31
psycho_oreosdmesg| tail -30 would and should display the last 30 lines of dmesg output09:32
psycho_oreoscopy and paste exactly what I typed into the terminal09:32
Distressi get 62 lines09:34
psycho_oreosok copy and paste those into pastebin09:34
Distresspastebin.org/27807309:34
psycho_oreosI can't see any output from what you pasted, try another service, like pastebin.ca09:36
Distresshmm, .ca isnt loading. but its weird, i can see output from my other computer09:38
Distresstrying .com09:39
Distresspastebin.com/YRZ9jCAY09:39
psycho_oreosahh there we go, some progress ok, what I need is the last 30 lines of dmesg.. did you do dmesg| tail -30 ?09:40
psycho_oreoswait, nm I see that09:41
psycho_oreoslsmod| grep b4309:41
Distresspastebin.com/bb5dhiqU09:42
psycho_oreoshmm weird.. try using that interface through networkmanager or whatever you use09:43
psycho_oreosinterface as in wlan009:43
Distresscant activate wlan009:46
psycho_oreoswhat about scanning, does it support scanning? like can you see other wireless networks?09:47
Distressno thats the problem, activating wlan0 is unchecked and grayed out09:48
Distressand i cant do anything like that09:48
psycho_oreosok go back into terminal and do iwlist wlan0 scanning09:48
psycho_oreoserr sudo iwlist wlan0 scanning09:48
Distress"interface doesn't support scanning: network is down"09:49
psycho_oreossudo ifconfig wlan0 up09:49
psycho_oreosand repeat that same command again09:49
Distressunkown error 13209:50

Distresspastebin.com/xCZ5d3xb09:56
psycho_oreosweird09:56
Distressyeah09:57
psycho_oreosto say the least, once loading b43, dmesg should have entries about b43 such as the calling of regdom, etc09:58

gotttorenata: you need the device name - e.g. /dev/sdb1 - but use   sudo fdisk -l   to find the right one20:06

dezza_kQuick question, and I'm not holding out much hope for answer. Using an Nvidia GeForce 6200. Got a 1920x1080 plugged into the DVI socket and a 1280x1024 monitor in the VGA socket. Have twinview enabled, but the VGA screen will no go to a usable resolution above 1024x768 (same even on a single display set-up). It reports as being a CRT screen even though it's LCD. Any suggestions?20:20
dezza_kOh, using the Nvidia drivers 195.36.15 and X11 1.7.620:21
gotttothere's some docs for nvidia in /usr/share/docs iirc - anything useful in there dezza_k ?20:22
xbontongottto: changed the refresh rate i hope it works ty ;)20:25
dezza_kgotto: There doesn't appear to be documentation as such, but there are some source code for what appear to be sample apps. I'm gonna take a look through those.20:25

cristian_cops21:34
cristian_cUp to jaunty everything worked. In this version there was a window called Login Window and the Accessibility tab, where you could choose the sounds for the startup and login21:35
cristian_chow can I fix this?21:37
