[02:52] has anyone here gotten the global menu to work with xfce4-panel? [03:09] hello, does anyone know how to move the buttons to the left in Xubuntu Lucid Lynx? [03:13] FlamingLinux, go to settings > settings manager > window manager > and there drag and drop the buttons [03:14] thank you [03:14] FlamingLinux, having said that: themes can also hardcode the button position [03:14] FlamingLinux, but with most themes the drag and drop works [03:14] oh? thanks for letting me know :) [03:15] np [06:35] hi people, need help to get a canon mp640 under xubuntu 10.04 working,i downloaded the latest sane from the sane webpage and i did ./configure, make, make install [06:35] , i installed xsane form the ubuntu package manager, but when i start xsane it says no devices avaiable but the scanner is connected and i can print with it [09:10] Hello, i have a bit of a problem. Some time ago i installed xubuntu on my mothers computer for safety reasons, its an old hp laptop. Now, all of a sudden the wireless stopped working, and if i right click the network icon in the top bar the "activate wireless" option is grayed out and unchecked. I tried rebooting, updating, rebooting, uninstalling the wireless driver and installing it again. [09:10] I have no more options [09:10] Please help! [09:11] probably its missing a firmware, which chipset brand name and model? [09:13] brb checking [09:13] but how could it work earlier and stop working all of a sudden if firmware is mising? [09:14] well its hard to say, anything is remotely possible [09:15] THe laptop is a HP Compaq nx6110 [09:15] I've noticed ubuntu likes to create alternative directories for firmwares whenever a new kernel has been installed and if the proprietary driver was installed in the previous kernel version, in the upgraded and now booted up kernel version will not see those proprietary drivers for example [09:15] pastebin your lspci -nnk output [09:16] s/{driver,drivers}/{firmware,firmwares}/ [09:17] pastebin.org/278020 [09:18] hmm thought so, broadcrap.. even worse, there's no b43 module loaded [09:18] could it be that b43 is blacklisted? [09:19] hmm wait maybe its deliberately removed, there's no traces [09:19] but according to the proprietary drivers dingy its activated [09:20] I believe you may have activated the wrong way.. proprietary drivers for that instance would probably be using wl instead of b43.. wl doesn't support that specific chipset, b43 however otoh does [09:21] modprobe -l| grep wl| wc -l [09:22] it said 17 [09:22] err whoops [09:22] modprobe -l| grep wl.ko| wc -l [09:22] 0 [09:23] modprobe -l| grep b43.ko| wc -l [09:23] 1 [09:24] weird.. so the driver is there (at least the right one and free/open one) [09:24] sudo modprobe b43 [09:25] hmm, did nothing [09:25] nope, check iwconfig for wlan0 [09:26] what should i look for? theres alot in the wlan0 section [09:26] pastebin the last 20 or so lines of dmesg [09:28] pastebin.org/278050 [09:28] nothing there [09:29] should i just format and re-install the system? [09:29] no [09:29] dmesg| tail -30 [09:30] pastebin that [09:31] pastebin.org/278059 [09:31] still nothing there [09:31] something is telling me you're not doing it right [09:31] yeah might be [09:32] dmesg| tail -30 would and should display the last 30 lines of dmesg output [09:32] copy and paste exactly what I typed into the terminal [09:34] i get 62 lines [09:34] ok copy and paste those into pastebin [09:34] pastebin.org/278073 [09:36] I can't see any output from what you pasted, try another service, like pastebin.ca [09:38] hmm, .ca isnt loading. but its weird, i can see output from my other computer [09:39] trying .com [09:39] pastebin.com/YRZ9jCAY [09:40] ahh there we go, some progress ok, what I need is the last 30 lines of dmesg.. did you do dmesg| tail -30 ? [09:41] wait, nm I see that [09:41] lsmod| grep b43 [09:42] pastebin.com/bb5dhiqU [09:43] hmm weird.. try using that interface through networkmanager or whatever you use [09:43] interface as in wlan0 [09:46] cant activate wlan0 [09:47] what about scanning, does it support scanning? like can you see other wireless networks? [09:48] no thats the problem, activating wlan0 is unchecked and grayed out [09:48] and i cant do anything like that [09:48] ok go back into terminal and do iwlist wlan0 scanning [09:48] err sudo iwlist wlan0 scanning [09:49] "interface doesn't support scanning: network is down" [09:49] sudo ifconfig wlan0 up [09:49] and repeat that same command again [09:50] unkown error 132 [09:51] pastebin your ls -al /lib/firmware/b43 [09:53] pastebin.com/6G6CRari [09:55] pastebin your ls -al /lib| grep firmware [09:56] pastebin.com/xCZ5d3xb [09:56] weird [09:57] yeah [09:58] to say the least, once loading b43, dmesg should have entries about b43 such as the calling of regdom, etc [10:02] god damn it [10:02] guess ill format [10:02] you could try to boot to older kernel [10:03] okay ill try [10:07] Hmm, just noticed there isnt any menu.lst in the grub directory [10:08] you probably have grub2 [10:08] !grub2 [10:08] GRUB2 is the default Ubuntu boot manager since Karmic. Using an Nvidia GeForce 6200. Got a 1920x1080 plugged into the DVI socket and a 1280x1024 monitor in the VGA socket. Have twinview enabled, but the VGA screen will no go to a usable resolution above 1024x768 (same even on a single display set-up). It reports as being a CRT screen even though it's LCD. Any suggestions? [20:21] Oh, using the Nvidia drivers 195.36.15 and X11 1.7.6 [20:22] there's some docs for nvidia in /usr/share/docs iirc - anything useful in there dezza_k ? [20:25] gottto: changed the refresh rate i hope it works ty ;) [20:25] gotto: There doesn't appear to be documentation as such, but there are some source code for what appear to be sample apps. I'm gonna take a look through those. [20:25] k [21:24] Hi guys [21:27] I tried to select the startup and login sounds [21:27] in Lucid 10.04 [21:28] here I was told that with Lucid would restore service [21:29] but I can not find the option [21:30] I also installed Gdm2setup, but it does not have these options === kai_kracker is now known as kai_62656 [21:34] Fino a jaunty funzionava tutto. In tale versione c'èra la finestra chiamata Login Window e la scheda Accessibility, dalla quale si potevano scegliere i suoni per il login e lo startup [21:34] ops [21:35] Up to jaunty everything worked. In this version there was a window called Login Window and the Accessibility tab, where you could choose the sounds for the startup and login [21:37] how can I fix this?
