CtrlAltcan a icon of the main menu change depending on the theme that is being used?00:39
ChesamoCtrlAlt: Yes00:44
CtrlAltthx,;lookit's icon is always black00:48
ChesamoCtrlAlt: Typo?00:49
CtrlAltonly the comma :P00:50
CtrlAlthttps://launchpad.net/lookit00:51
ChesamoCtrlAlt: Not everything changes. Usually things like GEdit, Synaptic, etc. change. Rarely do additional packages have extra icon sets.00:52
CtrlAltso I should let it be?00:54
CtrlAlti always had the "take screenshot" icon on the panel, and this is waaay better :)00:55
ChesamoCtrlAlt: Yes, unless you want to create your own icon. You can manually edit each Launcher and override its settings.00:55
CtrlAltyeah i've already done that00:56
CtrlAltit's ok :)00:56
CtrlAltit has a bright ico which is used on the panel with dark themes, so i just changed it on the menu00:57

ChintaHi everyone, problem: I connect to internet via a router but for some reason I can only connect to the router with a wired connection, wireless fails to connect. I just moved to a different apartment, in the old one the wireless connection to the same router worked fine but using a different modem. Can anyone help me? I have no idea where to start from.05:58
ddecatorso it sees the network i'm guessing?05:59
ChintaAhmm... I can see the router's name, and it tries to connect (green balls spinning), but it just fails, if thats what you ask06:01
PureEvilhi06:01
ddecatorChinta: strange. is there a password for the network?06:02
ChintaI reset the router in case it was a router's password's issue. There shouldnt be any.06:04
PureEvilany here know how to fix some problems I'm having running dual monitors on a ATI graphic gard?06:04
PureEvilCard*06:04
ddecatorPureEvil: sorry, not something i'm familiar with, hopefully someone else can help you out06:04
PureEvilyeah nobody seems to have a answer lol06:05
PureEvilATI dont even have drivers that work on 10.0406:05
ddecatorChinta: try right-clicking the network manager applet, select edit connections, and if you see yours listed in the wireless area selecting it, click edit, then check the box to connect automatically06:06
ddecatorPureEvil: yah, that's the toughest part...06:06
PureEvilwell the only other problem I'm having is with the game uplink lol06:06
PureEvilfor the record the problem I'm having is that the DCI monitor wants to refresh the screen alot, anytime there are high graphic items...Flash, You Tube, Screen Saver, some pics.06:08
Chintaddecator: is there a command to try to connect to the router so that I can see what the problem is? (I cant see the wireless networks now that Im wired to the router)06:10
ddecatorChinta: there isn't really a simple one that i know of06:11
ChintaUhmmm, so you think I should disconnect and make sure that the "connect automatically" box is ticked?06:12
ddecatorwell you can check that while on a wired connection06:15
Chintauhmmm... how?06:15
ddecatorright-click the network manager applet (the arrows if you're using the lucid default) and select "Edit Connections"06:15
PureEvilmy labtop works wireless but not wired lol06:15
PureEvilI just gave up on that one06:16
ddecatorthen find the Wireless sections and see if the network you want to connect to is listed06:16
ChintaOh, I see now, thanks. In fact, it is listed several times. Can that be a problem?06:17
PureEvildo other people near you have wifi routers lol06:18
ddecatorshouldn't be, but you might as well reduce it to one06:18
ChintaOk, I will delete all the entries of my router. And yes, there are neighbors around with routers.06:19
PureEvilI know in my apartment there are like 4 connections that say linksys lol06:20
ChintaActually most neighbors have a similar internet connection because high-speed Internet is included in the rent (Finland freaks). Sadly, tech support doesnt support Linux and I refuse to go back to Windows.06:22
ChintaBy the way, is it possible to connect to the same router twice, one using a cable and another one using the wireless?06:24
ddecatorsimultaneously, not that i know of06:25
=== PureEvil is now known as PureEvil_AFK
ChintaOh, then Im a shameless newbie. I must disconnect the cable and thus from Internet before I can see if I can connect to the router.06:26
ChintaIll be back.06:27

NongA_TongEgreetings.... I'm really hoping that someone can help a little...  LAst night I upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 via update manager, and now my wifi is broke.  The information on the forums was sadly inconclusive providing no workable solution that I could find.  Could anyone here point me in the right direction?15:27
NongA_TongEI should clarify that this upgrade was just an interrim upgrade so that I can then upgrade to 10/04 lts15:28

NongA_TongEhobgoblin,  thanks for the help.  I don't know why that thread didn't come up in my initial search.  there are about 5 other threads related to lost wifi with the 9.10 upgrade, and none offers nearly enough help.16:40

Mindgamerhi. i have trouble configuring ubuntu (9.10) to mount my RAID1 at boot correctly so that it is also shared out as a Samba share. somewhy permissions or something gets messed up so that when accessing the share over the network, i don not have adequate persmissions. can someone please point me in the right direction to solve this17:55
holsteinMindgamer: can you access the windows box from the linux box?17:59
holsteinyou want to pastebin your samba config file?17:59
holsteinare you sure the user/pass matches?17:59
Mindgamerno.. actually i am sitting behing the windows box and remote to the linux box.. working over VNC. I do have physical access to the linux box but it has no keyboard nor screen18:00
holsteini used a GUI once too18:01
holsteinsamba share manager or something like that18:01
* holstein stopped using samba not too long ago18:01
Mindgamersamba conf i think: http://pastebin.com/jpY8c2xm18:05
Mindgameri think there shouldnt be a user/pass mismatch.. i think i disabled guest access.. and if there was a user mismatch i shouldnt have access at all? but i have read access18:05
holsteincool18:06
holsteinthats something18:06
holsteinis this going to be outside your firewall?18:06
Mindgameryes, i have samba share manager or alike installed, but it does not detect my RAID1-LVM ... only the low level partitions18:06
holsteinif its just at your house18:06
Mindgamerno - inside firewall18:06
holsteinyou can try just easing up on the security18:06
holsteinuntil it works18:07
holsteinand i forget the resart command18:07
Mindgamertrue, but i have to make it work correctly in the end .. i want to make the share also accessible over sftp18:07
holsteinbut you want to restart samba after chagnes18:07
Mindgamerthrough a tunnel or something18:07
holsteini dont see anything leaping off the page there in that .conf18:08
Mindgamerok, but i dont really know how to lax the security.. just try to enable guest access?18:08
holsteinMindgamer: you could try that18:08
holsteintemporarily18:09
Mindgamerholstein: should i use user/share/server authentication mode?18:11
Mindgameri do not know the difference18:11
Mindgamerlooking at samba server settings atm18:11
Chesamoholstein: sftp isn't run through samba18:14
holstein??18:14
ChesamoI mean uh,18:14
ChesamoMindgamer18:14
holsteinChesamo: i didnt mean to imply that18:14
holsteinChesamo: OH18:15
ChesamoSorry, I misread the lines18:15
holsteingotcha :)18:15
MindgamerChesamo: yeah i know.. in any case i want to expose the box later to the internet, so i would like to get the security right18:15
holsteinMindgamer: your reading /usr/share/doc/samba-doc/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/ServerType.html ?18:15
holsteinto be honest, last time i did a samba config, it was for a printer, and there was a burnt sacrifice offered ;)18:16
ChesamoMindgamer: I use SFTP usually (much easier to set up than FTP imho) and clients like FileZilla can natively access the server without Samba18:16
MindgamerChesamo: thanks, i will keep that in mind18:17
Mindgameri am going nuts here. When i add the share manually through gnome, everything works... after i restart.. the share is available from windows. however - through gnome it is no longer possible to modify share settings... i have no obvious way of stopping sharing files...18:45
holsteinwhy do you want to stop sharing?18:47
holsteinfrom the server side?18:47
Mindgameri want to rename the share.. and i want to understand how to set the share up so that only i can access it, not everyone in the workgroup...18:48
Mindgamerand i want to see my current settings for a particular share.. i have no way of seeing them..18:48
Mindgamersigh, perhaps i should just be happy it works for now and waith for ubuntu 15.04?18:50
Mindgamerrebooting both systems to see if i then still have access.. thanks for the support holstein :) later18:52

kermiachey people :) I was just asked a weird question that hopefully somone knows the answer to. What dows the small keyboard and the human figure at the boot splash mean? -- http://is.gd/cqwqD23:22
ChesamoThe keyboard changes the keyboard layout23:22
Chesamoand the human is the accessibility options (if you have them installed)23:23
kermiacok. that's what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure as it was on the bootsplash. Thanks Chesamo :)23:24
ChesamoYou're welcome.23:24
