JVoltHello02:17
JVoltI've got a question... I installed Ubuntu, i had an one.ubuntu.com acc, then just got a free plain. But my computer dont identify that i'm logged in on firefox, i can't see the "add computer" button as said in help02:20
kermiacJVolt: The link in the topic should help with that - http://bit.ly/caHbOf It's a known issue.02:23
JVoltAw.. kk. Thanks very much kermiac =D02:23
kermiacnp JVolt :)02:23
BookmanI've tried for three months to get Ubuntu One to work properly and reliably to no avail.  Is this ever going to work like the competition does today?  They will only get better......03:02
BookmanI think that maybe you are chasing a moving target here.03:05
BookmanNever mind then, drop box works fine for me.03:10
BookmanI don't understand UbuntuOne....questions asked...no answer.  I just don't get it.  Are you serious or just a trial to see what happens?03:12
BookmanSo, if I upgraded and paid actual money, this is the service I would get?  I get better service from dropbox for free!03:13
BookmanHello?03:15
BookmanOk, dropbox installed and working fine.  I don't understand your problems here...03:19
kermiacBookman: The U1 developers are usually around weekdays roughly between 13:00 - 21:00 utc03:19
Bookmankermiac, too late for me I'm afraid.  Already converted.03:19
Bookman100% functional on the first attempt....I don't understand why Ubuntu One cannot do that.  My money is subscribed with dropbox...03:26
BookmanAnd it actually is....03:27
BookmanOk, UbuntuOne, thanks but no thanks...my money is on DropBox...works wonderfully.03:30
BookmanSeemless03:31
BookmanFast03:31
BookmanNobody can dispute this out of 90 people online?03:33
kklimondawhy? you have made your mind so what's the point?03:33
=== cpg|away is now known as cpg
BookmanNot made my mind.  Asking for help proving the worth of ubuntuone03:34
BookmanSilence is an answer03:36
kklimondalooks like that, doesn't it?03:36
BookmanI love to contribute to open source but this is insane.......03:38
Bookmanno actual ongoing contibution to contibute to03:38
Bookman*contribution, contribute03:38
kklimondawell, it is still in a beta phase - how long have you spent here working with developers on your issues?03:39
facundobatistaBookman, beyond the service quality (we're working hard to improve it), Ubuntu One is a lot more than file sync03:39
facundobatistaBookman, desktop's couch db replication, contacts syncing (including phone contact), bookmark syncing, tomboy notes syncing, etc03:40
BookmanI'm looking for basic file sync so maybe this is the wrong place to begin with.03:40
BookmanI will stick with drop box.  Thanks and good luck!03:43

talvanyone from the music store team about?10:12
popeytalv: you might want to explain your problem and 'honk' for support10:12
talvcheers popey10:14
talvi still cant get hold of the songs i paid for https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-client/+bug/578798 thats my bug report, all i need is my download count increased by one ive been asking for it for 2 weeks now, honk10:16
ubot4Launchpad bug 578798 in ubuntuone-client "Cant Download Multiple Songs With The Same Filenames (affects: 1) (heat: 6)" [Undecided,New]10:16
ryeaquarius, is there any update on bug #578798 ?10:17
ubot4Launchpad bug 578798 in ubuntuone-client "Cant Download Multiple Songs With The Same Filenames (affects: 1) (heat: 6)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/57879810:17
talvrye i followed another bug which is almost the same theres supposed ly a patch comited but ive still gnot been able to get my songs, some guy called alceu was supposed to look into it but i havent seen him in this room since i asked last10:18
aquariustalv, alecu is on holiday this week -- he's been looking into that bug in detail10:18
popeytalv: if patches are committed that doesn't necessarily mean they've been deployed onto servers yet, so it might not have taken effect.10:18
popey(just fyi) :)10:19
talvrye ahh i see, popey thanks for the heads up10:19
popeynp10:19
popeyI appreciate it's frustrating for you, but just wanted you to have the 'right' expectations of a 'committed' patch :)10:20
talvim trying to be patient i really dont want a refund cause id rather put some money ubuntus way itd just be nice to get a bit more info on what was happening with regards to it all, but rys just said alecu is away, now i know that im fine lol sorry if i started off a bit aggressively10:23
ryetalv, here is what's happening behind the scenes - ubuntuone is using 7d api to get information about the files.10:24
ryetalv, wait, let me re-read the info i have10:25
ryebug #54707410:26
ubot4Launchpad bug 547074 in rhythmbox-ubuntuone-music-store "Songs don't download if two have the same name (affects: 11) (dups: 1) (heat: 68)" [High,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/54707410:26
talvokay :)10:26
ryetalv, ok, so, 7d provides information about track name, artist etc. but not track number. In case the song title appears multiple times in an album then the file names start to collide. 7d provides unique ID for the mp3 file (e.g. 23r23rwerw) but having that as the part of the filename will be too confusing to the user.10:29
talvrye, yeah i figured it'd be something like that10:30
talvrye, thanks for clarifying :)10:31
kbmaniac_bug #55638810:31
ubot4Launchpad bug 556388 in ubuntuone-client "KeyError: '/home/stub/.ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One (affects: 11) (heat: 54)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/55638810:31
kbmaniac_trying to fix it,10:31
ryetalv, current solution (which is what has been committed but not yed rolled out) is to have the counter appended to the file name10:31
kbmaniac_getting following from server10:31
kbmaniac_type: TRY_AGAIN10:32
kbmaniac_  comment: "Maximum retries (5) reached. Please try again.\nOriginal exception: DisconnectionError: Already disconnected"10:32
kbmaniac_straight after auth10:32
kbmaniac_newbe to ubuntu one code, looks like server has a problem ?10:32
ryekbmaniac, while the bug about KeyError is client-side currently the servers are extremely slow to respond, that's why the client is not able to connect10:33
ryekbmaniac, the official state is "performance is degraded, we're working hard on a solution."10:34
kbmaniac_ok10:34
kbmaniac_so I solution is in the pipeline :)10:34
popeyrye: ..and the unofficial state?  ;)10:34
kbmaniac_well .. I can't sync anything so I would gess 'ain't useable' ... lol10:35
ryepopey, unofficial state - the database is the bottleneck.10:40
ryebeuno, btw, how come that web UI is fast while syncdaemon access is slow?10:40
ryehowever... it is not fast now10:41
ryekbmaniac, yes, it is not really usable now, The queues are being processed but it is extremely slow and coupled with bug #575817 and #585953 syncdaemon becomes unreliable in such condition10:43
ubot4Launchpad bug 575817 in ubuntuone-client (Ubuntu) (and 1 other project) "Interrupted upload is not retried (affects: 98) (dups: 5) (heat: 498)" [High,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/57581710:43

ryeTyriel, the goal is to have everything re-enabled next Tuesday (1st of June)12:31

=== teknico is now known as teknico_away
beunorye, the web ui is fast because it accesses the DB directly13:10
ryebeuno, api servers ?13:12
beunorye, yeah, the web ui doesn't go through api servers13:12
ryebeuno, but api servers go to db as well, looks like directly13:14
beunorye, they do13:14
beunoso part of the bottleneck is in the api servers  ;)13:14
topylihi. could someone please tell me again what to do when my new files stay in --waiting-content queue forever?13:19
topylithat is, they're "uploading" look just fine except they never actually sync13:20
=== teknico_away is now known as teknico
duanedesigntopyli: i believe there are some issues server side that they are working out. Once that is fixed it will be easier to tell if your issue is client side or not.13:42

JohnskyHey, anyone here?17:15
duanedesignhello Johnsky17:17
Johnskyhey duane17:17
JohnskyJust set myself up with Ubuntu one... do you know if they're having server troubles?17:17
duanedesignJohnsky: yes sir. Currently the "performance is degraded and working hard on a solution"17:18
JohnskyJust says "Synchronization in progress..." then "disconnected".  Ran    u1sdtool --current-transfers   to check for traffic... 0 up 0 down17:19
JohnskyAh well... it's free right?17:19
JohnskyWhy complain.17:19
JohnskyHope it turns out... it's certainly a good idea in theory form.17:20
duanedesignJohnsky: yes the 2gb plan is free17:25
duanedesignJohnsky: try the command:  u1sdtool --waiting-content17:26
duanedesignactually: u1sdtool --waiting-content | wc -l17:27
duanedesignthat should show you what is waiting to sync17:27
duanedesignand the command : u1sdtool --waiting-metadata | wc -l17:27
JohnskyIt shows the two files I'm waiting on, the --current-transferst still says 0 up 0 down17:28
Johnskythe --waiting-metadata command returns "1"17:28
duanedesignJohnsky: yeah it will need to do the metadata first. Then it will upload the content17:29
JohnskyWhats in the metadata?17:30
=== beuno is now known as beuno-lunch
JohnskyAlright, just reconnected the client. metadata states 0... still showing the two files waiting for transfer, and 0 up, 0 down17:33
Johnskywah, now metadata states 517:35
Johnskylol, I think this is one of those, just walk away and see what happened later thins17:36
Johnsky*things17:36
Johnskyupdate, for the sake of boredom (heh), Metadata 3, Waiting (still two files), Transferring 0 up 0 down17:41
JohnskySo, where in the world are you duane?17:41
JohnskyMe, I'm in Canada.17:42
duanedesignJohnsky: oklahoma, U.S.17:47
duanedesignJohnsky: you like hockey?17:48
Johnskylol, I like watching it... I can skate, I can stick-handle... but I can't do both at the same time.17:48
JohnskyGive me a stick while I'm on skates, and suddenly I look like a total idiot.17:49
duanedesignall my canadian friends have been excited about the Stanley Cup17:51
Johnskyheh, yeah, I root for the Senators... but... they always "Almost" make it.17:56
JohnskyWell, on the topic of ubuntu one, just manually uploaded the files i wanted using the browser. The synchronization process is still just creeping along. I'll figure that out some other time, at least I can store those two files manually.18:00
JohnskyYou root for a team? Or are you not into hockey?18:03
duanedesignJohnsky: no i dont watch much hockey18:06
duanedesignJohnsky: i did watch the winter olympics and enjoyed those games18:07
JohnskyHeh. Yeah, as usual the US walked away with the most medals.18:07
duanedesignJohnsky: canada did beat the u.s. in hockey though18:08
JohnskyYeah. But that's kind of our sport. Just like American Football is yours... you sort of expect to win that.18:09
JohnskySucks what happened to the lugier.18:16
duanedesignfor sure18:17
JohnskyWell, I have to head out. Thanks for those commands... have a good one!18:28

downclimbI understand that Ubuntu One is not really running full-throttle right now, but if I bought music through the store yesterday and it hasn't synced to my computer 18 hours later, can I ever expect it to sync?22:18
beunodownclimb, you can22:20
beunodownclimb, did it appear on the web ui?22:20
downclimbbueno: yes, it's there22:20

ryebeuno, downclimb authentication fails due to server overload22:39
beunofacundobatista, can you help downclimb out?22:39
facundobatistabeuno, actually not, is what rye says22:40
ryedownclimb, i know this is a bad workaround but you can download the files via web ui22:41
* rye is about to commit EOD. 00:41 here, will re-sort couchdb/erlang bug reports again tomorrow22:42
downclimbrye: I know I can, so I'm not worried about losing the files. It's a 100-song album of various artists, with each file in its own subdirectory, so downloading individually didn't sound like much fun!22:42
ryedownclimb, true.22:43
downclimbrye: is the server overload due to the popularity of Ubuntu One?22:43
ryedownclimb, yes, and the work is performed to make it faster. This week the admins that are responsible for the server side are extremely overloaded so that we can not roll out changes as fast as we want22:45
ryeok, need to go offline, will ping ops team about database bottleneck tomorrow22:46
downclimbrye: I understand. There are certainly worse reasons to have problems! Thanks for your help!22:46

ryedownclimb, not much info for now but i will update it once I find out that the software to  manage opened connection more efficiently is in place22:47
ryedownclimb, sorry for such performance but unfortunately there is no client-side workaround that could make it faster22:47
