I had to try to recover 40GB data from a windows system that crashed [14:11] ahh, okay [14:11] i'm not sure if you have to, but you might have to update the usb driver on windows as well [14:11] (the usb controller) [14:12] No, I slaved the drive in and did the recovery in xubuntu [14:13] no, i meant the usb in vbox :P [14:13] oh. [21:23] owen1, I think you can install BootUp-Manager [21:23] owen1, if you install wicd, nm-applet will be removed [21:24] knome: without installing bootup-managerL [21:24] ? [21:25] another question - [21:25] is WEP shared/restricted means 40/128-bit key or 128-bit Passphrase? [21:25] owen1, yes, as long as you install wicd from a repository [21:25] (i use wicd on one laptop and nm-applet on another) [21:26] owen1, i've no idea, but you shouldn't use WEP if possible [21:27] wep is mostly just for look [21:27] Sysi: what should i use? [21:28] wpa [21:28] ok. i see 3 options for wpa [21:28] TKIP, [21:28] AES [21:28] [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] [21:33] knome: i installed wicd, reboot, and i see both nm-applet and wicd. [21:33] owen1, sudo apt-get remove network-manager network-manager-gnome [21:34] ok [21:40] I have installed xubuntu 10.04 on my dell mini 10. best flavor of ubuntu i've tried so far. video is kinda sad though. Can anyone help? [21:42] sad? [21:42] yeah, choppy when i watch vlc or mplayer. choppy even when scrolling in FF [21:43] glxgears shows frame rates dropping to 35-40 when watching video [21:44] flash works, but choppy as well. I can stream radio through pandora, but youtube is pretty bad [21:45] Have you checked whether restricted drivers are available? [21:45] flash is pretty bad, netbooks aren't any high-end machines [21:46] yeah, there is not. there was a fix for ubuntu 9.04 which fixed resolution, but was still slow/choppy. I have not seen any drivers for 10.04 [21:48] for sure they are not high end machines. I thought i'd give ubuntu a shot. had it on an old laptop and loved it. I was able to play videos fine with xp. I really don't want to go back to that though. [21:53] i installed driconf to try to disable vblank but am totally lost on how to do this. === emma_ is now known as emma [23:24] c-c-c-combo breaker !
