pleia2akgraner: taking your fridge/blog post and copying to the wiki so we can update it for WPD winners - somehow the date "2008" got in there rather than 2010 for the date of Jono's cast00:18
pleia2"Jono Bacon announced the winners of the 1st Annual Ubuntu Women World Play Day competition via his UStreamTV cast on Friday, May 28th 2008"00:18
pleia22008 wasn't a great year, don't make me go back!00:19
macoim guessing it was from the number 28 :P00:19
rwwThe wiki also still says "GO SUBMIT YOUR VOTES! for the World Play Day Competition." on the front page, if you're taking edit requests ;P00:19
Pendulumand akgraner's pain medication00:19

pleia2and updated the front page of our wiki00:30
pleia2elky: do we want to upload all submission to a page on the wiki so it's not forever referencing your site?00:37
pleia2(dumped in an images/wpd101/ directory off of ubuntu-women.org itself is fine too)00:38
pleia2er, images/wpd2010 too00:38

valorienude computing, ha02:04
Pendulumapparently he's in quite a few channels02:04
Pendulumand I suspect getting banned one-by-one in them02:05
nigelblol02:05
Pendulumalthough in the other one I'm in he then confused us all by calling me a "berd"02:06
Pendulumwhich as far as I can tell is a region in Armenia02:06
valorieperhaps he meant bard02:06
valorie:-)02:06
PendulumI suspect he can't spell "bird", but I'll take "bard" :-)02:06
valorielol02:07
Pendulumoh, no, urban dictionary has proved me wrong. there are several slang meanings, not all negative and not all inappropriate02:08
PendulumI think I shall assume he was calling me a book nerd02:08
* Pendulum nods02:08
MichelleQPendulum: yes maam02:10

issyl0airurando_, AlanBell: no one hangs out in #ubuntu-youth ;)09:23
issyl0Pendulum: !09:23
issyl0Pendulum: ping me when you're around please.09:23
issyl0:)09:24
AlanBellissyl0: interesting. Do you think that is something that needs fixing?09:34
issyl0AlanBell: yes.09:36
issyl0Definitely.09:36
AlanBellok, is there any background on #ubuntu-youth and what it is for, age ranges, aims etc?09:38
elkyYeah, it definitely does. There's been a few attempts, but it mostly turns in to "oh, you're a teen with your own computer and your parents let you install linux? me too!" followed by twiddling of thumbs, rinse, repeat09:38
elkyAlanBell, it appeared after one of the first ubuntu-women open week sessions. I think the one dinda was scheduled for but I held because she got caught in traffic or somthing.09:39
AlanBellfound it https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuYouth09:39
AlanBellteen seems a bit old to me09:41
ellyI do not see why teens would go there instead of just #ubuntu09:41
elkyThere was a bit of "but im a kid and nobody takes me seriously when i want to help" in the session, so I suggested they start it and the channel quickly appeared. We tried to pull it in to ubuntuforall but that didn't take off either for lack of input09:41
AlanBellelly: yeah, or loco channels09:41
elkyelly, by teens we're talking 13yrolds09:41
elkywho really do get treated like silly little kids sometimes09:42
ellyhmm09:42
ellyokay, I did not have that experience when I was younger and on IRC, but I buy that09:42
rwwto a certain extent, if they didn't do stuff that made it obvious they were silly little kids...09:42
rwwalthough I guess the "don't tell people your age" thing has faded somewhat with the advent of facebook :<09:42
AlanBellwe don't have much of an issue treating people over the age of about 14 as equals in the loco channels09:43
elkywell not just that, mockery when "aww, dad says I have to get off the computer now"09:44
Tm_Twe are talking about this? https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-youth09:49
elkyyes09:49
Tm_Thmm, cannot remember why I did join the team, but I believe there was a good reason09:50
rwwTm_T: Were you being ironic ;P?09:50
Tm_Trww: no, seriously09:50
AlanBellthe forum says it is for under 18 and there is a how old are you thread http://ubuntuforums.org/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=28609:50
hypatiawhen i was 13 i would go on regular IRC servers with MS Comic Chat09:51
hypatiai was a jerk :p09:51
rwwhah09:51
* elky tries to refrain09:51
rwwI was a webforum moderator in a number of places and messed around on h2g2 :\09:51
elkyissyl0, menza is often on IRC, you could poke him or memoserv him and ask to take over as admin I guess.09:53
AlanBellwhen I was 14 the web was invented09:53
elkyjpds is also listed as admin09:54
Tm_Twhen I was 14, soviet russia invented you09:54
Tm_T...ok, that didn't come out as intended09:54
AlanBellTm_T: made me laugh09:54
Tm_TI often say to little kids who asks my age that I'm 6 and a half years old, as I haven't gone thru pre-school09:55
AlanBellso what I would like is a safe space (yes really, one of them) for my kids to talk to other children of geeks like me and you09:56
AlanBellI really think that the teenagers should be in the loco channels and if there are issues with that then they should be dealt with09:56
Tm_Tagreed09:57
rwwit would be nice to have a space for them. comes with the problem that kids don't make good ops :\09:57
AlanBellrww: adult ops09:57
Tm_Trww: kids don't have to be ops themselves09:57
AlanBellwhich you can't really do in a teenager channel09:57
rwwyeah, but that has problems too. kids really like rebelling :(09:57
rwwbut i may be being pessimistic09:57
Tm_Tusually they don't have to rebel if you get them involved on maintaining the order09:58
Tm_Tjust avoid "olds vs us youngs"09:58
rwwtrue09:58
Tm_Tnoone say it would be easy but09:59
AlanBellmaybe ubuntu-youth is doing OK as it is and what I actually want is ubuntu-younglings10:04
rwwmake sure to set +b anakin!*@* if you do that10:05
AlanBellimportant safety tip, thanks!10:06
ellyyou only want to ban him if he's turned to the dark side, though10:06
ellyso anakin!*@dark-side.the-force.net10:07
Tm_Tbut he's not anakin when he's on dark side10:07
AlanBellissyl0: what do you think?10:08
AlanBellerr, not about anakin10:08
rwwprobably best to just +b *!*@dark-side.the-force.net, tbh10:08
rwwthey're all a bunch of trolls :(10:09
issyl0Ah yes.10:20
issyl0Ok10:20
