cwilluare you _sure_ you want to be running a really really early alpha?04:47
xgurucwillu: yes, it going to be on a spare computer......this way if something breaks its not a big deal05:23

BluesKaj'Morning folks13:23
Ian_corneHello13:26
BluesKajhi13:27
* penguin42 plays with KDE+1 in a kvm guest on my lucid desktop, it's quite nice14:12
BluesKajanyone have the public key for maverick - medibuntu repos , or know where to find it , the medibuntu site doesn't have it posted.15:42
Milos_SDHi15:59
Milos_SDcan someone help me to get ureadahead to work with 2.6.35-rc2 kernel15:59
coz_hey guys.. ok maverick installed  with same issues as lucid...external drive...4  fat 32 partitions... highlight all four drive icons...no right click unmount...and it is starting to screw up my hard drive  as does lucid....thought you should know16:50
penguin42coz_: If you individually unmount them does it work?16:52
coz_penguin42,  no it gives an error let me link to that bug report hold on'16:52
penguin42it doesn't particularly surprise me that highlighting a group doesn't work (although I can see why you want it to) - but I would have expected it to unmount ok on shutdown16:53
coz_penguin42    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/58190416:53
ubottuUbuntu bug 581904 in Ubuntu "external drive / multiple partitions no right click unmount" [Undecided,New]16:53
BluesKajcoz_,  how many OSs do use , even xp doesn't use fat 32 , so what are trying to do with them16:53
coz_BluesKaj,  i use both xp and ubuntu both of which deal with these multiple partitions just fine including karmic  however not lucid or maveric16:54
penguin42coz_: Have you tried the drive mount applet on the panel? For a USB key I've got with multiple partitions I'm sure it has an eject that does all of them16:54
coz_BluesKaj,  these are storage drives16:54
BluesKajcoz_,  but why the fat32?16:54
coz_BluesKaj,  it has been on that drive for about a year so I didnt change it16:55
penguin42coz_: I'd split that into two bugs; the behaviour on the single item is a much bigger problem that should work16:55
coz_penguin42,  let me scoot over to the maveric  system and test it hold on16:55
BluesKajok, ntfs works too :)16:55
coz_Blue-Omega,  right it does  but  hey16:55
BluesKajwell fat32 is pretty old fs and it could be unrecognized by lucid and maverick16:57
BluesKajdunno for sure16:57
coz_penguin42,  the unmount applet allows individual partition unmounts with seemingly no problem  however   still  not a good thing  with no right click umount16:57
coz_BluesKaj,  it seems to be recognized but not always16:58
penguin42coz_: Agreed, the right click should let you unmount - but the fact you can't do it with multiple at the same time seems a separate problem16:58
coz_BluesKaj,  i suppose I could redo the drive   eewww16:58
coz_penguin42,  ok it does  yes  although that is available on karmic16:58
penguin42coz_: Oh ok, but still that seems a separate issue16:59
coz_penguin42,  yeah so much a problem that I uninstalled lucid for my main system :)16:59
coz_along with wallpaper issues  and a few other bugs :)16:59
BluesKajwell, you could but I'd be darn careful , there's gotta be a method that works16:59
coz_BluesKaj,  the  mount applet allows one partition at a time to be unmounted seemlingly well17:00
penguin42coz_: On this usb key with multiple partitions right click is giving me safely remove and hitting that is unmounting all the partitions on the device17:00
penguin42coz_: That's on any one of the devices - so I don't need to do multiple selects17:00
coz_penguin42,  when I unmount one of the partitions though I get that error I linked to17:00
penguin42coz_: Any dmesg spew when you try that?17:01
coz_mmm let me scoot over and check hold on17:01
coz_penguin42,  here is the whole dmesg    http://pastebin.com/KwntPz7E17:04
penguin42hmm nothing odd there17:05
coz_penguin42,  yeah  not sure why  but I could go ahead and redo this drive.... painful as it will be... and try ntfs or ext417:06
penguin42coz_: Well that shouldn't be a filesystem error and those errors look more SCSI than filesystem, but then I don't see why it's showing file not found17:07
coz_penguin42,  at this point I cant lose anything on these partitions... all my back up stuff :)  so  at the moment I do most of the work needed with this drive on karmic and xp only17:08
coz_hopefullly  something will change at some point17:08
coz_now I havent tried installing the official nvidia driver.... probably too soon to try... but that is an issue in lucid  also dual monitor wallpaper does not stretch across both monitors  on lucid  I havent tried on maverick yet17:09
coz_I am not expecting anything at this point in maverick :)17:09
BluesKajcoz_,  can you access the partitions from windows , that might be the way to back up your important data, instead  of lucid ...just a thought17:11
BluesKajor maverick17:11
coz_BluesKaj,  yeah in xp access is easy  and I can back up the stuff there then redo the drive in either ntfs or ext4  but  I dont think that is really the issue but I am willing to give it a try :)17:12
coz_oh boy  the hours involved  with this move lol   be back later to report :)17:14
BluesKajpenguin42,  I think he should have taken your comments about the demsg output more seriously ... I hope my comments don't lead to data loss .17:20
penguin42BluesKaj: It's a little odd, it's possible it's a naff USB drive caddy that doesn't support the SCSI flush commands that do the safe eject, but I'd hope we wouldn't get such dumb errors if that was the case17:22
BluesKajthat damn USB fat32 again , what a pita17:23
penguin42I just don't think it should be fat related17:24
BluesKajI sorta suspected USB17:24
anotengcan I upgrade to maveric today and expect a fairly usable system? The computer in question is mainly used for packaging and email...17:30
penguin42anoteng: It's at early stages, lots of stuff breaks and gets fixed17:31
penguin42anoteng: So even if it currently works there is no guarentee it will tomorrow, so use it if you can fix things pretty well yourself, or just test it on a spare machine17:31
anotengI know, I kind of wanted to help testing.... Guess I'll give it a go..17:32
penguin42anoteng: Try it in a vm or something17:32
penguin42or, I think there is a live CD build - that will help test if it works on your hardware17:33
anotengahh.. smart. I'll test that first. Don't like vm's, especially not on slow computers like this one...17:34
BluesKajyeah, ran lucid til I got bored , there weren't anymore problems to fix , so I "upgraded" to maverick :)17:45
penguin42can fix some of mine if you want17:46
BluesKajpenguin42,  i'm trying to figure out why dhclient isn't auto starting ..I'm using /etc/network/interfaces to connect with eth0 . I think NM took the runit.conf file with it when I removed it.17:50
penguin42I haven't figured out the interaction between NM and /etc/network/interfaces17:51
BluesKajyeah, it's abit sketchy17:51
BluesKajactionparsnip seems to be the network/interfaces guru , but he's always so busy helping 4 or 5 others at once I hate to interrupt with a problem that's only an annoyance to me.17:54

TecnaI have a suggestion to make.18:22
TecnaStop trying to release 2 distributions per years18:22
TecnaThat doesn't result in stable releases, and you're running out of letters in the alphabet18:23
BluesKaj-LaptopTecna, that would be too boring :)18:26
TecnaI used to endorse Ubuntu until Lucid came out.  I've spent the last few weeks trying to tweak it to work on my computer, and it was still a brick until yesterday, so I gave up and went back to Debian.18:28
jibadeehaTecna, Lucid release has required the most tweaks for me to get working ... quite a dissapointing release to be honest, but now i've got it all tweaked and working it is nice ... just wish it worked out of the box18:30
BluesKaj-LaptopTecna, interesting ..mine was so stable and working that I got bored so upgraded to maverick for something to do with my computer time.18:30
jibadeehalol @ BluesKaj-Laptop18:31
TecnaWasn't working out of the box originally the primary goal of Ubuntu?18:31
jibadeehathe system tray area on Lucid is screwed as well18:31
jibadeehaduplicate icons, etc18:31
BluesKaj-LaptopTecna, on most setups yes, but one can't expect factory fresh OS when it's free :)18:31
TecnaBluesKaj-Laptop: I would expect it to work on my machine when the previous versions worked, too.  We're not supposed to be following the Windows philosophy of "our software isn't limited to certain computers, your computer is just limited to certain software."18:35
BluesKaj-Laptopwhat software?18:36
TecnaIf Ubuntu's testing phase were longer, like Debian's, we wouldn't have problems like the Nvidia/Plymouth compatibility mess.18:37
TecnaBluesKaj-Laptop: The OS18:38
Ian_corneTecna: but we'd be stuck with old stuff..18:38
TecnaIan_corne: I'd rather have old stuff that works than new stuff that's broken.18:38
DanaGFor me, Plymouth doesn't work even on Raedeon KMS.18:39
Ian_corneuse debian then Tecna18:39
DanaGOr rather, it runs... but refuses to show a splash.18:39
Ian_corneNo use in having 2 copies18:39
BluesKaj-Laptophmm, my desktop has onboard nvidia 6150 and it seems ok, nothing fancy just an entry level desktop I inherited after my daughter upgraded her computer18:40
BluesKaj-LaptopTecna, and it ran well on lucid and still runs ok on maverick18:41
TecnaYou're lucky then.  Try Googling lucid plymouth nvidia18:42
DanaGWhy do they use fugly vga16fb?18:42
DanaGThey should use uvesafb.18:42
DanaGhttp://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/plymouth/2009-June/000127.html18:44
DanaGhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/51682518:44
ubottuUbuntu bug 516825 in plymouth (Ubuntu) "plymouth doesnt show any splash as soon as a console= commandline option is used on boot" [Medium,Fix released]18:44
BluesKaj-LaptopTecna, yeah i had that problem too but I managed to get the nvidia-current driver installed from the tty , did nvidi-xconfig and all was well after that.18:44
BluesKaj-Laptoperr nvidia-xconfig18:44
TecnaAnd I'm further irritated that Ubuntu's trademark agreements treat the use of the logo like it's a privilege to promote the product.18:48
TecnaUbuntu acts like it's GPL software, but still uses trademarked firefox by default and even has it's own trademarks.18:49
* BluesKaj-Laptop shrugs18:50
penguin42Tecna: Trade mark stuff is pretty tricky, but I think I can see some reasons for it being there18:57
h00kBah, I should see if this bug is reported for my EEE 1000 and it's wireless card not being able to connect20:47
yofelif your card is rt2860 then yes20:48

h00kIan_corne: do you have a linky offhand?20:50

ubottuUbuntu bug 588113 in linux (Ubuntu) "[regression] RT2800 wireless does not work" [Undecided,Triaged]20:50
h00k...I don't know why I added the y at the end :|20:50
yofelI'm using mainline 2.6.34 final right now, seems to work fine20:51
yofel(don't have 34-2 installed anymore)20:52
h00kI just tried today's daily build and didn't have it working20:52
yofelh00k: daily uses 2.6.34-5 right now and is broken20:53
yofel2.6.35-1 is stuck in binary new20:54
h00kyofel: yeah, I noticed20:54
yofelhttps://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/2.6.35-1.120:54
Ian_corneIs that available yet?20:54
yofelas I said, it's stuck in the binary new queue and waits for archive admin approval20:55
Ian_corneaha20:55
h00kI'll keep watch on the maverick-changes20:55
Ian_corneI'm not to familiar with the terms :)20:55
yofelshould be there tomorrow when the admins get back to work I guess20:55
Ian_cornenice20:56
