Fudgemrand  ive installed mythtv, its going to be a media machine and hopefully accessible enough for me to set it up. also hopefully will stream tv to other machines in the house eventually00:13
mrandFudge:  The short answer is that yes, you need to install both.  One isn't very good without the other.00:18
mrand(both front and backend)00:18
Fudgedoes mythtv install both or do i need to install all mythtv mythtv-front and back00:19
tgm4883Fudge, use MCC, it helps setup alot00:19
tgm4883mythbuntu-control-centre00:19
Fudgeim not sure if its compatible with orca but ill give it a go00:19
mrandFudge: mythtv package installs both.  As tgm4883 says, mcc is very nice, but I didn't try it with orca, so I don't know.00:21
Fudgethanks mate, im installing it at the least someone could help set it up for me anyway00:22
Fudgeare there driver packages to help detect a capture card? i bought one that had been mentioned a lot of forums but it didnt seem to detect when i had it in this system00:22
tgm4883hmm00:23
mrandFudge: Linux kernal supports most common capture cards.00:23
tgm4883mrand, restricted-extras?00:23
mrandkernel, that is.00:23
mrand*shrug*00:23
tgm4883that might not be drivers00:23
tgm4883but yea, kernel supports lots00:23
tgm4883what card00:23
mrandbe back later00:24
Fudgeill let u know :D00:25
Fudgeoh i cant remember00:26
Fudgeoops00:26
Fudgeill see if i can find the list though00:33
piper69why if i played a video inside mythtv it stutter, but if i played the same move from VLC out side Mythtv it play just fine?02:13
tgm4883piper69, why don't you post some logs :)02:16
tgm4883!logs02:16
ZinnMythTV logs are stored in /var/log/mythtv/   You can use mythbuntu-log-grabber from the Applications menu to automatically post the most relevant logs to our pastebin.02:16

piper69tgm4883: ^^02:25

tgm4883hmm02:28
tgm4883your getting some buffer underrun errors02:28
tgm4883are you running 0.22 or 0.23?02:29
piper690.2202:30
piper69is there 0.23 mythbuntu02:30
piper69i wonder if i can upgrade without losing my current recordings02:31
tgm4883!upgrade02:32
ZinnFor upgrading, see the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes - see also http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading02:32
tgm4883hmm02:32
tgm4883!auto%02:32
ZinnAuto builds contain more recent bug fixes than the normal Ubuntu repository contains.  See http://www.mythbuntu.org/auto-builds for more info.02:32
tgm4883thats what you want02:32
=== 20QAA663X is now known as squinteyez
piper69tgm4883: autobuild is asking me which version i want to update02:44
piper690.22 or 0.2302:44
tgm4883well both have been released. 0.22 would give you more up to date packages than you currently have02:45
tgm48830.23 would to, because it is the next version after what you have02:45
piper69what oo you suggest update my current 022 or upgrade to 0.2302:46
tgm48830.22 would be less impact02:53
piper69tgm4883: doing so right now02:57
piper69tgm4883: ok so how do i know it is setup or i have the latest03:22
tgm4883dpkg -l mythtv-frontend03:23
piper690.22.0+fixes23893-0u03:23
tgm4883yea that probably was the latest version of 0.2203:26
yakovhello anyone from mexico?04:42
Fudgeback here11:06
aahzhi all, i'm using 10.04 but unfortunately have to fight a few problems. in the video browser, i always have 3 columns visible. which is a real pain, because having to deal with long file names, i can't read most of them. any idea how to get rid of one of the comlumns, to and up with only two?17:05
aahzoops, i'm talking of list mode!17:05
mrandaahz: have you tried different themes?  If none of them meet your needs, it's time modify the xml of one that is closest to what you like ;-)17:22
aahzmrand: thanks, for the input. i think i'll try that.17:31
dewman is there preferred default settings that should be used for mytharchive? IE encoding reocrding profiles,etc.17:59
tgm4883dewman, it's assume the defaults are already set18:27
tgm4883that is kinda the definitions of default18:27
AzelphurI have a backend running Mythbuntu 10.04, and I'm trying to get a frontend running Ubuntu 9.10 to connect to it, but it says "Error: MythTV database has newer TV schema (1254) than expected (1244)."21:39
AzelphurAny idea what I can do? I am using the auto builds from mythtv so they should be the same version :/21:39
greglAZelphur: All your frontends and backends need to be running the same version..You will have to upgrade all your machines to the same version..21:54
Azelphurgregl: but they are all running off the mythbuntu repo21:54
Azelphurdoesn't the mythbuntu repo have the newer versions of myth for the older versions of ubuntu?21:54
mrandAzelphur: there is a 9.10 auto-builds for 0.23, but you ahve to select it.21:54
AzelphurI did select it21:55
AzelphurI went to the mythtv autobuilds section, grabbed the mythtv repos deb, installed it, selected 0.2321:56
Azelphurthen installed the frontend21:56
Azelphurand that's what I ended up with :(21:56
gregldo a mythfrontend  --version in a terminal on each machine and you will see they don't match..21:56
Azelphurthey actually do match, that's the weird thing21:56
Azelphuroh wait, no they don't lol21:57
mrandAzelphur: what about the backend version then?  Something isn't matching.21:57
Azelphuryea, the frontend on the 9.10 doesn't match, \o/21:57
Azelphurand yea I can see it says it's 0.22, maybe I did something wrong.21:57
mrandand then after selecting 0.23, did you do an apt-get update and then apt-get upgrade?21:58
mrandMythbuntu-control-center makes it really easy.21:59
Azelphuryea, I did21:59
Azelphurtrying a reboot and then taking another look to see if I can figure out what's going on22:00
Azelphurtrying to get mythtv to run on one of these, hehe http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3832397/2010-06-11%2022.35.06.jpg22:00
Zinn[dl.dropbox.com]22:00
Azelphurhense my reluctance to update to 10.04, it won't boot on them for some reason :(22:00
mrandThis should show you what repo and version you have installed, as well as if there is something newer that needs to be installed.  apt-cache policy mythtv-frontend mythtv-backend22:01
mrandbbl22:01
Azelphurthis is interesting, it says mythtv and a bunch of other things have been "kept back" when I try to apt-get upgrade22:08
qwebirc19714I feel dumb asking this but, I just installed mythbuntu and I can't figure out the root password.  I know the pw I typed in when setting up the system.  It works for synaptic, but not for sudo?  cay anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?22:23
Azelphurthere is no root password on ubuntu22:23
Azelphurthat said, the password for synaptic should be the same as the password for sudo22:23
superm1Azelphur, dist-upgrade22:27
superm1that should let it go22:27
superm1apt-get dist-upgrade that is22:27
Azelphuryea, just got that far, it's failing during the dist-upgrade now22:28
qwebirc19714Azelphur, thanks, must be me being a dum a$$,22:28
Azelphurlol22:29
