palanthasHopefully I have a quick question for anyone that might know... I setting up mythTV backend and I am getting a an error about "Cannot connect to port 6543" Help please?03:05
qwebirc97348I'm having some trouble with aspect ratios. The video is being stretched vertically to fill the screen. I have a 1920x1080 screen. Any ideas?04:16
toorimaanyone here stream netflix in linux?04:22
toorimaqwebirc97348: try pressing W on your keyboard04:24
toorimacycle through zoom and fill modes: 4:3 aspect ratio, 16:9, 4:3 Zoom (like Pan and Scan), 16:9 Zoom, and 16:9 Stretch (eliminates black sidebars in TV signal)04:24
qwebirc97348will I have to set it every time?04:24
qwebirc97348it seems like the aspect could be calculated04:25
qwebirc97348actually, none of the W settings works04:30
qwebirc97348what seems to work is switching to manual zoom mode and using [ or ] to change the zoom04:33
qwebirc97348I was hoping for something more automatic04:33
toorimaqwebirc97348: i think there is something in settings about it04:38
rhpot1991toorima: can't stream netflix in linux04:45
toorimarhpot1991: ok thx04:56
LaMsHi all, I currently have an old computer hooked to my TV and running MythBuntu 9.10. I'm playing some game emulators, stepmania in multiplayer and FoFix. It is also dedicated to video and music. I would like to remove the old computer case from the living room and replace it with something that have a better WAF (wife appeal factor). I though about buying a nettop, would it be powerful enough for FoFix, stepmania and HD video ? Would the Acer Revo 3614:34
LaMs10 do what I want ? I would install Mythbuntu 10.04 on it.14:34
haffeLaMs: As long as it runs nvidia Ion it should be able to do HD video (vdpau)14:57
haffeI don't think that Frets on Fire and Stepmania are very rescource intesive programs but I can't swear by it.14:57
LaMshaffe: Is there known problem that I should know before buying one ? Like, maybe no audio in HDMI or something like that ?15:01
KeithamusLaMs, have you considered building one yourself?15:38
LaMsKeithamus: Well, I though about it. But my idea was that I would not be able to build one as small as a revo or a Zotac for the price they are sold. Was my assumption flawed ?15:41
KeithamusIt wasn't floored - you likely wont be able to get one of a similar spec cheaper than the acer15:42
Keithamusflawed*15:42
KeithamusOne thing I would say15:42
KeithamusThe acer isn't really febe material. It'll work, but I have very similarly specced fes and I know they wouldn't suffice as febes15:43
Keithamusthe Atom processor is pretty shoddy when it comes to things like encoding, commflagging etc.15:43
KeithamusLaMs, my setup is here btw: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/User:Keithamus15:45
Zinn[www.mythtv.org] User:Keithamus - MythTV15:45
LaMsKeithamus: Thanks I'll look into it and maybe I will decide to build it myself. But I have another computer that I can use to do encoding and other more cpu intensive task.16:07
KeithamusCool LaMs, sounds like you would want to set up a frontend + backend environment then, in which case Im sure Acer Revo or similar would be ideal.16:07
LaMsKeithamus: Haaa I see! I never really understood the Backend/Frontend relation since my current HTPC is doing both. Maybe what I need is more XBMC than MythTV since I am not recording TV anymore anyway :-/16:10
KeithamusMythTV is fine for most purposes. The frontend backend relation is for if you have many tvs, or an underpowered tv, while you have a central server feeding these all. For example my setup, my backend has a tuner, while my 2 frontends dont, but they get TV from the backend. If you don't watch TV, and you're not fussed about the low HDD space in the revo, then I'm sure it'll be ideal for you.16:12
LaMsKeithamus: Good ! Thank you for the information16:13
Keithamusnp LaMs, any time16:13
qwebirc48591does anyone know if the release of MythBuntu fixed the resetting of metadata problem? It seems that all of my coverart and fan art reset and I had to go reselect the images18:29
rhpot1991qwebirc48591: happens when using a non storage group?18:37
skaiесть кто живой?18:48
skaianybody alive?18:51
superm1!hi18:57
ZinnSorry I don't know about hi18:57
superm1!ask18:57
ZinnPlease don't ask if anyone is around or if it is alright to ask a question.  Many people check back periodically and may answer your question when they see it.  IRC is not normally an instant fix so check back often for an answer.18:57
rhpot1991!hllo19:21
ZinnSorry I don't know about hllo19:21
rhpot1991!hello19:21
Zinnhello, something we can help you with today?19:21
qwebirc48591rhpot1991 yes i deleted the storage group for videos19:34
rhpot1991qwebirc48591: why so, isos?19:35
tgm4883qwebirc48591, what version of mythbuntu are you using19:36
qwebirc48591rhpot1991 : yes, plus I do not like the way it forces you to go into two levels to get to your videos,19:37
tgm4883qwebirc48591, thats because you have ISO's19:37
tgm4883not a storage group thing19:37
qwebirc48591version 10.419:38
rhpot1991tgm4883: I'm fairly certain the bug he is talkinga bout still exists though19:38
rhpot1991I see it with my non storage group media still19:38
qwebirc48591i remember there being an issue with non storage groups and updates clearing metadata19:42
qwebirc48591i believe there was a fix in a beta version19:42
tgm4883on auto-buids?19:43
qwebirc48591tgm4883: yes i believe that was it.19:43
tgm4883qwebirc48591, you are on auto-builds or the fix is?19:44
qwebirc48591tgm4883: the auto-builds fixed the issue in the last version i used. i have not found a fix for this version19:45
tgm4883qwebirc48591, are you on auto-builds?19:46
tgm4883because it's the same builds19:46
tgm4883literally19:46
qwebirc48591if it is not loaded by default then no. where is the auto build settings?19:49
tgm4883!auto%19:51
ZinnAuto builds contain more recent bug fixes than the normal Ubuntu repository contains.  See http://www.mythbuntu.org/auto-builds for more info.19:51
qwebirc48591tgm4883: am i suppose to use .23 or .24?20:15
mrandqwebirc48591: 0.23 is the stable release.   0.24 technically doesn't exist it... it's currently trunk/alpha.  In a couple or three months, it'll become beta.20:18
mrandit'll become 0.24 beta20:18
rhpot1991I'm 99% sure the issue remains in the auto builds20:25
* tgm4883 still wonders how that isn't clear20:27
rhpot1991tgm4883: I'm thinking we should have that page say what the latest version is20:30
rhpot1991and not say go to mythtv.org to figure it out20:30
Zinn[mythtv.org] MythTV, Open Source DVR20:30
mrandI guess the auto-builds page would be the most logical place.20:32
tgm4883rhpot1991, i'm 99.9% sure thats not going to happen20:34
tgm4883you can try to convince superm1 of that though20:34
rhpot1991tgm4883: why nots20:34
rhpot1991we got accounts, don't tell superm120:34
* rhpot1991 renames the ppa's to cartoon characters20:35
rhpot1991"I'm running Gumby PPA, and this isn't working" will clearly make everything much clearer20:35
tgm4883rhpot1991, you need to upgrade to Pokey PPA, Gumby is depreciated20:40
tgm4883rhpot1991, to get that information in the tool (version info), 1 of 2 things needs to happen20:40
tgm48831) Either it needs to query a website for the current version20:40
tgm48832) the package needs to be updated every release20:41
tgm4883i'm not a fan of 220:41
rhpot1991tgm4883: well, doesn't it need to be upgraded to add the new one anyways?20:41
tgm4883It has to be updated at most once a cycle20:42
tgm4883sometimes it doesn't20:42
tgm4883if you make it for the release, you have to update it initially (mythbuntu cycle start), if mythtv gets updated, if we change versions of mythtv we ship, and also when mythtv gets updated again (updating for past releases)20:44
tgm4883what i'll probably do it just have like 4 extra screens if you choose the large version20:44
superm1haha20:48
mrandI like large versions of screens.  Especially movie screens.20:57
l8rguyhey21:52
l8rguyi dont know or want Mythbuntu but (actually my friend doesnt). how to i remove or cover with Ubuntu this mythbuntu. it doesnt seem to work for his computer either21:53
mrandYou want the ubuntu desktop?21:56
chilukinstall ubuntu-desktop in synaptic21:57
l8rguy... synaptic?21:57
chilukthat will keep all the myth pieces and add the desktop pieces21:58
l8rguyahh21:58
chilukthat's the ubuntu package manager.21:58
l8rguyo. on the ubuntu website21:58
chilukyou could apt-get install ubuntu-desktop from a command line.21:58
mrandAdmin -> synaptic21:58
chilukno not on the website.21:58
mrandor apt-get, as chiluk says21:58
chilukuse synaptic you will find it fun seeing all that is available.21:59
chilukmrand, at least I've now made myself useful.21:59
chilukl8rguy good luck.21:59
l8rguythank you21:59
l8rguythank yo21:59
l8rguyu21:59
mrandheh.21:59
mrandI find synaptic to be annoying... search doesn't work like you think it should, and there is too much _stuff_21:59
chilukif I were you I'd probably download the ubuntu desktop cd and fresh install.21:59
l8rguyeven though i am new to this thanks for the help21:59
chilukmythbuntu has a lot of unique setup behavior for myth purposes.22:00
chilukquick search doesn't.22:00
chiluki've never had a problem with regular search22:00
chilukas in clicking the search icon.22:00
chilukno problem.22:00
chilukhopefully whatever you are experiencing won't taint your view of ubuntu.22:00
chilukor linux for that matter.22:01
chilukunderstand mythbuntu is very stripped down on purpose.22:01
l8rguyi love ubuntu, i, do not have the problem.. my friend got his pesky neewbie fingers into Mythbuntu which seems altogehter confusing for a 1st time user22:01
l8rguyso you need Mythbuntu to run on ubuntu?22:02
chiluknope.22:02
chilukmythbuntu and ubuntu share some packages... and don't share others.22:03
chilukall of the base os stuff is pretty much the same between the two.22:03
chilukbut myth does away with pretty desktop manager and UI in favor of stripped down-ness in order to save resources.22:03
chilukregular ubuntu is meant to be used as a desktop22:04
chiluklike windows22:04
l8rguynice22:04
chilukmythbuntu is meant to be a purpose built OS made for being a media center.22:04
chilukyou can add the pretty UI pieces.22:04
l8rguyim writing up the spill about what happend friends comp if you guys will hear it.. i writing it regardless22:04
l8rguyso. .. the spill >> he installed Mythbuntu form the website.. after reboot the GNome thingy which is the choose your OS it has the windows os and Mythbuntu as the options22:05
chilukthat's actually grub, but ok.22:05
l8rguythe probelm is that it doesnt have the second prompt with mythbuntu version whatever22:06
l8rguyall it has is this circular reasoning back to windows 7 or vista thingy22:06
chilukso when grub comes up, windows is the only option?22:07
l8rguyno it has mythbuntu underneith but the next promp which lets you choose what version or network only thing is missing and in its place is windows vista and windows 722:08
chilukis he booting off of a cd?22:09
chilukand by next prompt you mean after selecting mythbuntu.22:09
chilukright?22:09
l8rguyyes22:09
l8rguyyes22:09
l8rguyo.. the booting of cd. no22:09
l8rguyhe used the download manager22:10
chilukalright so if you want to run both windows and full Ubuntu it doesn't matter what its' doing right now.22:10
chilukI'd go ahead and download the Ubuntu-desktop iso from ubuntu.com22:10
Zinn[ubuntu.com] Ubuntu homepage | Ubuntu22:10
chilukor the torrent22:10
chiluk*(isn't that cool)22:10
chilukand install Ubuntu over the mythbuntu installation.22:11
chilukthat should go through and re-install your bootloader which should hopefully clear things up.22:11
l8rguy.. quiet on this end. so he should create an iso, mount it to disk, and install ubuntu over the mythbuntu installation22:12
chilukcreate the iso.... burn it to disk... (mounting is something completely different), and then install....22:14
l8rguyright.. right22:14
chilukplease don't take my being pedantic for being an ass.... I just want to make sure we understand each other.22:14
Zinnchiluk: Please watch your language.22:14
chilukhaa..22:15
chilukgood luck22:15
l8rguyno problem22:15
chilukwhen installing the full ubuntu you may want to try the #ubuntu channel.  You'll probably get more help from smarter people than I.22:16
l8rguysmarter maybe, but more pedantic, never22:17
l8rguyit has been very helpful22:17
l8rguythanks for putting up with me.. im sure my friend will be happy that i some new majic to revitalize his comp22:18
chilukoh man... and now he leaves.22:21
qwebirc48591I am not able to reboot my mythtv from the GUI or SSH and have it reboot to MythTv,  I have to actually shutdown the box and repower it. Any ideas?22:49
