newz2000Hi, I'm setting up mythbuntu and having probs... when I go to watch TV it says "please wait" and then after a moment goes back to the menu03:11
newz2000I'm not a linux newbie so I'm comfortable digging around, but googling isn't leading me anywhere03:12
newz2000I have a pvr150 and I'm using schedule direct to get my listings03:12
newz2000(and populating the database seems to work, I can look at the upcoming schedule)03:12
newz2000Any tips on where I can look to troubleshoot?03:13
tgm4883!logs | newz200003:16
Zinnnewz2000: MythTV logs are stored in /var/log/mythtv/   You can use mythbuntu-log-grabber from the Applications menu to automatically post the most relevant logs to our pastebin.03:16
rhpot1991newz2000: sounds like your card isn't setup correctly or you have permission problems03:16
rhpot1991!blank% | newz200003:16
Zinnnewz2000: If you try to watch tv and are greeted with a blank screen and a return to the menu then please check the permissions on your recording directory.  It should be owned by mythtv:mythtv, have permissions of 775, and not be inside your home directory03:16
* newz2000 looks03:17
newz2000/var/lib/mythtv is owned root.root but everything inside is mythtv.mythtv, does that seem right?03:20
tgm4883newz2000, what do the logs say?03:24
newz2000found an error03:25
newz2000Error: unknown type, recording width was 003:25
newz2000preceeding that was some messages about path names, but they looked informational03:26
tgm4883newz2000, I can't help you if you don't pastebin the whole log file03:26
* tgm4883 goes back to arguing with devs03:27
newz2000ok, I'm happy to do that, thanks and just a min03:27
newz2000http://pastebin.com/Nn3hJj3a03:28
newz2000that is backend and frontend from just before I started to try and watch TV03:28
newz2000I can send you the whole log next if you need it03:29
tgm4883newz2000, you have a PVR-150?03:30
newz2000yes03:30
tgm4883newz2000, you didn't set it up as a mpeg2 encoder card03:31
newz2000oh03:31
newz2000tgm4883: is that through backend setup?03:32
tgm4883yep03:32
newz2000ivtv mpeg-2 encoder card?03:34
tgm4883I believe so03:34
* newz2000 tests03:34
tgm4883my pvr-150 is in a box for about a year03:34
newz2000it works!03:34
tgm4883newz2000, I know03:34
tgm4883newz2000, note, it could have worked 12 minutes earlier if you had posted the logs when I asked :)03:35
tgm4883thats how important the logs are03:35
newz2000Something funny is happening03:36
newz2000or not happening maybe03:36
newz2000I saw a tv picture for a moment, then the guide, now things feel frozen or slow03:36
newz2000grrr03:37
* newz2000 looks at the logs some more03:37
newz2000ok, looks like it's working now03:40
newz2000ok, I'm down to two final problems03:46
newz2000the picture is very jittery03:46
newz2000!jitter%03:46
ZinnSorry I don't know about jitter%03:46
newz2000not the menus, only while watching tv03:47
newz2000and no sound03:47
newz2000!sound%03:47
Zinnhttp://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Sound_Troubleshooting03:47
newz2000yeah, sound works03:49
newz2000So all of my channels seem to work, but they're kind of jittery03:56
newz2000I'm watching the world cup and there's a constant buzzing for some reason03:57
newz2000espn seems to be the only channel with that problem03:57
newz2000oh, that may be the audience making that sound03:58
newz2000if I just want my 4:3 shows to show full screen on a 16:9 set, what setting should I use?04:27
newz2000(yes, I've read http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio but it's no help, just a big explanation of the problem)04:28

Infl8ableSoulm8So, just installed 64-bit mythbuntu on a sun fire x2100 server that I installed a Hauppauge HVR-1250 pci-e tuner card in, and the card doesn't appear to be recognized.  lspci shows the card with the proper details, which is probably not any amazing feat, as a conexant card with the correct hauppauge model number.04:41
Infl8ableSoulm8I'm currently running a synaptic update to see if that fixes anything, but is thre anything that anyone knows about this particular card that could shorten my google-time?04:42
seventoesanyone know if its possible to use a headphone-jack style IR blaster with mythtv?05:10
newz2000next step is to see if I can talk to the digital cable box over firewire05:16
newz2000!firewire%05:30

anvI have fresh 64-bit Mythbuntu install, installation went quite  fine, but most of DVDs wont play even with proprietary driver, I  tried to use mplayer instead of internal but maybe it were typed  wrongly on those lines , I'm not sure should it be mplayer or  /usr/bin/mplayer or something else07:17
anv1.) how to get DVD work 2.) how to set mplayer as default player ?07:19
Shadow__X!dvd07:29
ZinnSorry I don't know about dvd07:29
Shadow__Xanv: in the mythbuntu control center i think you have to enable dvd play back07:30
Shadow__Xit has something to do with encryption keys and all that07:30
anvit plays some of them but most of DVDs wont play07:30
anvso it must be enabled07:31
Shadow__Xgo in mcc and check07:31
Shadow__Xselect w32 codecs and libdvdcss207:31
anvI have installed all possible codecs from synaptic07:31
anvenabled medibuntu also07:32
Shadow__Xjust humor me07:32
anvI tried several DVD drives same with all of them, but when I play those DVD discs which wont work under mythbuntu in my desktop they work07:33
anv!?!07:33
ZinnSorry I don't know about ?!07:33
anvhow to set mplayer instead of Internal?07:34
Shadow__Xin setup07:34
anvbut I tried "mplayer" and "/usr/bin/mplayer" ..nothing07:35
anvI have installed mplayer from synaptic07:36
Shadow__Xlocate mplayer07:40
anvodd http://pastebin.com/MQMajE7Y07:42
anvit didn't show the /usr/bin entry even it exists07:44
Shadow__Xsorry try which mplayer07:50
anv/usr/bin/mplayer07:55
anvwhen it asks the name of player in setup should I put it as above ?07:56
anvI think this was correct answer: "mplayer dvd:// -dvd-device %d" it plays films now, but in extern window though "f" key makes it fullscreen... I thinkmplayer should be the internal player insteadit seems to be broken08:11

curtleeCould someone help me make a udev rule to stop my pcHDTV5500 from changing between /dev/dsp1 and /dev/dsp2 on every reboot?15:25
qwebirc5169Greetings. I installed MythBuntu on a Zotac ION system recently and am enjoying it, but am having an issue with my remote. I believe that I "just" need to insert a new VENDOR id (x0105a) into the lirc_mceusb.c file, but am having no success getting the kernel updated. Anyone able to walk me through this?19:27
azlonis there an known issue with the miro plugin? it keeps giving me an error every time i open the mythbuntu coltrol center19:35
bmidgley2is there an ubuntu->mythbuntu transition guide somewhere?21:02
rhpot1991bmidgley2: sudo apt-get install mythbuntu-desktop ?  What are you trying to do?21:04
bmidgley2go from ubuntu 10.04 to mythbuntu 10.04 without too much rebuilding of my "working" myth setup21:04
bmidgley2plain ubuntu myth packages are too buggy21:05
rhpot1991installing mythbuntu-desktop should handle most of it21:05
bmidgley2it will add repos I guess?21:06
rhpot1991what repos?  auto builds?21:06
rhpot1991the mythbuntu and ubuntu mythtv packages are exactly the same21:07
bmidgley2weird, mythbuntu folks say the inserting-dvd-crashes-myth is fixed21:08
bmidgley2but I don't see that21:08
bmidgley2I wonder if they were using auto build repos21:08
rhpot1991link to the bug?21:08

Zinn[bugs.launchpad.net] Bug #549593 in Mythbuntu: “mythfrontend.real crashed with SIGSEGV in QX11PixmapData::x11ConvertToDefaultDepth()”21:10
qwebirc5169.21:18
bmidgley2I will try the autobuilds21:20
bmidgley2any reason I should be insterested in .24?21:21
rhpot1991bbigras: it says right in the comments that its fixed in auto builds, you can test it on there21:21
Infl8ableSoulm8Has anyone tried recently to build the v4l-dvb drivers for the current ubuntu kernel package?21:21
rhpot1991bmidgley2: no, thats the latest mythtv development, so most likely you are very uninterested in it21:21
bmidgley2definitely21:22
serichi, I am unable to connect to my mythtv backend from a remote machine, I think I set everything correct but still fail to connect to the db(?) - is there any simple trick I am missing (remote frontend is on OS X)22:03
sericif I try to manualy connect to the remote DB, I get the following:22:05
sericseric@jupiter:~$ mysql5 -u mythtv -p -h 10.0.0.4622:05
sericEnter password:22:05
sericERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on '10.0.0.46' (61)22:05
