zusive got a question for the video people,...im trying to copy an .avi from a hard drive thats failing i get an "error splicing file:input/output error"   when i copies, i can watch the movie/tv show (has happened with a few of them) but if i forward or rewind the film looks like water swishing on a broken display. is there a fix? one file i was able to keep trying till it copied fine, but it dont work  all the time...05:16
tucemiuxbut how is that related to video?  That is an ubuntu related question, you should ask in #ubuntu05:25

Jef91does Ubuntu Studio include a real time kernel by default?16:53
holsteinJef91: hello17:08
holsteinit doesnt right now17:08
holsteinBUT17:08
holsteinyou should try the generic one17:09
holsteinive heard good things about the generic one working great17:09
holsteinand sudo apt-get install linux-rt gets you the RT kernel17:09
holstein!grub217:09
ubottuGRUB2 is the default Ubuntu boot manager since Karmic. For more information and troubleshooting on GRUB2 please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub217:09
Jef91thanks17:10
holstein^^ if you need to figure out how to select the RT kernel by default at boot :)17:10
edakiriWhat is a convenient tool for setting pixels/meter in PNGs?17:17
Jef91what is difference between the real time vs low latency kernel for audio work?17:20
holsteinJef91: priority pretty much17:48
holsteinalot of what we need about the RT kernel is making its way into the generic one though17:49
holsteinedakiri: im just barely capable in GIMP ;)17:49
holsteinJef91: have you tried the generic kernel ?17:52
holsteinand found it to be insufficient?17:52
holsteinwe need low latency for some audio tasks17:53
holsteinlike live effects processing17:54
holsteinreal-time17:54
holsteinusing a project like http://rakarrack.sourceforge.net/17:54
holsteinif it takes a noticable amount of time for your hardware to process the audio data17:54
holsteinand spit it back out17:54
holsteinthere will be lag17:55
holsteingetting lower latency helps the effected sound happen when you strum the guitar for example17:55
holsteinDOAH17:55
edakiriany recommendations of WWW sites for graphics manipulation that might tell how to set pixels/meter in PNGs?19:29
databridgehey guys i need help with ubuntu studio21:11
tucemiuxdatabridge, whats the question21:12
databridgei have a sound card from creative audigy 2 zs which was working fine on ubuntu studio 8.10, i was using a mic through line-in and real time effects with jack - then suddenly it stops working and i don`t figured out why, so i decided to install the latest version but it also dont works there, i can record on line in but cannot playback or using effects on it21:14
databridgewith the onboard sound i have sound but also no effects21:14
holsteindatabridge: can you test the hardware?21:15
holsteinmaybe an ubuntu 8.04 live CD21:16
holsteinand/or another distro's live CD21:16
databridgehardware is ok21:16
databridgeit must be some kind of software problem21:16
databridgewith windows everything is fine21:16
holsteinOH21:16
holsteinOK, i agree21:16
holsteinhmmm21:17
holsteinyour still on 8.10?21:17
holstein...i see21:17
databridgeno 10.0421:17
holsteinyou upgraded to lucid21:17
databridgei installed new21:17
holsteini think it would be worth looking at an 8.04 or 9.10 live CD21:18
holsteinand noting what kernel is supporting the card21:18
holsteinyou can run uname -a in the terminal21:18
holsteinthen, i would check21:19
holsteinlspci21:19
holsteinand see if the card shows up21:19
databridgehm21:19
holsteinALSO21:19
holsteinaplay -l21:19
holsteinand21:19
holsteinarecord -l21:19
databridgewhen i google it then i see a lot of people having problem with the audigy zs21:19
holsteinsupport could have been pulled from the kernel for some reason21:20
databridgeok so i test a live cd i have different versions here21:20
holsteinif it were me, i would probably bite the bullet, and get a more pro card21:20
holsteinan maudio delta 1010lt or something21:21
databridgei`m not so pro :)21:21
holsteinbut, i bet you can figure it out21:21
holsteini think its going to be in the kernel21:21
databridgethe audigy zs is not bad i got it for 20€21:21
holsteinbut, im not sure21:21
holsteinshould be 2 ;)21:21
holsteinhehe21:21
holsteini was looking with someone21:22
holsteinand we were finding used maudio PCI cards21:22
holsteinthe 4 channel one21:22
holsteinfor 30US21:22
holsteinpretty similar price, but way more functionality21:23
databridgei hope i get my card working21:23
holsteini think you can21:24
databridgei just want to make musik and not go to deep into the system :D21:25
holsteini hear you21:25
holsteincouuld be worse though21:25
holsteinyou could be trying to find a windows driver21:26
holsteinat least you know the device worked with some kernel21:26
holsteinthats what i think happened21:26
databridgei move on see ya21:26
databridgethank you for help21:26
