=== ubott2 is now known as ubottu [03:19] hello [03:48] good evening [04:52] in system>user & group> when adding myself to the audio group the pop up window where i tic my name, the field under group name: is blank do i name is audio or leave it blank (only tic my name and hit ok?) [04:58] nvm im sorted. [05:00] click on "Manage Groups" [05:01] yeah, i figured it out, thanks [05:07] no problem [05:16] ive got a question for the video people,...im trying to copy an .avi from a hard drive thats failing i get an "error splicing file:input/output error" when i copies, i can watch the movie/tv show (has happened with a few of them) but if i forward or rewind the film looks like water swishing on a broken display. is there a fix? one file i was able to keep trying till it copied fine, but it dont work all the time... [05:25] but how is that related to video? That is an ubuntu related question, you should ask in #ubuntu [05:38] ill try there. [07:34] hello all [07:35] anyone willing to help this amateur? [07:35] hey Peaches491 [07:35] whats up? [07:42] i'm looking to install the gdm from the hardy release in my new 10.04 install [07:42] any ideas? [07:45] Peaches491: you checked gnome look? [07:45] i looked, but no cigar [07:46] is there a way i can pull it from the iso? [07:46] probably [07:46] you been to #ubuntu-beginners ?? [07:47] i know its loud in #ubuntu [07:47] * jussi doenst thhink you can without lots of grief [07:47] hmmm [07:47] we got plymouth since then right? [07:47] does that matter? [07:49] its a whole new thing.... [07:49] the whole boot sequencing changed iirc [07:49] yeah... [07:49] Peaches491: you might have to embrace the new :) [07:50] oh well [07:50] thanks for trying guys [07:50] its almost 3 AM [07:50] so im gonna hit the sack [07:50] thanks again! im sure i'll be back [07:50] later [07:50] :) [10:44] I've got midi_kbd+jack+qsynth+soundfont setup for playing, but I'm looking for a way to transpose the midi somewhere alound the route, is there something able to do this easily (I've looked but not found anything).. [11:13] arand: qmidiroute [11:18] AutoStatic: Thanks! Exactly what I was after. [11:19] arand: you're welcome :) [13:01] hi [13:05] Hello [13:06] Hi Auto! How's life [13:09] is someone testing maverick? [13:10] anyone* [13:10] pablo100: life's good! [13:10] and you? [13:10] I'm not such a testing kind of person [13:11] :) I am pablo from linuxmusicians, I am glad you are fine [13:11] so no, I'm not testing Maverick [13:11] Ah, and Pablo_F [13:11] right? [13:11] yes [13:13] :) [16:53] does Ubuntu Studio include a real time kernel by default? [17:08] Jef91: hello [17:08] it doesnt right now [17:08] BUT [17:09] you should try the generic one [17:09] ive heard good things about the generic one working great [17:09] and sudo apt-get install linux-rt gets you the RT kernel [17:09] !grub2 [17:09] GRUB2 is the default Ubuntu boot manager since Karmic. For more information and troubleshooting on GRUB2 please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2 [17:10] thanks [17:10] ^^ if you need to figure out how to select the RT kernel by default at boot :) [17:17] What is a convenient tool for setting pixels/meter in PNGs? [17:20] what is difference between the real time vs low latency kernel for audio work? [17:48] Jef91: priority pretty much [17:49] alot of what we need about the RT kernel is making its way into the generic one though [17:49] edakiri: im just barely capable in GIMP ;) [17:52] Jef91: have you tried the generic kernel ? [17:52] and found it to be insufficient? [17:53] we need low latency for some audio tasks [17:54] like live effects processing [17:54] real-time [17:54] using a project like http://rakarrack.sourceforge.net/ [17:54] if it takes a noticable amount of time for your hardware to process the audio data [17:54] and spit it back out [17:55] there will be lag [17:55] getting lower latency helps the effected sound happen when you strum the guitar for example [17:55] DOAH [19:29] any recommendations of WWW sites for graphics manipulation that might tell how to set pixels/meter in PNGs? [21:11] hey guys i need help with ubuntu studio [21:12] databridge, whats the question [21:14] i have a sound card from creative audigy 2 zs which was working fine on ubuntu studio 8.10, i was using a mic through line-in and real time effects with jack - then suddenly it stops working and i don`t figured out why, so i decided to install the latest version but it also dont works there, i can record on line in but cannot playback or using effects on it [21:14] with the onboard sound i have sound but also no effects [21:15] databridge: can you test the hardware? [21:16] maybe an ubuntu 8.04 live CD [21:16] and/or another distro's live CD [21:16] hardware is ok [21:16] it must be some kind of software problem [21:16] with windows everything is fine [21:16] OH [21:16] OK, i agree [21:17] hmmm [21:17] your still on 8.10? [21:17] ...i see [21:17] no 10.04 [21:17] you upgraded to lucid [21:17] i installed new [21:18] i think it would be worth looking at an 8.04 or 9.10 live CD [21:18] and noting what kernel is supporting the card [21:18] you can run uname -a in the terminal [21:19] then, i would check [21:19] lspci [21:19] and see if the card shows up [21:19] hm [21:19] ALSO [21:19] aplay -l [21:19] and [21:19] arecord -l [21:19] when i google it then i see a lot of people having problem with the audigy zs [21:20] support could have been pulled from the kernel for some reason [21:20] ok so i test a live cd i have different versions here [21:20] if it were me, i would probably bite the bullet, and get a more pro card [21:21] an maudio delta 1010lt or something [21:21] i`m not so pro :) [21:21] but, i bet you can figure it out [21:21] i think its going to be in the kernel [21:21] the audigy zs is not bad i got it for 20€ [21:21] but, im not sure [21:21] should be 2 ;) [21:21] hehe [21:22] i was looking with someone [21:22] and we were finding used maudio PCI cards [21:22] the 4 channel one [21:22] for 30US [21:23] pretty similar price, but way more functionality [21:23] i hope i get my card working [21:24] i think you can [21:25] i just want to make musik and not go to deep into the system :D [21:25] i hear you [21:25] couuld be worse though [21:26] you could be trying to find a windows driver [21:26] at least you know the device worked with some kernel [21:26] thats what i think happened [21:26] i move on see ya [21:26] thank you for help
