h00kAre there known...like...severe performance issues with btrfs on a SSD?00:26
h00kI installed the daily alternate with SSD on my netbook and it took over 12 hours. Also, upgrades are taking a ridiculously long time today00:28
patdk-lapwhat ssd?00:28
h00kbefore, when I ran ext4, it was /way/ faster.00:28
patdk-laprandom write is critical for btrfs00:28
patdk-lapand most ssd's are not optimized for that00:28
patdk-lapunless your buying enterprise grade00:29
DaekdroomI believe btrfs has a specific mount option for SSDs, doesn't it?00:29
patdk-lapit does00:29
h00kIt's an ASUS-phison SSD00:29
h00kI bet I'm not using that, I didn't specifically set it when installing00:29
patdk-lapcheck fstab00:29
h00kUUID=UUID-IS-HERE-I-DONT-FEEL-LIKE-TYPING-IT /home btrfs defaults 0 200:30
h00ksame for /, except it's 0 1 for the last two.00:31
h00k/boot is ext2 defaults 0 2, but that isn't important00:31
h00koh look, a convenient wiki: https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/FAQ#Is_Btrfs_optimized_for_SSD.3F00:32
h00k-o ssd. where would that go in the fstab line?00:33
h00kUUID / btrfs -o ssd 0 1 //am I doin' it right?00:33
h00kah, sans the -o, I bet.00:34
h00kpatdk-lap: ^00:36
patdk-lapdefaults,ssd00:36
h00kah00:37
h00kwe'll give this a shot00:37
patdk-laphow does your btrfs mount? from grub?00:38
patdk-lapis there a ro option on the kernel line in /boot/grub/grub.cfg?00:38
h00kno, I don't think grub will. I made a 200mb /boot, ext200:38
patdk-lapwell, I am using ext4 /boot00:39
h00kseparate /boot, /, and /home, / and /home are btrfs00:39
patdk-lapand btrfs root00:39
patdk-lapbut the default is to mount root ro at first00:39
patdk-lapand that freaks my system out00:39
h00kI'd test it, but I'm waiting for my upgrades00:40

mandarayup there is still a chance. Don't know how much time it takes to package it.08:50
dupondjethe best chance is to get it into debian08:55
dupondjeand then sync it :)08:55
mandarais there a command in apt to get maintainers email .Like: apt-cache show maintainers-email eclipse :)09:06
ior3kanyone know how to force mysql to start on boot? Since I installed postgres, I have to start mysql manually09:11
ior3kmandara: does "aptitude show eclipse | grep Maintainer" do what you need?09:12
dupondjemandara: I recommend you open a bugreport in debian, asking to package 3.6.009:14

jan-pieterI am currently faced with complete failure of ubuntu(10.10) at completely random moments. Most of the time every form of input completely stalls. I can't move the mouse, nothing on the keyboard work and pressing the power button has no effect what so ever. I can only reset my pc. Every now and then kernel panic occurs (15% of the times) and num-lock and caps-lock start flashing. If I'm...15:26
jan-pieter...really lucky I can restart the X-server but that only postpones the lock-up for about 15-30 min. Where could I find info about this in the logs?15:26
gnomefreakjan-pieter: you are best to file a bug on that issue15:49
gnomefreakjan-pieter: file the bug using the command   ubuntu-bug linux   and that should give the kernel devs the info they need15:51
gnomefreakto at least start on the bug15:51
jan-pieterOK. I'll do that15:51
jan-pieterhmm the maximum is once a day but it occurs more frequently than that maybe it would be an idea to allow that?15:54

om26erkroson, if you mean gnome shell i.e. the new interface, then, no. but also maverick is not expected to update all apps to 3.0 too.16:13
krosonom26er: ok tks16:20

DarkNemesisi am sick and tired of having to set up all the same accounts on different machines i have many yahoo, jabber and msn accounts etc, and i forget the passwords etc so end up having to change them and its really not fair cus when i have to change the passwords on the lappy the next time i boot the desktop the chat accounts wont load as i dont have the right passwords so have to change them again.... so, i have a request22:28
DarkNemesisplease can you intergrate a way of syncing account details with ubuntu one22:28
DarkNemesisso that  you sign into ubuntu single sign on and then sync your data with ubuntu one - this would save having to change the passwords again22:29
DarkNemesiswhat do people think?22:29
DrHalanwould be awesome22:32
DrHalanDarkNemesis: alternatively you can use jabber transports22:32
DarkNemesisDrHalan, ma and pa cant do that easy22:34
charlie-tcaIf ma and pa are changing passwords that often, why not put the same password on all the accounts for them?22:35
DanaGDarkNemesis: you could just symlink .purple (or such) into the UbuntuOne dir (or Dropbox).22:45
DanaGSay, why the heck does Maverick's Xorg treat my touchpad's middle button as a left button?22:46
DarkNemesisDanaG, does mavrick have a new version of gnome?22:46
