tdnI use Ubuntun 10.04 LTS with encrypted home dirs. I had to do some maintenance including swapping of two users' UIDs and GIDs. So I did a deluser on the users and a delgroup on the groups. Then I created the users and groups again with the corrects UIDs/GIDs. Then I chowned all the users' files under /home/$USER and /home/.ecryptfs/$USER. Then I reset password with passwd $USER. But now the users cannot log in, thus cannot decrypt their files.09:30

jbthomsonHi, looking for a bit of help with a dedicated remote server running Ubuntu 10.04. Have a second hard drive installed (yesterday) for backups, extra storage, etc, and I'm looking to list the files contained on the drive. How do I do it?21:30
holsteini would just mount it somewhere and look at it21:33
holsteindid you add it to /etc/fstab ?21:34
jbthomsonok, the mount command is something I have been trying and I don't really understand it. Could you talk me through it?21:34
jbthomsonand no, it was installed by the hosting company, so I'm not sure what changes they make viafstab21:35
holsteinOH21:35
holsteini would look into that21:35
holsteinwhat exactly you need to do21:35
holsteinbased on the hosting comapies set-up21:35
holsteinbacially21:35
holsteinbasically*21:35
holsteinyou just mount the drive to a dir21:35
holsteini have one on my audio recording machine21:36
jbthomsona dir on the main drive?21:36
holsteina seperate HD that i track to21:36
holsteinand i just created a dir21:36
holstein/home/name/audio21:36
holsteinor something like that21:36
holsteinand i use fstabe to have the HD mounted to that dir at boot21:37
holsteinbut you dont have to do it that way21:37
jbthomsonok...not really sure I understand how that works. I create a directory on hda1 and that becomes the mount point for sda1, then I edit fstab to auto mount sda1 to that directory at boot?21:38
holsteinbasically21:39
jbthomsonok21:39
holsteinyou can mount to any dir21:39
holsteinif you add to fstab21:39
holsteinit will just happen21:39
holsteinand when you go to that dir21:39
holsteinas far as you know, its a local dir21:39
holsteinlocal, like on your main HD21:40
jbthomsonok that sounds pretty cool, and just what I am looking for.21:40
holsteinyou can mount network shares like that too though AFAIK21:40
jbthomsonI think I understand what I need to do, I will try and maybe come back if I get stuck. Thanks for the help and clarification holstein.21:41

vu1kanI'm having a bit of trouble getting a ppa to resolve properly.  I added it using <sudo add-apt-repository ppa:loell/ppa>, but the keyserver times out. Now that did add the line to my software sources, but when i <apt-get update>, it gives 404 Not Found. is this a serverside issue, or something i'm doing?22:11
vu1kan(btw, the rest of my repos resolve correctly, just not the ppa)22:14
phillwvu1kan: the ubuntu key server gets over loaded, you can re-add the key by following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/DocumentationHelp#Key%20Servers22:14
vu1kanphillw: thx, that got the key to resolve, now i need to get the ppa itself to resolve...maybe i should just download the .deb manually?22:19
phillwvu1kan: if you remove the ppa from your sources list, then re-add it, it should be all happy and smiling as it now has the key.22:22
vu1kanphillw: woot! thx, worked like a charm, +2 karma for phil!22:26
* phillw -1 for not telling you to delete and re-add the ppa :p22:28

robot_PLEAASE HELP =D, this might be stupid, but somehow I got my mouse into "drag" mode (perhaps this mode has a different name?), when i click on windows I cannot select text or click on buttons, I can only drag the entire window, when I hold the "ctrl" button it makes the mouse behave normally... how do I get out of this mode (restarting ubuntu does not help)22:52
pedro3005robot_, is the ALT button pressed?22:53
robot_nothing is pressed...22:53
robot_its just stuck in this mode for whatever reason22:54
robot_though holding down alt, seems to restore the normal mouse mode too22:55
pedro3005weird22:55
robot_perhaps something in the setting it causing either alt or ctrl to be locked?22:56
robot_is there something I can do to reset the keyboard?22:56
geirharobot_: Could be the keyboard's just faulty23:07
robot_it worked until I pressed some keys on the keyboard, on the left side23:08
robot_I was trying to copy something, and pressed shift+ctrl at the sametime I think23:08
robot_I think some combination of keys forced the the mouse to get stuck in the mode23:08
robot_maybe it forced the alt or ctrl key to get locked?23:09
robot_=( I dont want to reinstall ubuntu just to fix this23:11
robot_is this some kind of reset of all settings I can force ubuntu to go under?23:11
geirharobot_: If possible, see if you can reproduce it with a different keyboard.23:31
robot_I have another ubuntu installation, but I dont want to risk getting that one stuck in the same mode23:34
robot_I guess I'll try restart the computer23:37
robot_again23:37
robot_geirha, when I go into guest mode the problem disappears23:40
robot_perhaps I can reset my user setting to default?23:40
