[06:54] you can install the netbook edition on a desktop though (afaik) [06:55] Would it be around the same lines as installing KDE or XFCE? I've done both before successfully. [06:55] WAIT! Have a second hard drive installed (yesterday) for backups, extra storage, etc, and I'm looking to list the files contained on the drive. How do I do it? [21:33] i would just mount it somewhere and look at it [21:34] did you add it to /etc/fstab ? [21:34] ok, the mount command is something I have been trying and I don't really understand it. Could you talk me through it? [21:35] and no, it was installed by the hosting company, so I'm not sure what changes they make viafstab [21:35] OH [21:35] i would look into that [21:35] what exactly you need to do [21:35] based on the hosting comapies set-up [21:35] bacially [21:35] basically* [21:35] you just mount the drive to a dir [21:36] i have one on my audio recording machine [21:36] a dir on the main drive? [21:36] a seperate HD that i track to [21:36] and i just created a dir [21:36] /home/name/audio [21:36] or something like that [21:37] and i use fstabe to have the HD mounted to that dir at boot [21:37] but you dont have to do it that way [21:38] ok...not really sure I understand how that works. I create a directory on hda1 and that becomes the mount point for sda1, then I edit fstab to auto mount sda1 to that directory at boot? [21:39] basically [21:39] ok [21:39] you can mount to any dir [21:39] if you add to fstab [21:39] it will just happen [21:39] and when you go to that dir [21:39] as far as you know, its a local dir [21:40] local, like on your main HD [21:40] ok that sounds pretty cool, and just what I am looking for. [21:40] you can mount network shares like that too though AFAIK [21:41] I think I understand what I need to do, I will try and maybe come back if I get stuck. Thanks for the help and clarification holstein. [21:41] sure === compiledkernel is now known as Guest79855 [21:53] @holstein thanks again for your help, was actually easier than I realised.
