micahgyofel: you want to lino the link to the LP page or wiki page?00:02
yofelmicahg: well, I'm currently linking to the LP page, that's simply https://launchpad.net/~<username> . Not all users have a wiki page and there isn't a default name for it00:05
micahgyofel: k, I guess that works better actually00:07
penguin42I *really* wish launchpad wouldn't lose the whole damn report when it timed out00:19
micahgpenguin42: there's a bug open for it00:21
penguin42ah that's ok :-)00:21
blankthemuffinHello, I've got a few bugs to report but not sure what to file them against. The first one being when you have automatic login enabled, the system boots and after everything has loaded it asks for a password. This dialogue blocks the screen lock, so. If I turn on my computer and leave it for a few minutes, I come back and there is just the ordinary password dialogue. But as soon as I put in my password the screen lock00:21
blankthemuffin gets the freedom it was after and instantly locks the screen. Meaning I have to enter my password again.00:21
* penguin42 is trying to figure out why the server vm he's updated to maverick isn't doing iscsi serving00:22
penguin42and wireshark doesn't want to play ball :-(00:24
blankthemuffinmy second problem is that as soon as my battery hits the critical level, I get spammed with 'the system is about to hibernate' notices, and half the time even if I plug in it still powers down about a minute later. There is no timer or way to cancel, and it totally ignores the power status. when it starts to perform the actual hibernate. Also on occasion these build up so much that after plugging in and resuming, it s00:32
blankthemuffintill has all the warnings and proceeds to almost immediately hibernate again, this happens up to about 5 times in a row which usually means it's much easier just to force a power off and start again.00:32
penguin42blankthemuffin: I've seen a bug somewhere - maybe ubuntu, maybe fedora bug lists - about how once it's decided it's going to go and even if you throw power in it still hibernates00:36
yofelsounds like a g-p-m bug00:37
penguin42hi, any bug swauders want to look at #604087 - I'm seeing this and I think it's a fairly important regression for server00:48

kermiac<stlsaint> anyone now the link on lp to start assigning bugs  -- what are you wanting to assign bugs to mate?02:27
stlsaintkermiac: i dont know, vish gave me a linky yesterday that took me to a bunch of unassinged bugs and told me i could have at it on lp02:30
kermiacstlsaint: was it the first link on this page mate?  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/EasyTasks02:30
* micahg does not consider bugs w/out a package an easy task02:31
* kermiac shrugs02:32
kermiachttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage makes it somewhat easy, but the difficulty varies I suppose02:33
micahgkermiac: I guess02:34
kermiacmicahg: some can be almost blatantly obvious if you follow that wiki page, but I do agree that sometimes it can really be a struggle to find which package is causing the issue.02:37
kermiacstlsaint: was that the link you were after mate?02:38
stlsaintkermiac: naw02:39
stlsaintkermiac: it was this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs?field.searchtext=&orderby=-datecreated&search=Search&field.status:list=NEW&field.importance:list=UNKNOWN&field.importance:list=UNDECIDED&assignee_option=any&field.assignee=&field.bug_reporter=&field.bug_supervisor=&field.bug_commenter=&field.subscriber=&field.component-empty-marker=1&field.status_upstream-empty-marker=1&field.omit_dupes.used=&field.omit_dupes=on&field.has_patch02:40
stlsaintmaybe i should have made that a tiny url eh?! :D02:40
stlsaintkermiac: http://tiny.cc/s36xt02:40
stlsainthey i was just thinking, for this whole package ordeal02:41
stlsainthas anyone tried lfs?02:42
yofelwhat's that02:42
kermiacstlsaint: ah, that has a cpl hundred more reports than the one linked on the "easy tasks" page02:42
stlsaintyofel: linux from scratch02:44
stlsaintkermiac: whos the bug wiki editor person?02:44
kermiacstlsaint: I think anyone should have access to edit the bugsquad wikis02:45
stlsaintorly? >:)02:45
kermiacstlsaint: why, what's up mate?02:45
yofelstlsaint: the most I came close to that was installing gentoo...02:45
stlsaintyofel: aye, just something on my projects list ;)02:46
stlsaintkermiac: i was thinking, you guys could add a list of packages and what they do for a base install of ubuntu as listed here: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/stable/prologue/package-choices.html02:47
stlsaintkermiac: maybe that can narrow down some of the package searching02:48
kermiacstlsaint: That would probably be best sent to the ML to ask for opinions02:49
kermiacstlsaint: 'apt-cache show PKGNAME' somewhat helps with that issue02:50
stlsaintkermiac: true but you must know the name of the package for that command02:52
stlsaintkermiac: also does the mailing list post *every* single bug transcation that happens on lp?02:53
kermiacstlsaint: yup, that can make it difficult hehe02:53
kermiacstlsaint: not the bugsquad or bugcontrol lists. They are for bug related discussions.02:54
kermiacstlsaint: I think there is a ml for all ubuntu-related bugs, but I haven't subscribed to it.02:54
hggdhyes, ubuntu-bugs02:55
stlsaintkermiac: exactly so a list easily accessible that shows what the package handles can steer people in a better direction for getting bugs to packages :D02:55
stlsaintkermiac: is there a mailing list just for discussion and not ALL bug transactions02:55
hggdhand apt-file search <something> will list all packages that deploy <something>02:55
kermiacstlsaint: yes, bugsquad/ control lists are for discussion. Sorry if i wasn't clear (doing 50 things at once hehe)02:56
stlsainthggdh: apt-file?03:02
stlsaintyou sure about that?03:03
stlsainthggdh: i use aptitude search <name> if thats what your referring to03:03
stlsainthggdh: but most bugs that arent assinged dont put the needed name such as: dbconf03:04
stlsaintso you cant just use: aptitude search dbconf03:04
stlsainthggdh: catch my drift ;)03:04
micahgstlsaint: apt-file searches the files in the .debs, aptitude search searches the descriptions03:05
stlsaintmicahg: is this what you and hggdh are referring to?03:06
stlsaintstlsaint@stlsaint-laptop:~$ apt-file --help03:06
stlsaintThe program 'apt-file' is currently not installed.  You can install it by typing:03:06
stlsaintsudo apt-get install apt-file03:06
micahgstlsaint: yes, it's a cache of all the filepaths in the archive03:07
stlsaintmicahg: gotcha03:07
stlsaintmicahg: sucks it has to be installed though as most users probably arent tracking that, but im slow and you guys prolly have it in a wiki somewhere03:08
micahgstlsaint: it's not for regular users03:08
stlsaintmicahg: i see, but isnt package assinging something that even a person who isnt a bug squad member can do03:09
stlsaintmicahg: IE: a regular user03:09
micahgstlsaint: sure, but it's not required software03:09
stlsaintim a regular user yet i want to join bug squad and i didnt know that about apt-file03:09
stlsaintmicahg: aye03:10
micahgstlsaint: no, I meant most people probably don't need it03:10
stlsaintmicahg: aye, but this is why i suggested a list be added to wiki that shows the base packages for ubuntu and what they do. That way a user who doesnt know about apt-file can easily see what these packages do and can assign bugs to them more effectively03:11
micahgstlsaint: that list would be pretty long03:11
stlsaintmicahg: meh, not too long as to be useless, just something of this nature: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/stable/prologue/package-choices.html03:13
stlsaintmicahg: a base package list of ubuntu03:13
micahgstlsaint: most bugs aren't in those packages03:14
micahgstlsaint: and the find the right package wiki page is much more useful IMHO03:14
stlsainti may need to read into more than03:21
stlsaintmicahg: indeed that wiki page is very nice03:23
stlsaintmicahg: success, you guys did have apt-file in wiki! takes a little reading i see03:28

yofeluh... very descriptive way to close a bug "Bug closed, ack sent to submitter - they'd better know why !"21:14
dyfetlol21:15
dyfetso we don't know why they did it, either :)21:16
dyfetBut we do know that it was done21:17
dyfethttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apcupsd/+bug/602978 may be ready to mark, too, though it too is an odd one :)21:26
ubot2Launchpad bug 602978 in apcupsd (Ubuntu) "failure to kill UPS power over snmp/pcnet connection (affects: 1) (heat: 539)" [Undecided,New]21:26
atrusany idea why bug #229945 is marked invalid?22:46
ubot2Launchpad bug 229945 in network-manager (Ubuntu) (and 1 other project) "wi-fi does not automatically come on during boot up (affects: 1) (dups: 2) (heat: 23)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/22994522:46
atrusoh.. that's for the upstream task. disregard.22:46
yofelthe upstream bug expired, as the asked for information and it was never provided22:51
yofel*as they22:51
maxwellianWhat do we do with bugs that were files against a package that has become a virtual package to transition to a new name?23:27
maxwellianfiled*23:27
maxwelliane.g. bug 4262223:27
ubot2Launchpad bug 42622 in gnome-app-install (Ubuntu) (and 1 other project) "Missing .desktop file (heat: 4)" [Medium,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/4262223:27
maxwellianThat was filed against drscheme, which is now a dummy package.23:28
yofelmaxwellian: I would set that bug back to fix released and ask the reporter to file a new bug agianst plt-scheme23:36
maxwellianyofel: Okay, thanks.23:37
yofelthat plt-scheme doesn't have a desktop file has nothing to do with the drscheme package23:37
yofelI wonder if we can get rid of the transitional package in maverick23:39
maxwellianyofel: The previous patches seemed to apply to the drscheme package.  You're saying that's changed now, right?23:39
yofelyes, /usr/bin/drscheme is now part of plt-scheme, the desktop file might still apply though23:41
yofelactually you can link the new bug with debian 51339023:42
ubot2Debian bug 513390 in plt-scheme "include DrScheme menu item in package" [Wishlist,Open] http://bugs.debian.org/51339023:42
yofel*sigh* Date: Wed, 28 Jan 2009 16:33:01 UTC - the debian folks really aren't better at taking care of bugs than we are..23:44
maxwellianyofel: Well this might be a good candidate for my first bug fix attempt.23:44
maxwellianyofel: But yes, a lot of the "bitesize" bugs are old, and it seems unclear how to deal with them.23:45
yofelyeah, but as we just sync the package from debian, this *really* should be fixed there, maybe send the maintainer a mail, or ask in -motu (or -devel?) how to contact the debian folks23:46
maxwellianyofel: You know that we just sync it because there's no XubuntuX in the version, right?23:47
yofelyes23:48
maxwellianyofel: So is it okay to try to make a patch, then send the patch upstream?  Or just e-mail upstream without trying?23:48
yofelnot sure, we'll have a session in -classroom next week (22.) on how to use the Debian BTS, I'm sure you'll find somebody who knows more about this than I do there23:50
maxwellianyofel: Great, thanks for your help! :)23:51
yofelyou're welcome23:52
* maxwellian high fives yofel o/\o23:53
