[00:09] jenkins: I thought you were going to sleep :D [00:10] I am too awake :D . And there was a date error in the newsletter [00:20] * jenkins googles more on the nexus one [00:30] The manual is set to structured translations [00:31] humphreybc: as in you have now set it? [00:31] no, as in it's been like that for ages [00:32] it was not earlier today when I looked promis. some one has changed the focus of translations as well today [00:32] *promise [00:32] its now lucid-e2 [00:32] I just did that [00:32] but it was on structured already when I looked [00:33] hmm, strange I would not have e-mailed if not. I will let the person know. thanks [00:34] I wonder how easy it is for anyone to change that page? [00:34] no idea [00:34] I'd guess you would have to be an administrator [00:35] but I definitely remember I changed it to structured months ago when we initially had this conversation [00:35] I am not one for the manual team [00:35] i thought you would have done thats why I thought it was strange [00:37] mm [00:44] I set it to structured just a couple hours ago. [00:44] It was on Open for some reason. [00:44] yey I was not going mad [00:44] I'm not sure how it got switched from Structured to Open, though. [00:45] The whole Launchpad translation system scares me. [00:45] I think it fiddles with things randomly just to cause me grief. [00:45] hmm [00:45] I would have changed it but I thought ben might have set it some where else. [00:45] I definitely set it to structured months ago [00:45] Yeah, I distinctly remember setting it to structured. [00:45] So I'm not sure what happened. [00:46] i think the page is openly chnageable [00:49] i will ask dpm tomorrow about the permissions of that page [00:50] 'kay. [00:50] Tell them to stop screwing with me. :-) [00:51] We also had it set to disallow automatic translation updates, but that got re-enabled somehow, too. I reset that last week or so. [00:51] It'd help if they set out notifications of such changes and be specific about who made the change and when in the notification. [00:51] e.g., godbyk changed the permissions from 'Open' to 'Structured' on the lucid-1e branch on this date and time. [00:52] or godbyk manually uploaded a translation template for import into the lucid-1e branch at this date and time. [00:52] or launchpad automatically imported a translation template from the lucid-1e branch at this date and time. [00:52] so we have some idea of what's triggering the existing notification emails and also get a heads-up when someone changes something. [00:53] I think humphreybc can only stay online for ~5 minutes at a time these days. :) [00:53] that sound a good idea godbyk, [00:54] sorry, had to restart to fix an apt lock. sigh. === jenkins is now known as ubuntujenkins === ubuntujenkins is now known as jenkins === jenkins is now known as jenkins_ === jenkins_ is now known as jenkins [01:34] godbyk: I fear we're turning into the docs team re: translated edition approval [01:49] humphreybc: What do you mean? [01:50] Well I just read your reply to Daniel and felt the old tl;dr coming into play [01:50] I don't want to put off translators from translating the manual because it's so hard [01:50] Oh, well, has to be done. [01:50] (and because we're such picky bastards) [01:50] Yeah, I know [01:50] I don't think there was anything in there that was picky was, there? [01:50] as much as I want to maintain the quality throughout translated editions, I'd prefer we have translated editions with a few errors than none at all [01:51] Obviously we need a much better system for translations [01:51] The basic problem is that there's extra text that needs to be translated. Things that don't appear on Launchpad's translation site. [01:51] I don't think that email was picky, no, but I swear that is like the seventh email I've read in the ML from Daniel [01:52] Probably is. I've been horribly busy lately, so I haven't been quite as on top of things as I'd prefer. [01:52] Soon we'll be in August and still not have any translated copies out - which basically means we've failed at something which was going to set us apart from all other ubuntu documentation [01:52] I'm not blaming you :) [01:52] At the same time, he tends to not provide quite all the info that we request. [01:52] yeah [01:52] well it's something we need to seriously think about [01:53] because, as I said, translations is something that was going to set us apart [01:53] I just posted screen and print versions of the Greek edition and have emailed c7p to give it a final glance-over. [01:53] awesome [01:53] let me know when it's on our site and I can announce it on the planet / omg [01:53] Once I get the cover from thorwil (which I just emailed him about) and the okay from c7p, I think we're ready to go with the Greek edition. [01:54] Yeah, we definitely need to improve the translation process and make it easier to get translations released. [01:54] If more people want to dive in and help, that'd be great. Aside from jenkins, I don't think I've had anyone step up and ask to how to help. [01:55] So in general, I'm probably a bit of a bottleneck right now. We should look into fixing that (by getting more people who can help out with the things I do). [01:55] We also need to step up our bug fixing on the second edition so it's ready to go by our 29 July deadline. [01:57] I thought most of the bugs were fixed? [01:57] I don't know if most bugs have even been filed, to be honest. [01:57] really? [01:57] but we had that big competition with hundreds of bugs reported and fixed [01:57] When I was converting the Rhythmbox section to html, I noticed a bunch of formatting bugs. [01:57] They may be localized to that section, though. [01:58] (speaking of which, I need to send that book to our winner - but I need to raise funds to pay for it ;p ) [01:58] Ah, c'mon.. it costs less than $10. :-) [01:58] Did you ever get your copies, btw? [01:59] Also, shouldn't you send them a second edition (so they can see their bugs have been fixed?) :) [01:59] brb [01:59] I got one :) [01:59] ah, yes, good point [02:02] back [02:03] So. Much. Stuff. To. Do. [02:03] I hear ya! [08:08] hey synergetic [11:05] hehe check this out http://www.googlubuntu.com/ [11:21] jenkins: hehehe, thats cool [11:21] jenkins: i noticed they left the e off google so they probably wont get shunted for copyright [12:00] nisshh: I think google made it [12:01] jenkins: possibly [12:02] jenkins: i dont think they did though, it doesnt look nearly as professional or as minimal as google would make it [12:21] nisshh: they did not at the bottom it says "©2007-2008 Made by Alrond" === hemanth is now known as monthi === monthi is now known as monti === monti is now known as hemanth === Zeike is now known as brandonj [22:27] daker: radius of 10px please [22:27] oki [22:29] hello all :) [22:32] thanks dak:) [22:32] *daker [22:32] hey c7p [22:39] thanks daker :) [22:39] np [23:27] omg wheres kevin? [23:27] he is always here [23:29] LOST!!! [23:31] Right I am off to bed night all
