nickbphi, mythbuntu 10.04 has decided to ignore the spdif/digital out on my onboard audio (snd-hda-intel on some realtek chip), how can i disable the analog audio?00:12
nickbpdigital is now being ignored across vlc/mplayer/mythtv, so im thinking alsa decided to do something obnoxious00:12
nickbpgood thing im not on pulseaudio thatd probably just make the problem worse00:15
nickbpi was able to fix mplayer with "ao=alsa:device=iec958", but this still leaves mythtv channels, flash, etc00:21
nickbpwhich all seem to agree with alsa's crotchety opinion that digital out should be ignored00:27
Shadow__Xnickbp: setup also to use that tuner00:28
Shadow__Xoutput*00:29
nickbpShadow__X: setup what?01:31
Shadow__Xnickbp: the sound01:34
Shadow__Xyou know its not using the right output so you can either set it per app or you can just set it up correct01:34
Shadow__Xin the top bar there is a volume slider right click it and do properties01:35
Shadow__Xand you can change it01:35
qwebirc90768hello02:22

rileypanyone home today03:04
rileypI need some help with mythexport03:04
rileypWould anyone be so kind03:05
rhpot1991rileyp: whats the problem?03:36
Fudgeis there any  cli tooks to setup myth backend03:40
Fudgetools03:40
nickbpShadow__X: is this in xfce?03:43
Shadow__Xnickbp: yes03:45
rileypmythweb is really slow to respond andmythexport gives me a 404 error03:45
rileyphttp://pastebin.com/QiDAw8ze this is my apache2 errror log03:46
rileypI flushed privildges yesterday.03:47
qwebirc88296hello03:51
qwebirc88296i did a fresh03:51
qwebirc88296install of mythbuntu03:51
qwebirc88296audio files working fine03:51
qwebirc88296thru myth03:51
qwebirc88296but cant open or see avi files03:52
qwebirc88296any ideas03:52
Shadow__Xqwebirc88296: for starters lets try and keep it to just a few lines next would be did you tell mythtv where to find your media03:52
qwebirc88296i installed boxee on same machine03:52
qwebirc88296yep03:53
qwebirc88296boxee is working just fine03:53
Shadow__Xhttp://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Storage_Groups#Storage_directories03:53
Zinn[www.mythtv.org] User Manual:MythTV structure - MythTV03:53
qwebirc88296it was an avi file03:54
Shadow__Xok did you use the mythbuntu control center and install the codecs03:54
qwebirc88296yep03:55
qwebirc88296after i tried first03:55
qwebirc88296i had to go into myth and write internal for avi03:55
Shadow__Xor perhaps say use default03:56
Shadow__Xalso make sure it says Internal03:56
qwebirc88296the other codecs had listed internal03:56
qwebirc88296i could give default a try03:56
qwebirc88296any other thoughts as to what it could be03:56
qwebirc88296could it be this bit about a storage directory03:58
qwebirc88296in the manual it says it must have a directory in the storage group03:58
qwebirc88296i haven't et anything up mannually yet for that03:59
len_Is anyone here using mirobridge?03:59
qwebirc88296just trying to use the box for standalone video player03:59
len_mythbuntu control center sets up miro to save videos to /root/.miro03:59
len_The recordings show up in mythtv in the media library04:00
len_just like that are supposed to04:00
len_but they don't play because of permission problems04:01
len_mythbuntu runs under a user account04:01
len_why does the mythbuntu control centre configure the miro account to root?04:02
tgm4883len_, I used to use it, but I don't have a /root/.miro dir. I have a /home/thomas/.miro directory04:02
len_If I install miro one its own it creates a user directory04:02
len_But when I config in mythbuntu control center04:03
tgm4883well you have to have miro installed in order to mirobridge to work04:03
len_it creates a it's own root version04:03
len_miro is installed and working04:03
len_but putting recordings in /root04:03
tgm4883len_, 10.04 or 9.10?04:03
len_10.0404:03
tgm4883sec04:04
tgm4883len_, how did you start the control centre?04:05
len_with the control center icon04:05
Shadow__Xqwebirc88296: if you plan to use the box as a standalone video player without recording videos mythtv isnt the best option04:06
len_I'm not.  I'm using it for everything04:06
* tgm4883 points out that Shadow__X wasn't talking to len_ 04:07
len_And it does it is doing it just like I want it.  miro downloads get intregrated right with the rest.  just don't a have permission to actually view04:07
len_Ah, OK :)04:07
qwebirc88296what is the best option04:07
Shadow__Xlen_: i was talking to qwebirc88296 and if you plan to record tv then by all means use mythtv i know i do04:07
qwebirc88296just for a player04:08
Shadow__Xqwebirc88296: you can just install ubuntu and boxee and just be done04:08
qwebirc88296yeah04:08
Shadow__Xmythtv has much more overhead because it is designed to be structured around recording tv and is a client/server model04:08
Shadow__Xwhich you dont need04:08
qwebirc88296i was reading and alot of people say the playback through myth is the best04:08
tgm4883hmm04:09
tgm4883what package is mirobridge part of?04:09
qwebirc88296your thoughts04:09
len_I'm scratching my head on this one.  Miro run stand-alone uses a regular user account, but mythbuntu control centre sets up it's own separte root copy.04:09
Shadow__Xqwebirc88296: sure playback is good but if all your doing is goign to be playing videos out of a folder install vanilla ubuntu install boxee set that up and boom done04:10
tgm4883len_, i've pinged the developer on it. I've got a 9.10 backend, which is working right here04:10
qwebirc88296yeah its easy but which is the best performer for 108004:10
len_Thanks04:11
Shadow__Xqwebirc88296: well if your cpu can handle it anything04:11
qwebirc88296this is a setup for my room but i am going to be getting that new asus ion for the main room and thats where I am not sure04:12
qwebirc882961.6 ghz dual its a little iffy on the performance side but is supposed to kick out 1080p04:13
tgm4883qwebirc88296, you probably want XBMC/Boxee04:13
tgm4883although I kind of hate boxee04:13
qwebirc88296yeah04:13
qwebirc88296i have read so many great things on myth04:13
qwebirc88296i just did the install today04:14
qwebirc88296I don't know much but really wanted to learn more04:14
Shadow__Xqwebirc88296: yeah mythtv is great but if you just plan to watch videos then its overkill04:14
Shadow__Xand not in a goodway04:14
len_It works fine btw.  It creates links to the /root/.miro recordings, and the miro recordings show up in the media library just like they should--they just don't play because of permissions.04:14
qwebirc88296hm04:15
qwebirc88296for now i have the boxee on the mythbuntu box that install of ubuntu on mythbuntu is really light04:16
Shadow__Xok04:17
Shadow__Xbut not compared to an xubuntu install04:17
Shadow__Xbecause mythtv needs more libs04:17
Shadow__Xand has dependencies04:17
Shadow__Xlike mysql and myth frontend backend04:17
qwebirc88296the boxee still needs a 9.1 distro04:17
Shadow__Xits upto 10.04 now04:18
qwebirc88296oh i see04:18
qwebirc88296nice04:18
qwebirc88296which would be stronger for streaming internet tv04:18
qwebirc88296myth or boxee04:19
Shadow__Xboxee imo would be easier for someone that wants point and click04:19
Shadow__Xi love mythtv but its geared more towards people who want to get their hands dirty04:19
qwebirc88296i see well i am up for the challenge with myth just figured i would ask some q's this evening04:20
Shadow__Xright i am sure you can get it to work but for your situation boxee would be easier04:20
Shadow__Xbut yeah if you want to learn thats good too04:20
qwebirc88296its weird that the audio loaded and played but the video got jammed04:20
Shadow__Xfor vdpau(gpu offloading) you need a recent nvidia card04:21
Shadow__Xit could have internal errors04:21
Shadow__Xtry another video04:21
qwebirc88296well it didnt even load up as playable in the library04:21
qwebirc88296it showed no files present when in myth04:21
Shadow__Xi am not sure i havnt had those issues04:21
qwebirc88296even though its sitting in the video file for the library04:22
Shadow__Xare you using mythvideo?04:22
qwebirc88296yep04:22
Shadow__Xand did you hit m for menu and scanned for changes04:22
qwebirc88296nope did not do that04:22
Shadow__Xbecause i have files and they play fine04:22
Shadow__Xreading through some of the documentation would help04:22
qwebirc88296yeah04:23
Shadow__Xi am not trying to discourage you from using mythtv just pointing out there are easier ways if all you want to do is watch videos instead of recording04:23
qwebirc88296nobody seemed to be having this issue04:23
qwebirc88296i hear u shadow04:23
Shadow__Xsometimes issues happen04:24
qwebirc88296thats linux04:24
qwebirc88296frustrating this early to be having what appears on the surface to be a very basic issue04:24
qwebirc88296thanks for the help04:25
qwebirc88296i gotta run04:25
innatechqwebirc88296 -- if you keep after this, try invoking mythfrontend from an xterm so you can see what it's complaining about.04:50
DaveMorrisI'm trying to use nuvexport to transcode some recordings however it is failing :(  Running it on Ubuntu Karmic.  I think I've identified the problem, which is that mythtranscode is running at 0 FPS  I'm running the command on my frontend, which has got the recordings mounted in the same location (they both exist on /recordings) as the backend, via NTFS.  Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong, or have wrongly configured?10:16
DaveMorrisNFS :)10:18
DaveMorrisfurther debugging shows the process is running at around 1 fps11:32
DaveMorrisif I do it separately with the commands I get from --debug11:32
innatech_athomeDaveMorris: this is a wild guess, but check the CPU usage settings for transcoding jobs?12:56
DaveMorriswhere is that set?  I checked it whilst it was running and it was at around 2%12:57
innatech_athomeI don't recall the menu layouts that clearly. On the backend, it's in General Settings, I think. Not sure if there's an independent setting on the frontend.12:58
DaveMorrisok, I'll have a poke around the menus when I make it home12:58
innatech_athomegood luck!12:58

rileypIts abded a mythweb  to sites available and it works15:36
rhpot1991reinstalling mythweb did that15:36
rhpot1991most likely15:37
rhpot1991shouldn't need caps15:37
rileypyes and the mythweb page loads15:37

rhpot1991<rhpot1991> is it in sites-enabled now?15:44

rhpot1991thats normal15:47
rileypah ok thats good to know15:48
rhpot1991and if your daemon wasn't started it wouldn't be able to stop it, so you can ignore that too15:48
rhpot1991if its in sites-enabled all you should need to do is restart apache, which I told you to do above after you enabled the site15:48
rileypok15:48
rileyp/etc/init.s/apche2 restart?15:49
rhpot1991yes15:50
rileypstill no go15:52
rileypis ther soemthing I need to config before mythexport can start I thought all the config was done via webpage15:54
rhpot1991rileyp: yes, but the web should just work15:54
rhpot1991its sin sites-enabled now?15:54
rileypwell it did a week ago15:54
rileypyes it is and sites available15:55
rhpot1991and what have you done since then?15:55
rhpot1991lets try this15:55
rileypI installed tomcat6 and mythpodcaster15:55
rhpot1991sudo a2dissite mythexport.conf15:55
rhpot1991sudo a2ensite mythexport.conf15:55
rhpot1991sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart15:55

rileypis that normal15:57
rileypstill not loading15:57
rileypi disabled and renabled mythexport and restarted apache15:58
rhpot1991yes, thats the same warning as before15:59
rileyphttp://192.168.1.10/mythexport/ is the page Im attempting to load15:59
rhpot1991rileyp: still 404?15:59
rileypno its 500 internal server error15:59
rhpot1991woulda been nice to know when it changed from 404 to 500...16:00
rileypshould I paste /var.log/apache2/error.log16:00
rhpot1991yes16:00
rileyphttp://pastebin.com/XZcGxbg616:02
rhpot1991rileyp: odds are your /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt or config.xml files have the wrong password in them16:03
rileypmythweb works and mythfrontends work but yes perhaps16:04
rileypIll lokk16:04
rileypdb password is mythtv and it still got the auro generated one in config.xml16:05
rhpot1991well they connect differently16:05
rhpot1991it will be reading config.xml for that16:06
rileyploads!16:06
rileypthnask you now can a sk a few simple questions as Iv enver used it before16:07
rhpot1991rileyp: sure16:07
rileypI never would of worked that one out you are a gem!16:07
rileypNow will I be able to select download items to download on my ipod16:08
rhpot1991rileyp: if you set everything up then you should be able to just point itunes (or whatever you are using) at the rss feed16:08
rhpot1991hopefully itunes is happy about the mp3 audio, if not you will need to enable medibuntu and switch out libmp3 for libfaac, should all be on the wiki16:09
rileypOk so my ipod  will down load them via its wireless network ability16:09
rhpot1991rileyp: ipod touch with built in wireless?16:10
rileypI choos to transcode item via mythtv i sthat correct16:10
rileypyes that correct16:10
rhpot1991might be able to do that, I've always uses software to do it on my computer16:10
rhpot1991I gave up on ipods when mine broke, so I haven't bothered much with them in the past few releases16:11
rhpot1991in mythweb or mythfrontend you can execute the user job on a recording, it will then show up in the rss feed once its done encoding16:11
rileypto execute the user job its a select and click thing16:12
rhpot1991rileyp: you can tell it to run a user job on specific recordings when you set them up too16:13
rhpot1991so say you record a sports show every day, you can have that automagically encode when its done recording16:13
rileypAnd you can slect when transcoding is done so it does not interfere with recording etc16:14
rileypvia myth user jobs of course16:15
rhpot1991rileyp: well you can do them whenever you want, but if you set them to happen automagically it happens when the recording is done16:16
rhpot1991its run with nice -19 so it should never cause issues with hogging cpu16:16
rileypI read recently that ffmpeg command line parameter had changed and it was causing grief with mythwexport16:18
rileypam I mistaken?16:18
rhpot1991it does all the time16:18
rileypdoes mythexport use ffmpeg?16:18
rhpot1991yes16:18
rhpot1991every release I have headaches with flags changing16:19
rhpot1991like what I was mentioning with mp3 above16:19
rhpot1991ipods prefer aac, but we don't have aac in ffmpeg any longer16:19
rileyphttp://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=111728316:20

rileyphaha beat ya16:20
rileypI did plan C medibuntu16:21
rileypthanks anyway zim can you offer up some settings for me as I have no idea16:21
rhpot1991zinn is just telling you the title of the page you pasted16:22
ZinnHi rhpot1991, something I can help you with today?  I am a bot, use !help to see what I can do.16:22
rhpot1991B. Install the unstripped or extra libraries16:22
rhpot1991mythexport does that16:22
rhpot1991C is what I said you could do16:22
rhpot1991I do not recommend A at all16:22
rileypI did C 4 hours ago should I do B16:22
rileypAh ok zin the bot tricky16:23
rileypOk so if I just installed mythexport it would break C?16:24
rhpot1991rileyp: no, but you will need to change the ffmpeg line to use aac instead16:26
rhpot1991it should all be on the wiki16:26
rileypok thnaks so should I stay with C?16:26
rhpot1991rileyp: or you could get a mediaplayer that doesn't hate freedom :)16:26
rileypIt was a birthday present 6 days ago I have a company phone so thast wasnt going to happen16:27
rhpot1991rileyp: C should help you with ipods16:28
rileypok so Ill stick with C is ther anything else I need to install as thats all I have apart from what mythbuntu gives and16:31
LuYui need help configuring X for a TV18:16
LuYuive got an old sony trinitron18:16
LuYuand the svideo output18:16
LuYuis really ugly18:16
LuYunow that xrandr pretty much stomps xorg,18:17
LuYuxorg.conf18:17
LuYulife has become difficult18:17
LuYuplus, TV specs dont include resolution18:18
LuYuthe screen is pretty much square, so im guessing a resolution like 800x800 would work18:18
LuYubut i have no idea how to do video timings or anything like that18:19
DaveMorris1Hi,  I see that nuvexport got dropped for lucid, I assume there is a better tool for archiving off our recordings.  So what is the preferred way now?21:59
rhpot1991DaveMorris1: we stopped packaging it because no one was maintaining it and it was constantly out of sync and unusable22:03
DaveMorris1yeah I guessed it was something like that, but what is the supported way of archiving off recordings?22:03
rhpot1991DaveMorris1: use mytharchive?22:04
rhpot1991or build nuvexport from source22:04
rhpot1991or make your own user job22:04
DaveMorris1it appears to make them into DVDs, I wanna keep them as files on my fileserver22:04
rhpot1991you could use mythexport too, but it includes a lot of things you don't care about22:05
DaveMorris1currently looking at mythexport, which may do the job22:05
rhpot1991DaveMorris1: you can transcode right from myth, cut the commercials and transcode22:05
rhpot1991wont give you the choices nuvexport gave you though22:05
DaveMorris1ok, I'm looking at http://www.mythbuntu.org/wiki/MythExport and it says there is a webinterface for it22:06
DaveMorris1but what is the url ???22:06
DaveMorris1using find, I've got it :)22:06
rhpot1991DaveMorris1: after you install its http://localhost/mythexport22:07
DaveMorris1the formatting apears wrong on that page, let me see if my account is still valid22:07
rhpot1991ya it is22:07
rhpot1991prob from us pulling it from the old wiki22:07
rhpot1991DaveMorris1: so whatever the ip of your backend is, add mythexport onto that22:07
rhpot1991DaveMorris1: fair warning you are going to need to mess with ffmpeg with this until you get something you like22:08
rhpot1991pretty much all of my pre-sets are for mobile devices22:08
DaveMorris1also if it runs on the backend I don't think I wanna do that.  My backend is a little under spec22:08
rhpot1991DaveMorris1: you can trick it with NFS shares22:09
rhpot1991so run it on a different box and just have the location look the same22:09
DaveMorris1hmmm, I think I'll also take a look at http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Mythnuv2mkv22:10
Zinn[www.mythtv.org] Mythnuv2mkv - MythTV22:10
rhpot1991mkv is nice I must say22:12
rhpot1991I plan on making it less of a hastle dealing with ffmpeg in upcoming releases22:13
DaveMorris1from a users point of view, it just needs adding into to mytharchive, to archive them off to a folder as *.avi22:17
DaveMorris1the selecting of the files, encoder selection etc is all there22:18
DaveMorris1although nuvexport appeared to make it easy, however it isn't transcoding the files for me on karmic, and since it's dropped from lucid, not much point in using it22:19
rhpot1991DaveMorris1: problem is that ffmpeg loses sync with programs22:22
rhpot1991flags change every release22:22
rhpot1991so unless you have someone keeping up on it, we have a nuvexport that doesn't match the ffmpeg and you just can't use it then22:22
rhpot1991then users start building ffmpeg from source and all hell breaks lose22:23
Zinnrhpot1991: Please watch your language.22:23
rhpot1991quiet zinn22:23
ZinnHi rhpot1991, something I can help you with today?  I am a bot, use !help to see what I can do.22:23
DaveMorris1yeah, I know ffmpeg is a pig22:23
DaveMorris1which is why I don't wanna start rolling my own22:23
rhpot1991DaveMorris1: I'd try building nuvexport from source and running ffmpeg with medibuntu enabled22:24
rhpot1991if you want to maintain it we can get it back in22:25
rhpot1991or if you want to come up with a good mythexport solution that fits your needs I can build it into that as well22:25
DaveMorris1unfortunately I don't really have the time to maintain it22:25
DaveMorris1what will happen is I'll find time to package it up once, then not have time in the future22:27
rhpot1991DaveMorris1: prob best to talk to superm1, as far as I'm concerned our main issue is not with making the package but making sure it works each release22:28
rhpot1991ideally you should just be able to get the old source for the package and update the upstream source22:28
DaveMorris1yeah, which I can't commit my time to22:28
rhpot1991I say ideally, because I've never touched it so I have no idea what its doing22:28
superm1if we could get upstream to put it into mythplugins or something else we regularly build it would be so much easier22:28
superm1keeping it on it's own branch just makes it too tedious to have to update each time22:29
rhpot1991superm1: ffmpeg sync is a bigger issue IMO22:29
rhpot1991having a package that doesn't work with ubuntu's ffmpeg causes more headaches than its worth22:29
superm1ah22:29
rhpot1991trust me I know :)22:30
rhpot1991I should look into some automated testing for that22:31
