keessuperm1: in lucid, mk-sbuild changed a lot (default names of schroots always have -$arch appended) but that shouldn't have broken old schroots01:17
keessuperm1: that said, I have been having to tweak my /etc/schroot/schroot.conf with ever new major version of schroot01:17
picard1421http://pastebin.com/c5Va7nSY why is this not compiling?01:26
YokoZarslangasek: Do you think we'll be able to start breaking up ia32-libs this release or is that the next phase of multiarch?01:40
ionI was happy to see there’s some progress with multiarch spec.01:41
picard1421anyoe?01:49
maxwellianpicard1421: I got here after you asked your question, can you repeat it?  I'm very new, so there's about a one in a million chance that I could help, but we can try. :P01:55
picard1421http://pastebin.com/c5Va7nSY  why is this not compiling?02:13
sladenpicard1421: first off, it's not a good idea to be running as root!  Please consider working as your own user, in your own home directory02:13
picard1421i tried that02:14
picard1421but since i did not extract it on ..02:14
picard1421my drive i extracted on windows.. permission were messed up02:14
picard1421i changed everything to 777 just for the pure purpose i want this to run .. i can redo it all later im wiping this install once i figure out how to compile this.. anyway..02:14
picard1421and redoing it completely02:14
sladenpicard1421: chown -R yourusername.yourusername the-messed-up-directory02:14
sladenahhhh.  Are you trying to compile this on a FAT partition?02:15
picard1421yea02:15
sladenokay.02:15
sladenpicard1421: 1. logout from root, login as yourself,   2. go to your home directory, make a new directory, cd into that02:16
sladenpicard1421: 3. cp -a ../../somewhere/ ./here02:16
picard1421k02:16
picard1421ok?02:17
sladenpicard1421: so we're in your home directory (which is not a FAT partition), the copied tree is owned by *you* (not root) and isn't 777 ?02:17
slangasekYokoZar: pam and libselinux are at the top of the list of packages to convert, and both of those are in ia32-libs today; so if we succeed in delivering any multiarch support, yes, we can start trimming ia32-libs02:18
picard1421yes02:18
sladenpicard1421: does  'make all'  work now?02:18
YokoZarslangasek: I'll note that PAM probably doesn't work properly in ia32-libs as it is now anyway (https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ia32-libs/+bug/172400)02:19
ubottuLaunchpad bug 172400 in ia32-libs (Ubuntu) "pam modules need dynamic 32-bit support and are missing from ia32-libs" [Low,Triaged]02:19
picard1421nope02:19
picard1421still same errors02:19
slangasekYokoZar: yes, I'm aware02:19
sladenpicard1421: delete  (rm -r that);  tar zxvf it again, fresh, into a directory in your home directory02:19
sladenpicard1421: ah, we're on #ubuntu-devel, lets take this private02:19
YokoZarslangasek: Anyway, I'll keep an eye out and maybe help migrate some packages to multiarch once it becomes possible :)02:21
slangasekthat would be keen02:21
superm1kees, okay i'll mess around a little bit with it.  worst comes to worst i'll just nuke em and make new schroot's05:36

judgenmage8, How about a dock that can be used with windowmanagers that enforces borders. This could be achieved with "override_redirect"09:56
judgenCairo-dock and awn work very poorly on those ytpe of envoriments.09:57
mage8judgen...thanks for reply...i dont know whether it is suitable as a project..i have to see how large it is10:05
mage8would'nt a patch to Cairo-dock or awn be a more appropriate repsonse10:09
judgenmage8, maybe, i am not sure.10:11

LucidFoxI've been wondering11:24
LucidFoxwhat prevents GPL-like licenses from being revoked?11:24
=== yofel_ is now known as yofel
judgenLucidFox, Nothing per se, but the source that is under GPL is still available for usage and forking.11:28
judgenYou can not take back the code that is allready released.11:28
judgenCompareable to a sales contract11:29
LucidFoxSo, what will happen if a copyright holder tries to declare the terms under which they released their works void, and to prohibit existing users from exercising their GPL rights?11:31
LucidFoxthey can't do that?11:31
ansgarLucidFox: They cannot do that for old releases, only for new ones.11:33
=== mage8_ is now known as mage7
ansgarLucidFox: The GPL even states 'All rights granted [...] are irrevocable provided the stated conditions are met.'11:34
=== mage7 is now known as mage8
mage8LucidFox:you cant go back on what you already agreed upon...thats like breaking the terms of the contract you have already signed11:39
mage8however, if say you 're the sole copyright holder of the program and you release version 1.0 as gpl11:40
mage8and you make modifications to it and release v2.0 under some other license ...that should be perfectly legal and enforcable iif am not mistaken11:41
mage8however those got v1.0 under gpl are still under the terms of gpl11:42
mage8in the case of linux however which has the contributions of thousands of people...there can be no change of license unless each and every contributer agrees to the new license11:44

ionblackz: Wouldn’t it be nicer to put a single copy of ppa-purge to universe instead of having copies of it in a number of PPAs?18:19
BlackZion: it's already in universe18:20
ionblackz: Ah, a binary package hasn’t just reached my mirror yet. I only looked at “apt-cache policy ppa-purge” and made an invalid assumption. Sorry for the noise. :-)18:22
BlackZion: the binary package needs to be manually approved by an archive admin at this moment (it's in the NEW queue)18:27
BlackZs/approved/accepted18:29

alkisgTuxpaint and tuxtype were demoted from main to universe and the translations are missing (stripped), so they *only* need a reuploading. Is that possible, or some other method applies better? Besides reporting the problem (bug #503919), can we do anything to help with its resolution?18:53
ubottuLaunchpad bug 503919 in Baltix "Translations missing in tuxpaint-data Ubuntu 10.04 package" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/50391918:53

ionhttp://launchpad.net/bugs/1 would be nice to get fixed finally.19:26
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1 in Ubuntu "Microsoft has a majority market share" [Critical,In progress]19:26
mage8well we've to finish the project in 1 sem....unless we crash bill gates private yacht laden with explosives into redmond i dont think we would be able to finish the project in time19:28
alkisgYou could create a virus that transmutes all windows installations to ubuntu installations :D19:29
alkisg*transformes19:29
alkisgmage8: you need to be more specific, but I doubt if that's the correct channel anyway..19:30
alkisgE.g. a programming project? In which languages, toolkits etc?19:31
mage8well we're not really specific about topic...1. we're quite noob coders...2. 3 in a team...3. have 1 sem to finish(the next sem) 4. it should qualify as a project(that is it should not be something like bugfix or implement a small feature)19:32
mage8language toolkits not specific...we look to learn the languages, frameworks in this sem and start coding next sem19:32
* alkisg doesn't know which channel would be appropriate for that question, but maybe someone in #edubuntu has some idea, if you ask at weekdays...19:33
mage8well we've to submit abstract on monday19:34
mage8and yeah i know we left it for the last moment19:34
mage8hmmm...scanning through ubuntu's gsoc page19:37
jacquesdptd_iP-1hello guys19:45
mage8going  to bed ...to wake up in 4 hours19:45
jacquesdptd_iP-1seems some people were wrong here, ubuntu iphone will never be possible, once again people like me and James that has been kicked when asking help talking about the project of porting ubuntu on iphone, were right to only listen to themselves19:47
Aquinahello, jacquesdptd_iP-119:48
jacquesdptd_iP-1Cause, yes iX has done it, and James has completed the project and has or is on the point of releasing the first downloadable image :)19:48
jacquesdptd_iP-1i hope you take it as a good news, cause further help after seeing it is a real thing will be much appreciated19:49
jacquesdptd_iP-1Hi Aquina19:50
AquinaiPhone sucks. It's a nightmare to integrate it into an already established IT-landscape. Blackberrys integrate much more seamless. And by the way... Apple is on it's way to close all it's stuff. UI and services was just the beginning...19:50
jacquesdptd_iP-1that said Aquina, show me 1, only 1 phone that as managed to port any other OS for real and useable19:50
jacquesdptd_iP-1?19:50
jacquesdptd_iP-1and dont show me htc hd 219:50
jacquesdptd_iP-1cause the guy is even not capable of clicking on the blind little error window19:51
AquinaI don't understand the question ("for real and usable")? What do you mean by that?19:51
jacquesdptd_iP-1ok the interface loads but that's it19:51
jacquesdptd_iP-1i Mean that on my iX image i know browse internet19:51
jacquesdptd_iP-1now19:52
* jacquesdptd_iP-1 set any settings i want19:52
jacquesdptd_iP-1for sure many things remain to be made that's why i would like to be able to find cool people giving advice, what should we use to have even ligher image etc... We gonna set either Matchbox or Enlightnement19:53
jacquesdptd_iP-1but the system is really working19:53
jacquesdptd_iP-1as if it would be working on a computer19:53
AquinaSorry I still don't understand. When talking about operating systems I have my preferences. Regarding mobile phines and their special hardware requires different systems. I have no preference here. What I wanted to point out however is that Apple has broken and closed systems and is not better than Microsoft or thelike. I stongly recommend to use technically advanced systems like BSD or GNU/Linux.19:54
jacquesdptd_iP-1and without James that began the project and never lost hope19:54
=== bjf is now known as bjf[afk]
jacquesdptd_iP-1and i remind myself a day i told him to come here to ask for help it was for touch screen that we were not able to use, he's got kicked, i can assume, myself to be a bit, straight, but he is really cool, the reason he was kicked was because we've told him, we can't install it on iphone19:55
jacquesdptd_iP-1for sure iphone are some of the hardest phone to be used with third party os's19:56
jacquesdptd_iP-1that's why idroid and now ix are brilliant things19:56
jacquesdptd_iP-1cause planetbeing did an amazing thing reverse enginering every hardware to make unix/linux driver19:56
jacquesdptd_iP-1s19:56
jacquesdptd_iP-1he started from nothing and no documentation19:57
jacquesdptd_iP-1i agree with you that some other device are far more open to be rooted and then used with other open sources project19:58
jacquesdptd_iP-1but or now, except the n900 that i like cause of maemo on it and i find it really cool to have a linux distrib on a phone19:58
jacquesdptd_iP-1Even if think iPhones are great phones to be use with their proper os (iOS) i like what did nokia19:59
jacquesdptd_iP-1and then meego19:59
jacquesdptd_iP-1but i was so much waiting for the first real port of ubuntu on a phone, and i'm really happy that we've made it, on iPhone 3g as i've got an iPhone 4, i'm gonna use it only with third party os's like iX20:00
jacquesdptd_iP-1well that's it, my question was we've started from an ubuntu-minimal rootfs with armel karmic20:00
jacquesdptd_iP-1xfce20:00
jacquesdptd_iP-1and what would you advice as window manager ? Matchbox or e17 ?20:01
jacquesdptd_iP-1even if we gonna try to make both for people to be able to choose then20:01
jacquesdptd_iP-1cause of course, at the moment it's not the fastest system i've been running, but it runs and it's responsive, really20:02
jacquesdptd_iP-1but i'm sure it still can be optimised20:02
ionDoes e17 implement something for mobile devices? If not, definitely not e17.20:02
jacquesdptd_iP-1and you are the poeple that are the most qualified for this20:02
jacquesdptd_iP-1i mean, if i have to find help in ubuntu dev, it should be the right place no ? :)20:02
jacquesdptd_iP-1ion: you mean, no on screen keyboard, no gsm app that's what you mean ?20:03
ionI mean, like matchbox.20:04
jacquesdptd_iP-1cause the goal is also to have a real os running on the phone and to continue to use OS X when using the iPhone as a phone, it's more the fact to have a super little computer20:04
jacquesdptd_iP-1ok20:04
jacquesdptd_iP-1i've checked a bit, but it seems the project of e17 is not evolving that much20:04
jacquesdptd_iP-1maybe matchbox is lot more customizable20:05
jacquesdptd_iP-1but we want to use the port as a computer, sure it will be good if it can also be used to make calls, at least sip ones, but the use is really to have your little ubuntu in your pocket, aircrack , maybe flash lite will be able to run i have good hopes from test i've made for now, and some other stuff20:06
jacquesdptd_iP-1all interesting we can do on a real desktop os that we can't on a mobile one :)20:06
jacquesdptd_iP-1+things20:08
AquinaIs this really Ubuntu on a Phone you're talking about?20:10
Aquinae17 looks nice but is maybe to resouce consumptive.20:10
Aquinacu20:16
jacquesdptd_iP-1yes20:17
jacquesdptd_iP-1i don't know for now20:17
jacquesdptd_iP-1we are using xfce20:17
jacquesdptd_iP-1sorry i was checking the video20:18
jacquesdptd_iP-1dunno if ican deliver a video right now20:18
jacquesdptd_iP-1cause James is the founder, is started the project, and i told him i'll wait till he release the first image, wich he should hve done this afternoon, but i have no news about if it's done or not20:19
jacquesdptd_iP-1i see it normal that first greetingz goes to him cause without him nothing would have been possible, he worked night and days even when people were telling him we couldnt do it20:20
jacquesdptd_iP-1and he was right to do it cause i think its pretty well done and that only the beginning, ok guys i'm gonna ask you just 1 or 2 question, advices, so i can continue to work tonight20:21
jacquesdptd_iP-1i want it to be the lightest as possible, for now it runs, well, i even managed to remote control it from my iphone 4 and to use iphone 4 as mouse and keyboard with hippo remote20:22
jacquesdptd_iP-1that was funny, an iphone to control another20:22
jacquesdptd_iP-1vnc protocol, ssh running perfectly too20:22
jacquesdptd_iP-1but now we gonna have to choose, a good wm, the best interface that would fit to the size, maybe see if we can use evtouch instead of evdev but i didn't manage to make evtouch to work actually, the best internet browser, and check if flash light could run on it, oh also, i'm using onboard for now as on screen keyboard but i'm sure i can find better and i have to find a gesture app in order to have a better experience20:24
jacquesdptd_iP-1i was thinking about building an interface with maximus so we could have icons only in the top taskbar, and all windows maximised20:25
jacquesdptd_iP-1like on ubuntu mid20:25
jacquesdptd_iP-1but i don't know then how to make the keyboard not to be maximised to, and the best would be that the keyboard pops up when touching a form or any text input spot20:26
