[08:41] does* [08:42] nevermind I'm so silly no it doesn't :) [08:43] does anyone really chat in here :s [08:44] xubuntu000, yes, you've been in just 5 minutes. [08:44] just used to other chan's that have text flying [08:45] xubuntu000, many ubuntu-related "tweaks" work in xubuntu, considering they are not gnome-related [08:46] my main question really should have been how do i clean old kernels so my grub doesn't detect them [08:46] just uninstall them from synaptic [08:46] (or any other package manager) [08:47] uname -r then clean all but that one, then it's recommended you keep a safe default as well. [08:47] I am install xubuntu now first time ever. I am just switching from ubuntu after a few years [08:47] ok thank you :) [08:48] if your not building modules / packahes, you cna probably get rid of kernel-headers as well. [08:48] There's a hot too for it, hold on BRB [08:49] i was only asking about ubuntu tweak becuase the ubuntu soft centre [08:49] Hree's on, but be carful not to remove your existing kernel: http://www.foogazi.com/2008/07/02/quickzi-how-to-remove-older-kernels-from-ubuntu/ [08:50] tht helps a lot thankyou [08:50] And another one using Package Manager: http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2007/10/17/remove-ubuntu-kernels-you-dont-need/ [08:51] thankyou :) [08:51] welcome [08:51] Re: Ubuntu-Tweak as knome said, if its not Gnome specific, Tweak works. [08:53] thats good to know : [08:53] :) [08:54] be back soon my install finished a little while ago time to reboot finally :D [08:54] Becareful removing Kernel Images, you can bust things in a hurry if you delete the wrong File. [08:57] I am back :) [08:57] was ubuntu000 [09:02] Poser, I did a test install earlier today, using the Startup Disk Creator + 2GB USB Key, man, the install was much faster than CD or HS ISO's [09:03] Downloading the needed files was about the same, but the rest, "seemed" to go allot faster, I didn't actually time it though. [09:07] yes usb is faster :) I use multiboot iso have my win7/ubuntu/kubuntu/xubuntu and modified ideneb on it [09:08] my cd-rom is so slow loading linux takes longer then windows7 from dvd [09:09] I like XFCE looks kind of like gnome [09:10] I just don't like the Quit button's icon [09:12] Yep same here. DVD/CD rom slow as a dog. I installed a command line only, then added XDM first, then later GDM + xfce4 an lxde works really fast on the old lappy. [09:12] this is linux - everything is changeable... [09:13] If I were to go wiht a signdle Desktop, like xfce or lxde, i'd use xdm, easy, fast + no frills. [09:14] Yeah, its amazing what you can do once you put your mind to it. [09:14] never-ending options, no many at times :-) [09:14] i never used lxde or xdm [09:15] I hadn't either, that's why I tried it. Gonna have a go at a pure FluxBox install as well, see how that pans out. [09:15] i remeber a long time ago using redhat linux I had to config everything but forgot a lot since i stopped using it for a few years [09:16] jolicloud is lightweight but it's to cluttered or me [09:16] suo apt-get is a Gud-Thing :-) [09:16] I think, of the light weight desktops, xfce is pretty hard to beat, especially if you install all the packages. [09:16] if I wanted simple I'd be on my google os partition :p [09:17] Andriod :-) [09:17] lol that too ;) [09:17] only have that via vmware [09:17] well, back to work, Im working on Test-Cases for Xubuntu, man, there's allot for them needed/ [09:18] good chatting with you [09:18] You too. will be around just reading the mail. [09:18] ok [09:18] trying to config xubuntu so I'll be busy for a while [09:21] much better after having chrome installed :) [09:22] chromium has bad adblock [09:22] chrome vs chromium i use chromium mostly but don't notice a differance between the two [09:23] chroumium is open source [09:23] available on repositories iirc [09:23] I do know that :) just for normal use doesn't seem to be differance [09:23] so use the open one :) [09:24] i use chromium usually anyways :) [09:29] Yeah, FireHog is terrible these days. it used to be sweet, but they've boated it to no end now. [09:29] i still like firefox [09:29] I like chroumium too, pretty fast. [09:30] not without adblock [09:30] I like the Features of FF, but man, you have to tweak it do death to get the speed back [09:31] Epiphany is pretty quick fer just a simple browser. [09:31] i like google chromium :) [09:31] can't go back to ffox anymore :p [09:31] Iyeah, chroumium looks really nice. [09:32] rebooting be back shortly [09:32] Do chromium have a PGP decrypt function like FirePGP ? [09:38] hmm.. [09:39] oh there it is :) [09:39] So it does have one ? [09:40] did I miss something? [09:42] tempted to instal haiku again :p [09:42] Maybe so, do you know if Chromium has a PGP decrypt funciton like FirePGP ? I want to try Chromium on Xubuntu so test how well it performs against FF [09:44] https://chrome.google.com/extensions/search?itemlang=&hl=en&q=decrypt [09:45] not sure if that helps [09:49] Maybe that Ecrypter/Decrypter, will have a look at that tnx. [09:50] Well off to bed here I should be on tomorrow again :) [09:51] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8248279 [09:51] ubuntu pgp for chromium install [09:53] think thats more what you are looking for [10:15] hi [13:05] Poser, tnx, that's a good link. I'm doing ISO-testing today, but will dive into that one tomorrow fer sure. [16:05] hey [16:06] whats the default ubuntu video driver? [16:06] (i have nvidia card if this means anything) [16:06] nouveau for nvidia [16:06] isnt it vesa? [16:06] which is generic [16:06] there are all in kernel [16:07] and what is chosen in my case [16:07] vesa is an option, nouveau should be default [16:07] when i use the livecd and right after the instalation [16:07] nouveau is best open [18:20] Hi. What is a 'notebook upgrade bay'? [18:22] http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=216 [18:27] Sysi: Thank you. :-) [18:28] np [19:07] hello [19:07] there are some apps that are not integrated with xfce and look like shit, is there any way to fix that? [19:40] hi [21:11] hi all, is there an easy way to apt-get a highmem kernel? [21:12] sudo apt-get update && apt-get safe-upgrade ? :P [21:13] Sysi: are you asking me? [21:13] yes, how new do you want? [21:13] i dont care if it is newer, would like it to use all the ram i have though [21:14] oh i misunderstood, sorry [21:15] np [21:16] aptitude install linux-image-generic-pae [21:16] nice, ty [21:16] having 4G of ram it is nice to be able to use most of it [21:17] it does use most of it [21:17] if you'd have 6gb or more i'd really recommend 64bit (or pae) [21:18] pae should work ok [21:19] after it is installed that is, in live usb atm [21:45] n8 [22:21] Hi all! [22:24] How do I get access to my /Archie1 and /Archie2 partitions that I created when I installed Xubuntu 10.04?! Currently I can only read it and not able to create folders nor files towards it!!! [22:38] ... [22:40] Looks like I'm not getting an answer to my question here tonight.... I'll try again later! Maybe!!?
