alvinA general question about the usability of KDE. I got an Intel i5 with 4GB ram, a normal 500GB sata disk and an nVidia GT216. Not a slow machine. From time to time, KDE is pretty slow for me and even stops desktop effects. Can it be that all those databases slow the system down? Like akonadi+amarok?13:09

tranquilwatersI have a plasmoid that is lost: it is not on my activity or on the dashboard. It is the google translator plasmoid. I know it's still active because whenever I switch off my internet connection there is a notification that the google translator widget is waiting for a connection. I am running kubuntu lucid with kde4.5 from the ppa. Is there any way to get it back on my activity or close it? Without losing all my other plasma settings?19:33
well_laid_lawntranquilwaters: does it show in   ps aux | grep google   ?19:41

ArGGu^^TranquilWaters You could try remove it from ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc and then logout and login20:55
TranquilWatersthanks I will try that20:56
PsykbrytHey, I have a little question, my computer got a blank screen, after that my wireless won't work. The Network manager was set as "disabled" but I managed to enable it. Now other computers can use the wireless but my laptop isn't getting an IPadress and when I try to connect a window comes up wanting the WEP code. I punch it in but nothing happens.20:57

TranquilWatersnot sure if this applies to your situation, but my network-manager crashes quite often after waking from hibernation on my laptop. eveything in knetworkmanager is greyed out then, en network management is "disabled". I can get it working again by typing this in konsole:21:02
TranquilWaterssudo service network-manager stop21:02
TranquilWaterssudo rm /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.State21:02
TranquilWaterssudo service network-manager start21:02
TranquilWatersit might help in your case?21:02

gddrewis it ok to ask support questions here, or are the forums the preferred place for that?21:13
TranquilWaterswell it says Official Kubuntu support at the op of my window in quassel :)21:14
gddrewWell, yes, I guess it does, doesn't it? :)21:14
TranquilWatersso I suppose it's ok :)21:14
TranquilWaterswhat's your problem?21:14
gddrewI'm at my wits end. I'm running into issues where my distro will stop working and I can't get it back.21:15
gddrewThis has happened on my older IBM ThinkPad laptop, running both Xubuntu and LinuxMint LXDE.21:16
gddrewIt seems that once I change the splash screen resolution to 1024x780, it works for a while and then all of a sudden it doesn't.21:16
gddrewI've reformatted the hard drive and installed Windows XP and that works fine, but when I put a live CD in and reboot I just get a black screen with a blinking cursor.21:17
gddrewI'm really disappointed because I like the Linux a lot.21:18
gddrewI've tried this with Fedora 13 Xfce live cd, lubuntu 10.04, to no avail.21:18
lemalema21:19
fairyhi everyone I'm new here21:19
gddrewThis is the second time this has happened, btw.21:20
