[03:38] is there an alternative to notify-osd around? [07:18] XD [07:18] hello everyone :)) [07:24] anyone? awake? or not busy? [11:38] I have a problem with my computers sound after installing xubuntu. [11:42] what kind of? [11:42] What kind of what? [11:43] what doesn't work, anything? [11:44] The sound isn't playing at all. Its probably because my driver isn't recongnized. [11:44] what sound card? [11:44] Not sure, Whats the command to find that? [11:44] lspci prints all hw [11:45] Alrighty, Now what after I type that? What am I looking for specifically. [11:45] something about sound [11:46] Says nothing about sound,. [11:46] Unless my mind is skipping over it due to being tired, haha. [11:47] lspci | grep -i sound [11:47] Takes me back to desktop:-$ [11:48] lspci | grep "Audio" [11:48] not found :o [11:48] ofc.. [11:48] 00:14.5 Multimedia audio controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 01) [11:49] What now? [11:50] owner, try this post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=365342 [11:50] it's very old, but it might still work [11:51] (you propably already checked everything unmuted etc) [11:51] heh ah yes that too [11:52] Yeh, lol. I checked and made sure its all unmuted. [11:52] Over and Ove.r [11:52] oh didnt see that link. [11:52] brb. [11:53] Which post of that thread should I use? [11:53] I'm half asleep so its all easier with guidance. [11:53] Nevermind, Second post. [11:54] What about auto correction on Firefox? For some reason it doesn't work, but its checked in firefox to auto-spell check. [11:55] sudo: gedit: command not found [11:57] no gedit installed?.. [11:58] replace gedit with mousepad [11:58] ight. [11:59] How can I go about installing gedit, The software center? [11:59] you don't have to [11:59] but if you want, yes just go to the software center thingy and search there [11:59] Ok, Mouspad is now open. Its blank. [12:00] i think the file should be blacklist.confg [12:00] -g [12:00] so blacklist.conf, in that same dir [12:01] sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist is what i typed [12:01] should it have been [12:01] sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.confg [12:01] -g [12:01] sudo mousepad /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf [12:01] my bad, I meant mousepad [12:01] I dont think gedit is installed by default, try nano [12:02] Got it, Should I break after the last part of the line? [12:02] Or just right under the last text. [12:03] put an enter between it [12:03] so it starts on a new line [12:04] then save and reboot and hope for the best [12:04] ok what about the speaker icon? [12:04] On the 2nd post of [12:04] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=365342 [12:04] It says: Double-Click the speaker icon. [12:04] Then do that stuff. But Xubuntu isnt the same setup as ubuntu. [12:05] owner, well that's related to ubuntu, not xubuntu, i would try rebooting first [12:05] ok, ill be back if it doesnt work. [12:05] thanks. [12:05] if you still have problems after that, you can change the settings of the speaker widget [12:08] Guess who is back. lol. [12:08] Did not work. What a shame. :( [16:47] hi. can anyone recommend an nxclient, like nomachine, that works with amd64? [16:49] nomachine has x64 deb on their website [16:49] if i'm getting you right [16:50] i386 binaries should also work, maybe needing library for running them [16:53] thanks [17:15] Sysi, i don't know much about nxclients are there any alternatives to nomachine that you would recommend? [17:15] glib: i don't know anything about them :D [17:15] ok, thanks. [18:55] is there a simple way to test sound on xubuntu ? [19:47] Hi, I was experimenting with different window manager looks, when after applying one, my screen turns black and I get some message about some problems with my AC'97, and that the alsa mixer 1 was removed? Then my comp restarts, and I get to the login screen like usual, but after trying to log in, after some time, I get the same black screen, and I go back to the login screen? Right now I'm using the recovery mode low grap [19:47] hics option so I can actually log in? [19:51] Does anyone know? [19:51] know what? [19:52] MY question? What can I do to log back in normally? [19:53] have you reverted back to the theme before [19:53] I can try that know, but I know that the AC'97 and alsa1 mixer have something to do with sound? So I don't think it's something with the theme [19:54] low graphics mode and black screen are definitely related to graphics/probably themes [19:55] But the message was about alsa1 mixer removed because of the problems? And I never had a problem with the graphics b4? [19:55] i don't know. not having alsa-mixer sure doesn't stop you going to normal graphics mode [20:14] hi [21:15] anyone around ? [21:15] yes [21:15] i`m trying to change the default resolution but all the forums i find say i should edit xorg.conf ..but i dont have that [21:20] any ideas ?:) [21:20] Nepherius: Have you tried /etc/X11/ [21:20] Its in that folder [21:20] Or It should [21:21] I tried sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf but i just get a blank file a new file [21:43] n8 [22:20] bye
