[06:53] good morning all! [06:57] * duanedesign waves to ara [06:57] morning duanedesign [07:11] good morning [07:11] good morning ara, how long did you keep working yesterday? [07:12] morning dholbach [07:12] not too long, around 7:30pm [07:12] and you're up working already again [07:12] Beta really wouldn't be out without you :) [07:12] * dholbach hugs ara [07:57] hey kim0 [07:58] dholbach: hey there [08:01] hey huats [09:43] aloha folks [10:16] hola randa! :) [10:50] hi dholbach [11:43] hello community! === dholbach_ is now known as dholbach [13:49] * nigelb notes its recruiting time! [14:10] dholbach: Yes, a ground control session would be good to do (and easier since it's in the repositories) [14:12] jono and akgra aren't here right now, but I did want to ask if I could do a session entitled: "Tips on interacting with a existing developer community" which would focus more on social and ways to interact and common mistakes. is this an appropriate topic? [14:58] Morning dinda [14:59] Howdy there doctormo! [15:02] dinda: How is the new job going? [15:02] doctormo: very encouraging - the work folks have done is amazing! [15:03] dinda: Cool can you give me a link to any of it? [15:03] doctormo: yes, posted some links on my blog - which I finally got listed on planet [15:05] doctormo, yeah, why not [15:05] doctormo, oh you added a different one already - that one I like too [15:05] dholbach: What I'll do is hold off on the second one and then if there are gaps, I'll do the upstream social one. [15:05] doctormo: how about titling the session : "The appropriate way to say 'Your work Sucks!'" ;) [15:06] doctormo, great [15:08] morning guys and gals [15:08] doctormo: http://dindafoss.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/ubuntu-in-education/ [15:08] Hi paultag [15:08] doctormo: morning, how's things? [15:09] doctormo: saw your email to the UBT ML, thanks :) [15:09] paultag: Oh much better, I'm focusing on other things now :-) [15:10] :) [15:10] Is synaptic still on the default install? [15:14] yup.. [15:14] paultag: ^ [15:15] thanks vish. Any idea when it's going to be removed? [15:15] paultag: well, the plan was to remove for lucid itself ;) [15:16] paultag: but still SC doesnt have all the synaptic goodies [15:16] Hurmm. [15:16] Is there a timeline somewhere? [15:16] or is this being aborted until SC is feature complete? [15:16] paultag: so best guess is Natty ;) [15:16] vish: roger, thanks :) [15:17] vish: Oh, lucid or mav ? [15:17] papertigers: lucid, was the plan.. but every cycle we postpone :) [15:17] Gotcha. [15:18] thanks vish :) [15:18] np.. :) [15:58] 'lo all [16:05] hey duanedesign [16:13] hello mr tag :) [16:16] 'lo [16:16] 'lo all [16:29] nigelb hello! [16:39] heya duanedesign :) [16:40] paultag: http://www.geekosophical.net/?p=507 :P [16:40] Now, thats the ideal reply [16:43] wow, the planned look and feel for the fedora site is NICE! [16:43] http://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/9/95/Wwwfpo-redesign-2010_7-community.png [16:47] nigelb: why do we even waste our time talking about this? [16:48] nigelb: some idiot thinks we're out to get him, I really don't even care about it :) [16:49] paultag: lol, true [16:49] but I think the reply is appropriate [16:50] bbl [16:57] dholbach: just discussing the ubuntu font in #ubuntu+1 [16:57] is it going to need a ffe filed to get it in to 10.10? is the plan to get it there? [16:58] AlanBell, I have no idea - I merely packaged bits up [16:59] any idea where should I file a ffe? [17:00] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess [17:05] bug 629622 [17:05] Launchpad bug 629622 in ubuntu "ffe: new Ubuntu font (affects: 1) (heat: 6)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/629622 [17:07] AlanBell: is it available for everyone now? [17:08] well no, not yet [17:08] but they should probably get the package in, even if empty [17:18] I'm calling it a day - have a great weekend! [17:18] o/ dholbach [17:19] bye AlanBell [17:32] nigelb: the fedora site is looking nice [18:10] aloha [18:15] o/ [18:28] some great articles offering experiences and advice on hosting community events http://tinyurl.com/2734qwc [18:41] all: rocking on wallpapers http://blip.tv/file/4079499 yahoo [18:44] AlanBell: it was brought up in the last release meeting, and iain mentioned it might not be ready.. [18:44] AlanBell: though i dont know if you were asked to file the FFE.. or if there is any new info :) [18:45] hmm , that was about the fonts^ , just incase , /me has a bad habit of replying out of context :) [18:46] vish: I raised it in #ubuntu+1 and was advised to file the ffe because nobody there knew of plans to include it [18:48] AlanBell: yeah, i see you've subscribed iain to the bug , he should probably reply.. but i'm just repeating what happened in the meeting.. :) they discussed this and it was mentioned that mark was not yet fully satisfied or something of the sort.. so they are not yet sure [18:48] and they dint want to commit about the font status yet.. [18:50] reading it now http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2010/08/27/%23ubuntu-meeting.html [19:03] also to note is that Canonical dont own the fonts yet until its 1.0 , the fonts are still dalton mags property for now.. [19:05] vish: yeah, I know about that [19:06] AlanBell: yeah guessed so :) ,just mentioned since sladen changed the bug title :) [19:08] I think the issue is an open public release rather than the specific version number, although open release and 1.0 tend to mean the same thing [19:09] just to be on the final spin it kind of needs to get there somewhat in advance [19:11] thanks for the awesome comment AlanBell [19:12] it was such a good idea, can't think why they didn't actually just do it and get it in to Maverick if they wanted to === james_w` is now known as james_w [19:27] doctormo: odd, i cant reach your blog! [19:27] doctormo: but saw the vid and wow! :) [19:28] could get to blip.tv from liferea... [19:28] vish: :-) It's kinda cute for a demonstration, much more could be done. [19:28] yeah... JUST IMAGINE! :D [19:32] doctormo: what resolution does it render the svg to? [19:33] AlanBell: Anything, I tested it at 640x480, 800x600 and 1250x800, gnome seems to be doing a good job of it. [19:36] AlanBell: But the size of the original svg is 1650x1050 [19:44] yeah, I tried with some svgs which had a small size specified, I think it renders the svg to the pixel size specified in the document properties then stretches that to your screen size [19:45] so my small logo svg looked rubbish scaled from 100px to 2048px even though it is a scaleable graphic in theory [19:49] AlanBell: It's quite easy to pop the svg headers and apply a transform, something that could be done in the gnome wallpaper loading code. [20:37] czajkowski: like that ubuntu logo on your twitter pic (I must be blind, why didn't I see it before!) [20:38] only about a week old I think [20:38] nixternal was tweeting them recently [20:44] Ah, I'm not *that* blind then :D [20:50] nope [20:50] nigelb: see todays pics of wee cousins then [20:51] http://twitpic.com/2kt83d [20:51] czajkowski: omg! cute :) [20:52] she'll be 1 year old in 13 days [20:52] http://twitpic.com/2kucup My goddaughter [20:54] pretty :) [20:54] 6 weeks off her 16th bday [20:54] there are 19 year old boys chatting her up at basketball [20:54] her father is less than impressed [20:55] she's only 16... wow [20:55] * nigelb feels old [20:55] yup [20:55] 15 years between the of us [20:59] I just merged blogs [21:00] I was having one for web development stuff and one for ubuntu, now its just one :) [21:19] Later all, off for the long weekend. [21:19] Toodles [21:19] <--- Sleep [21:19] * nigelb heads to bed too [21:19] night czajkowski [22:15] paultag: How do beginners apply for mentors? [22:39] doctormo: add your name to the BT wiki: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BeginnersTeam/Structure#Mentoring [22:39] there is a "Seeking Mentor" table down a bit [22:39] doctormo in BT o.O [22:39] * nigelb has an out of whack sleep cycle [22:42] nigelb: me too. Been staying up too late working on projects [22:42] nigelb: Mine was like that, I'm only just getting things straight. [22:43] nigelb: Like my new wallpaper? I'm trying to make some other ones, see if I can art it up a bit. [22:43] doctormo: I worked the night yesterday. Slept all morning and went back to work evening. [22:43] Now i should be sleeping, but I'm wide awake [22:43] duanedesign: I feel ya [22:45] doctormo: out of sync with planet, need to catch up [22:47] doctormo: SWEEET! [22:47] wonder if we can have a star studded sky that keeps moving :) [22:48] nigelb: Why not, as long as the movements are infrequent enough [22:49] doctormo: the problem is, it should change, but the change should be apparent [22:49] but then I'm probabl thinking of webshots like application [22:49] how should it change? [22:49] I dunno [22:49] Warning: I may sound incoherent right now, 3 am isn't best of times [22:50] nigelb: http://xkcd.com/320/ [22:50] AlanBell: \o/ [22:52] AlanBell: Totally totally agree with small print there [23:18] AlanBell: thats great. The beauty of being able to make your own schedule [23:18] it is very tempting
