jk_space_, describe your problem in detail and you're more likely to get a response.02:00
space_lol02:01
space_okay02:01
space_one second02:01
space_I'm running the latest version of xubuntu and I am trying to install some software but every time i try to install something from the software center it completes about 90% of the operation and then gives me an error message that says failed package operation. This seems to happen no matter what i try to install.02:04
likemindeadspace_, open Synaptic and check for Broken packages.02:09
space_okay, one sec02:14
space_wow... okay, I forgot to mention I'm a total noob and I have no idea how to check for broken packages02:19
likemindeadThey'd be listed on the left if there were any.02:20
space_oh okay, I guess there aren't any then02:21
likemindeadOkay. Open a Terminal. Enter (without the quotes): "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" then enter your password.02:22
likemindeadAfter it finishes, let us know if there are any errors listed.02:22
space_well, there's quite a bit of information here. Think i found them.02:26
likemindeadErrors?02:27
space_don't suppose i can paste this here can I?02:27
space_there's a lot and i'm not sure what's what02:28
likemindeadUse a pastebin. --> http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/02:28
likemindeadThen copy the link here.02:28
likemindeadAlso, it's Shift+Ctrl+C to copy in a Terminal (or use the mouse).02:29
space_that's cool. here ya go. http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/488538/02:30
likemindeadAre you in a Live CD environment?02:33
space_nope02:36
likemindeadWeird. Anyone else want to chime in on this one?02:39
likemindeadYou should return the repos to the defaults. Somehow, they've been changed. See: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu02:41

BlueEagle10.10 is not even beta at this moment. It's more an alpha imo.09:01
omgh4xwell still09:01
omgh4xit took about 2 minutes to boot after post09:01
BlueEagle!10.1009:02
ubottuMaverick Meerkat is the codename for Ubuntu 10.10, due October 2010 - Maverick is Not released and Not Stable, discussion and support in #ubuntu+109:02
BlueEagleTry that channel instead. :)09:02
omgh4xtry #ubuntu+1?09:03
BlueEagleYes. Since this is a boot issue then #ubuntu+1 would most likely be able to help you as this would not be xfce spesific.09:04
omgh4xok I see thank you09:05
BlueEagleYou're most welcome.09:05

robin-gvx1when doing a recovery boot, i can use the root shell though10:01
Sysithat's lower that x problem10:01
Sysiwhat version, occurred after installing updates?10:02
jjovereatsKick (but not ban) me if you think that getting Compiz to run on Xubuntu is not right.10:03
* jjovereats busywaits10:03
robin-gvx1hm, let's see10:03
robin-gvx1xub 9.1010:04
robin-gvx1i don't think there were any updates recently10:04
robin-gvx1i did fool around a bit with EnvyNG10:04
robin-gvx1but I uninstalled those drivers afterwards10:04
jjovereatsHello. It's morning over here.10:07
jjovereatsAnd, it takes a standard procedure to use Compiz.10:07
Sysijjovereats: hello, this is support channel10:07
Sysiwe're not interested when things actually work10:07
Sysirobin-gvx1: have you tried older kernels?10:08
robin-gvx1i have tried the second kernel in the list10:09

Sysinp :)14:07
userxxx1119999hello all17:14
userxxx1119999would anyone be able to field a n00b question at all?  :)17:16
Sysino if nobody knows it17:16
charlie-tca!question17:16
ubottuPlease don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-)17:16
userxxx1119999Ok ty. I'm trying Xubuntu for the first time, running from a USB stick. In all the other Linux distros I've tried, finding my hard disk has not been an issue. In the other Ubuntu versions it simply appears in Places along with Media and File system etc. I guess the disk is not mounted although Xubuntu can 'see' it for example if I open GParted. Any ideas?  :)17:22
Sysimaybe worst workaround i know is to open mousepad, ctrl+o and mount appearing partitions on sidebar17:25
Sysiuserxxx1119999: live installation images aren't for *really* permanent use, and your drive can appear on next boot17:30
userxxx1119999I see. Well I've been looking for the Linux version that best suits this machine before installing permanently, with Xfce most things seem to work directly 'out of the box', I just hadn't had this particular problem before.17:35
Sysiyou can have gnome, kde and xfce on same machine17:40
userxxx1119999perhaps that kind of setup would be more suited to an advanced user than myself ;)17:42
=== jimisrvrox_ is now known as jimisrvrox
userxxx1119999I've found another potential solution to my problem: there is a 'Mount Devices' applet that can be added to the panel.17:47
userxxx1119999In my case this applet doesn't appear to work, but it might for others.17:48
