arundraculayesterday I 'ndiswrapper -a'  with downloaded rtl8180 driver. After that I removed this driver using the ndiswrapper gtk . And then I typed modprobe rtl8180.07:49
arundraculaThen it showed working07:49
duanedesignarundracula: you shouldnt need ndiswrapper with the native linux driver07:50
arundraculaok07:50
duanedesignarundracula: do you get 0 when you run:  cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward07:50
arundraculaYes07:51
arundraculaI have a linux driver from realtek.07:58
duanedesignarundracula: i am out of ideas. I would try and find the guides you used yesterday and see if you can possibly figure out if maybe one of those modules you loaded with modprobe might be the source of your problem07:59
arundraculaok07:59
arundraculaI have doubts with iptable_bat, nf_nat, ip_tables08:01
arundraculaAlso this /etc/network/interfaces contains this only08:03
arundraculaauto lo08:03
arundraculaiface lo inet loopback08:03
duanedesignmine has08:06
duanedesignauto lo08:06
duanedesigniface lo inet loopback08:06
arundraculaYesterday I've modprobed ndiswrapper and blacklisted bcm43xx.08:07
duanedesignout of the modules you listed I only have ip_tables FWIW08:08
duanedesignalso you might try to grep dmesg to see if that log has any clues. The command would be something like:  dmesg | grep wlan08:10
duanedesignif you still have the ndiswrapper configuration file in /etc/modprobe.d/ you can get rid of that.  sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper08:13
arundracula dmesg | grep wlan returns nothing08:16
arundraculaHow about this? http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=4450560&postcount=1208:20
arundraculaAfter blacklisting all, I am trying  a restart08:24
arundraculaBRB08:25

kimbisI want to install Ubuntu on my laptop that has Windows Vista installed. I don't want to do a dual install, I want to completely irradicate Windows and install Ubuntu. I have downloaded Ubuntu desktop to a USB stick and backed up my files to an external harddrive. How do I know my laptop can handle Ubuntu and are there instructions on how to start with formating my harddrive and installing from the stick?16:48
hobgoblinkimbis: assuming that the usb booted - check that everything that you need to work does so. Once you are sure that you want to proceed start the installer that is on the desktop. When you reach the partition stage choose use whole disk and vista will be wiped and ubuntu will install using the WHOLE disk16:50
kimbisI have two partitions, will that mess things up?16:51
hobgoblinkimbis: it will use the whole disk - any existing partitions will be deleted and then the disk will be reformatted.16:52
hobgoblinmay I ask why you don't want to start with a dualboot?16:52
kimbisI've used other Linux programs before and loved them. I only have Vista on this laptop because it came that way. I needed a computer quickly when the last one died and I've been too lazy to switch. I really can't stand having Windows.16:53
hobgoblinaah - k - just making sure it was not some sort of reason that isn't a real one :)16:54
hobgoblinthen I would go ahead - make sure there are no known issues - try a search of the forum maybe for the make/model and also read the release notes16:55
kimbisI feel stupid, but I didn't see any specifications for installing it. I looked at the laptop page and it wasn't listed there.16:55
hobgoblinkimbis: which are here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidLynx/ReleaseNotes16:55
hobgoblinkimbis: what make/model is it and what laptop page is that?16:55
kimbisIt was a page coming from the Ubuntu page...a link I found there. I have an Aspire 5100 (yeah, it's a piece...ha ha!)16:56
kimbisI'm thinking perhaps I should have it on both CD and stick or?16:57
hobgoblinwell I would be the wrong person to ask - I don't possess a stick at all lol16:58
hobgoblinbut it is worth having a cd I would guess16:58
kimbisIt can't hurt to have both I suppose. Thanks for the help! :-D17:00
Mohan_chmlHey hobgoblin =]17:01
hobgoblinkimbis: you're welcome - don't forget when you are in the livecd and assuming you have net you can come back and ask if you need to17:01
