cwryuuJust because I haven't done it before, the Maverick install CD can read eSata drives right? I can fallback on USB2.0 if I need to.00:06
penguin42cwryuu: I'd expect it to00:08
penguin42cwryuu: You occasionally hit problems with eSATA stuff, but it's pretty rare because it mostly just looks like SATA00:08
cwryuupenguin42: thank you, that's what I needed to know00:09
Jay-ok so i rebooted 10.10 and chose a different kernal in grub and my ralink wireless card now works00:30
Jay-just in case anyone was here for that discussion00:32
penguin42Jay-: Perhaps it hasn't rebuilt the module for the new one?00:33
Jay-perhaps? i dunno... all i know is it works now so that is good00:33
yofelpenguin42: we were talking about the built-in rt2860sta module00:34
penguin42oh ok00:35
Jay-at least it performs better then kubuntu that won't let me log in after i update it00:35
yofelouch00:35
Jay-lol yeah got the log in screen kde started to load and then it booted me right back to the login screen... i gave up that00:35
yofelI heard of that...00:36
Jay-was thinking of trying something different and hadn't run kde since 4.100:37
Jay-but i'm happy i got it running00:38
yofelworks fine for me and works fine usually, but I did hear people comlaining about not being able to login recentlly, can't remember what the issue was though00:38
Jay-yeah fresh install and just ran the updater00:39

cwryuuhmm, I had this weird issue during Maverick install. My laptop has an SD Card reader which had the SD Card for my camera in it. During the grub install it tried to put the bootloader on that instead of the actual disk05:22
Jordan_Ucwryuu: Please file a bug report. It's intentional that grub isn't always intalled to the same drive as the rest of Ubuntu (as the Ubuntu devs think it's safer to intall to the first drive as that's the one the BIOS will likely try to boot from).05:39
Jordan_Ucwryuu: But it should never install to an SD card, unless you also are installing Ubuntu to that same SD card.05:39
DanaGHeh, Unity is awesome... it gives me a screen full of garbage.06:01
DanaGLike, random bits of video memory chopped into tiny pieces and smeared all over the desktop.06:01
DanaGOh, and the wallpaper has been de-pukified -- cool.06:02
DanaGNow the purple stock wallpaper is rather pleasant.  Still looks like it has a "ridge" going down the middle of the screen, though.06:02
DanaGLike somebody ran over my screen.06:02
DanaGAh, that garbage is on fglrx.... on my netbook, unity instead just hangs.06:03

WillWork4Foohi all... anyone about?19:54
BUGabundono19:59
vishno one20:01
WillWork4Fooclearly not. I am wondering if I'm the only one (doubt it) that can't get 10.10beta booting on my netbook?20:06
penguin42WillWork4Foo: Various people have had problems - which particular problem have you had?20:08
WillWork4Foo I've tried using unetbootin and the universal USB installer recommended by Ubuntu's site. When I boot from USB on 10.10beta, it just hangs. Really really early in the boot process.20:09
WillWork4FooExactly the same USB stick, same programs, same netbook with 10.04 and 10.04.1 - no problems at all, boots straight up20:09
penguin42WillWork4Foo: Any debug or just a black screen?20:10
WillWork4Foono debug whatsoever.20:10
WillWork4Foofeels like it's doing it right when it passes from the bootstrap over to the kernel20:10
WillWork4FooI get the ISOLINUX stuff, but then when I expect the bootloader menu to appear, it doesn't.20:11
penguin42WillWork4Foo: Now I can't remember the thumb drive boot sequence, but if you can try removing the quiet nosplash off the kernel line then you might get some, you can also try some options like nomodeset20:11
WillWork4Foopenguin42, I'll give that a try. Hopefully the final release won't have these problems! Bit of a step backwards if 10.04 will install but 10.10 won't!20:11
penguin42WillWork4Foo: Indeed, there are still plenty of problems - but make sure you report the bug, if no one knows it's broke it can't get fixed20:12
WillWork4Foopenguin42, where's the best place to report that?20:12
penguin42WillWork4Foo: Probably the best is if 10.04 works then from that run ubuntu-bug ubiquity     and then report the bug against Maverick - ubiquity is the installer and I think is the place to put early hangs from the installer20:13
bullgard4bjsnider: No sir. I'd like to know how it looks in your Maverick. How it looks in my computer, I already know. And a local computer friend told me that his display image looks quite differently. So I want to know if my configuration is at fault or his.20:14

Seven_Six_TwoI've got 2 10.10 x86-32 boxes and 2 10.10 x86-64 laptops. I'd like them to share update downloads. What is the easiest way?23:02
ajmitchls -la23:02
MarkDudeDAmn missed Wubi23:03
cwilluSeven_Six_Two, you'd need 32bit installs on all of them;  there are some packages which are shared between both arches, but I'd expect the bulk of the space to be arch dependent packages23:03
Seven_Six_Twocwillu, would they not separate like they do on the mirror? Even if they went to the same place, they would still have a different name. Or is it some index file that would cause probs?23:04
Seven_Six_Twook, so if we assume they're all 32 bit, what would be suggested?23:05
cwillusetting up a mirror of some kind;  apt-cacher23:06
