[00:34] is wineasio working in 10.10? [00:34] Im trying to use reaper and it freezes with winesasio [13:25] hi, i see that there is 3 kinds of kernels: generic, low latency and real time... which is the best one to use for record live events? real time? [13:26] low-latency [13:27] realtime theoretically lets you get slightly tighter timings, but at the expense of support levels (not the same kernel version). [13:28] ok.. why is installed the default one instead of the low latency if it's better ? [13:28] If you're recording a live event, you're probably not that concerned about per-track sample-accurate synchronisation (you're either going to remix in a studio, or you're recording flattened channels not intended for distribution), so it doesn't matter that it takes a bit of time to get from line-in to disk. [13:29] low latency requires more power, so reduces battery life, increases electrical bills, etc. Lots of people don't need it. [13:31] ok [14:56] I need some help with plymouth in ubuntu 10.04 [14:56] need to know how to increase the colors in plymouth instead of the 4 color [14:56] if anyone knows how i can do this [14:57] sinman: I really dont know [14:58] rlameiro: thanxs [14:58] ScottL: made the plymouth boot up sequence when it was needed, maybe he can help you there [14:58] sinman: are you trying to make a bootup sequence? [14:58] let me dig scotts blog [14:59] maybe he have some links there [14:59] no I had change the plymouth screen from the default to one of the alternate i installed and the colors look terrible, need to increase the colors [15:01] did you searched in the ubntu forums? [15:01] sometimes people discuss stuff about it there [15:03] if i can get any help in irc that's my next step, already searching with google but not having any luck [15:06] sinman, this is the blog that i follow to create the first plymouth theme -> http://brej.org/blog/?p=158 [15:06] but i have to admit, the plymouth theme that i created was a hack and not very good [15:07] cory is working on a new plymouth theme that rocks for 10.10 however [15:08] kewl [15:08] a note on the blog i linked: the author is working with fedora (or red hat) so there may be some differences, but overall concepts should certainly be consistent [15:08] k [15:09] thanks ScottL, i didnt found it :D [15:09] ScottL: did you noticed the iso testing mail? [15:09] there is some fglrx failing yet, will it be safe to install it? [15:11] rlameiro, astraljava and i were talking about it, he commented that since he had an nVidia card it probably wouldn't stop his installation [15:11] ScottL: well, i have a intel, so i think it is not a problem either [15:12] fglrx is for ati isnt it? [15:14] i don't really know, but i *think* so [15:15] i don't usually trick out the video on my machines since the default usually handles my needs [15:15] the result is that i am still rather ignorant about video considerations [17:41] hello everyone, how is it going 10.04? i wasnt that happy with9.04.. still with 8.04, any major changes to 10 ? [17:41] hey dtcrshr [17:41] lots of changes [17:41] grub2 [17:41] plymouth [17:42] ext4 came along [17:42] all kinds of updated software of course [17:42] what did you not like about 9.04? [17:58] i use most for studio recording and radio casts... some live effects like jackrack, zynaddsubfs locked [17:59] but i did a dist upgrade... i thing i should have done a fresh install [18:01] dtcrshr: you might want to do the fresh install [18:02] it'll be fine though [18:04] rakarrack is in the repos now :) [18:05] guitarix is coming soon [18:07] was it the default kernel issue with 9.04 ? [18:08] dtcrshr: you'll want to install the low latency kernel at least [18:08] probably [18:20] you mean the rt kernel? [18:20] well, im really considering reinstalling 10.04, since i got /home separated [18:20] there is a linux-rt as well [18:20] but its the one from karmic [18:21] 9.10 [18:21] hmm [18:21] linux-lowlatency [18:21] ^^ thats the way its going [18:22] there are a couple PPA's that have the RT kernel [18:22] whats the diff btween low latency and rt ? [18:22] https://launchpad.net/~abogani/+archive/ppa [18:23] https://launchpad.net/~falk-t-j/+archive/lucid [18:23] * holstein uses http://ubuntu-tweak.com/ [18:23] there is a PPA purge option [18:24] dtcrshr: im not sure about the technical differences [18:24] the RT one is not good for laptops [18:24] managing power consumption [18:24] hmm [18:24] well, on the notebook i use a regular ubuntu, 10.04 is fine [18:24] 08:27 < persia> realtime theoretically lets you get slightly tighter timings, but at the expense of support levels (not the same kernel version). [18:25] dtcrshr: OH [18:25] well ubuntu = ubuntustudio [18:25] but on the ubuntstudio workstation im with 804 [18:25] you can search the repos on your notebook [18:25] i use the notebook to record live shows, using a maudio fastrack [18:25] but didnt install many more software then i need [18:25] cool [18:25] its a crappy oldschool hp [18:26] cd2, 512 ram [18:26] 40gb hd [18:26] thatll do it :) [18:26] funny to watch the mac users droll when they see the confs and what i do with ubuntu on this lap [18:26] :) [18:26] yeah? [18:26] the mac guys i know still think its ugly ;) [18:27] i bet so [18:27] but here in brasil most mac users i dropped dont know much how to use i think [18:27] i got one friend that is coming around a bit [18:27] just the basics, too much pirate software [18:27] he's finally convinced that his mac doesnt require an apple airport to connect to the internet ;) [18:28] and ive installed JACK and ardour on his apple machine [18:30] jack is THE tool [18:30] you might want to check out... [18:31] http://opensourcemusician.libsyn.com/ [18:31] #opensourcemusicians [18:31] http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/ [18:31] thats falktx's lucid KDE based distro^^ [18:32] you can kinda see how lucid is with your hardware running that live [18:33] hmm very nice [18:33] ill go lunch [18:34] laterx :) [19:06] ! [19:07] ? [19:08] problems with jack controlX-( [19:09] yeah? [19:09] azat: does jack start? [19:09] did it ever start? [19:11] я нажимаю на значок программы но выдает ошибку [19:11] I click the program icon, but an error [19:13] what error? [19:13] what icon? [19:13] I just tested todays iso, LP #642405 is fixed [19:13] Launchpad bug 642405 in Ubuntu Studio "package conflict (foomatic-db / foomatic-db-compressed-ppds) causes Ubuntu Studio installation to fail" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/642405 [19:13] I long ago changed the settings in it and stuff and now is the time delay increased significantly ... can I completely remove the jack control and again to put it? [19:13] Could not load patchbay definition file: [19:14] "/home/azat/111.xml" [19:14] it is first then... [19:14] Could not connect to JACK server as client. [19:14] - Overall operation failed. [19:14] - Unable to connect to server. [19:14] Please check the messages window for more info [19:16] I'm testing the good ol' patched Network configuration tool; I'm unable to set up a wire connection [19:16] anyone here able to do it? [19:16] ronj: thanks for checking in on those iso's :) [19:17] yw [19:17] ronj: Cool! It's installing now? I'll try tomorrow. :) [19:17] yes [19:18] getting rid of networkmanager is new to this release, isn't it? [19:18] ronj: only time i had wired network issues in the past [19:18] i had hardware issues [19:19] incompatible nic or bad one [19:19] holstein, not the case, it's a dell with an intel card, i have no problem setting the connection with networkmanager in ubuntu vanilla [19:20] hmmm [19:20] holstein, going to test the command-line way and see if this works [19:20] i know something was tweaked [19:20] yup [19:20] to get the wifi to work [19:20] nows the time to sort it out :) [19:20] and I read ScottL asking for testing on this specific component [19:20] so I'm having a look [19:20] AGAIN.. thanks for being ontop of it :) [19:21] ronj: NetworkManager has never been in Ubuntu Studio, AFAIK. [19:21] ok [19:22] azat: what changes did you make? [19:22] azat: launch jackcontrol [19:22] DONT start jack [19:23] click 'setup' [19:23] astraljava, I used to never install from the iso but with a vanilla ubuntu + ubustu metapackages but ScottL mentions about "the interest of the iso isn't only what we install, but also what we don't" changed my mind [19:23] and lets look at those settings [19:24] ronj: yeah, network manager is a good one [19:24] if you dont need it [19:24] it can cause some issues [19:26] ronj: Good point. [19:29] ok so Network works, _but_ changes are not automatically applied, I had to do a sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart [19:29] OH yeah [19:29] is this expected?! [19:29] that sounds right [19:29] away for a while ... soon I'll be [19:29] its not going to be like network manager [19:29] * holstein gotta run :) [19:29] laterx [19:29] sure, but I shouldn't have to restart via commandline [19:30] k; will ask the mailing list [19:59] K [20:01] Huh?? Why isnt anyone saying anything? [20:02] Cant see any conversation going on. Wierd :-/ [20:14] Why do people always assume there's constant chatter going on? [20:55] astraljava: ... no coments :D [20:56] me going to test the new iso, cya in 20/30 minutes :D [22:49] hello. [22:49] anyone have any experience with presonus firebox on ffado? [22:50] holstein: might have [23:33] Anyone using winesasio and 10.10?
