[02:12] Hi [02:13] I was wondering if there are any audio drivers for the DigiDesign Mbox 1 avaliable for Ubuntu? At the moment I'm using the Ploytec drivers on Windows and they work great but I want to move over to UbuntuStudio and use it with Ardour [02:15] Looks like there is work-in-progress for it (http://www.zamaudio.com/?p=97) but I'm unsure if it's in the Ubuntu kernels. [02:15] hmm thats for the Mbox 2 unfortunatly [02:16] Hum. Dunno then. You'll want to search. [02:17] alright been trying, not found anything [02:18] figured there might be some others, Digidesign recently dropped Mbox 1 support in their latest Pro Tools patch [02:18] meaning there's no official windows 7 support for the mbox 1 [02:19] Oh lovely :( [02:20] yep, gotta love proprietary software/hardware combos :P [03:00] where is the best place to make a support forum post regarding Ubuntu Studio? [03:02] For what kind of support? [03:03] I'm sure the answer is somewhere in forums.ubuntu.com, but more specifically is tricky, and if you're looking for application support for some of the more specific applications, there are some more well-targeted application-specific fora [03:05] well I just wanted to post the question I asked here about the mbox 1, just wanted to know the best place [03:05] seeing as it's a very audio-person kinda specific question [03:06] the mbox isn't a general piece of hardware a lot of people have [03:12] I'd probably add it to "Hardware & Laptops" or "Ubuntu Studio" at forums.ubuntu.com, but somewhere more general (you're looking for an ALSA driver) might be better. [03:24] alright thanks [17:28] is ubuntustudio taking any past in the RC release? [17:29] hmmm [17:29] you mean, is ubuntustudio in feature freeze? [17:30] ubuntu is, and i assume the official derivatives need to stick to that too [17:53] I'm having a slight problem, not getting the graphical login, instead i have to login at the command prompt username/password then once logged in i have to type startx everytime. how can i fix this [17:53] lucid? [17:53] is this ubuntustudio? [17:53] or the vanilla install with the packages added? [17:53] yes using ubuntu 10.04 lucid [17:54] i would look at the login theme [17:54] try changing it or reinstalling it [17:54] k [17:54] i think changing it to another one would tell you something [17:54] if it works or not [17:55] sinman: did you install KDE ? [17:55] no using gnome [17:55] yeah, sounds like a little glitch [17:56] it was working fine up until couple days ago when it started with th ecommand prompt login [17:57] sinman: try updating first as well [17:57] how would i get X to start again on bootup, i think X got turned off somehow [17:57] maybe that will just fix it [17:57] I'm completly updated [17:58] hmmm [17:59] is there a way to get X to start when the computer starts [17:59] http://tech.akom.net/archives/46-Disabling-X-server-autostart-gdm-on-Ubuntu-Karmic-9.10.html [17:59] ^^ thats backwards [17:59] and for karmic [17:59] but i would think it would be similar [18:00] k i'll check it out and see what happens [18:03] I'm not seeing runlevel I see "stop on runlevel [016]" [18:04] hmmm [18:04] we need an X guy [18:04] i remember dealing with that before [18:04] and i forget how [18:05] i think i ended up reinstalling for other reasons before i sorted that out [18:05] I'm on the verge of doing that myself, but want to try to fix first before i do that [18:05] nah [18:06] somebody will know [18:06] you should check logs too [18:06] and im not sure which ones [18:06] i ask everything over in #opensourcemusicians anyways ;) [18:06] you got a good loco channel? [18:06] asking in the #ubuntu channel to see if someone knows how I can change the runlevel [18:07] http://loco.ubuntu.com/ [18:07] and #ubuntu-beginners [18:07] #ubuntu can be challenging [18:07] yes it can be [18:07] I'll check the beginners channel [18:27] hi... i've finally installed ubuntu studio + the m-audio fast track ultra audio card....it's recognized (lsusb and jack)... but it doesn't play :( [18:27] (running 10.10beta) [18:28] hey mika__ [18:29] does JACK start? [18:29] is it using the maudio for certain? [18:33] when i try to start jack it says could not connect to jack server as client: overall option failed ; unable to connect to server [18:33] AH [18:33] (i opened qjackctl) [18:34] so JACK is not recognizing the maudio [18:34] maybe [18:34] in jackcontrol [18:34] you'll need to select the maudio [18:34] in the config i'm able to select the card as input and output device (with the > button) [18:34] OK [18:34] uncheck the realtime box [18:34] (and it recognize it as it says: hw:1 fast track ultra) [18:34] already did [18:34] make sure your in the audio group [18:35] and go for it [18:36] i'm part of the audio group [18:36] you can try sudo qjackctl [18:36] see if it starts that way [18:36] same [18:37] did it work in lucid? [18:37] didn't tried [18:37] i installed directly maverick [18:38] in the ubuntu sound preferences under the hardware tab it doesn't find any card [18:38] and in the output i've just a dummy output [18:39] http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/ [18:39] i would try ^^ [18:39] live [18:39] thats basically lucid live [18:40] cool [18:40] you can... [18:40] btw i don't think it'll work under 10.4 :( [18:40] http://paste.ubuntu.com/ [18:41] your jack log [18:41] mika__: what makes you say that? [18:41] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=846717&page=2 [18:41] I used Ubuntu 10.10 beta, and simply plugged the device in, and within audacity set the interface to ALSA and the record and playback device to the M-audio option. By default the 8r handles audio at 48KHz, so don't forget to change your project sample rate. [18:42] here he say it worked immediately with 10.10 (it's another model.. more professional, but the basic should be the same..) [18:42] nah [18:42] it doesnt have to be [18:42] the models can have quite different chipsets [18:42] (the problem is also that on that pc i don't have internet because the cable doesn't work and i haven't the wifi on it :( ) [18:42] ok [18:43] http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Vendor-MAudio [18:43] theres an alsa update script [18:45] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810#post6589810 [18:46] i dont see the fast track ultra [18:46] on 10.10 is already the 1.0.23 [18:46] cool [18:47] i would hang out over in #opensourcemusicians [18:47] and ask [18:47] somebody over there might have one [18:47] i would let maudio know about it [18:47] and maybe email the list [18:48] ok
