phillwhiyas good people, sorry to be back in nagging / asking. I'd like to create #lubuntu-chat to be a seperate room from #lubuntu which is our support channel, could someone point me to the directions to do so?02:16
pleia2phillw: typically the social channels are named #*buntu-offtopic02:25
pleia2rather than -chat02:25
pleia2but you go about it with /msg chanserv help register02:25
pleia2:)02:25
phillwhiyas pleia2 :-D  can I create #lubuntu-offtopic then ?02:25
pleia2go for it02:25

phillwpleia2: The channel #lubuntu-offtopic must exist in order to register it.   :'(02:27
pleia2phillw: you have to join it first :)02:28
pleia2joining it creates the channel, then you register it to keep it around02:28

phillwahh..... thanks... I'm not into IRC admin stuff ;-)02:29
pleia2sure thing02:29
pleia2might want to recruit some lubuntu folks who know more about IRC to help you admin the channel though, hopefully some of them can walk you through adding additional ops and things02:29
pleia2(we could help, of course, but best to have some clueful folks on the access list)02:30

bazhangand get ircc approval02:30
pleia2you need ircc approval to make new channels now?02:31
bazhangnamespace ones?02:31
phillwpleia2: dropping #lubuntu-offtopic and using ##lubuntu-offtopic instead. ????02:31
pleia2bazhang: I've never gotten permission :\02:31
pleia2I didn't think we needed it, I thought the ircc only got involved if there was a problem02:31
bazhangbetter check with the ircc and #lubuntu folks02:32
pleia2phillw is a #lubuntu folk :)02:32
pleia2he's one of the channel ops02:32
phillwpleia2: I'm an OP on #lubuntu, just not a founder - do I need to get a founder to create the room02:32
phillw?02:32
pleia2phillw: anyone can be a founder, might just want to run it by hyperair to be sure it's ok02:33
bazhangshould be okay then02:33
pleia2but I don't see a problem02:33
bazhangbest to follow the niceties02:33
phillwI hate having to nag hyperair all the time; I got him to add the irc people on last night as emergency ops.... :-(02:34
pleia2well, as long as the lubuntu team wants a chat channel I don't see a problem with moving forward02:35
pleia2it can always be reversed if there is a problem02:35
phillwdocumentation and room / bots / logging bots / etc was allocated to me. But........ I will go peck him for "official approval" .... ::sigh::02:35
pleia2sounds like it's fine for you to handle it :)02:36
phillwpleia2: if hyperair or gilir ever had a problem, I'd get my ass spanked in public ;)02:36
pleia2hah02:37
pleia2how is lubuntu doing anyway?02:37
phillwwe're on the beta2, it's going well. canonical have now admitted that they do not have a method for adopting a new member and are going to write one up. This is one of the reasons I'm scurrying around behind the scenes getting the docs moved over, log bots installed etc.02:39
pleia2nice02:39
phillwI'd like to put on record in here that the amount of help you all have given this young project is way beyond your call of duty.02:40
nhandler#lubuntu currently is not part of the Ubuntu namespace. So really, the IRCC currently has no control/say about those channels. But best practice is to get the ACK from the founder of #foo before creating #foo-bar03:16
phillwnhandler: as well you, and everyone else who knows me, I'm deeply involved in lubuntu. But, I will go pester hyperair..... :sigh::.03:20

hyperairhello. can i request that #lubuntu-offtopic be populated with the same bots that populates #lubuntu?04:51
hyperairi believe phillw requested for it, but was told that he needs the +f flag on #lubuntu or something?04:52
rwwjussi: request for addition of ubot5 to #lubuntu-offtopic ^^^04:53
hyperairand by the way, i've just given phillw full founder access over #lubuntu. i believe he deserves it, for all he's done in #lubuntu.04:54
rwwhyperair: The person in charge of ubot5 lives in Europe, so it'll probably be a while before they get that message. The other bot in #lubuntu is ubuntulog; 1) offtopic channels aren't generally logged, 2) you'd have to email rt@ubuntu.com if you did want it to be.04:55
rww(since ubuntulog is controlled by Canonical)04:56
hyperairalright. i think ubot5 will do for the time being.04:56
hyperairi'll ask phillw if he wants it logged.04:57
Mohan_chmlhyperair: Offtopic is not to get logged04:57
hyperairwell that's fine then.04:58
hyperairhi Mohan_chml =)04:58
Mohan_chmlhey hyperair (:04:58
ubot5hyperair called the ops in #lubuntu ()05:01
hyperairthat was a test, heh.05:01

sbcHey everyone. I'm having problems connecting to irc.ubuntu.com, but have no problem connecting to irc.freenode. Is this a known issue, or is it some sort of problem in my end? It seems to have appeared within the last couple of days.10:03
rwwsbc: theoretically, you shouldn't. irc.ubuntu.com points to the same IP addresses as chat.freenode.net10:05
rwwany useful error messages?10:05
sbcrww: From my xchat:10:06
sbc Looking up irc.ubuntu.com..10:06
sbc Connecting to irc.ubuntu.com (85.94.204.146) port 6667..10:06
sbc Connection failed. Error: Connection refused10:06
sbcLooking up irc.freenode.net..10:06
sbc Connecting to chat.freenode.net (213.232.93.3) port 6667..10:06
sbc Connected. Now logging in..10:06
rwwsbc: run "dig irc.ubuntu.com" in the terminal, copy the output to http://paste.ubuntu.com/, link the page it creates here.10:07
sbcrww: http://paste.ubuntu.com/504985/10:08
rwwsbc: odd. the correct output looks something like this: http://paste.ubuntu.com/504986/10:12
sbcrww: strange. Well, my problem is solved now by using irc.freenode. But it would be nice to know if it is something strange with my setup or isp, or if there is some general problem somewhere...10:14
sbcrww: Thanks though.10:14
rwwsbc: according to Google, you're not the only one. I haven't found any reasons why yet, though.10:15

bilalakhtarHow do I become an op for #ubuntu-release-party?14:10
bilalakhtargarr, have to go now, sorry14:12
phillwhiyas everyone, the irc staffers have op access to #lubuntu-offtopic, I've included the TOS in the topic.14:53

phillwnhandler: that's what I thought I had done, the +votiA flag bit? If you give me the command, I'l try again16:02
IdleOneany ubuntu-ru ops around?21:01
guntbertIdleOne: I don't see him on the ban list - maybe he tries ubuntu-ru instead of #ubuntu-ru?21:05
IdleOnemaybe21:05
guntbertIdleOne: did you forget to deop?21:08
IdleOneI did :)21:08
IdleOnethank you21:09
IdleOnenext time you should just op yourself and kick me :)21:09
marienz1/8021:10
marienzerr21:10
guntbertIdleOne: cannot :-)21:10
IdleOneguntbert: something that needs to be remedied :)21:10
* IdleOne votes for guntbert to be core channel op21:10
guntbertIdleOne: thx, but I won't apply - nice of you though :-)21:11
IdleOnehaha, smart of you21:11
IdleOneI think a few trusted half-ops would be good21:12
IdleOneability to ask a bot to remove/quiet, that sort of thing21:13
guntbertIdleOne: hm... I for myself wouldn't want that either - and regarding how hard it sometimes is to find agreement between (few) ops  imagine how that would be between (more) half-ops21:18
