[00:38] hi all === FireCrotch_ is now known as FireCrotch [15:20] <[Damaskinos]> salve ubuntu studio non รจ anche in versione live per provarla? [18:54] hello everybody! [18:55] dludldin: hello :) [18:56] right know tuxguitar is working fine with me but i had problems to get it ok [18:57] do share [19:00] at this moment im making an update perhaps this could solve the problem but anyway if don't i guess that tuxguitar 1.1 and 1.2 have problems with java synth [19:01] OH [19:01] i remember tuxguitar now [19:01] i dont need tablature [19:01] SO i just kinda opened it up [19:01] when java synth is enabled tuxguitar takes its time to run apox 1minute maybe less [19:01] maybe in karmic? [19:01] is that for monitoring? [19:02] i would probably just route tuxguitar to whatever synth i want to use [19:02] in JACK [19:02] assuming it has proper JACK support [19:02] i did not try that [19:02] jack is another one that gave me issues too [19:03] how so? [19:03] that is kinda the 'heart' of the linux audio system [19:04] for what i can remember first time i installed jack was in a fluydsynt plugin to tuxguitar that consequently had to install jack [19:04] sounds right [19:05] dont know if jack works i havent tested yet [19:06] again, thats really the center of it all [19:06] learning JACK [19:06] and getting it running properly is key [19:07] after solving jack's non starting problem i havent tested at least it runs know [19:07] you dont have to, but its SO handy [19:07] and like your situation [19:07] when you need to route a synth from something like tuxguitar [19:07] you just make the connection in JACK [19:09] is it 0.4% at jack o.k.? [19:09] well, what are your settings? [19:09] did you start from 'jack control'? [19:10] yes [19:11] so, click on setup [19:12] the 'settings' tab [19:12] you using the alsa driver with an internal sound card? [19:12] yap [19:12] OK [19:12] in the lower right [19:12] what is the latency? [19:13] in msec ? [19:13] 46.4 [19:13] 46.4 msec [19:13] OK [19:13] thats decent for an internal card [19:14] you see in the middle there? [19:14] sample rate? [19:14] i set that, and suggest that be set to 41000 [19:14] above and below that [19:14] frames/period [19:14] 44100 [19:14] and period/buffers [19:14] those are the 2 settings we 'tweak' [19:14] to effect the latency [19:15] you might not need the latency to be lower [19:15] IF [19:15] 1024 2 [19:15] when you run programs [19:15] you get xruns [19:15] you can come here and change those settings [19:15] raise them [19:15] maybe to [19:15] 1024 3 [19:15] that kind of tweak will increase your latency [19:16] potentially fixing that xrun issue [19:16] IF you have the issue [19:16] the only reason to need super low latency [19:16] is if you are doing live effects processing [19:16] SAY, you got your guitar plugged in to your sound card [19:16] you route that in JACK to rakarrack [19:17] and out to your sound card [19:17] you play your guitar [19:17] and 46ms later [19:17] you hear the effected signal [19:17] thats not too good [19:17] OR [19:17] i have to test it if it sounds good [19:17] if you have a midi synth plugged in [19:17] you'll play a note [19:18] and 46ms later [19:18] you hear the sound you have selected [19:18] again, probably unwanted [19:18] IF you dont have these 'realtime' requirements [19:18] then, dont sweat it [19:19] do you know if these three messages are bad sh: artsshell: not found ,JACK: unable to mlock() port buffers: Cannot allocate memory, cannot lock down memory for RT thread [19:20] yeah [19:20] JACK is not running then [19:20] is this lucid? [19:20] 10.04? [19:20] yes [19:20] in 'setup' [19:21] see the checkbox for realtime? [19:21] yap [19:21] uncheck that if its checked [19:21] then say 'ok' [19:21] and close jack control [19:21] open a terminal [19:21] and type [19:21] sudo adduser dludldin audio [19:22] ^^ assuming dludldin is the username on your box [19:22] i would type [19:22] sudo adduser holstein audio [19:25] right know only get a possible bad message sh: artsshell: not found [19:27] AH [19:27] progress [19:27] close jackcontrol [19:27] open a terminal [19:27] and typr [19:27] type* [19:27] sudo qjackctl [19:28] and see if JACK starts [19:28] then we'll talk about trouble shooting further [19:30] in terminal i get suspending pulse audio and in jack messages 19:28:45.722 Patchbay deactivated. [19:30] 19:28:45.832 Statistics reset. [19:30] 19:28:45.871 ALSA connection graph change. [19:30] 19:28:46.125 ALSA connection change. [19:30] OK [19:30] is JACK running though? [19:30] no [19:30] says 'stopped' [19:30] in the main window? [19:31] yes [19:31] hmmm [19:31] internal card makes sound otherwise? [19:31] give me three or four minutes holstein [19:31] sure [19:37] hi again [19:38] :) [19:38] well i can hear mp3 when jack is not running [19:39] OK [19:39] thats good [19:39] open in terminal [19:40] sudo qjackctl [19:40] and lets look at your settings again [19:40] in 'setup' [19:40] on the right column [19:40] what is under 'interface' ? [19:40] default? [19:42] yes [19:42] hmmm [19:42] try hitting start again [19:42] as root [19:42] and see what it says [19:46] as root says starting then goes black and white and im not able to close it [19:46] i had jack running ok in ubuntu 8.04 [19:46] well, this is what needs to be sorted out [19:46] and i got a meeting here in a minute [19:47] let me give you some suggestions [19:47] of course #jack [19:47] and #opensourcemusicians [19:47] and the ubuntustudio mailing list [19:47] ok im gratefull for your time [19:47] im in here alot though [19:47] and i'll try again later with you if you dont get it sorted :) [19:48] ok see you later then, thanks [21:03] anyone make music? [21:13] hello again dludldin :) [21:13] heres a little 30 second thing i did not too long ago [21:14] http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1172535/groove.ogg [21:14] and heres a friends music all made with ubuntu [21:14] http://wootangent.net/music/ [22:12] hello [22:12] hi everybody [22:12] im trying to connect my MIDI keyboard to PC [22:12] any 1 know what system is best to dual boot with ubuntu? emachines dell hp? [22:13] this keyb is an old portatone [22:13] it has synthesizer capability [22:13] im trying to get it play from hydrogen + jack [22:13] anybody knows hoe to do that? [22:15] no idead my self sorry [23:14] hi [23:15] holstein : are you there [23:15] dludldin: hey [23:16] did you see my posts earlier? [23:16] 16:14 < holstein> heres a little 30 second thing i did not too long ago [23:16] 16:14 < holstein> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1172535/groove.ogg [23:16] 16:14 < holstein> and heres a friends music all made with ubuntu [23:16] 16:14 < holstein> http://wootangent.net/music/ [23:16] anyways.. did you get sorted? [23:16] JACK? [23:18] jack is ok [23:18] just a minute [23:18] COOL [23:20] would you help to connect tuxguitar to qsynth via jack? this would be a good learning experience [23:21] sure [23:21] in theory [23:21] trying to listen to your 30 second thing but not being able to [23:21] you get JACK running [23:21] open 'connect' [23:22] and thats where all the JACK friendly apps will show up [23:22] and im not quite sure what tuxguitar looks like [23:22] but, see if it just shows up there [23:25] why can t listen to groove.ogg? [23:25] .ogg ? [23:25] maybe [23:25] your 30 second thing [23:26] try downloading it [23:26] open a terminal [23:26] wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1172535/groove.ogg [23:27] you can navigate to your Music directory first if you want [23:27] cd /home/you/Music [23:27] wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1172535/groove.ogg [23:27] its not that big a deal though ;) [23:27] i downloaded it but media player dont read it [23:28] which media player? [23:28] it should just play in the browser [23:28] ubuntu default [23:28] movie player i guess [23:28] OH [23:28] you got JACK going [23:28] you would have to route it [23:28] you can do that later ;) [23:29] that s it :) [23:29] how have you done this? [23:30] the track? [23:31] yes [23:31] i just did acoustic instruments [23:31] overdubbed [23:31] with ardour [23:31] routed in JACK [23:31] using a presonus firepod interface [23:31] mixed with ardour, and routed through JAMin [23:32] i guess it sounds brazilian [23:32] ah [23:33] cool :) [23:34] flute , some small string instrument , acoustic bass , percussion? [23:34] nylon string parlor guitar [23:34] like a little classical guitar [23:34] open holed bamboo flute [23:35] acoustic bass [23:35] i think that was just a floor tom or something [23:35] banging on it and the rim [23:36] and i got http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1172535/osmp30.ogg [23:36] more rockin ;) [23:36] very nice mix. pro quality sound [23:36] i need to re-do some of the parts though [23:36] i got distracted before i got a good final mix on it [23:36] dludldin: thanks :) [23:42] well i prefer the acoustic one [23:42] me too [23:42] trying to do some commercial stuff though [23:43] how do you record electric guitar? [23:43] i went right into a preamp [23:43] i have a presonus eureka [23:43] then into the firepod [23:44] the effects are all rakarrack [23:44] acoustic drums [23:44] synth everything else [23:44] but i dont really do much MIDI [23:45] i tend to just route in JACK and play the synth stuff live [23:45] firepod? [23:45] like an anolog rig [23:45] http://www.presonus.com/products/detail.aspx?productid=3 [23:45] ^^ they call the firepod the FP-10 now [23:49] holstein : thanks for helping with jack [23:50] dludldin: anytime :) [23:51] hey holstein do you like satriani? [23:52] i used to listen some [23:52] i dont remember any of the tunes or albums though [23:52] years ago really [23:53] good stuff [23:54] in deed he really is a good guitar player ; )
