[00:07] what I've learned in KDE that if i works fine - don't update [00:08] yeah [00:08] iNfRaC00L: where's your sense of adventure? [00:26] it started when I upgraded to the Maverick release candidate [00:27] how do I alter that bouncing icon right nxt my cursor ? [00:27] anj_: try creating a new user, see if the fonts behave right on that... if they do then its a problem with one of the config files [00:28] James147, might try that later. any idea *which* config file it might be? [00:29] anj_: not sure, but what I generally do is rename the .kde folder on the orignal user then test it... if it works then then rename it back and lookin inside that :) [00:29] Se7en: in KDE 4.5.1: bring up System Settings, go to Application and System Notifications, go to Launch Feedback [00:30] anj_: bouncing cursor -> Common Appearance->Application and System Notifications->Launch Feedback [00:30] thank you [00:30] James147: ugh! :) [00:30] James147: too much stress for too little now. :p [00:31] anj_: note that its best to rename .kde when you arent loged in :) (at least in the gui) [00:31] James147: yah I just suspect it's a package being upgraded that resets the fonts [00:32] just had about a million upgrades that may have caused this [00:34] oh, and how about the quick access widget? if I put any of those on my desktop and set their location to (say) smb:/ or some FTP directory, they crash plasma-desktop every time. Poo. [00:37] do you have that desktop-folder widget? [00:37] have it? yes, but not using one [00:37] er, wait, what's desktop-folder? [00:38] i think that's name of the widget... nvm [00:38] folder view [00:38] quick access [00:38] not sure desktop-folder exists. [00:39] folder view, right.. anyway if u middleclick right below + sign it opens folders in tooltip-like window [00:40] discovered it by accident [00:40] if you use the right plasma desktop theme, you can even see the "invisible" icon that's under the "+" sign [00:40] it's an up-arrow [00:41] and a left-click will do [00:41] yes it truly works, i just see no icon :) [00:42] yah it depends on the theme if you can see the icon. [00:42] I guess they haven't all been updated for this feature yet. [00:42] and i thought i've discovered an easter egg :) [00:43] it confused me for a while... [00:43] the folder-popup thingie was automatic for a while, now it's not anymore [00:43] now you have to click on the up-arrow icon (which is invisible in some themes) [00:45] uf, getting late . gotta sleep . cu l8ta === Tabstar is now known as Guest51879 [01:46] i'm running the kubuntu netbook live and I don't see the global menu..how to get it? [19:55] yes [19:56] sorry typo [19:56] im dislexic [19:56] so you're running this game in a vm of kubuntu? [19:56] yup [19:56] im usuing a stable version of wine [19:57] ah.. so it's a windows game, in a vm of kubuntu.. are you using virtualbox? [19:57] nope [19:57] what virtual machine are you using? [19:57] no idea all i installed was wine [19:58] no..no.. the kubuntu os is loaded in a virtual machine (as you said) .. to do that you have to use a program that will allow you to run a virtual machine.. what program is that? [19:58] uhh no clue [19:58] ok.. what's the host OS? [19:59] kubuntu [19:59] 9.04 i think [19:59] no.. from what you said that is the guest.. is the only OS on your computer kubuntu? [19:59] i have vista [20:00] partitioned side by side [20:00] ok.. now we're getting closer.. did you use wubi to install kubuntu? [20:00] so you have a dual boot? [20:00] i installed froma disc [20:00] yes [20:00] yes to dual boot? [20:00] yes [20:00] when you booted to the disk for install was that from a cold boot or was vista running at the time? [20:01] cold [20:03] ok.. so a true dual boot. [20:03] the game you're trying to run does it require direct X ? [20:03] yess [20:03] pretty high graphic game [20:04] then it won't work.. direct x will not work in wine. that is a propitiatory thing from microsoft.. you have to run it in windows. [20:04] ive installed dx8 drivers on linux b4 why cant we do that now? [20:06] no idea.. [20:06] and again that doesnt make since guildwars requires dx9 and it plays just fine [20:06] aight man thanks for ur help. [20:06] hi channel [20:07] some programs will also use opengl.. perhaps guildwars does that.. you'd be better off checking with #winehq or their site to check on compatibility === kubuntu_ is now known as Peace- [21:10] need info about removing favorite tab from kickoff menu [21:11] * crack05 is away (Gone) === crack05 is now known as CRACK05 [21:15] it be more practical if kickoff only had applications, computer, and leave .. favorites and recently used are just redundant === Nakkel_ is now known as nakkel [21:17] specially since the search bar can be equally effective at calling whatever application you need use , not to mention alt-f2 does the same thing anyway === muzer is now known as MuzerAway [21:28] can I install kubuntu x64 without swap with 3 Gb of ram? [21:29] some1_: sure. absolutely. say goodbye to hibernation/resume [21:29] only if you have more than 4G RAM, hence you should have a swap of about 4-5G [21:30] I don't understand though, why not give up just 6GB to swap? [21:31] !help [21:31] Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-) === Tabstar is now known as Tabmow === MuzerAway is now known as muzer [21:41] kyubutsu: computer and recently used are redundant, favorites, leave and programs are enough. I guess it would be practical if there was a setting for which menu's to activate. [21:46] so, a kickoff with applications, favorites and leave; i still would favor recently used against favorites anyway [21:46] now, how to get that done, you know? [21:49] I'm afraid they removed a lot of settings like this from KDE 3, I don't know any other way then grabbing the source, removing some parts and make a new widget === mren is now known as mren|off [22:09] Hi, if I install 10.10 RC today, will it automatically get updated to the released version after Monday (via package updates), or will I have to reinstall? [22:14] djSeeque, it will automatically update to the final release when you update [22:20] BluesKaj: thanks! That's what I figured [22:20] time to move on from 8.04 :-) [22:22] djSeeque, how did you install ? [22:23] or are going to install rather [22:23] Fresh installation on another disk. [22:24] I want to have both available as I transition to the new one [22:27] Sometimes Kontact gets stuck showing a contact in the right pane.. no matter what contact you highlight it doesn't change.. How do I fix this? [22:27] <_Wise_> hi * === _motti_ is now known as yotam [22:28] djSeeque, a bit of advice , if you haven't done so in the past . Install kubuntu to a / partition and create a /home partition for your data . Then, next time you do a clean install , just istall the OS to / and your dataon the /home partition will be unaffected. [22:29] Last night I installed a security update/some bug fix updates and now I can't boot unless I boot from one of the older kernel versions, did anyone else experience this? [22:29] BluesKaj: that makes a lot of sense, and it's occurred to me before [22:29] maybe I'll do it for the Maverick install [22:29] Booting with 2.6.32-25 causes a kernel panic [22:30] djSeeque, it's common practice by ppl who follow each new release [22:31] BluesKaj: sure, seems obvious in retrospect. Thanks! [22:31] djSeeque, np :) [22:33] any other suggestions about partitioning? Up to now I only use two, for / and /boot. Now I'll add /home. anything else obvious? === automatical_ is now known as automatical [22:37] <_Wise_> I'm using dolphin to mount remote filesystems with fish://.
