cactaurHey all! So I'm currently trying to work with a bug I submitted. I've been going back and forth with a triager. However, when he asked me to try testing out a mainline kernel, I couldn't do it because there was an error. I'm not sure what to do now since the bug is not that the kernel won't compile, but I'm not sure where to turn to for help. Anyone have any advice?07:59
nigelbThis wiki page might help you: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds08:01
cactaurYes, I followed this guide. However, at installing the final debian package, I got an error about it being unable to install initrd. I was wondering where I should turn to because I don't think mainline builds are something many people need help with.08:04
nigelbok, I'd recommend asking in #ubuntu-kernel but on a working day.  There is a possiblity there may not be anyone around today08:06
njinhello to all, can someone set importance to this ? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/63421108:32

xteejxbug 127839 - how can I clean this up, its long been fixed but the Debian task is "new"16:00
ubot2Launchpad bug 127839 in net-snmp (Debian) (and 2 other projects) "Big changelog.gz file duplicates in libsnmp-base and libsnmp9 packages (affects: 1) (heat: 2)" [Unknown,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/12783916:00
hggdhxteejx: well, checking the affected packages?16:01
xteejxhggdh, I don't get what you mean16:01
xelister10.10 ubutnu was realse, right?  its not in testing now?16:02
xteejxxelister: 10.10 is the latest Ubuntu release, yes16:02
xelisterif I do  update-manager --devel-release   then it shows me new ubuntu 10.1016:02
devildantexelister: does it show without the option?16:03
xelisterbut there it says - = Welcome to the Ubuntu 'Maverick Meerkat' development release =16:03
hggdhxteejx: hum. Actually, it is fix-released on Ubuntu16:03
xteejxxelister: It would do, 11.04 hasn't been touched yet16:03
xelisterand without that option, this is now shown. wtf16:03
xelisterI use   deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-proposed restricted main multiverse universe16:03
xelistersince I helped testing some stuff on lucid16:03
xteejxhggdh, I know it's fixed in Ubuntu, but that Debian task adds to our number doesn't it? How do I change it?16:04
hggdhxteejx: so it is only open on Debian. You could download the debian packages, and check if it is still true there16:04
xteejxhggdh, ahh I see whwere you're going :) I'llk get on it16:04
yofelxelister: does it even list maverick when you don't use --devel-release?16:04
xelisteryofel:  list it where?16:04
hggdhxteejx: no, it does not add -- not really -- to our numbers. It will still be shown, but it is not an Ubuntu bug, it is upstream16:04
xteejxhggdh, ahh ok, just looked messy :)16:05
yofelxelister: well, update-manager should offer you the maverick upgrade without --devel-release if you set it to show normal releases and not just LTS ones16:05
xelisteryofel: it doesnt.  why?16:08
xelistercould it be because I set sources.list to lucid-proposed?16:09
yofelxelister: if you go to software sources -> updates, what does it say for "show new distribution releases: ..." ?16:10
xelisterah, that was the problem16:12
xelisterit was only showing TLS16:12

njinhello fellows, there's a kubuntu user to take a look at this ?https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/661313 Thanks18:08
ubot2Launchpad bug 661313 in ubuntu "kubuntu 10.10 issue with desktop effects and taskbar transparency (affects: 1) (heat: 6)" [Undecided,New]18:08
yofelthat they're not enabled on boot probably comes from a bug in the complicated blacklisting code for intel cards (there was a report about that somewhere..) I don't know how the taskbar transparency works though18:15
yofelnjin: you could ask in #kubuntu-devel what information is needed here, I would use kwin (source kdebase-workspace) as the package name for now18:18

ramanKI think it is  a bug .18:22
NafalloramanK: well, 100% is one processor core... if you have several and the application uses them it can be well beyond 100%18:23
Nafalloi.e. say it's using two cores fully... that's 200%18:23
ramanKNafallo: hmm. do you think this is what people usually expect ?18:24
yofelwell, I wouldn't expect a process that uses one full core on a quad-core to only use 25% either, so a process using >100% is fine IMHO18:26
yofeldepends on the viewpoint I guess18:26
ramanKthanks for answer.18:28
ramanKgood luck18:29
slinkerbug 661806 medium18:43
ubot2Launchpad bug 661806 in pitivi (Ubuntu) "Audio not selectable after zooming in (affects: 1) (heat: 6)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/66180618:43
hggdhslinker: for this one, what version of pitivi are you running? The was opened against 1ubuntu2, and current is 1ubuntu318:47
hggdhslinker: also, if you find *another* issue, you should report it on a NEW bug -- one bug per issue, one issue per bug18:48
devildantecould someone change the topic? It's still saying that the meeting is 12 Oct :p18:50
xteejxI asked for that 2 days ago lol18:50

xteejxhggdh, any way I'd find out?18:59
xteejxsuppose i could google again19:00
hggdhxteejx: grab the source...19:00

xteejxermm stupid question...why can't I find partman? Only parted, partimage etc19:03
xteejxOh it's partitionmanager isn't it?19:03
devildanteI think so :)19:05
xteejx:)19:06
hggdhxteejx: one oway is to click on the Overview link at the top of the bug, and you will get to see all versions published for that package (which means binary and package sources19:07
hggdhthen you can navigate from there19:08
xteejxhggdh, but I don't know if it was ever implemented or not19:08
xteejxI have the source anyway, going thru the changelog19:08
hggdhxteejx: if 'dd' is being used, then you should be able to find a call to it19:09
xteejxhggdh, ok I'll do a grep search19:09
xteejxNothing matching dd that I can see, so gonna mark it Confirmed19:14
hggdhoops19:15
xteejxoops?19:15
hggdhxteejx: I just downloaded it, and ran a grep on it: http://pastebin.com/HannJwe519:15
geekosopheram i correct in marking bug 659668 as confirmed?19:15
ubot2Launchpad bug 659668 in linux (Ubuntu) "Ubuntu does not suspend for Lenovo Thinkpad T500 (affects: 8) (dups: 1) (heat: 54)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/65966819:15
xteejxhggdh, strange it didn't come up :S19:16
hggdhxteejx: did you 'grep -R dd *'?19:17
xteejxyup I done a recursive search19:17
hggdhgeekosopher: for Linux (kernel) bugs, ideally you have to have the *exact* same hardware to be able to confirm19:17
hggdhgeekosopher: the OP states it has a T500, the additional commenter has a W500. What is the difference between both?19:18
geekosopherhggdh: ok, so should I let it be marked as new?19:18
hggdhxteejx: also, I used 'pull-lp-source' to get the source packages19:19
xteejxweird my system didn't see it (or my eyes)19:19
xteejxI assume that first line pretty much closes the wishlist bug then with the bs=xxx ?19:19
geekosopherhggdh: i don't know19:19
hggdhgeekosopher: yes, I think so. Also, please add a comment to the second commenter to please open a new bug19:19
geekosopherok19:20
hggdhxteejx: *seems* to. Now you have to really look at the sources, and find how they are used19:20
xteejxhggdh, :O19:20
hggdhxteejx: but I have a feeling this is not a bug...19:20
geekosopherhggdh: the original reporter has also done apport-collect for the bug. Is the information contained enough to be marked as triaged?19:22
xteejxhggdh, It's wishlist isn't it?19:22
njinhggdh: reporter reply https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/slide-webdavclient/+bug/65100419:23
ubot2Launchpad bug 651004 in slide-webdavclient (Ubuntu) "webDAV corruption on Lucid: Lightning calendar not available (affects: 1) (heat: 8)" [Undecided,New]19:23
hggdhgeekosopher: now... it would, yes, usually. But this is a kernel bug...19:23
xteejxI think I'll just ask the guy if he's still having issues with this19:23
geekosopher:019:24
devildantegeekosopher: he needs to test the upstream mainline kernel first19:24
hggdhxteejx: you can state that Maverick (at least) already uses a bs="1000000", which is bigger than what is being proposed19:24
hggdhxteejx: also, there is no indication of *what* version the OP is running...19:25
xteejxhggdh, that's true, will put that in the reply :) thank you19:25
hggdhxteejx: "please use ubuntu-bug ..." to report new bugs, etc, etc19:25
xteejxhggdh, going by the report date I'd guess 7.0419:25
xteejxyeah I'll do that then :)19:25
hggdhxteejx: now that you have a good idea of dates, you can look at the changelog and try to find out when it was added in19:26
xteejxWill do...detective to the rescue......... hehe19:26

hggdhbut I do not know enough to tell you how to proceed19:32
hggdhnjin: I see no errors being reported, though, but it seems that Apache is not being run with extended error logging19:33
hggdhnjin: I do not even know if this is Apache-related, or DAV client-related, right now...19:33
njinhddgh: no problem, thanks, i go to search at developer site.19:35

hggdhslinker: there are actually 3 (!) different issues there!19:43
hggdhslinker: may I suggest you to open two new bugs on gnome-nettool, and split the three issues so that we have one bug per issue, one issue per bug?19:44
hggdhslinker: and you could say something like: "thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. I took the liberty of opening the additional bug  xxxx and yyyy for the issues of yadda and blahblah"19:46
hggdhslinker: "we cannot track multiple issues per bug. I also subscribed you to those new bugs, and adjusted the title on this one to one single issue"19:47

jgr_If I go to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu the 'report a bug' is a link to documentation about reporting bugs22:08
penguin42jgr_: Oh, it shouldn't exit22:09
jgr_So, after reading so many documents how to report a bug, I actually can not do that :-(22:09
penguin42jgr_: Hmm, what's the problem?22:09
penguin42jgr_: What was your original bug?22:10
jgr_It is related with a very small issue when installing a aspell dictionary in a fresh 10.1022:11

jgr_I think it's not a bug in ubuntu-bug, but simple a feature that should be improved22:21
penguin42jgr_: I don't think so, the 'other problem' option must have been put in with the hope it would do something useful22:21
jgr_yeh, but probably not enough time to 'do something useful'22:22
jgr_I can be improved, definitely22:23
penguin42can someone suggest what to do with bug 656558 ? The original reporter is saying it's now working, however I doubt there was a bug fix that actually fixed it22:48

hggdhpenguin42: I would go fix released, unknown fix22:54
penguin42ok22:54

penguin42bu 627487 is curious, it suggests the package just needs a rebuild (or there is a bug with libwx that is causing that)23:18
penguin42bug 627487 even23:19
ubot2Launchpad bug 627487 in wxwidgets2.8 (Ubuntu) (and 2 other projects) "KiCad won't start (affects: 14) (dups: 2) (heat: 88)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/62748723:19
hggdhyes, interesting. Perhaps one of the dependant packages has been updated?23:27
penguin42I guess for those users a rebuild of that package would be a nice fix, but it looks like maybe libwx something has changed and it needs fixing23:38
hggdhyes. If the version is the same, perhaps a changed compile option?23:42
penguin42it looks from that the symbol has been removed from the library23:44
penguin42actually, maybe symbol versioning stuff - now how does nm work with that...23:45
penguin42hmm annoying, can't see a way23:50
hggdhI wonder if rebuilding it on a builder (PPA, for example, or pbuilder) would show the same behaviour23:54
hggdhas opposed to a debuild within the user's environment23:54
penguin42I suspect it would, I think it's just the age of the wx library it was built against - but I don't understand what's happening to the symbol versioining to know why23:56
penguin42hggdh: The library is saying that symbol came in version 2.8.9 but for some reason KiCad is asking for it in 2.8 - that could be Kicad did something silly, the library used to declare it differently or the tools changed somewhere23:59
