TheUniour ppa requires ubuntu universe to be enabled, otherwise users get dependency issues. is there a way to not this in the package?00:29
TheUni*note00:30
patterni just created a new project in launchpad, did a "bzr push lp:~me/myproject/trunk", which succeeded (as i can see via "bzr ls lp:~me/myproject/trunk"), but for some reason i can't see any files in https://launchpad.net/myproject/trunk01:08
patternand on that web page launchpad tells me that "You haven't yet told Launchpad where your source code is for myproject trunk series."01:09
persiaTheUni, I realise this information is a bit late, but the way PPAs are set up presume that universe is enabled: this is true for every PPA.  I don't believe there's a special way to indicate this though.02:41
TheUnipersia: ugh :\02:41
TheUnithat stinks, considering how cryptic the error messages seem to users02:42
persiaThe common response from most folk seems to be "Well then, don't use PPAs".  I'm not sure the entire ecosystem couldn't benefit from some thought.02:42
wgrantuniverse used to be enabled by default, so this wasn't much of a problem.02:42
TheUnipersia: seems simple enough to me: Depends: universe/library02:43
TheUniif universe isn't installed, prompt with a nice message02:43
TheUnis/installed/enabled02:43
hypatiais this the right place for a launchpad/wiki SSO problem?02:43
wgranthypatia: Maybe. If not, we can point you elsewhere.02:44
persiaOh, you could probably achieve that using a software channel definition.02:44
wgrantAsk away.02:44
TheUnipersia: please elaborate02:44
persiaBut doesn't solve the structural problem.02:44
persiaTheUni, provide a package containing a software channel that points at your PPA and forces universe to be enabled.  Tell folks to add this software channel to get your packages.  Use the PPA as a delivery mechanism, but not as part of the user interface.02:46
persiaI'm not sure how closely software channels are documented: I found out about them because someone in my LoCo was digging through the software-center source.02:46
TheUnipersia: i'm not seeing any docs. got any hints?02:48
persianot usefully beyond pointers to the consumer source02:48
TheUniok02:49
hypatiawgrant: conveniently, i've already filed a bug: https://answers.launchpad.net/moin-openid/+question/11012302:50
wgranthypatia: The sysadmins seem to have been dealing with that. #canonical-sysadmin may be worth a try.02:52
* wgrant has to go now.02:52
MFenjml: what's the name of that protocol for exchanging results between xunit clients and servers?03:04
MFenfor some reason i thought it was "xunit" but it can't be that simple03:04
mwhudsonMFen: do you mean subunit?03:12
MFenyes. i do. thanks :)03:12
hypatiai'll have a look there, thanks wgrant03:32
natesmi'm trying to use the "copy packages feature" and getting this:03:43
natesmThe following source cannot be copied:03:43
natesmclutter-gst-1.0 1.2.0-0ppa2 in maverick (same version already has published binaries in the destination archive)03:43
natesmit's currently uploaded as maverick, trying to copy to lucid, natty (same message for both)03:43
wgrantnatesm: You need to copy the binaries too.03:43
natesmwgrant: not sure I follow, I selected "Copy existing binaries" and it worked, is that "safe" though?03:46
wgrantnatesm: It depends on your application.03:47
wgrantInterpreted things will normally work correctly when copied to another series.03:48
wgrantCompiled binaries will normally work copied forwards, as long as the ABI hasn't changed.03:49
persiaIt's generally safer to copy forward in history (maverick ->natty) than backward (maverick->lucid)03:49
natesmok, otherwise do I have to manually create a different package for each version? (it builds without any changes)03:51
wgrantRight.03:52
wgrantYou'd generally append ~lucid1, ~maverick1, etc. to the version.03:52
mwhudsonthere's a thing called autoppa that can do that03:53
mwhudsonand of course, recipes support it too03:53
wgrantBut recipes don't do non-native packages yet.03:53
mwhudsonoh that's true03:54
natesmhttp://blog.launchpad.net/ppa/introducing-autoppa is this still the relevant thing to read? I noticed "gutsy" in there03:54
michaelh1Hey, is there a way to link to a blueprints list sorted by project?04:09
michaelh1I can go to https://blueprints.launchpad.net/linaro-toolchain and then click on 'Project' to sort, but I want to link straight to that view04:09
persiamichaelh1, It uses YUI, so you'd have to have something that called into that on page load, which doesn't currently exist.  Easy enough if you want to host something ajaxy that pulls from LP, but not if you want LP to do it.04:32
michaelh1Ah, so there's no .../+specs/all?sort_by=project magic link04:33
persiaHistorically, nobody has worked on blueprints except when absolutely necessary since they were introduced, which means the chances of it doing what you want are very low unless you write the code yourself.04:33
persiaYUI might have some URL parsing, but I think it's all JS state variables.04:34

lifelesswallyworld: I'm going to change the api slightly, it will be layer.appserver_config_fixture.instance_name06:20
wallyworldlifeless: ok. you remind me of my wife. "i want to sofa over here, no wait, over there" :-)06:21
StevenKwallyworld: It's a lot easier to move code than a sofa06:29
lifelesswallyworld: must be a mark of quality.. you married her after all :P06:30
wallyworldStevenK: depends :-) code potentially has a lot more dependencies and test breakages to consider. with a sofa, you pick it up and put it down again06:30
wallyworldlifeless: yes, that was 17 years ago. there's a lot of technical debt to clear now :-)06:31
geserlamont or bigjools: Hi, can someone of you review the patch in bug 615286? It would be really nice to have that bug fixed soon with natty now opened for development and all the auto-syncs and uploads. Thanks.09:28

rd2bHi all, I am trying to use the launchpad's bzr daily builder with recipes and it always fails with "bzr: ERROR: [Errno 2] No such file or directory". I can't find whats wrong with this. Could anyone help?13:53
MTecknologyI still love how the extimated time to start building is just massively unrealistic.. :P13:56
wgrantOh?13:57
wgrantIt shouldn't be too bad at the moment.13:57
MTecknologywgrant: estimated start in 4sec; that was 7min ago13:59
MTecknology8min now :P13:59

bigjoolsthe queue can change quite quickly14:10
bigjoolsand higher priority jobs inserted in front of yours14:10
MTecknologybigjools: how many things have higher priority than private ppa's?14:11
MTecknologyI'm sure security ppa's do14:11
bigjoolsthere's no fixed answer to that14:11

maxbpattern: on that page you should be able to associate the series with a branch15:27
patternok, i finally figured it out15:31
=== dendrobates is now known as dendro-afk
patternthanks, maxb15:32
patternto lessen the confusion, imo, the help on that page should say "If the code is in a Bazaar branch not yet on Launchpad you can either: ... Push the branch directly to Launchpad, e.g. with: 'bzr push lp:~me/myproject/trunk' and then link the branch to this series"15:36
patternalso, on the "link the branch to this series" page searching for "myproject" turned up nothing... i had to search for "trunk" to find the link to the branch15:37
patternit might also be good to have that page just list all the branches you own in the first place, so you can just select them by clicking on them without needing to search or to somehow divine the syntax its looking for15:38
