lunaphytehi.  i have a front end that won't connect to a back end.  i don't know much about mythtv yet, but it seems like it's complaining about not being able to make a mysql connection.  mysql does appear to be listening on the physical interface, according to telnet.  how can i troubleshoot further.01:43
lunaphyte*further?01:43
superm1`ComradeHaz`, well fortunately you can undo anything done by removing the added line and rerunning update-initramfs -u01:51
superm1`as for the sound issue it caused, did ALSA not load snd_usb_audio now?01:51
lunaphyteoh, i've figured it out i think.01:52
superm1`lunaphyte, okay cool :)01:52
lunaphyte:)01:52
superm1`ComradeHaz`, oh i think i know what the second part might be01:53
lunaphytethe front end somehow knew the ip address of the backend, and had a string in the password field, but it was wrong, i guess?01:53
superm1`it tried to "save" your old ALSA settings on reboot01:53
superm1`you'll want to rm /var/lib/alsa/asound.state01:53
superm1`and reboot01:53
superm1`easy enough fix01:53

lunaphytei looked in /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt on the backend, and used the password contained therein.  that seems to have worked, although i'm not certain i've done the right thing.01:53
superm1that's a fine way to do it01:54
superm1the other way is via UPnP01:54
lunaphyteis that how the frontend found the backend?  upnp?01:55
superm1Yeah01:59
superm1usually it can discover more about it too01:59
lunaphyteit seemed to think it figured out the mysql user/pass - is that something that it's usually able to find out?02:00
superm1usually02:26
lunaphytehmm, ok.  i wonder why it was wrong.02:26
lunaphytenot a big deal though, at the moment.  i'm just testing some hardware.02:27
lunaphytei've placed a couple of video files in /var/lib/mythtv/videos/ on the backend server.  i'd like to play them using the frontend computer, but they don't appear.  i'm having trouble finding out if there's something more i need to do.02:52
lunaphyteah, i've found some info on storage groups.02:54
superm1lunaphyte, you need to have the frontend scan for videos03:54
superm1and it will request the backend to do so03:54
lunaphytesuperm1: i saw something referencing that, but it sounded like it was deprecated?  "In versions of MythTV prior to .22, it was necessary to enter the Video Manager screen to initiate a scan. This is no longer the case."  also, i don't see anything in the frontend for doing this.04:14
superm1lunaphyte, hit the "menu" key and there's an option for it04:15
superm1i've certainly still gotta do it04:15
superm1you can check in #mythtv-users with those guys potentially04:15
lunaphytehmm, ok.  let me try.04:15
lunaphytethe menu key brings up the system menu?  i only see about and cancel.04:18
superm1you're in mythvideo?04:18
lunaphyteah!  no, i wasn't.  thanks.04:19
lunaphytei didn't know the menu was context sensitive.04:19
lunaphytelots of stuff to learn here... :)04:20
lunaphytethat did the trick.04:20

qwebirc79251hi just upgraded the server and client (back and front end) version to 10.10 with the automatic builds... has anyone else had a problem where it just dumps you out and asks u to re-log in with your username and password when you attempt to watch a recording?13:17
qwebirc79251anyone?13:32
qwebirc74397hi just upgraded the server and client (back and front end) version to 10.10 with the automatic builds... has anyone else had a problem where it just dumps you out and asks u to re-log in with your username and password when you attempt to watch a recording?14:20
mrandqwebirc74397: there have been reports, including Bug 66060514:47
ZinnBug 660605 in mythtv (Ubuntu) "session lost when trying to watch live tv" [Undecided, New] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/66060514:47
mrandsuperm1: I'm assuming this is NOT a mythtv bug.  what package though?14:48
superm1mrand, i've seen a few reports of that15:11
superm1it's probably a bug in X or the nvidia driver15:11
superm1i'd lean in the nvidia driver15:11
mrandqwebirc74397: are you using Nvidia?15:11
lunaphytei'm having trouble getting a front end to see music on the backend.  videos do work.  how can i troubleshoot further?21:50
lunaphytei've told the front end to scan for new music, but the list remains empty.21:51
rhpot1991lunaphyte: frontend and backend different boxes?21:52
lunaphyteyes.21:52
rhpot1991lunaphyte: well storage groups don't work with music so you will need to setup a nfs or samba share to share them between the two21:54
lunaphyteoh, ok.  i didn't realize that.  so effectively, each front end needs to have (or think it has) the music directly on it's file system?21:55
rhpot1991lunaphyte: yep, until the music supports storage groups21:59
lunaphytei see, thank you.  is that something that's on the docket?22:00
rhpot1991I thought so, check the 0.24 changelogs and see if it made it in or not22:00
lunaphytecool, i'll do that.22:00
rhpot1991basically storage groups only worked for recordings and video, there was an issue with .iso files and music and pictures22:01
lunaphytei thought i recalled someone mentioning being able to play music on their ps3 from mythtv - a ps3 can't mount a share like that - how might that work?22:01
tgm4883UPNP22:04
lunaphytei see that.  it sounds like separate front/back ends and other upnp clients is a bit of a convoluted process.  i was just reading this discussion : http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/28089422:06
Zinn[www.gossamer-threads.com] UPnP music without frontend | MythTV | Users22:06
lunaphyteheh :)22:06
lunaphyteso it sounds like the gist of it is that yes, you can, but you must have some front end somewhere running mythmusic, so the db is populated, so the back end can server out files via upnp?22:07
lunaphyte*serve out22:08
tgm4883yea something like that22:09
tgm4883I don't use mythmusic so IDK22:09
lunaphyteno worries.22:09
lunaphytei'll give things a shot.22:09
