dyatesHi all, I'm struggling to get Mythbuntu 10.10 to work with my HVR2250 card.  Anybody been successful with this yet?  It may boil down to a problem with the 2.6.35 kernel :(01:50
dyatesToth's code won't compile on 2.6.35 for a number of reasons, it seems to be missing backwards compatibility for usb_buffer_free, as well as another problem once I fixed all those headers01:54
dyatesthe specific error I get is in dvb_net.c, line 1197:  error:  dereferencing pointer to incomplete type02:05
dyatesseems to be a problem with struct net_device being different in 2.6.3502:05
dyatesHere's more specifics:  http://pastebin.com/JuR7hMRE02:07
dyatesk guess i'm going back to 10.0402:28

qwebirc7974noobuntu, here...16:52
qwebirc7974how do it install desktop in mythbuntu 10.1016:52
qwebirc92665n16:54
qwebirc92665How do I install a desktop in mythbuntu 10.1016:55
StradenkoRecently moved to 10.10 and I'm having trouble playing back un-transcoded recordings from a pchdtv capture.  .xsession-errors logs a bunch of " [mpeg2video @ 0x73ae120]mpeg_decode_postinit() failure" messages before crashing.  Has anyone else experienced this?17:44
gregLStradenko: Are you using vapau? If so are you using the slim profile?17:53
Stradenkolibvdpau1 is installed, but how can I tell if it's active/in use?17:54
gregLjust a second17:54
Stradenko "Utilities -> Setup -> TV Settings -> Playback -> Playback Profiles (3/8)"  ... I'm set to "CPU+"17:57
gregLStradenko, go into setup on the frontend..Then TV setings, then playback.then page 3 of 8.. Cycle through the setting for playback profiles.. Choose slim vdpau..17:58
StradenkoSetting to slim seems to have fixed the playback issue.17:59
gregLvdpau or just slim17:59
Stradenkovpdau slim17:59
StradenkoWhy is that?18:00
gregLcool you should be good to go...18:00
gregLvdpau off loads to the gpu..18:00
StradenkoSo it's a performance thing?18:01
gregLYes, If you use vdpau, you can use a lesser CPU...18:01
StradenkoOdd, since I've never had a problem before.  Although, mythcommflag is running on 1 core this morning...but still.  2.3GHz should be enough to decode broadcast 720p mpeg2, shouldn't it?18:03
StradenkoNot to be argumentative, just trying to ensure I understand.18:03
gregLNo I didn't think you were.. Do a google search for vdpau and it can explain it better than I can...18:04
StradenkoI appreciate the help.  Now if I can only get the nvidia-current module to load on boot, I'll be set.18:05
gregLI was lucky,I didn't have that problem... Mine just worked...Did you upgrade or fresh install??18:06
Stradenkoall upgrades  since Dapper or so.18:07
StradenkoIt worked fine in Karmic, but Lucid broke it...18:08
StradenkoOr maybe I broke it trying to deal with the nvidia vs. nouveau situation.18:09
Stradenkobut as it stands, a modprobe nvidia-current works fine, but the boot process wants to load "nvidia.ko" which doesn't seem to exist anywhere.18:09
gregLI never really had any luck with upgrades....This is a myth only box so I just drop the Database and reinstall..It usually take about 2 hours...18:09
gregLMaybe that is left over from a previous install..18:10
Stradenkothe simple fix of adding nvidia-current to /etc/modules doesn't help either.  Maybe I should reinstall sometime, but I have / on software raid5 and I only half-remember how I got all that setup. :)18:11
gregLYeah, I make notes on every thing I do....My memory isn't as good as it used to be...Getting old...18:12
StradenkoI try to on the unusual stuff.  raid5 was the best thing I've ever done, 'though.  I've been through 3 drive failures so far.18:13
StradenkoAnyway, thanks again for the help.  It's time to go make some active use of it.18:14
gregLI never set up raid...It's just a tv box...I do have 5 drives, but they are a hodge podge...Yeah good luck..18:15
qwebirc92665I just did a fresh install of 10.10 and I don't see where to add the desktop...I saw a page that said I *COULD* add it, but don't see how19:27
mrandadd which desktop?19:38
qwebirc92665well...I would like gnome19:46
qwebirc92665but, i don't see how to add any19:46
qwebirc92665I think gnome is the one standard installed with 8.04, etc?19:46
mrandThere are two ways to add it to a fresh mythbuntu install: via a package manager, or mythbuntu-control-centre19:50
mrandubuntu-desktop is gnome19:54
qwebirc92665I have looked through menus19:59
qwebirc92665for control center.. that is what the web page referred to...but I don't see it19:59
qwebirc92665and how would I use a package manager...20:01
qwebirc92665I don't see a way to get to a terminal20:01
qwebirc92665either20:01
qwebirc92665I have media library, manage recordings, info center, optical disks, watchtv, utilities/setup20:01
mrandqwebirc92665: ah, ok - you're within mythtv righ tnow20:03
qwebirc92665ok20:03
mrandright now.  You need to exit mythtv to get to the underlying linux system.  Or ssh into that box20:03
mrandand do it via text.20:03
qwebirc92665I don't know where I am...but it looks awesome wherever I am...20:03
mrandheheh20:03
qwebirc92665I tried to exit last night and it hung20:03
qwebirc92665Do you really want to exit MythTV...20:04
mrandhmmm.... when you tried to exit the mythtv menu?  It should have taken you to a desktop, with a very small menu across the top.20:04
mrandYou can say yes to that.20:04
mranddepending on the overscan, I suppose it's possible you can't see the menu along the top.20:04
mrandafter you exit20:05
qwebirc92665No/Yes, Exit now20:05
qwebirc92665selected Yes20:05
mrandok20:05
qwebirc92665now hung on that screen20:05
mrandbizarro20:05
qwebirc92665my luck20:05
mrandwhat computer are you typing on righ tnow?20:06
qwebirc92665ok ok ok20:06
qwebirc92665I got something20:06
qwebirc92665i just started hitting keys i got a menu20:06
mrandIf you're just going to be using this for myth, why bother installing gnome?20:06
qwebirc92665settings accessories multimedia20:06
qwebirc92665i won't be using it just for that...20:07
mrandthere you go.20:07
mrandok20:07
qwebirc92665It may be months before I figure out how to use myth...wanted a working maching while I figured it out20:07
qwebirc92665:)20:07
qwebirc92665page underneatch is still the locked screen but I have a mouse now20:07
qwebirc92665sweet...20:08
qwebirc92665got synaptic20:08
mrandthat's strange.  Anyway, the easy way to add gnome is to use mythbuntu control centre.  Second easiest way is syantpic.20:08
qwebirc92665gnome: Depends:swfdec-mozilla but it is not going to be installed20:10
qwebirc92665synaptic not working as per above reason...20:10
qwebirc92665control center attempt ensuing?20:11
mrandI would think control centre would likely have the same problem... I'd switch to googling that message.20:11
qwebirc92665ok...will do...I closed synaptic and black screened maching20:11
qwebirc92665e20:11
mrandI'll bet overscan is preventing you from seeing the menu bar along the top.20:12
mrandqwebirc92665: check out bug 54240420:12
ZinnBug 542404 in meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) "Package "gnome" is uninstallable due to conflicting dependencies on epiphany and swfdec-mozilla" [Low, Confirmed] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/54240420:12
qwebirc92665I appreciate your help, thus far...but right now I'm bricked...20:13
mrandchanging repo's seemed to fix it for at least one user.20:13
qwebirc92665will check on bug20:13
mrandyou're at a blank screen.  alt-tab take you to anything?20:13
qwebirc92665ok...I haven't done anything with repositories yet...couldn't figure out how to get out of tv...as was booting into tv...20:14
qwebirc92665no...alt tab fails20:14
mrandkeyboard might be useful if you can't reach the menu bar with your mouse: http://www.xfce.org/documentation/4.0/manuals/xfwm4#wm-keybindings20:14
Zinn[www.xfce.org] Xfce - Window Manager20:14
qwebirc92665that's probably what I hit accidentally earlier20:14
qwebirc92665no keyboard input working just black screen going to have to hard reset20:15
qwebirc92665crud...just got it unstuck I think right as I hit pwr but20:16
mrandheh  or maybe it was the button press that unstuck it.20:16
qwebirc92665That was also a thought...who knows20:16
qwebirc92665this window is busy and not responding do you want to terminate the app myth tv front end20:18
qwebirc92665yes20:18
mrandsure.20:18
qwebirc92665still haven't figured out what series of keystrokes is getting me out of that...much fun20:19
qwebirc92665now where is control center?20:19
mrandnext time try alt+f1 or alt+f2.   Control centre should be in one of the menus ...   um, system?  gotta go look20:19
qwebirc92665I seem to think it was f but then could not recreat20:20
qwebirc92665will try alt next inevitable time20:20
qwebirc92665now I understand why you asked why I wanted to install gnome...because it does have a desktop20:20
qwebirc92665from what I could see there was no desktop, earlier...20:20
qwebirc92665just the tv menus20:20
mrandyeah... different people handle the system differently.  It was decided long ago that mythbuntu would be treated more like a "install and forget it" appliance.  Well, as install and forget as myth / linux can be, anyway.20:22
qwebirc92665installing updates...maybe will fix some issues20:22
mrandsorry... back after while.20:23
qwebirc92665no problem...take care...20:23
