[01:50] Hi all, I'm struggling to get Mythbuntu 10.10 to work with my HVR2250 card. Anybody been successful with this yet? It may boil down to a problem with the 2.6.35 kernel :( [01:54] Toth's code won't compile on 2.6.35 for a number of reasons, it seems to be missing backwards compatibility for usb_buffer_free, as well as another problem once I fixed all those headers [02:05] the specific error I get is in dvb_net.c, line 1197: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type [02:05] seems to be a problem with struct net_device being different in 2.6.35 [02:07] Here's more specifics: http://pastebin.com/JuR7hMRE [02:28] k guess i'm going back to 10.04 === formol is now known as formolQC [04:40] hey everybody, can someone tell me, where to get viualisations for screening when i play music? === formol_ is now known as formolQC [16:52] noobuntu, here... [16:52] how do it install desktop in mythbuntu 10.10 [16:54] n [16:55] How do I install a desktop in mythbuntu 10.10 [17:44] Recently moved to 10.10 and I'm having trouble playing back un-transcoded recordings from a pchdtv capture. .xsession-errors logs a bunch of " [mpeg2video @ 0x73ae120]mpeg_decode_postinit() failure" messages before crashing. Has anyone else experienced this? [17:53] Stradenko: Are you using vapau? If so are you using the slim profile? [17:54] libvdpau1 is installed, but how can I tell if it's active/in use? [17:54] just a second [17:57] "Utilities -> Setup -> TV Settings -> Playback -> Playback Profiles (3/8)" ... I'm set to "CPU+" [17:58] Stradenko, go into setup on the frontend..Then TV setings, then playback.then page 3 of 8.. Cycle through the setting for playback profiles.. Choose slim vdpau.. [17:59] Setting to slim seems to have fixed the playback issue. [17:59] vdpau or just slim [17:59] vpdau slim [18:00] Why is that? [18:00] cool you should be good to go... [18:00] vdpau off loads to the gpu.. [18:01] So it's a performance thing? [18:01] Yes, If you use vdpau, you can use a lesser CPU... [18:03] Odd, since I've never had a problem before. Although, mythcommflag is running on 1 core this morning...but still. 2.3GHz should be enough to decode broadcast 720p mpeg2, shouldn't it? [18:03] Not to be argumentative, just trying to ensure I understand. [18:04] No I didn't think you were.. Do a google search for vdpau and it can explain it better than I can... [18:05] I appreciate the help. Now if I can only get the nvidia-current module to load on boot, I'll be set. [18:06] I was lucky,I didn't have that problem... Mine just worked...Did you upgrade or fresh install?? [18:07] all upgrades since Dapper or so. [18:08] It worked fine in Karmic, but Lucid broke it... [18:09] Or maybe I broke it trying to deal with the nvidia vs. nouveau situation. [18:09] but as it stands, a modprobe nvidia-current works fine, but the boot process wants to load "nvidia.ko" which doesn't seem to exist anywhere. [18:09] I never really had any luck with upgrades....This is a myth only box so I just drop the Database and reinstall..It usually take about 2 hours... [18:10] Maybe that is left over from a previous install.. [18:11] the simple fix of adding nvidia-current to /etc/modules doesn't help either. Maybe I should reinstall sometime, but I have / on software raid5 and I only half-remember how I got all that setup. :) [18:12] Yeah, I make notes on every thing I do....My memory isn't as good as it used to be...Getting old... [18:13] I try to on the unusual stuff. raid5 was the best thing I've ever done, 'though. I've been through 3 drive failures so far. [18:14] Anyway, thanks again for the help. It's time to go make some active use of it. [18:15] I never set up raid...It's just a tv box...I do have 5 drives, but they are a hodge podge...Yeah good luck.. [19:27] I just did a fresh install of 10.10 and I don't see where to add the desktop...I saw a page that said I *COULD* add it, but don't see how [19:38] add which desktop? [19:46] well...I would like gnome [19:46] but, i don't see how to add any [19:46] I think gnome is the one standard installed with 8.04, etc? [19:50] There are two ways to add it to a fresh mythbuntu install: via a package manager, or mythbuntu-control-centre [19:54] ubuntu-desktop is gnome [19:59] I have looked through menus [19:59] for control center.. that is what the web page referred to...but I don't see it [20:01] and how would I use a package manager... [20:01] I don't see a way to get to a terminal [20:01] either [20:01] I have media library, manage recordings, info center, optical disks, watchtv, utilities/setup [20:03] qwebirc92665: ah, ok - you're within mythtv righ tnow [20:03] ok [20:03] right now. You need to exit mythtv to get to the underlying linux system. Or ssh into that box [20:03] and do it via text. [20:03] I don't know where I am...but it looks awesome wherever I am... [20:03] heheh [20:03] I tried to exit last night and it hung [20:04] Do you really want to exit MythTV... [20:04] hmmm.... when you tried to exit the mythtv menu? It should have taken you to a desktop, with a very small menu across the top. [20:04] You can say yes to that. [20:04] depending on the overscan, I suppose it's possible you can't see the menu along the top. [20:05] after you exit [20:05] No/Yes, Exit now [20:05] selected Yes [20:05] ok [20:05] now hung on that screen [20:05] bizarro [20:05] my luck [20:06] what computer are you typing on righ tnow? [20:06] ok ok ok [20:06] I got something [20:06] i just started hitting keys i got a menu [20:06] If you're just going to be using this for myth, why bother installing gnome? [20:06] settings accessories multimedia [20:07] i won't be using it just for that... [20:07] there you go. [20:07] ok [20:07] It may be months before I figure out how to use myth...wanted a working maching while I figured it out [20:07] :) [20:07] page underneatch is still the locked screen but I have a mouse now [20:08] sweet... [20:08] got synaptic [20:08] that's strange. Anyway, the easy way to add gnome is to use mythbuntu control centre. Second easiest way is syantpic. [20:10] gnome: Depends:swfdec-mozilla but it is not going to be installed [20:10] synaptic not working as per above reason... [20:11] control center attempt ensuing? [20:11] I would think control centre would likely have the same problem... I'd switch to googling that message. [20:11] ok...will do...I closed synaptic and black screened maching [20:11] e [20:12] I'll bet overscan is preventing you from seeing the menu bar along the top. [20:12] qwebirc92665: check out bug 542404 [20:12] Bug 542404 in meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) "Package "gnome" is uninstallable due to conflicting dependencies on epiphany and swfdec-mozilla" [Low, Confirmed] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/542404 [20:13] I appreciate your help, thus far...but right now I'm bricked... [20:13] changing repo's seemed to fix it for at least one user. [20:13] will check on bug [20:13] you're at a blank screen. alt-tab take you to anything? [20:14] ok...I haven't done anything with repositories yet...couldn't figure out how to get out of tv...as was booting into tv... [20:14] no...alt tab fails [20:14] keyboard might be useful if you can't reach the menu bar with your mouse: http://www.xfce.org/documentation/4.0/manuals/xfwm4#wm-keybindings [20:14] [www.xfce.org] Xfce - Window Manager [20:14] that's probably what I hit accidentally earlier [20:15] no keyboard input working just black screen going to have to hard reset [20:16] crud...just got it unstuck I think right as I hit pwr but [20:16] heh or maybe it was the button press that unstuck it. [20:16] That was also a thought...who knows [20:18] this window is busy and not responding do you want to terminate the app myth tv front end [20:18] yes [20:18] sure. [20:19] still haven't figured out what series of keystrokes is getting me out of that...much fun [20:19] now where is control center? [20:19] next time try alt+f1 or alt+f2. Control centre should be in one of the menus ... um, system? gotta go look [20:20] I seem to think it was f but then could not recreat [20:20] will try alt next inevitable time [20:20] now I understand why you asked why I wanted to install gnome...because it does have a desktop [20:20] from what I could see there was no desktop, earlier... [20:20] just the tv menus [20:22] yeah... different people handle the system differently. It was decided long ago that mythbuntu would be treated more like a "install and forget it" appliance. Well, as install and forget as myth / linux can be, anyway. [20:22] installing updates...maybe will fix some issues [20:23] sorry... back after while. [20:23] no problem...take care... === formol is now known as formolQC
