HmpfCBRI do not know, there was for some time some home brewn python script, but that caused a lot of trouble and was ditched, if I recall correctly. Now all goes via kpackagekit I think.00:00
anoneemouseRadSurfer: software updates are now built into kpackagekit...00:01
Seipherany chance i could get some help trying to install nvidia driver?00:01
anoneemousethe updates always just launched a part of kpackagekit anyway iirc00:01
anoneemouseSeipher: look for a driver in apt00:01
Seipheraptitude?00:02
anoneemousei used to install the driver manually but it would break everytime my kernel upgraded00:02
anoneemousepackagekit00:02
HmpfCBRSeipher: or you go to KMenu -> Applications -> System -> Additional Drivers00:02
anoneemouseif you dont find one you might find a ppa that you can add on launchpad00:02
Seipheri went to nvidias site00:03
Seipherthere is a linux driver there... but it says to use the systems if its available00:03
anoneemouseSeipher: what driver does your model use00:04
anoneemouseif its a new card you can just install nvidia-current00:04
HmpfCBRanoneemouse: normally jockey detects that by itself00:04

TSKHmmm...  I'm havin' troubles getting Blender game engine, XBMC, and Boxee to run since upgrading to Maverick.00:35
TSKPossibly other software, but those are the ones I've found thus far.00:35

TSKanoneemouse: Aye.  My Boxee bombs out brutally, too.  Am in chat with the XBMC devs right now about the crash in XBMC.  Probably related.  :)00:45
osiristhevirusbut they dont have tversity for linux lol ive been looking around for a few days now.00:45
anoneemouseosiristhevirus: try looking here: http://www.ps3news.com/forums/ps3-linux-news/dlna-media-server-linux-ps3-streaming-76584.html00:47
anoneemouseyour looking for a dlna streaming app for linux00:47

KimLaRouxI winz!01:22
KimLaRouxMoving a working kubuntu system from one hard drive to another using tar, it works!01:22
KimLaRouxwoots01:22
RadSurferie. it worked this time.01:32
RadSurferWish Kubuntu had good sense to REMEMBER display settings.01:32
=== _Nertil is now known as Nertil
RadSurferdoes ANYONE know what to edit to get Kubuntu to use PROPER display settings? Used to Xorg.conf or somesuch01:35
KimLaRouxdo you have a nvidia card?01:35
RadSurferNot sure what it is; but on TWO different boxes I have the exact IDENTICAL problem: Screen Size is NOT remembered01:36
RadSurferapparently, LOTS of people complain about same issue in (K)ubuntu01:36
RadSurferSurely, there must be a file that can be hand-edited to FIX this!01:36
RadSurferwhat stupid idiot thought to have Screen settings always use MAXIMUM resolution anyway!01:37
prowerhello :> i'm having an unusual problem with dosbox in kde (maverick) that i didn't have with gnome...occasionally when started the mouse will no longer move at all, and i need to both log out _and_ restart the x server to get it to work again :< has anyone else seen that?01:37
KimLaRouxyelling is probably not the best way to... oh just nevermind, insulting people wont help, you know01:37
RadSurferIt is the only worse problem I have yet to solve. :-)01:38
RadSurferthere is an X11 directory.01:38
RadSurferSure something in there must reflect what must be "tweaked"01:38
RadSurfersince I have 2 boxes, I can experiment on 101:39
KimLaRouxDo you even know what type of graphic processor you have?01:39
RadSurferthere must be a terminal utility I can run that would help ID it.01:40
RadSurferIt's an old box; no telling whats in there.01:40
RadSurferworks fine. provided I _manually_ set resolution @ each boot.01:40
RadSurferwas nice when you could just edit Xorg.conf or whatever it was01:41
KimLaRouxtry  #sudo lshw -c video01:42
RadSurferwhy wouldn't it REMEMBER system-settings in the first place anyway? valid ques.01:42
KimLaRouxthis should list the type of graphic card you have01:42
RadSurferoutput -->  product: NV18 [GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x]01:43
KimLaRouxAh!01:43
KimLaRouxgreat01:43
KimLaRouxhave you installed the nvidia drivers?01:43
RadSurferNope.01:43
KimLaRouxwhy not?01:43
RadSurferScary stuff for us novices :-)01:43
KimLaRouxnah01:43
KimLaRouxyou have kubuntu 10.04?01:43
RadSurferYes.01:44
RadSurfer10.10 doesn't like my old box apparently.01:44
KimLaRouxgo to Applications > System > Additional Drivers01:44
RadSurfersay what dude?01:44
KimLaRouxin the system menu... like window's start menu01:45
RadSurfer"applications"?01:45
RadSurferI don't think we're on same page yet.01:45
RadSurferI'm sorry.01:45
KimLaRouxit's the second tabs in the menu, no?01:45
RadSurferOk I see now.01:46
KimLaRoux=)01:46
RadSurferthat last item does not exist here. 'Additional Drivers'01:46
KimLaRoux=O01:46
RadSurferApplication -> System, has not 'A' items01:46
KimLaRouxit might be hidden somewhere else in the application tab... this menu is a mess01:47
RadSurfer1st item starts with 'D'01:47
KimLaRouxit could be under Settings01:47
KimLaRouxor Utilities01:47
RadSurferyou're guessing. but thats for trying.01:47
KimLaRouxoh and btw, apps are not always listed by name01:47
KimLaRouxmight be hiden lower in the list01:47
RadSurferutility does not deal with Hardware issues01:47
RadSurferahah!01:48
RadSurfertyping "drivers" into search box says "Hardware Drivers" <-- helps to recognize that01:48
RadSurferOk, thats running. :)01:49
RadSurfer"graphics drivers version 96" recommended/not activated.01:50
KimLaRouxyay!01:50
KimLaRouxis there only one?01:50
RadSurferonly 1 listed, yes.  Thank you for being patient.01:50
KimLaRoux=)01:50
KimLaRouxactivate it01:50
RadSurferGulp.01:50
KimLaRouxit should install Nvidia's drivers01:50
KimLaRouxit's all automatic =P01:50
RadSurferNot right now. I know how to find this.01:50
RadSurferI will do smart thing: backup critical things, then consider running this.01:51
RadSurferme thinks, I will perform this operation on my #2 box first, to learn what to expect.01:51
RadSurferjust a moment.01:51
KimLaRouxwell, once this is installed, you should then have a application named "nvidia x server settings" or something similar in your Settings menu01:52
KimLaRouxthis application is just like Nvidia driver settings in windows; it writes the right settings where they should01:52
RadSurferKimLaRoux: http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/7125/nvidiadriver.png01:54

RadSurferme go see if this ruins #2 box now.01:55
RadSurferHmmm. Box #2 has that dialog box: _empty_.  Well pooh.01:57
KimLaRouxthat sucks01:58
RadSurferI still hate to think that Ku can't remember my screen size! only major issue I have now.01:58
KimLaRouxhave you tried #sudo lshw -c video?01:58
RadSurferI got filesharing to work between both boxes, and everything!01:58
RadSurferon #2 yet? no01:58

Kalidarnbecause on windows it could use that ritelight thing and also autofocus04:14
Seipherhmmm04:15
Seipheri havn't had a cam in a long time04:15

KalidarnSeipher: that's probably most relevant to setting up TRIM http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1596214 on ubuntu04:31
KimLaRouxyou can't drag select tracks in amarok, it resizes the window -_-'04:31
Seipherim actually using the ubuntu 10.04 server lts04:32
Kalidarnalso Seipher you might ask "how can i test TRIM is working" well here's the answer to that http://pastebin.com/MrNMGsMD04:32
Seipherbecause i was hoping i could figure out how to set up my own ftp / web host / a=04:33
Seiphersweet04:33
Kalidarnas you can see there i created a test file, i read the sectors then i deleted the file read the sectors (they were still filled) then i synced and they all changed to 0000 0000 0000 000004:33
Kalidarnthat should get you started :)04:33
Seipherlol started04:33
Kalidarnssds have a few caveats and if you do not look after them they wear out quicker ^_^ but they are new technology especially in linux04:34
Seipherquite the intro04:34
Kalidarninfact windows 7 is pretty much the best OS when it comes to SSDs04:34
Kalidarnas they've set it up to do everything automatically04:34
Seipheragred04:34
Seipheragreed*04:34
Kalidarnthat's one thing microsoft has got right04:34
Kalidarnyou might hear people say to disable journaling, don't do that04:34
Kalidarnit's not necessary and it's stupid04:34
Kalidarnunless you have a UPS04:35
Seipheri have a UPS04:35
Seipherhehe04:35
Kalidarnthen i guess you could get away with it ^_^04:35
Seiphernot sure what journaling is anyway :)04:35
KalidarnEXT3 and EXT4 have it04:35
Seiphergotcha04:35
Seipheroh wait04:35
Kalidarnit helps the filesystem know what it was doing if there's a sudden power failure04:35
Seipheri think i remember seeing that when i installed linux04:35
Seipherwas an option04:35
Kalidarnyeah it's a filesystem04:36
Seipheryah04:36
Kalidarnbut only EXT4 seems to work with TRIM when you add the discard option to fstab04:36
Kalidarnalso you might need ubuntu 10.1004:36
Seipherfstab?04:36
Kalidarnbecause you need a newer kernel04:36
Kalidarn /etc/fstab04:36
Kalidarnit's in that last pastebin what you need.04:36
Seiphertype that in terminal?04:37
Seipher/etc/fstab?04:37
KalidarnUUID=7225aad3-aa04-4594-b1ca-aea56116873d /               ext4 errors=remount-ro,noatime,discard 0       104:37
Kalidarnit's a configuration file so "nano /etc/fstab"04:37
Kalidarnyou need to put the ,discard option there noatime is probably a good idea too04:38
Kalidarnit's automatically generated when you install ubuntu, but it does not know to put ,discard there because you have a SSD04:38
Seiphernot sure if its necessary since i have linux on my 250gb hdd04:38
Kalidarnit's not04:38
Seiphermy sdd just has the MBR that points to linux04:39
Kalidarnthen it's only necessary if linux is installed ON a ssd :)04:39
Seiphersdd = ssd*04:39
Kalidarni had my windows 7 on a ssd and linux on a normal disk, but it felt so bad04:39
Seipheractually both works04:39
Seiphersolid disk drive04:39
Kalidarnwindows being so fast, and everything else being so slow04:39
Seipherhaha04:39
Seipheryah04:39
Seipherwell linux is so small04:39
Kalidarnso i bought a second one04:39
Seipherits running really well04:39
FloodBotK2Seipher: Please don't flood, use http://paste.ubuntu.com to paste, don't use Enter as punctuation.04:39
Seipheron a regular hdd04:39
Kalidarnyeah but i don't recommend using partitioning and having two OSes on a ssd04:40
Seipheryah its seperated04:40
Kalidarnbecause as i said TRIM works with the kernel and it cannot work if it can't read the filesystem (and even if it can i dont think it works across partitions)04:40
Seipherwindows 7 is on my intel ssd and linux on seagate 250gb hdd04:40
Kalidarnso thats why you have 3 partitions a teeny tiny small 100MB one for /boot and the rest for /04:40
Kalidarnmaybe a swap one but my swap never gets used as i have 6GB of RAM04:40
Seipherahhh is that what swap was for04:40
Seipherlol i have 6gb of ram as well04:41
Seipherthats why it wanted 1gb for swap file04:41
Seipherswap must be virtual memory04:41
moetunesyep04:41
Kalidarnit's used when you run out of RAM04:41
Seipheryah04:41
KimLaRouxRight, and now Amarok crashed on me04:41
Seiphersame as virtual memory in windows04:42
KalidarnKimLaRoux: what were you doing with it?04:42
Kalidarnwhen it crashed04:42
KimLaRouxI started typing "nir..." in the search box of my library04:42
Kalidarnhmm okay04:42
KimLaRouxand it crashed while I was typing oO04:42
Kalidarnthat isn't good :)04:42
Kalidarninstall amarok-dbg04:42
KimLaRouxit's like, the first time EVER that amarok crashes on me04:42
Kalidarni do know a way to make it crash ;)04:43
KimLaRouxoh cool, how does this debug tool works?04:43
Kalidarnhave a huge collection and on a network filesystem04:43
Kalidarnand close ;)04:43
Kalidarnit will destroy a thread that is being used :D04:43
Kalidarnbut it's been fixed04:43
Kalidarnin the git version which im using04:43
Seipherlol04:44
Seipherok04:44
Seipherso i notice if i mouse wheel up and down i change between desktops04:44
KalidarnKimLaRoux:  just digging up the page04:45
Kalidarnits quite easy to debug KDE applications04:45
Seipherhmm04:46
KimLaRouxthanks for the tip04:47
Kalidarnhttp://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Debugging_%28documentation%2904:48
Kalidarnthat's the amarok one04:48
Kalidarnthere's a "meaningful backtrace" one too04:48
Seipherdo you use quassel for irc?04:49
Kalidarnyeah i just switched over to it it's nice04:49
Kalidarnand it's multi platform too, windows linux macosx etc04:49
Seipheroh nice04:50
Kalidarnnot as fully featured other clients but it seems the developers have thought it out04:50
Seipherits kind of bland04:50
Seipherbut im sure they have skins for it04:50
Kalidarnwith having a core a client04:50
Kalidarnyou can customise the colours to whatever you want04:50
Seipherfigures04:50
Seipherso under amorak04:50
Seiphercan't figure out how to see my other hard drives04:50
Seipheri have a 2tb drive with music04:51
Kalidarnis it mounted Seipher?04:53
Seipherhaha probably not04:53
Kalidarnif it's a NTFS disk you will need NTFS-3G04:53
Seipheri use all ntfs04:53
Kalidarnhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/MountingWindowsPartitions04:53
KalidarnThe ntfs-3g packages comes pre-installed in currently supported versions of Ubuntu and most NTFS devices should work out of the box without further configuration.04:54
Seipherwell then i should have ntfs-3g with 10.04?04:54
Kalidarnyep04:54
Kalidarnso u can just install ntfs-config04:54
Seiphernow to open it! lol04:55
Seipherfound it04:55
Kalidarnor if u know what label it is04:55
Kalidarnie do fdisk -l04:55
Kalidarnthen ls -la /dev/disk/by-uuid/04:55
Kalidarnand then put in the fstab entry for it04:56
Seipheryah i read about labeling of linux04:56
Seipherbut... i can't remember it all in 1 read04:56
Kalidarnyah that UUID stuff is so much better :)04:56
Kalidarnthan what we used to have04:56
Seipherlik sda1(0) or something04:56
Kalidarnyeah it will have a symbolic link04:56
Seiphersata disk 1 partiion 104:56
Seipheror something04:56
Kalidarnlrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  10 2010-10-31 13:06 98E66610E665EF46 -> ../../sdc04:57
Kalidarn104:57
Kalidarnsomething like that04:57
Seipherjust gonna install the ui04:57
Kalidarnlrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  10 2010-10-31 13:06 E23AFA063AF9D78D -> ../../sdc204:57
Kalidarntrue04:57
Seipherntfs-config04:57
Kalidarnyou can do that i haven't used that04:57
Kalidarni hope it mounts by UUID04:57
Seipherwe will see :)04:58
Kalidarntrue04:58
Kalidarnwe used to mount /dev/blah to /mnt/blah04:58
Kalidarnbut the problem with that is, if the machine reboots and the disks change order in the BIOS04:58
Seiphernow that is true04:58
Kalidarnthey may be given different labels like /dev/sdb instead of c04:58
Seipherwhich is why i didn't like that04:58
Kalidarnthat's why we have UUIDs04:58
Kalidarnwhich are set by the filesystem04:58
Kalidarnu can change it with tune2fs -U /dev/sdb <NEW UUID>04:59
Kalidarnbut do not do that :)04:59
Kalidarnand don't do it while its mounted04:59
Seipheri just installed gksudo04:59
Seipherand ntfs-config04:59
Kalidarnyup04:59
Seipherso i have opened it up04:59
moetunesit is kdesudo in kubuntu04:59
Seipherlol wow04:59
Seipherthat was to easy04:59
Kalidarnyeah don't use gksudo05:00
Seipherso ummm i just mounted all my drives lol05:00
Kalidarnthat's a gnome dependency05:00
Seipherdamn05:00
Seipherit worked lol05:00
Kalidarnand is GTK+ :P05:00
Kalidarnyou want kdesudo05:00
FloodBotK2Kalidarn: Please don't flood, use http://paste.ubuntu.com to paste, don't use Enter as punctuation.05:00
Seipherbut i have gnome and kde installed both i believe05:00
Kalidarnoh :P05:00
Seiphernot by choice05:00
moetunesif it worked... :)05:00
Seipherjust didn't have any clue what i was doing05:00
Seiphersoooo...05:00
Seipherlo05:00
Seipherlol this is what happens when you don't know what your doing05:00
Seipheryou check / install it all05:00
moetunesheh it'll be fine05:00
Kalidarntrue05:01
Seipheri really want to learn though05:01
Kalidarnleast now u get to choose? :)05:01
Kalidarndo you like KDE or gnome more?05:01
Seipherkde05:01
Seipherfits my windows style more05:01
Kalidarn^_^ true05:01
Seiphergrew up on windows05:01
Seiphergnome was wack05:01
Seipherlol05:01
Kalidarnit has a few bugs prolly less more than gnome05:01
FloodBotK2Seipher: Please don't flood, use http://paste.ubuntu.com to paste, don't use Enter as punctuation.05:01
Kalidarnbut gnome was ultra conservative and has nothing cool05:01
Seipherwell05:01
Seipheri was THIS CLOSE """" to uninstalling ubuntu05:02
Kalidarnalso KDE is much newer (KDE4 wa almost a complete re-write) so it's been set up nicely for future versions05:02
Seipherbecause i couldn't figure out what i was doing and there wasn't much help on installing the gui interface05:02
Kalidarnyeah apt-get install kubuntu-desktop ;)05:02
Seipheri basicaly did a search on my phone for commands05:02
Seipherand found aptitude05:02
Seipherlol yah kali05:02
Kalidarnah yeah aptitude is also used05:02
Seipherbut when you don't know what your doing... how do you find that05:02
Kalidarnhow old are you btw?05:03
Seipher2605:03
moetunes!manual05:03
ubottuThe Ubuntu Manual will help you become familiar with everyday tasks such as surfing the web, listening to music and scanning documents. With an emphasis on easy to follow instructions, it is suitable for all levels of experience. http://ubuntu-manual.org/05:03
Kalidarnah :P i've been playing with linux since i was 15 :P05:03
Kalidarn(22) now05:03
Seiphernice05:03
Seipheri should have started earlier05:03
Seipherbut i was like... why... lol05:03
Kalidarnits nice once you get to know it05:03
Seipheri will say the modifications of it are unending05:03
Kalidarni find though because i LIKE kde i actually feel like reporting bugs and getting back traces when shit crashes05:04
Kalidarnbecause i actually like contributing my time, when it does because i can see a lot of other people do :P05:04
Kalidarni've also kinda found that #kubuntu has lesss newbs in it than #ubuntu which is constant spammage05:04
Seipheri see05:04
Seipheri can tell you this05:04
Kalidarnalso in a lot of the KDE application channels the devs often help you05:05
Seipher99% of your normal users are not going to switch if it installs into a cmd prompt window05:05
Kalidarnit shouldn't do that05:05
Seipherwell... maybe it was because i installed the server05:05
Kalidarnthat would only happen if you type server05:05
Kalidarnyeah05:05
Seipherlol05:05
Seiphernvm then05:05
Kalidarnserver install does that, and that's fine lol05:05
Seipheryah i was like wtf05:05
Seipheri don't know how to use the server yet05:05
Seipherhelp! haha05:05
FloodBotK2Seipher: Please don't flood, use http://paste.ubuntu.com to paste, don't use Enter as punctuation.05:05
Kalidarnyou should have used the desktop disc ^_^05:05
Seipheri wanted to actually learn though05:06
Kalidarnor the DVD which is both :) that's true05:06
Seipherim interested in ftp support05:06
Seipherand web support05:06
Kalidarni learnt using gentoo then got lazy and decided i liked an easier distribution05:06
Kalidarnand i really like Debian's package manager so ubuntu/kubuntu is the logical choice for me05:06
Kalidarni hate rpm distributions until recently they sucked at removing 'orphan dependencies'05:06
Kalidarnie when you install something, and it installs things that aren't needed anymore05:07
Kalidarnalso aptitude is nice05:07
Kalidarni used to use fedora when it used to use apt-get05:07
Seipherok so i mounted my drives05:07
Seipheropened amarok05:07
Kalidarngo cat /etc/fstab for me05:07
Kalidarnim interested to see if the windows mount is done by UUID05:08
moetunes!paste05:08
ubottuFor posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://tinyurl.com/imagebin | !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic.05:08
Seipherin windows you can usualy just right click my computer and click on manage05:09
Seipherdisk manager05:09
Kalidarnyeah, i just want to know how the program configures the config05:09
Seipheroh no idea05:09
Kalidarnif you do cat /etc/fstab05:09
Kalidarnit will show you each mount05:09
Kalidarnsomething like05:09
KalidarnUUID=87feb1aa-9617-4911-99e1-cf628f466eea /mnt/sdb1      ext4    defaults,user 0 105:09
FloodBotK2Kalidarn: Please don't flood, use http://paste.ubuntu.com to paste, don't use Enter as punctuation.05:09
Kalidarnthat's for an EXT4 disk05:09
Seipheroh yah05:10
Seipheri see that05:10
Seiphershows the Ubuntu Linux 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx 64 Bit on Dual Monitors with Twin View Nvidia Graphics05:10
Kalidarnfor NTFS disks it should be a short one like UUID=98E66610E665EF4605:10
Seipheryah it is05:10
Kalidarnthen the mount point /mnt/windows then the filesyste ntfs-3g05:10
Kalidarnah that's good then if it' uses UUIDs05:10
Seipher1 sec i havn't answered a question yet hehe... i could take a screen shot and send it!05:11
Kalidarnuse ksnapshot05:11
KalidarnSeipher: there's two things to remember about linux, also05:12
Kalidarnthe commandline is not necessarily harder05:12
Kalidarnits a lot easier to direct someone to input a command05:12
Seipheri see05:12
Kalidarnthan tell them where to click05:12
Kalidarnalso the other thing is 'using the commandline' has this stigma about it05:12
Kalidarnof being a geek05:13
Kalidarnwhich unfortunately isn't really relevant either, because some stuff is a lot easier to do that way05:13
Seipherhaha05:13
Seipheryah i do feel pretty geek using this command line05:13
Seipherbut... i like to be a geek "tilts glasses"05:13
Kalidarnfor example05:13
Kalidarnusing regular expression lanague to say rename some files in a bash shellscript05:14
Kalidarnis probably easier than using this GUI program http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Screenshots.php05:14
Seipherhow would you like me to send you this screen shot?05:14
Kalidarnimageshack.us will be fine05:15
Kalidarnhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_expression :P05:15
Seipherhttp://img121.imageshack.us/i/fstab.png/05:16
Seiphergood luck if you can read that05:17
Kalidarnyeah i clicked on direct05:17
Kalidarnhttp://img121.imageshack.us/img121/1404/fstab.png05:17
Seipherhow the hell05:17
Seipherlol05:17
Kalidarnthat's good ntfs-config does everything as it's supposed to05:17
Kalidarnoh it looks like your not using graphics effects05:17
Kalidarnyou using nvidia or ATI?05:18
Seiphernvidia05:18
Seipheri did install the nvidia driver05:18
Seipherto get my dual monitor working05:18
Kalidarnalso turn off blur05:18
Seipherthey called it something funning like xanurama05:18
Kalidarnthere seems to be a problem with blur and CPU usage05:18
Kalidarnon nvidia05:18
Seipherlocation?05:18
Kalidarnsystem settings05:18
Kalidarndesktop effects05:18
Kalidarnall effects05:19
Kalidarnit might be on by default05:19
Seipherthis under the Nvidia x server settings gui?05:19
Kalidarn"Blurs the background behind semi-transparent windows"05:19
Kalidarnno this is under KDE's system-settings05:19
Kalidarnie click on the K then Computer05:19
Seiphernow your talking my langauge!05:20
Seipherlol05:20
Kalidarnunder Compositing State05:20
Kalidarnit should say "Desktop effects are innactive" because it looks like from that screenshot you have them off05:20
Kalidarnclick the check box that tells you to enable them05:21
Seipherim looking05:21
Seipheralright so k> computer>system settings05:22
Seipherthen im lost05:23
ussher_anyone know how to view the chat history for skype on kubuntu?  I read the docs here "http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/support/user-guides/skype-for-mac/skype-features/" and it says go to “Contacts” > “View Chat History”. but that doesnt exist on the kubuntu version i have.05:26
ussher_i did find this "skype log viewer" http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/skype_log_view.html but its for windows.05:26
ussher_the skype log files are .dbb files if that helps.05:28
epoxyHello.. When I browse files in Dolphin or a file menu from a program, 90% of the time it is really slow browing through directories05:30
epoxylike 30 second refresh times and it blocks the rest of the desktop processes05:30
epoxyany idea how to fix this?05:30
ussher_epoxy: same in konqueror?05:30
moetunesepoxy:  start dolphin from konsole to see any errors05:31
KalidarnSeipher: in system settings look for desktop effects05:31
Kalidarnussher_: yeah i think its some sort of binary format05:32
Kalidarnor database so that makes it hard05:32
Seipheryah05:32
Seipherim there05:32
Kalidarnu can get kopete to connect to skype05:32
Seipherplaying with all sorts of fun stuff05:32
Seiphermaking stuff blow up!05:32
Kalidarnand then get it to do logging (skype has to be open for it to work)05:32
KalidarnSeipher: turn off Blur05:32
Kalidarnif you have nvidia proprietary drivers05:32
ussher_cheers Kalidarn, I would have thought that there would be a button in skype, like there is in pidgin to read old chat messages.05:32
Kalidarni found a CPU problem05:33
Kalidarnthere is a button in skype05:33
Seipherblur is not an option under general or all effects tab for me05:33
Seipherso i assume i do not have it05:33
Kalidarnoh maybe then your card cannot do it05:33
Seipheri have a GTX 48005:33
Kalidarnoh then it should05:33
Kalidarnbecause i have a GTX 47005:33
Seipherbut i installed the default driver05:33
Kalidarnprobably is using noaveu05:34
Seipherfrom aptitude for nvidia05:34
Kalidarnnot nvidia-proprietary05:34
Seipheri installed the nvidia driver from their site05:34
Kalidarnwhich is a closed source binary driver from nvidia05:34
Seipherbut had no idea how to run the install05:34
epoxyI take that back. When I open dolphin is usually acts ok. It's mainly when browsing with the open/save dialogs05:34
Kalidarnhmmm :P your best getting it from the repositories :)05:34
Seipherthere you go with big words again05:34
Seipherlol05:34
Kalidarnie from the ubuntu servers05:34
Seiphergotcha05:34
Kalidarnthat way it can update and configure and manage it05:35
Seipherso cmos > terminal > bash > all same thing05:35
Seipherjust different name for different OS\05:35
Kalidarncmos?05:35
Seipherwindows05:35
Kalidarnno not really05:35
Seiphercommand prompt05:35
KalidarnCMOS is nothing like those other things05:35
moetunesbash is a program not a terminal05:36
Seipherwell it definitely doesn't have the vast features05:36
Seipherahh05:36
Seipherok05:36
KalidarnCMOS is a non volotile BIOS memory05:36
Kalidarnhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonvolatile_BIOS_memory :P05:36
Kalidarni think you mean MS-DOS05:36
Seipheryah05:36
Seipherthat05:36
Seiphersorry05:36
Kalidarn^_^05:36
Kalidarnthe CMOS is the thing that tests your memory when you press the power button05:37
Seiphercmos sort of replaced ms-dos back in xp... in a way it was the only way to do a command05:37
Seipheryou can actually do full commands in it though05:37
Seiphercopy files05:37
Seiphermove files05:37
Seiphersimple stuff05:37
Kalidarnno that is MS-DOS05:37
Kalidarnor DOS05:37
Kalidarnie Disk Operating System05:37
Seipherahh05:37
Seipherok05:37
Seipherthen i am mistaken05:37
KalidarnCMOS stands for Complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS)05:38
Kalidarnand is  chip on the motherboard05:38
Seipheroh05:38
Seipherok05:38
Seipherdidn't know that was an actual chip05:39
Kalidarn^_^05:39
Seipherdo you use cairo-dock05:39
Seipher?05:39
Kalidarnyou do not use the CMOS within windows05:39
Kalidarnit is operating independant05:39
Seipherwhere are your applications installed05:40
Kalidarnie the CMOS is where you press Delete or F1105:40
Seipheryah05:40
Kalidarnwhen your booting your machine up05:40
Kalidarnand it lets you set boot devices, ram timings and things like that05:40
Kalidarnthat actually is saved to a chip not to a hard disk05:40
Kalidarnhttp://www.pctipstricks.com/pictures/AwardBIOS-CMOS-Setup-mainscreen.jpg :P that thing05:40
Kalidarnyours probably looks like that05:40
Seipheryah05:41
Seipheri am very familiar with bios05:41
Kalidarnand it's going to be probably phased out for UEFI05:41
Kalidarn:) some day05:41
Kalidarnif you have a mac it already has :P05:41
Seipherim constantly going through bios at work05:41
Kalidarnthat is one of the things i love about macs actually05:41
Kalidarnyou do not need grub05:41
Kalidarnbecause it's EFI it's able to boot the OS05:42
Seipherthats another thing im gonna have to learn05:42
Seipheris how to manipulate grub05:42
Seipheryah windows needs its own loader05:42
Kalidarnactually i think it actually calls grub05:42
Kalidarni forget i don't use linux on my mac :P05:42
Seipherbrb i need food05:42
Seipher:)05:42
Kalidarnbut you can have an EFI menu which is nicer than a grub one05:43
Kalidarnboots straight into that, then that boots the OS05:43
Kalidarnas opposed to going through all the other stuff that it  normally does05:43
Seipherthat would be nice05:45
Seipherright now it boots sort of looks like bios05:46
Seipheror still in post05:46
Seipherwhich i would think it has to since it looks at the mbr05:46
KalidarnMBR is a partition format it has nothing to do wit it05:47
Kalidarnoh05:47
Kalidarnyeah lol sorry  :P05:47
Kalidarni misread that05:47
Seipherhmmm05:47
Kalidarni thought you said "looks like MBR" :P05:47
Seipherhehe no05:47
Kalidarnlol05:47
Seipheri do know how to look at the MBR though!05:47
Seipherhehe05:47
Seipheryou get a huge hammer05:47
Kalidarnand then you use GPT05:47
Seipherno no just kidding05:48
Kalidarnbut unfortunaly if your using windfailure05:48
Kalidarnyou cannot use GPT if you want to boot05:48
Kalidarnunless you also have EFI05:48
Kalidarngrub lets you boot from GPT using BIOS :D05:48
Seipheryah05:48
Seipheri read a bit about that05:48
Seipherstill have yet to use GPT05:48
Kalidarnyou have to have it if you want filesystems over 2TB05:49
Seipheryou can royally screw stuff up with software like that05:49
Kalidarnas you can't do that with MBR05:49
Seiphercorrupt your drives05:49
Kalidarnhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table05:49
Seipherif you don't know what your doing05:49
Kalidarnwell you back stuff up first obviously05:49
Seipherand i definitely dont' know enough05:49
Kalidarnthen i'd boot with a livecd like http://gparted.sourceforge.net/05:49
Kalidarnformat it how i like05:49
Kalidarnthen install my operating systems05:50
KalidarnOS installers do not let you often set GPT05:50
Kalidarnubuntu doesn't :P05:50
Seipherthat is true05:50
Seipherwindows comes with its own little partitioning thing05:50
Kalidarnyeah it doesn't let you do it either05:50
Seipheryah05:50
Seipherplus it thinks everything is primary05:50
Kalidarnwell not as nicely05:50
Seipherwhen you can really only have 4 primary05:50
Kalidarnlogical partitions are crap05:50
Kalidarnthat's why you use GPT05:50
Kalidarnand you can have heaps of primaries05:51
Seipherbut you can't physicaly have more than 4 primaries05:51
Seipherit may call them that05:51
Seipherbut it is logical05:51
Kalidarnits just windows doesn't know how to boot off GPT with a BIOS05:51
Kalidarnyou can05:51
Kalidarnwith GPT05:51
Kalidarnand if you have EFI05:51
FloodBotK2Kalidarn: Please don't flood, use http://paste.ubuntu.com to paste, don't use Enter as punctuation.05:51
Kalidarnon windows it will let you05:51
Kalidarnfor example on my macbook i could05:51
Seipherhmmm are you sure... i believe i read that was the actualy hardware limitations05:51
Seipherof a hard drive05:52
Seiphersome things call it primary05:52
Kalidarnnope05:52
Seipheri'll have to go back and re-read that one05:52
KalidarnIf the disk exceeds 2 TiB - the maximum partition size representable using the 32-bit LBAs of the legacy MBR (assuming a 512 byte block size) - the size of this partition is marked as 2 TiB, ignoring the rest of disk.05:53
Kalidarnthat's why MBR sucks :)05:53
Kalidarnalso GPT had redundancy information too05:53
Seipheryour 22?05:54
Seipherlol05:54
Seipheramazing05:54
Seipheryou must be going to college for some sort of computer program05:54
Kalidarni have had my own computer since i was 3 :P05:54
Kalidarni am doing a computer science degree this is true but05:54
Kalidarni knew all this before then05:54
Seipheryah i need to go back05:55
Seipherlol i got my degree in business management05:55
Seiphernow i work in IT Security05:55
Kalidarnmy first computer was an IBM 286 AT05:55
Seipherits very difficult05:55
Kalidarn network security?05:55
Kalidarncisco stuff?05:55
Kalidarnsecurity is an interest of mine, but more at a programming level05:55
Kalidarnim not really interested in networking05:56
Kalidarnmy network works that's all i care about05:56
Seipherhehe05:56
Seipherno more of like05:56
Seiphercamera systems05:56
Kalidarnoh05:56
Seiphersecurity05:56
Seipherfire05:56
Kalidarn;)05:56
FloodBotK2Seipher: Please don't flood, use http://paste.ubuntu.com to paste, don't use Enter as punctuation.05:56
Seipherprogramming them05:56
Kalidarnspying on people ^_^05:56
Seipherhehe05:57
Seipherwell...05:57
Seipherinvestigations and stuff05:57
Seipherif someone does something they shouldn't05:57
Seipherwe get a report05:57
Seipherand we basicaly have to try and extract the video and put a report together ourselves05:57
Kalidarni have a camera by my front door05:57
Kalidarnwhich i connect to with a web client05:58
Seipherthere ya go05:58
Kalidarni can see when the tards for halloween come if they do05:58
Kalidarni have a nasty surprise prepared05:58
Seipheri had one when i was in an apt... got tired of my truck getting broke into every other month05:58
Kalidarni hate halloween and i don't want to have anything to do with it05:58
Seipherso are you in the states?05:58
Seipherim in Texas05:58
Kalidarnno australia05:59
Seipherahh05:59
Kalidarnbut consumerism has brought it here05:59
Seipherhehe05:59
Kalidarnas supermarkets have advertised the crap out of those pumpkins05:59
Kalidarnand stuff05:59
Kalidarnthey want it here BAD.05:59
Seipheryah05:59
Kalidarni think its wrong to teach children that they should get candy and if they don't to do vandalism05:59
Seipheri can tell ya right now there isn't many people in america who would be sitting on linux chatting in irc05:59
Kalidarnwhats worse is parents often follow them around to make sure nothing happens to them05:59
Kalidarnits not really celebrated here06:00
Kalidarnthough sometimes you do see people06:00
Seipheri did it occasionaly growing up06:00
Seipherit was fun dressing up06:00
Kalidarnone year when i pretended not to be home, my dad accidentally forgot06:00
Seipherbut yes there are always those cases of kids getting into trouble06:00
Kalidarnand this stupid bitch put a icecream in our letterbox06:00
Kalidarnso this year i have a camera prepared and im going to run out the front door and take a photo of the parents06:00
Seipherhaha06:00
Kalidarnand tell them if any shit happens i will report them to the police for vandalism06:00
Kalidarnas i dont want to have anything to do with it :P06:01
moetunesthis is getting pretty offtopic06:01
Seipherit can be fun06:01
Kalidarnyeah well parties are fine but 'holiday sanctioned vandalism isn't exactly so fun' :P06:01
Kalidarntrue it is offtopic.06:01
Seiphertrue06:01
Seipherso about that location of programs folder06:01
Kalidarnwhat programs folder06:01
Seipherwhere is the location of default programs06:02
Seipherwindows = c:\program files06:02
Kalidarnah in linux and UNIX we have a better system06:02
Landgrafwho can to enable sound in tvttime via pulseaudio?06:02
Kalidarnit's called the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesystem_Hierarchy_Standard06:02
moetunes!pulseaudio06:03
ubottuPulseAudio is a sound server intended as a drop-in replacement for !ESD - See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio for information and installation instructions06:03
Kalidarnwith windows you have a program files directory and everything is dumped in there06:04
Kalidarnbecause linux and unix makes use of 'shared libraries'06:04
Seipheryes06:04
Kalidarnthere's a library directory a bin directory a etc directory for configs etc.06:04
Seipherahhhhh06:04
Landgrafubottu: already see - don't help06:04
ubottuError: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)06:04
Kalidarnapplications things like kde are usually reside in /usr/bin /usr/share/kde4 for example06:05
Seipherwere would terminal reside?06:05
Seipherso i can pin it to my deskto06:05
Seipherp06:05
Kalidarnoh you want to pin the shortcut just drag it from the menu06:05
Kalidarnout06:05
Seipherim using cairdo-dock06:06
Seiphercairo*06:06
Seipheryou can set up your own icons06:06
Seipherits very cool06:06
moetunes /usr/bin/konsole for kdes' terminal06:06
Seipheri just don't know where the fricken terminal file is to add it06:06
Kalidarnit would be in /usr/share/applications/06:06
Seipherthanks moe06:06
Kalidarnthat's what your looking for06:06
Kalidarnno Seipher06:06
Kalidarnit's in /usr/share/applications/06:06
Kalidarn/usr/share/applications/kde4/konsole.desktop06:07
Kalidarnis the shortcut06:07
moetunesthe .desktop file?06:07
Kalidarnyes06:07
moetunesk06:07
Kalidarnthose are shortcusts and from memory you need to point it to that06:07
Kalidarnit it has the icon and all that06:07
Kalidarnalso Seipher certain things in unix systems regarding the gui are standardized and are the same06:07
Kalidarnwhether you use gnome or KDE06:07
Seipheryah i noticed that06:08
Kalidarnthose standards are set out by freedesktop.org06:08
Kalidarnthe .desktop shortcuts thing is one of them06:08
Kalidarn/usr/share/applications/kde4/konsole.desktop06:08
Kalidarnfor example if you open that in a text editor06:08
Kalidarnyou'll see that it contains the type, the binary name so /usr/bin/konsole, the icon, document parth, whether or not to run in a terminal, name under other languages06:10
Kalidarnand category where it should appear in the menu06:10
Seipherthats nifty06:11
Kalidarnfor a user level they will be in /home/username/local/applications06:11
Kalidarnmuch better than the way windows does shortcuts06:12
Seipheryah i noticed i added a file to my desktop folder06:13
Seipherit did not actually display on my desktop06:13
Seipherwas gonna figure that out later though06:13
Kalidarnyeah if u dragged it from the menu out to the desktop06:13
Kalidarnthats what you'd see on the desktop06:13
Seipherhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V58BIo6A1Lo06:15
Seipheri would like to have a lot of those features06:15
Kalidarnoh desktop cubes ive found while pretty06:16
Kalidarnarent all that useful06:16
Seiphervery cool though!06:16
Seipherhehe i want06:16
Kalidarnand yeah i think he's using compiz06:16
Kalidarnbut you do not want to use that if your using KDE06:17
Kalidarnbut KDE can do desktop cubes with its own compositing layer06:17
Seipherhow?06:17
Kalidarnin Desktop Effects > All Effects06:17
Seipherkk06:17
Kalidarnyou can check the shortcut there in System Settings06:17
Seipherim there06:18
Kalidarnit's control F1106:18
Kalidarnu can set a cylinder or a sphere if you want too06:18
SeipherOMG06:18
Seipheri love it! lol06:18
Kalidarni use Present Windows06:18
Kalidarnthat's the most useful one06:18
Kalidarni Ctrl + F806:19
Kalidarnfor all desktops06:19
Kalidarnctrl + F9 for current and F7  present06:19
Seipherwooo06:19
SeipherOOOOOYAH06:19
Seipherhaha thats the goods06:19
Kalidarnespecially if your like me who opens a tonne of stuff06:20
Seipherim actually really impressed with linux06:20
Seipherlol thats why i have multiple monitors06:20
Seipheryou notice how he has 1 desktop spread across 2 monitors06:20
Seipheri spent 30min on that06:21
Kalidarnyeah06:21
Seiphercan't figure it out06:21
KalidarnXinerama i used to use06:21
Kalidarnand twinview i think06:21
Seipheri have both enabled06:21
Kalidarnwhich works nicely with nvidia, its changed06:21
Kalidarnprobably and is a lot easier to configure than it used to be06:21
Seipheryah i read somewhere they said they wouldn't support it because if the 2 monitors are set to different resolutions it would cause big issues06:21
Seipherthey suggested just using gimp06:22
Seipherto cut the image in half06:22
Kalidarni  hate monitors with different sizes06:22
Kalidarninfact i hate dual monitors i prefer one massive one06:22
Kalidarni dont have to move my head06:23
Kalidarnand it's good for movies06:23
Seipherhahah06:23
Kalidarnit's also very good when doing modeling which i for software architecture stuff06:23
KalidarnERM diagrams all that kinda stuff06:23
Kalidarnstuff you prolly haven't seen :P06:24
Seipherthank the good lord!06:24
Seiphernah i am interested in this stuff and should have done it for school06:24
Kalidarnusing like mysql workbench, rational software architect and alike06:24
geekosophermy maverick install doesn't log out cleanly, when I log out, it only shows some message, but not login screen, don't know whether its kdm or x06:24
Seipherbut when i was 18 i didn't know what the hell i wanted06:24
Kalidarnwhat's the message?06:25
geekosopherKalidarn: you asking me?06:25
Kalidarnyeah06:25
moetunesgeekosopher:  using an nvidia card ?06:26
geekosopherKalidarn: it is "(process: 284): GLib-Warning **: getpwuid_r(): gailded due to unknown user id (0)"06:27
geekosopherno nividia card06:27
geekosopheronboard intel graphics06:27
moetunesk06:27
geekosophersome 845G06:27
geekosopher*failed not gailed :)06:28
moetunesgeekosopher:  is your user borked? - does this happen with other users?06:28
geekosophermoetunes: borked meaning?06:29
moetunesborked = 1/2 broken - still works but not well06:29
geekosopherok06:30
geekosopherthe rest is all fine.... so I don't know if its borked06:30
moetunesgeekosopher:  the error is   unknown user id - so in konsole as that user try   id06:31
geekosopheryou want the output of id?06:32
moetunessure06:32
geekosopherjam06:33
geekosopheruid=1000(nitesh) gid=1000(nitesh) groups=1000(nitesh),4(adm),20(dialout),24(cdrom),46(plugdev),112(lpadmin),119(admin),120(sambashare)06:33
geekosopherthis is a clean fresh install of maverick with no hacking06:34
moetunesgeekosopher:  that looks fine - are you autologging in?06:34
geekosopherno06:34
moetunesk06:34
moetunesgeekosopher:  and this happens all the time?06:35
geekosophereverytime06:35
moetuneshave you updated through apt-get?06:35
geekosopheri have to switch over to tty1 login and then give reboot06:35
geekosopherno06:35
geekosopherfresh install from cd06:35
moetunessudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade06:36
geekosopherupdate and upgrade goes fine06:36
moetunessounds like something from the install didn't go right - bad cd burn maybe06:36
geekosopher:(06:37
moetunesmaybe try   sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm   and see if it makes some new config06:37
geekosophersure06:37
moetuneslook for errors while it happens06:37
geekosopherdid 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm' it returned without any errors06:38
moetunesk - try a logout again :)06:38
geekosopherok... will be back06:38
moetunesluck06:38
geekosophermoetunes: no luck :( though I tried a couple of things this time...06:56
geekosopheri tried testing with another user on tty7 (that is just after rebooting) but logging out from there also gave me the same error06:56
moetunesgeekosopher:  I think kdm has a log you can check - X log might have a clue too06:56
moetunesgeekosopher:  does sound like kdm is the prob06:57
geekosopherbut if I am already logged in, and then log in to another user using new session, that new session logs out well06:57
geekosophermoetunes: where do i find this log?06:58
moetunesgeekosopher:  should be in /var/log06:58
moetuneswith the other logs :)06:58
moetunesThe X log is in there too06:59
moetunesI don't think it will be an X issue but you never know...07:00
geekosopherthe kdm.log has a backtrace and it complains about some segmentation fault... server aborting etc., Checking /var/log/Xorg07:05
moetunesgeekosopher:  I would try to reinstall kdm  -  sudo apt-get -reinstall kdm07:08
moetunesiirc07:08
geekosopherok07:09
geekosopherdo you want to have a look at the log before I reinstall?07:10
moetunesgeekosopher:  after a bit of a think - does kdm stop and start ok with   sudo service kdm stop   from a tty?07:11
moetunesit "might" not be kdm  - pays to check I think07:12
geekosopherlet me try... you mean giving kdm start from tty1 right?07:12
moetunesnope07:12
moetunesstop it first07:12
moetunesin say tty2 do   sudo service kdm stop07:12
geekosopherok07:13
moetunesdon't have any running apps in the gui geekosopher07:13
geekosopheri just have a konsole running in gui, is that fine07:13
moetunesand then start it and see if any errors crop up]07:14
moetunesand then start it and see if any errors crop up07:14
geekosophermoetunes: I did stop and then start from tty2, it shows the same error on tty7 but gives me a login screen on tty8... but I guess I did not logout from tty7 becuase this irssi session is still running07:21
geekosopherand no errors on tty207:21
moetuneskdm stop should have killed the X on tty7 afaik07:22
geekosopherwhen I gave stop it showed 'kdm stop/waiting' and then on start 'kdm start/running, process ...' and switched to tty807:22
geekosopheryes, there is no gui on tty7, just that error message07:22
moetunesdoes tty7 still have the gui? - tty8 would be used for a second X server07:23
moetunesk07:23
moetunesso go with the reinstall of kdm then - it seems like that is what is having issues07:23
geekosopherok07:23
moetunesgeekosopher:  did you do the cd check from the live cd menu?07:24
geekosopheryes, it was a shipit cd, and I did cd check before going ahead with the install07:25
moetunesk - seems strange tho - haven't seen anyone else with this issue lateley07:25
geekosopherguess i pick up the rarest of the rare bugs :)07:26
moetunesstuff happens.. :)07:28
elimentalOh grate Ubuntu 11.04 will default to Unity desktop... Doesnt Mark know thats the reason I am here instead of buntu :)07:28
elimentalUbuntu*07:28
moetunesobviously not...07:29
geekosopherdid 'sudo apt-get --reinstall kdm' and it says 'E: Invalid operating kdm'07:29
geekosopherwas the syntax right? let me check manpage07:30
moetunesgeekosopher:  I'm not on a box that uses apt so I can't check07:31
geekosopheri think it should have had a command after the --reinstall option07:33
geekosopheris it ok if I give sudo apt-get --reinstall install kdm?07:33
moetunestry -install07:33
moetunesor not07:34
geekosopheri checked the manpage for apt-get, it does not have any option like -install07:35
moetunesgeekosopher:  yep I was wrong with the -install bit07:35
geekosopherI gave sudo apt-get --reinstall install kdm07:35
moetunesk07:36
geekosopherit installed kdm again07:36
geekosopheri am going to log out and reboot now and see07:36
geekosopherone little thing i observed while reinstalling... it did not download the package from internet, may be it was already there in cache; is it okay? no errors during install though07:38
moetunesgeekosopher:  we repackaged the one in /var/cache/apt/packages before07:39
geekosopherso I guess it is fine, right?07:39
moetunesgeekosopher:  try apt-get clean then update and reinstall maybe07:39
geekosopherok07:39
geekosopherdone, time to log out07:41

peace_ilika: you should use 10 15 gb for /13:13
peace_ilika: for home what you wnat13:13
James147ilika: 10-20 gig for the system + what you want for files13:13
moetunesilika:  I would use 10gb for / some for swap and the rest for home13:13

Spencer_OK, I wanted to get ubuntu, and I have windows xp, so I got the ubuntu Windows installer and installed it, and I rebooted, and It had Windows xp on the boot menu and ubuntu, but when I go to ubuntu, it goes to either power saver mode then black, but the computer is still on, but its just black. or it goes to install ubuntu try ubuntu with out installing menu and its purple, when I click any of those things, it goes black then power sa17:52

Mamaroksinthetek: how silly, why does it give an external link? The Author should upload it to kde-looks.org, without causing that hassle to have to download it first17:53

chuy_maxany ideas what I could be doing wrong?20:36
dhalsimmchuy_max, what is the error message you're getting20:38
chuy_maxdhalsimm, in Konqueror I'm not getting any. I just get a blank page after entering my username and password. kftpgrabber stays here: *** Establishing data connection with 76.79.129.74:30,107...20:39
chuy_maxdhalsimm, filezilla says: Error:Connection timed out. Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing20:40

dhalsimmchuy_max,  could it be from kde's proxy settings?20:41

javier__hi.Got problems when upgrading to Maverick. kNetwork manager is my only program for connecting internet (just removed wicd, that was making problems) and shows "invalid state", though I'm connected to the internet. Someone can help me fixing it?21:45
Mamaroksinthetek: I didn't manage to install it either, but I also gave up a bit fast I think. We should talk to the author and suggest the packages are uploaded to http://kde-look.org instead of putting it on some external server. Also, making the splash screen more compliant with KDE would be a good idea, currently it's not21:51
javier__Hi. got problems with knetwork manager when upgrading to 10.1021:54

chuy_maxhi, do you know how can I change Konqueror's ftp from passive mode to active mode?21:59

yofelok, NM works then, I would look at ~/.xsession-errors for any KNM errors then22:13
javier__yofel: waw! that file is full of lines with errors :)22:15
javier__yofel: Im serching for KNM ones22:15
yofelthat file contains all errors that the GUI applications you start in X would usually send to STDERR on konsole, so it's usually pretty large if you're logging in for a while22:17
javier__but couldnt find the word knetworkmanager there22:18
yofeljavier__: are you using knm or the plasma applet? the plasma applet should be the default for maverick22:20
javier__yofel: I can't find it. But it must be a bug. KNM is the only program I have right now for connecting internet (I removed wicd a while ago) and it says Im not connect. And I am indeed22:20
