zebastianortis( www.freedomainradio.com ) I have a problem, I installed lubuntu and I can't find the necessary keyboard layout configuration settings, namely I need a pan-scandinavian keyboard for icelandic, one that allows me to accent every vowel, how can i get this?00:08
Timo_what's the website link for?00:10
zebastianortisthe greatest philosophical conversation in the world, giving an understanding of why everything is broken and how you can break free, but I still dont know how to change my keyboard language to icelandic00:14
phillwzebastianortis: the only way to modify the keyboard layout with a GUI is to install lxkeymap, it's in the Lubuntu PPA for 10.1000:30
zebastianortissudo apt-get what?00:31
* phillw phew, that some digging up :)00:31
phillwhave you got the ppa?00:32
zebastianortishow do i check from the cli00:32
phillwor even, are you running 10.10?00:32
zebastianortisyes00:32
szczursudo apt-get install lxkeymap00:33
phillwzebastianortis: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lubuntu-desktop/ppa && sudo apt-get update00:34
phillwthanks szczur  I was just coming to call you :D00:34
zebastianortiscan you modify that though00:34
zebastianortisi typed sudo bash and entered my pw at the begining00:34
szczurphillw, i  won't be helpful today :)00:35
phillwzebastianortis: lxkeymap is for mapping keyboards :)00:35

ghostnik11how can i enable quicksearch bar to work in synaptic package manager in lubuntu 10.10 as it is grayed out03:11
phillwghostnik11: it was a design decision to disable it by default because or the extra resources it uses03:15
ghostnik11i got, it sorry about that just had to type: sudo apt-get install apt-xapian-index03:15
phillwghostnik11: you may also need sudo apt-get install libept-dev03:16
ghostnik11phillw: okay will do that right now03:16
phillwif you just click on the magnifying galss to the right, you can use the inbuilt search.03:17
phillw*glass*03:17
ghostnik11phillw: okay, well i am installing right now the libept-dev03:17
ghostnik11so i should get the quicksearch bar back03:18
phillwghostnik11: yeah, you may have to log off and back on for it take effect though.03:18
ghostnik11phillw: okay, thats cool as long as i get it to work03:19
phillwghostnik11: do pop back on and let me know, I'm waiting to write it up on our documents area.03:20
ghostnik11okay, should i do a full restart to make sure03:21
ghostnik11or the log out and log back on is good enough03:21
phillwlog off and on should be enough, if that does not work then do a reboot. let me know which one works.03:21
ghostnik11phillw: it works but it seems like it doesn't when i actually type something in the quick search bar03:25
phillwghostnik11: hmmm..... what happens?03:25
ghostnik11phillw: for ex. in my ubuntu 10.04 when i type something in quicksearch bar in synaptic it eliminates based on the letters in the quick search bar but in lubuntu 10.10 on my dell optiplex gx240 nothing changes, for ex. i typed ftp and i expected to see ftp show up first but nothing changed03:26
phillwJoeMaverickSett: COME HERE !!!!!!!03:27
JoeMaverickSettphillw: i'm here! :'(03:28
ghostnik11phillw: the synaptic does blink once and the the mouse cursor changes to the time watch indicating the computer is reading but nothing occurs03:28
ghostnik11phillw: will test agian right now to see if i get the same result for third time03:28
ghostnik11phillw: it works,03:29
JoeMaverickSettghostnik11: so it's solved now? yes? :D03:29
phillwghostnik11: JoeMaverickSett can reset his VNC,03:29
ghostnik11phillw: i don't get it, after the log out and log back in it didn't work tried 2 then i closed it told you about it and then opened it again and now it works on 3rd and 4th attempt03:30
JoeMaverickSettphillw: i've apt-xapian-index, libept1 and libept-dev if that helps. :D03:30
JoeMaverickSettghostnik11: ^03:30
phillwghostnik11: it does take up resources, which is why it was disabled by default.03:30
JoeMaverickSetti never needed to log in log out, just close the synaptic manager and open it agian, it works.03:30
JoeMaverickSettghostnik11: ^03:31
ghostnik11phillw: well its perfect now, maybe it was because of my network and not the computer the first 2 attempts03:31
JoeMaverickSettphillw: can i go now? :D03:31
* phillw removes the death sentance from JoeMaverickSett03:32
* JoeMaverickSett *sighs*!03:32
phillwghostnik11: I threatened to kill him if his instructions broke your computer :D03:32
* JoeMaverickSett thanks ghostnik11 's computer and lubuntu! ;D03:33

bioterroryou didnt find zen from that walk?18:10
NativeAngelsnot quite18:11
bioterrorfew zenwalk dev's moved to their own Salix OS project18:11
NativeAngelsi tried that also but the dell dont like it18:11
NativeAngelsive also looked at pepermintos but again it gets stuck18:12
bioterrorhahaha18:13
bioterrorthere's no idea in that18:13
bioterrormint already has lxde version18:13
bioterror"but this one is cloude oriented!";D18:13
NativeAngelslets see it lubuntu detects the wireless card18:14
bioterrorwhat kind of card you have?18:14
NativeAngelstrendnet18:14
NativeAngelspimcia18:14
mir1hi! could someone please point me to the sound configuration in lubuntu?18:15
bioterrormir1, what's your problem?18:18
mir1i have no sound18:20
bioterrorwhat says "lspci"?18:20
mir1Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs [SB Live! Value] EMU10k1X18:21
mir1and Input device controller: Creative Labs [SB Live! Value] Input device controller (but I haven't tried the microphone yet)18:22

(affected: 2, heat: 215)" [Medium,Triaged]18:26
mir1aha18:27
NativeAngelsok wireless card detected18:28
NativeAngelsnow lets see how long for full install18:29
bioterrorChanging two things in the /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf file and then kicking alsa (restart alsa, altho im not sure what kick it really needs alsa-utils restart / alsa-utils reset, try whatever or reboot)18:29
bioterrordefaults.pcm.compat 018:29
bioterrordefaults.pcm.minperiodtime 5000 # in us18:29
bioterrorremove those two things from that file and kick alsa and things will work again, digital and analog output both work again on my sblive value.18:29
bioterrorWell, I may have been wrong about what fixed what exactly. Just to push the issue further, I added back those config options and rebooted and everything is still working.18:30
bioterrorI can only guess at this point, that it was enough of the alsa-utils reset / alsact store alsa-utils restart that kicked the cards settings back into the right place.18:30
bioterrorinteresting :D18:30
mir1hmmm, done it, but it didn't work, so i'll reboot18:31
mir1back in a tick!18:31
mir1jaysus lubuntu is quick to restart18:33
bioterroryeah18:34
mir1but still no sound...18:34
mir1back in a (longer) tick, i'm just going to check windows partition to see if it has sound (maybe someones naffed up the speakers since I last used it)18:34
mir1bioterror: more pressing problem now: grub's got no windows boot option and there's no /boot/grub/menu.lst file18:45
bioterrorreally18:46
bioterrorsudo apt-get install os-prober18:46
bioterrorsudo os-prober18:46
bioterrorsudo grub-update18:46
mir1it can't find the grub-update command, which package is that in?18:47

mir1ok, windows has a _lot_ of sound, since i turned the speakers up... :-s18:54
mir1bioterror: got it, thanks for your help, it was a setting to the far far right of alsamixer19:04
bioterrorokay19:06
head_victimgilir: great idea for a place to put things (releasenotes). I'll move things across later on today when I get home from work.19:22
gilirhead_victim, that's the goal of the release notes :)19:24
head_victimYeah sorry I'm not overly technical so I forget the basics on that end. I'm a bit like phillw more able to do documentation and admin work. Happy to be told how to make things better though.19:25
head_victimAlright, work calls. I'll see you in about 14 hours ;)19:25
mir1bioterror: i can't get the music player(s) to make sound, but i can see they are playing since the graphic equaliser is moving. I saw the audio output option in mplayer, it is set to "alsa", but I tried "pulse" and the others. websites have sounds, and mplayer in the terminal also doesn't work so it isn't gnome gunking it up. any ideas?20:05
