BluesKajyotux, have you seen this ? http://www.fluendo.com/press/fluendo-announces-free-mp3-audio-decoding-gnulinux-and-unix/13:55

buu_yes maybe I will play with kde4 effects18:34
buu_kde4 is much nicer thou18:34
chuckfthe problem is if you get something running for kde3 at this point you are behind the curve and will only fall further behind as time goes on18:35
TFroganyone here have problems getting the new packages for KDE 4.5.3 to run on their laptops?18:35
jacksonjeTFrog: It breaks on my desktop18:35
TFrogjacksonje, i attempted it three times in the last two days.  once loaded it stops loading the kdm splash screen and locks this old laptop.  even after a fresh install of 10.10 and the upgrade same story.  had to just sit it out for now.  hope that the developers figure it out.  shame i can't get packages for 4.5.2 again.  was hoping they'd made it to the backports but haven't yet18:37
jacksonjeTFrog: you can still switch to the regular consoles after kdm freezes, but yes it sucks18:37
TFrogi loved what i found in 4.5.2 and was hoping for more out of 4.5.3 but alas i may have to shift to a lighter weight desktop for this old HP laptop18:38
dmattTf18:38
dmattTFrog: when did you upgrade?18:39
TFrogattempted it three times in the last 72 hours18:39
jacksonjedmatt: I had that problem doing an upgrade last night18:39
dmattjacksonje: because 4.5.3 was broken first day, it was not complete in repository18:41
jacksonjedmatt: is it complete now?18:41
TFrogdmatt, first attempt at upgrade was from 4.5.2 which i downloaded probably a week after it hit ppa.  i'm thinking maybe i should have waited a while before trying again18:41
westyin Ubuntu I can use DiskUtility to check smart info on a hard drive. What is the Kubuntu equvilient?18:41
dmattjacksonje: yes18:42
jacksonjeI'll try again and see what happens18:43
* TFrog will wait another 5 days or so just to be sure18:43
TFrogi can't see having to reload again because of the issues18:43
jacksonjeis there a command I can use to enable NetworkManager from the console if it fails again?18:43
TFrogbtw.  ty to jacksonje and dmatt for the info.  have a nice day ladies and gentlemen18:44

millunany ideas?20:48
andrewh192was wondering if someone knew if the errors were fixed with the new update of kde21:15
andrewh192regarding the update itself21:15
kkathmanI just upgraded to 10.10, but for some reason, my network settings can't seem to see my mac on the network...any ideas?21:16
kkathmanIt can see the winbox just fine...and I was able to back up in 10.4 just fine21:17
andrewh192kkathman: not sure what to tell ya.. Not an expert on kubuntu, but... i have a mac on the same network as my linux based computer21:20

valorieandrewh192: yes21:20
andrewh192u have to make sure you have the sharing setup on the mac setup right21:20
valorieI successfully upgraded yesterday to 4.5.221:20
kkathmanthe mac sees the other two fine. The winbox sees the other two fine...it's just the linux box that's only seeing the winbox21:20

andrewh1924.5.3 or 4.5.2?21:23
andrewh192valorie: you upgraded to which one?21:23
kkathmanOK fixed it21:24
kkathmanseems that it just takes time for ubuntu to find it21:25
andrewh192valorie: because when i last tried to update to 4.5.3 it ended up removing a whole bunch of stuff that was necessary to run the computer... ended up having to reinstall from scratch21:25
andrewh192kkathman: kewl, sounds good...21:25
kkathmanya weird...I closeed dolphin....reopened...and boom there it was :)21:26
andrewh192kkathman: kewl,.... hey, which version of KDE do you have? 4.5.3?21:27
kkathmanandrewh192:  I assume the "latest" since I just upgraded everything21:28
kkathmanI thought that when I moved to 10.10 it upgraded kde too, I reckon21:29
kkathmanlooks like I have 4.5.121:29
andrewh192kkathman: you have to add something to the system sources settings... for it to update to the newest 4.5.321:30
kkathmanahh ok...I just did an auto update21:30
andrewh192kkathman: http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-sc-4.5.321:31
kkathmanthanks andrewh19221:36
andrewh192yeah21:37
andrewh192but be careful21:37
andrewh192mighg want to verify that they fixed the update21:37
kkathmanandrewh192:  seems like I had a problem a few releases back, having both the regular and ppa sources21:39
andrewh192yeah21:41
andrewh192kkathman: so what's ur suggestion?21:41
andrewh192kkathman: maybe just to wait til it comes via the already installed settings21:41
andrewh192kkathman: rather than entering the ppa source21:42
