[01:30] My CD/DVD burner doesn't show up. What do I do? [01:31] Xfburn seems to stall after saying: ** Message: Ignoring reader 'SAMSUNG CD-ROM SC-148C' at '/dev/sr1' [01:31] Brasero lets me select my *.iso to burn but the "Select a disc to write to" drop down list is grayed out ): [01:31] The CD reader drive and the CD/DVD burner drive don't show up in the left pane in PcManFM. Should they? [01:35] djs: your cd drive isnt mount in the /media folder? [01:36] Neither of them [01:37] djs: if you put a cd in the drive does it show up [01:39] Lubuntu ISO has it boot up [01:39] Blank DVD-R not [01:41] So is the DVD-R incompatible w/ the drive or do I need to do something to mount it when the DVD-R is in? [01:42] lubuntu iso? [01:53] stlsaint: hey buddy [01:56] stlsaint: I got my video working in a round about sort of way! [01:56] what is everyone's tv viewer of choice? [01:57] I've tried myth but it's too complex for my little brain, and metv under ubuntu 10.04 struggled with HD sometimes [01:57] I've heard kaffeine is nice [01:57] A CD-R with Lubuntu burned on it stlsaint [02:04] turtle_: oh yea how? [02:04] turtle_: i was looking for you earlier to ask you how it went [02:06] stlsaint: I used a different video card which let it boot, updated/upgraded then installed nvidia-current, shut down, replaced video card, rebooted and it worked :-) [02:07] stlsaint: except now it cuts off a centremetre or two around the edges of the display, so I can't see the taskbar [02:17] turtle_: oh, well congrats on your first hack :D [02:18] stlsaint: :-P [02:18] turtle_: lol [02:18] stlsaint: I assume modifying the xorg.conf will fix the resolution problem? [02:19] stlsaint: it's not really my hack, more yours! [02:24] turtle_: you can try the xorg.conf hack [02:26] stlsaint: just by removing 10 pixels or so from default resolution until it all appears? [02:41] I cannot connect to any wireless networks [02:44] w1n5ton: have you checked your hardware drivers to see if a proprietary one is available? [02:45] It works in GNOME so no [02:45] There's no manager on the panel though [02:46] weird that was my problem when I swapped over and I just had to activate my driver [02:46] though I did it via aptitude [02:46] It sees networks when I launch wicd too [02:46] just won't connect [02:46] It sticks at getting IP address [10:31] hi folks. Last night I tried deadbeef (from the ppa) after reading that it was geared to be in upcoming lubuntu versions. It ran for a while, then segfaulted and crashed my lxpanel. Sorry, I have no core dump to debug. So, back to moc for me (which I am quite happy with anyway). :-) [10:33] Otherwise I'm now very pleased with my lubuntu setup. Since I did not use the desktop anyway, I removed it (and replaced the autostart line with @xsetroot -pointer left_ptr -background black). [10:38] i tried too yesterday it [10:38] added few mp3s to library and noticed how it handled files with incorrect id3 tag [10:39] i dont want to see that piece of .... never again [10:39] moc > * [10:42] bioterror: I am not so harsh in my assessment, but I would say there is some work to do before deadbeef becomes a viable choice for listening to music on lubuntu. [10:42] bioterror: you mad? :P [10:42] njaeh [10:42] we need gmpc! [10:43] moc is better :D [10:43] in lubuntu [10:43] it's awesome [10:43] I do agree that moc rules. [10:43] featureful & very low on resources [10:43] i hate libraries [10:43] bansheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee [10:43] working directory listing is better [10:43] do you know gmpc? [10:44] hyperair: Been there. It's nice. But I still like moc better. [10:44] >=O [10:44] blasphemy! [10:45] ive configured mocs color to match somewhat same colors as my irc client [10:45] hyperair: I just found the moc does exactly what I want and that is to have music in my ears, not fancy album covers in my notification area. :-) [10:46] llogiq, plus scrobbling to last,fm [10:46] Nothing against Banshee. It's a well-designed audio player, but it does not match my "workflow" of listening to music. [10:46] llogiq: i'm more interested in searching capabilities though. [10:46] * hyperair loves banshee's search filter thing [10:46] it's like having google in your media player ♥ [10:47] Yeah, well, I know my music library. I don't need to search it. [10:48] what do you guys think of MPD? [10:48] \ mpc [10:49] never tried [10:49] Timo_: Haven't tried it [10:49] but i mainly use one machine for listening music [10:50] sometimes i access my musics with popcorn hour thru samba share [10:50] ah k [10:50] it's a command line music player [10:51] itss a daemon and u can connect to it from different computers [10:51] and it streams [10:54] cmus is like moc, but horrible to use [10:54] might suit for a vim users [10:55] but im into nano/pico [11:00] bioterror: I know it's a deamon, but mpc is the command line variant which hyou connect to mpd [11:00] yeah [11:00] and gmpc is a gui variant to connect to mpd [11:00] gmpc uses like 12 mb of ram [11:01] timo, and mpd uses? [11:01] like 3 mb [11:01] I believe [11:03] well gmpc differs with use of ram [11:03] because it uses a plugin system [11:03] so the more plugins you use, the more ram will be used [11:11] i would like to know what moc uses when playing a flac [11:11] bioterror: Then play a flac file and look at top. :-) [11:11] or file thats compressed really well [11:11] im in a tram :D [11:12] ? [11:12] moving from work place to another :D [11:13] :D [11:14] just mute your music [11:14] sound* [11:14] and try it [11:14] sont want [11:14] dont [11:14] ok [11:14] im enjoying: pink floyd - brain damage [11:14] lazy bastard :D [11:14] ah nice pink floyd [11:15] using phone ;) [11:16] http://www.last.fm/user/m0ng00se/ [11:16] :D [11:16] what kind of phone do u use? [11:17] Your musical compatibility with m0ng00se is Very Low [11:17] :P [11:17] nokia n97 mini [11:17] Music you have in common includes Bad Religion, The Offspring, The Beatles, Muse and Pearl Jam. [11:17] alright :) [11:18] gotta hop off, bbl [11:19] yo [11:19] cu === SortiE|A is now known as SortiE === SortiE is now known as SortiE|A === yofel_ is now known as yofel [14:25] 'ello [14:26] Gday [14:26] so...i have a problem [14:26] What's that [14:27] i have a 3g modem for internet...and i think i have a speed limitation set by the os because i can't get past 15kB/s when i download [14:28] where i can check if there is a limitation? and how could i remove it [14:28] There is no limitation on the operating system side that I'm aware of, I was using wireless today and getting over 2mb/s [14:29] when i use the stick on a windows system i get full speed...but on ubuntu i it stops at 15kB/s :| [14:30] Is it the same computer and the same USB slot? [14:30] yes [14:31] zk__: are you using lubuntu? [14:32] i was using lubuntu...today i switched to ubuntu 10.04 [14:33] same problem on lubuntu thou... [14:34] zk__: have a look over at http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=336 I do have a couple of workarounds for 3G on lubuntu, they may well work on ubuntu as well. [14:34] any word if lubuntu will fork come 11.04 & unity? [14:35] phillw : i'll have a look and get back with details...ty [14:35] Fork? [14:36] econdudeawesome: it will not, unity has no effect on either kubuntu or xubuntu either. ubuntu is replacing gnome with unity, so it has no effect on the other flavours [14:36] zk__: you can also try http://forum.phillw.net/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=92 [14:36] Fair enough. I wonder if there will then become a Gnubuntu? [14:37] a good question, but not one that concerns us :) [14:38] agreed [14:40] if I install lubuntu-core that will give me Lubuntu Desktop? [14:40] from a default ubuntu that is [14:42] oh, lol never mind [14:42] IdleOne: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/DocumentationHelp#Install Lubuntu from Ubuntu or any Ubuntu flavors [14:42] phillw: yeah, I just saw the lubuntu-desktop package. [14:43] * IdleOne needs to finish his coffee before asking questions :) [14:43] IdleOne: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/DocumentationHelp#Install%20Lubuntu%20from%20Ubuntu%20or%20any%20Ubuntu%20flavors [14:44] econdudeawesome: the news from the UDS can be read at http://forum.phillw.net/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=251 [14:48] /18 [15:15] Phill, you should take a poll to see how many people actually use the Lubuntu netbook interface. One of the big reasons I switched over to lubuntu was that it provided me a full lightweight usable desktop interface that worked with the size of a netbook. I suspect there are others doing the same. [15:16] econdudeawesome: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/GettingInvolved the mailing list is where he hold polls :) [15:20] /s/he/we [15:23] Phill, I don't see where the mailing list signup is [15:26] econdudeawesome: You have to sign in on launchpad and join the team. [15:30] bah [15:30] it's so cold in here [15:32] Timo_: Wear a jacket? :P [15:35] I do [15:35] and I have a sweater blanket around me [15:35] and the curtains closed to keep the warmth inside [15:35] and the Central heating at max [15:37] Timo_: :O [15:38] normally I'm never cold [15:38] dno what's wrong :p [15:38] You might have flu [15:38] well no [15:38] It is really cold in here [15:38] Where's "here"? [15:38] my father also complained about it when comin gin the room [15:38] my room [15:39] the rest of the house is okay :P [15:39] You have poltergeists [15:39] LOL! [15:39] lol [15:41] Well how else do you explain the sudden temperature drop? [15:41] Ghosts! [16:04] mark76: probably === |Slurpee|_ is now known as Slurpee === |Slurpee|_ is now known as Slurpee [18:06] what is the best cd/dvd/iso burning software for lubuntu . [18:12] xfburn :D [18:14] naji-ji, you can also try brasero [18:15] actually it's same stuff from beneath, different surface [18:15] ok [18:16] cdrecord :P [18:16] Xfburn is a simple CD/DVD burning tool based on libburnia [18:16] bioterror, the same applies for k3b i think [18:17] Supports multiple backends: cdrtools, growisofs and libburn(optional). [18:17] xfburn is better I think . I used it for puppy linux [18:18] should I update to 10.10 or better stick to 10.04 any suggestions [18:18] The actual disc recording in K3b is done by the command line utilities cdrecord or cdrkit, cdrdao, and growisofs. As of version 1.0, K3b features a built-in DVD ripper. [18:20] what else we've got :D [18:20] ?? [18:23] nero burning rom [18:25] naji-ji: if you use a machine that's pentium 4 and above, 10.10 [18:26] you mean Lubuntu has lost its lightweightnes...? [18:27] nero burning rom for Linux..? [18:27] pentuim 3 and above [18:27] pentium* [18:28] pentium 2 and lower aren't supported by ubuntu kernel since 10.10 [18:28] particulary i586 CPUs and lower [18:29] naji-ji, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickMeerkat/ReleaseNotes#Linux%20kernel%202.6.35 [18:32] we are taliking about Lubuntu not Ubuntu right...??? [18:33] but lubuntu is derivative of ubuntu and use the same base (this means kernel and cli etc.) [18:35] if the kernel isn't supporting it we can do nothing ecept telling people to use older release if it would be meant to use on PII and lower [18:42] ok [19:01] hey Yorvyk! [19:02] mark76: you said something about the ppa from dropbox not being updated since lucid [19:02] Correctamundo [19:02] http://linux.dropbox.com/ubuntu [19:02] that's their "ppa" [19:02] Oops! I see Yuo [19:35] You [19:37] I fuond 3 file managger prg [19:37] I don't think Nautilus will show in the menu unless you're using Gnome [19:37] 1 file browser 2 file managger [19:38] Ok. If it is on desktop it is really god for me. [19:39] Than a lot. I'm happy. [19:40] Why do you want Nautilus and not PCManFM? [19:41] in PCManFM i can't work with my local network [19:41] Ah [19:42] Go to #lxde on freenode and tell them about it [19:42] i have a litle home network [19:42] Someone there might know how to fix that [19:43] Cool [19:43] bravo_lima: there is simple fix for that [19:43] a Debian server, 3 Windos masine, 1 Lubuntu [19:44] bravo_lima: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/ReleaseNotes/MaverickMeerkat/#Network%20File%20Browsing%20with%20PCManFM It got missed on the 1st iso.
