jh15Greetings. I set up a new mythbuntu box front/backend unit. HDhomerun works and myth scanned it ok. It starts on a good channel for a second, then crashes to user login.16:12

Azelphurso word on the street is .24 is stable now :D19:45
AzelphurI assume this means I can upgrade without being on the butt-end of family beatings19:45
tgm4883Azelphur, I don't think anyone said that20:05
tgm4883.24 is released now20:05
tgm4883released != stable20:05
Azelphurso still not a good idea to update yet unless I enjoy family beatings?20:06
AzelphurI sort of get family beatings already since mythweb/mythvideo is broken on 0.23.120:06
rhpot1991always upgrade on a weekend when you have no recordings going on20:07
Azelphurwell yea I'd have to do that anyway20:07
tgm4883Azelphur, I didn't say it wasn't stable20:29
tgm4883but it's not 1.020:29
tgm4883Azelphur, whats broken in mythweb/mythvideo 0.23.1?20:29
steviemanis there a lirc or an irexec log anywhere in 10.04? I can't get irexec to work at all and I would like to find out why20:43
tgm4883Azelphur, I stand corrected...  <iamlindoro> It wouldn't be a release if it wasn't stable20:43
Azelphurhehe yea :P20:44
Azelphurtgm4883: if you go into mythvideo and click on one of the video links you get 40420:44
tgm4883interesting20:45
tgm4883does it give you an incorrect link?20:46
AzelphurI believe it's a known bug20:46
Azelphuryea20:46
* tgm4883 looks20:46
Azelphurtgm4883: it's a problem with spaces20:46
tgm4883ah20:47
tgm4883so if you did a movie without spaces it would work?20:47
Azelphuryea20:47
Azelphureg /Movies/Stargate is fine but /TV/24/Season 1/ is broken :D20:47
tgm4883thats no deal20:48
Azelphur?20:48
tgm4883is there a bug filed against mythbuntu?20:48
Azelphurit's filed in MythTV I think it's already fixed20:48
tgm4883"thats no deal" == "that sucks"20:48
Azelphurso I've been waiting on the update :)20:48
Azelphurah20:48
tgm4883you know which revision it's fixed in?20:49
tgm4883cause we don't build for 0.23.1 anymore20:49
tgm4883stevieman, is irexec started?20:49
Azelphurnope20:49
steviemantgm4883: yes it is, it starts of bootup20:50
steviemanstarts on bootup20:51
Azelphurtgm4883: so yea I asked a while back if I should upgrade and I think it was you who said do I like family beatings :P20:58
Azelphuryea it was :P20:59
Azelphurhttp://pastebin.com/ijmq3hsW20:59
tgm4883heh21:02
tgm4883yea it was21:02
Azelphurhehe21:02
Azelphurso what's the prognosis now days?21:02
tgm4883I don't run it yet, but i'm upgrading this weekend21:02
Azelphurcool21:02
tgm4883it's released and upstream says it's stable21:02
tgm4883and superm1 runs it21:02
AzelphurI'll let you be the guinea pig then :D21:02
Azelphurhehe21:03
rhpot1991superm1: already guinea pig'd for us21:03
rhpot1991now I'm sad that I'm gone away this weekend and can't upgrade21:03
Azelphuris there a place that says the new features?21:05
superm1http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Release_Notes_-_0.2421:05
Zinn[www.mythtv.org] Release Notes - 0.24 - MythTV21:05
* Azelphur reads21:05
Azelphurloving the new features, all but bluray and broadcom crystal make me happy :D21:07
rhpot1991only older blurays will work I believe21:08
AzelphurI wonder if the metadata grabbing in mythgame will be fully automatic like the mythvideo21:08
Azelphuryea, I don't use bluray at all21:08
AzelphurI've always wanted some nicer myth themes so theme browser/mythui is awesome, I use mythgame and never managed to get metadata, I've been trying to automate video metadata grabbing process too, I have a deaf person living with me so subtitle in mkv will be awesome :D21:10
AzelphurI like this, hehe21:10
steviemananyone have any thoughts as to why I cannot get irexec working?21:13
nikosapiHi, I just did a fresh install of mythbuntu 10.10 (I think I was using 9.10 previously) and I can't seem to get my homebrew serial transmitter working again (irsend works fine but my cable box doesn't seem to be receiving anything). Can anyone here help?21:15
steviemancould the fact that lircd is being run by root and irexec is being run by a user cause a problem?21:22

strexquestion of the day; when will mythbuntu update to .24?22:47
tgm4883strex, already has?22:49
tgm4883!auto22:49
ZinnSorry I don't know about auto22:49
tgm4883!auto%22:49
ZinnAuto builds contain more recent bug fixes than the normal Ubuntu repository contains. See http://www.mythbuntu.org/auto-builds for more info.22:49
strexI guess a more accurate question would be, any idea when ubuntu will see that .24 has been released, and update their repo's?22:50
tgm4883strex, ah. let me check22:51
tgm4883strex, looks like April 28th, 201122:51
tgm4883that date may flucate a few days but usually is about right22:52
yggdrasilhi can somone give me  hand, got a fresh install of mythbuntu here and i put some files into the videos folder and switched ovr the videos settings to point to that folder but i still get no files found  when i go into videos ?22:52
strextgm4883: umm, that seems off, why would ubuntu wait 5 months before updating to a new release?22:53
tgm4883yggdrasil, hit m, then scan for changes22:53
yggdrasilahh22:53
yggdrasilthanks, that did it, havnt run myth for a few years ..22:53
yggdrasili was thinking it was something likthat22:53
tgm4883strex, because the maintainers of the mythtv packages in Ubuntu don't provide backports through the Ubuntu repos. They do it via autobuilds22:54
yggdrasil,, it didnt pick up the wmvs though :(22:54
tgm4883yggdrasil, you probably have to set a filetype for wmvs22:54
tgm4883strex, I can tell you without a doubt, that if you want to use 0.24 on 10.04 or 10.10, that you will need to use auto-builds or compile it yourself22:55
tgm4883strex, why don't you like auto-builds?22:55
strextgm4883: so I'm some what new to ubuntu, but been using *nix for 15+ years. tell me more about auto-builds please?22:55
yggdrasiltgm4883: i di that,22:55
yggdrasilwell so another question i installed gnome  here and the panel bars are staying on top of myth.22:55
tgm4883strex, does the writeup and FAQ on that website not tell you enough?22:56
yggdrasilill have to play with that one for a while22:56
yggdrasiloh isee what happend with those wmvs, they went to the wrong folder22:56
tgm4883strex, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about it, but i'm not going to give you a presentation on it since it's all on that site22:56
strextgm4883: understood.22:57
strextgm4883: i've already read it, but I'm still a bit confused as to why one would have to use auto-builds, when a new Release of the software is out.22:58
strextgm4883: like if FF updated to a new Release, it would already be in an update manager somewhere, not in some auto-build, am i wrong?22:58
tgm4883a few reasons22:59
tgm4883backports actually take a bit of paperwork to actually happen23:00
tgm4883mythtv upstream provides a fixes branch for the currently released version23:00
yggdrasilahh yea myth is running sweet now :) gonan put this guy in my van for the kids23:00
yggdrasilits an hp pavilion zv600023:00
tgm4883autobuilds allows us to build from the fixes branch daily23:01
strexyggdrasil: I don't think my 4U server would fit in a van, hehe23:01
yggdrasilhehe23:01
tgm4883if we tried to do that in the regular repos, it would be a nightmare23:01
tgm4883we don't have the manpower for that to happen23:01
yggdrasili used to run myth with some tweaks for dvbs decryption back in the day23:01
yggdrasilit was pretty fricking awesome23:01
tgm4883FF comes in the default install and thus has resources put toward it to keep it up to date in the repos (it also has exceptions for it)23:02
yggdrasilits allegedly got a in ir receiver built in but i cant seem to figure out .. i think it needs the remote controll built for this machine.23:03
strextgm4883: thanks for the info, in a nutshell I need to use auto-builds to get mythtv upto version .24 then.23:03
mrandstrex: Firefox is an exception... it is one of the most widely used applications, and a potential security risk for running old version is relatively high.23:03
tgm4883yep23:03
tgm4883or wait for Natty23:03
mrandstrex: yep, all the cool kids use auto-builds.23:04
strexmrand: bringing up security when talking about mythtv is kinda a catch 22.23:04
mrandsecurity with regard to Firefox.23:04
strexmrand: I know..23:04
strexcan someone running auto-builds tell me if the .24 release is available there, or is it just RC's?23:06
mrandIf you wait a few hours, it'll be the 0.24 release.23:07
mrandAnd then it will continue tracking any bug fixes that go into 0.2423:07
mrandBTW, I'd recommend waiting a few hours to also pick up a package related fix.23:07
strexmrand: aaah I get ya.23:07
strexmrand: meaning, there will be dpkg's avail in a few hrs?23:08
tgm4883which reminds me, I need to set new_release to true and see if auto-builds has any breakage in the -repos package23:08
mrandstrex: New .deb's, yes.  You can see from https://launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/+archive/0.24 that the last build was nearly 24 hours ago.  Once the timer resets, it should be good to go.23:09
Zinn[launchpad.net] 0.24 : “Mythbuntu Developers” team23:09
tgm4883usually builds around 5:00 PM PST23:09
strexmrand: so I might be confusing the two, would it be advisable to setup the auto-builds repo on my boxes, but wait for the lastest build (an hr away for me) before upgrading? Am I just confusing myself more?23:14
yggdrasilwait a second all i would need is a universal that can be programmed with these codes.23:15
yggdrasilor what are some good cheap usb remotes for myth?23:15
strexyggdrasil: IR is a fun adventure, hang on for the ride.. ehhe.23:15
yggdrasilive had it working before23:16
yggdrasil:)23:16
yggdrasilactually i have my old huapage one that jsut acts like a keyboard23:16
yggdrasilmaybe ill jsut use that.23:16
strexyggdrasil: have you setup, the drive, daemon and config yet?23:17
yggdrasilwould be nice if i could get the receiver on the pavilion zv6000 to work and maybe use another pavilion ir to program up another emote.23:17
yggdrasildrive ?23:17
strex*driver23:17
yggdrasilahh23:17
yggdrasili havnt set up the lircd yet23:17
yggdrasili cant really see where the device is23:17
yggdrasilits not usb and its not pci23:17
yggdrasilnot sure where to start on that.23:17
strexcheck dmesg23:18
yggdrasiland since i dont have the remote controll for it im not sure how to check if its seeing anything.23:18
yggdrasilright but i dont have the remote for it either. i tried jsut shooting another remote randomly and checked dmesg but didnt see anythng23:18
strexdmesg should show the device, if the driver is installed.23:19
yggdrasilahh let me check that out23:19
yggdrasilwhat should i grep for ?23:19
strexlsmod |grep ir23:19
strexanything ir related?23:20
yggdrasilnegative23:20
yggdrasilwoww ive never seen grep hilight the search term23:20
strexanything in dmesg, might be worth checking line by line.23:20
strexit's ubuntu for ya23:21
yggdrasilyea ill dmsg | more23:21
mrandstrex: you have it exactly correct.  You can setup the auto-builds now or later... but if you set it up now, I'd advise waiting to update until todays build has completed just to head off one possible known package related problem.23:21
strexmrand: awesome, I get ya.23:22
yggdrasilthis could take a while :) bbl23:23
strexmrand: tgm4883: I was hesitant about auto buids from the old tracking-source days in the BSD world..23:23
mrandstrex: understood.  auto-builds could mean different things in different context's.  And in fact, the Mythbuntu autobuilds does give you the ability to track the trunk (unstable) source (aka what will eventually become 0.25).  As long as you stick with a mythtv version that is released or near released, the only downside SHOULD be that you may get pretty frequent updates as bug fixes tend to roll in rapidly during the first few weeks.  You can obvi23:26
strexmrand: well thanks for the help, I'll get to setting up the auto-builds on the machines.23:29
mrandstrex: you're welcome23:29
strexnow if only I could prevent HDD failure. hehe23:30
yggdrasilok now i just gotta figure out how to stick the laptop to the roof of my van23:35
strexductape?23:35
mrandSecure it to the back of the seats?23:36
strexThanks for all the help folks, I'm out.23:43
