nisshhmortal, and your surprised they did that? :)13:00
mortalI wonder how fast ubuntu maverick will get the update13:01
devildantemortal: we don't know if pidgin solved the issue13:02
pedro_empathy is still working fine with MSN though13:02
devildanteoh13:02
mortaldevildante: I had to do the workaround13:02

ubot2Launchpad bug 676972 in pidgin (Ubuntu) "pidgin does not connect to msn, certificate error (affects: 1) (heat: 6)" [Undecided,New]13:03

janpolHello everyone! Is anyone free to help me with my first triaging, I wanna do it right :). I've been taking a look at bug #641882 and found a workaround (I posted it in a comment). What should I do now? set it to Incomplete? (since I have to wait for someone to confirm that the solution I posted actually fixes this bug). Also I think this is a duplicate of bug #671369. So, I should also mark it as a duplicate. Is this right? or 14:47
ubot2Launchpad bug 641882 in ubuntu "header files matching your running kernel were not found (affects: 3) (heat: 26)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/64188214:47
ubot2Launchpad bug 671369 in ubuntu "After 10.10 update vmmon failed to compile (affects: 4) (heat: 253)" [Undecided,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/67136914:47
janpolThanks in advance :)14:48
devildantejanpol: checking14:50
charlie-tcaA workaround is not considered a fix, it is simply a procedure to allow the use of the package causing issues until is a fix is found14:51
devildantejanpol: the other way around: the second bug is a duplicate of the first one14:54
janpolyeah, but this is a problem related to vmware and not to ubuntu or an ubuntu package, so there's nothing to fix from the ubuntu side. That's still considered a workaround?14:54
janpolok, thanks devildante14:54
devildantejanpol: so mark the second bug as duplicate and mark the first one as Confirmed14:54
devildantejanpol: you're welcome14:54
charlie-tcayes, it is still considered a workaround. In that case, a fix would come down from vmware14:55
janpolok, thanks charlie14:56
charlie-tcaYou are welcome14:56
janpoldone :)14:58
kamusinyofel_,  if one of greasemoney devs have time please look bug 677018 :)14:58
ubot2Launchpad bug 677018 in launchpad-gm-scripts "gnome-power-bugreport not exists in path (affects: 1) (heat: 6)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/67701814:58
janpolI've been looking at a comment Kamus made in #641882.: " it seems that you are not using a software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software package" then he marked the bug as invalid, and somebody else changed it back to New, since he says is because something is missing in ubuntu's15:01
janpolif the workaround I posted fixes the problem, shouldn't I mark it as Invalid since is a problem caused by vmware? (based on Kamu's comment)15:03
charlie-tcano, because it is still a bug15:04
charlie-tcawait a minute15:05
charlie-tcakamusin: why are you having janpol confirm the bug you made invalid?15:05
kamusincharlie-tca, was a mouse-mistake sorry about it15:06
charlie-tcaThank you.15:06
kamusingive me 5 seconds15:06
devildantecharlie-tca: only that I'm the one who told him to confirm it15:06
devildanteI think :p15:06
janpolhaha15:07
charlie-tcaso is it valid or invalid?15:07
charlie-tcajanpol: workarounds should be documented according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Description15:07
kamusinupstream said that is invalid15:07
charlie-tcaThank you.15:07
janpolso, Invalid?15:08
devildantecharlie-tca: I saw one comment there saying that it worked on other distros15:08
charlie-tcajanpol: it is going to be invalid. I will go back and mark/comment it15:08
janpolI should set it to invalid? or are you gonna do it?15:08
charlie-tcaI will. I might get more difficult based on comments now15:09
kamusinnobody else has confirmed.. I have heard something similar in empathy few days ago..15:10
devildantekamusin: there is a duplicate, I think15:11
devildantekamusin: and duplicates confirm the bug ;)15:11
janpolso, I should have included the keyword "workaround" in my comment right? Is there a way to edit it? Or add a new comment with that word and a link to the previous one?15:11
kamusindo you have the number? please15:11
janpol64188215:11
janpolduplicate:67136915:12
devildantebug 67136915:12
ubot2Launchpad bug 671369 in ubuntu "After 10.10 update vmmon failed to compile (dup-of: 641882)" [Undecided,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/67136915:12
ubot2Launchpad bug 641882 in ubuntu "header files matching your running kernel were not found (affects: 7) (dups: 1) (heat: 38)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/64188215:12
kamusinsure?15:12
devildantethat seems so15:12
charlie-tcajanpol: the workaround is moved directly into the description area15:12
charlie-tcaby editing the description, you add "WORKAROUND:15:13
charlie-tcaat the bottom and then add the actual procedure. That keeps it visible in the report. Otherwise, the next reporter has to read every comment to try and find it15:13
devildantejanpol: to make a great description, check out wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Description15:13
janpolok15:14
kamusinthanks devildante , you are my hero today15:18
devildantekamusin: lol15:19
devildantekamusin: np ;)15:19
janpolnotice that the workaround hasn't been confirmed by the bug reporter (that's why was going to set the status to Incomplete). Should I still add it to the description? (sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to do this the right way :p)15:20
charlie-tcaWe don't require them to comfirm it15:20
charlie-tcaSure, you can add it to description. It might make it easier15:21
charlie-tcadevildante: so did I screw up now on bug 641882 ?15:21
ubot2Launchpad bug 641882 in ubuntu "header files matching your running kernel were not found (affects: 7) (dups: 1) (heat: 40)" [Undecided,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/64188215:21
janpolok, I'll add it and then ask you for a review15:22
devildantecharlie-tca: I saw that comment: "The defective software is the ubuntu kernel headers which are missing items contained in the standard linux headers releases seen with all other distributions."15:23
devildantecharlie-tca: so I thought it wouldn't be invalid15:23
devildantecharlie-tca: plus the existence of a workaround means there is something we could fix15:24
charlie-tcaWe aren't other distros15:24
charlie-tcaWorkaround only means low priority15:24
devildantecharlie-tca: that's my opinion... maybe I did screw up after all :p15:24
charlie-tcaMany bugs with workarounds will never see a real fix because it is easy to workaround the issue15:25
devildantecharlie-tca: that doesn't mean that this is not a bug15:25
charlie-tcavalid15:26
devildantecharlie-tca: so it shouldn't be marked as invalid15:27
charlie-tcaI thought the comment to use the latest was valid. I screwed it up15:27
charlie-tcaSo you or me to fix it now?15:27
janpolif I use the "Add attachment or patch" button, the script I add (for the workaround) will appear as a new comment at the bottom right? Is better to just add a wget to the source in the description?15:28
devildantejanpol: no, attach it15:29
janpolok15:29
devildantejanpol: so it's stored for the lifetime of launchpad15:29
=== devildante is now known as devildante-away
kamusinis not enough just have a ticket under answers?15:33
janpolsince this is a workaround, I shouldn't mark this attachment as a solution for this bug right?15:33

charlie-tcajanpol: Good job. Thanks for helping with bugs15:39
